    am currently reading a book, which has explanation of making a social website. ASP.NET 3.5 Social Networking https://www.packtpub.com/expert-guide-for-social-networking-with-asp-.net-3.5/book On page 41 I noticed that the images of the solution explorer given in the text, indicate that windowsformapplication[PROJECT] has been used instead of WebForms[create new website]. there are no webforms? how would the end result be a site? what is happening here?? the name of the book is, ASP.NET 3.5 Social Networking, please refer to page 41, thanks note:- i have always made websites which needs hosting and be accessible from other computers using webforms[create new website] which has web.config file app_data etc..... please help thank you.

  • flash as3, fade in/out layering problem

    Ok, what im trying to do is make a day to night cycle behind my landscape. There is a sun and a moon, they rotate in a circle on opposite sides.   • July, the 31 Days of SQL Server DMO’s – Day 19 (sys.dm_exec_query_stats)

    The sys.dm_exec_query_stats DMV is one of the most useful DMV’s out there when it comes to performance tuning. If you have been keeping up with this blog series this month, you know that I started out on Day 1 reviewing many of the DMV’s within the ‘exec’ namespace. I’m not sure how I missed this one considering how valuable it is, but hey, they say it’s better late than never right?? On Day 7 and Day 8 we reviewed the sys.dm_exec_procedure_stats and sys.dm_exec_trigger_stats respectively. This sys.dm_exec_query_stats DMV is very similar to these two. As a matter of fact, this DMV will return all of the information you saw in the other two DMV’s, but in addition to that, you can see stats for all queries that have cached execution plans on your server. You can even see stats for statements that are ran Ad-Hoc as long as they are still cached in the buffer pool. To better illustrate this DMV, let have a quick look at it: SELECT * FROM sys.dm_exec_query_stats As you can see, there is a lot of information returned from this DMV. I wont go into detail about each and every one of these columns, but I will touch on a few of them briefly. The first column is the ‘sql_handle’, which if you remember from Day 4 of our blog series, I explained how you can use this column to extract the actual SQL text that was executed. The next columns statement_start_offset and statement_end_offset provide you a way of extracting the exact SQL statement that was executed as part of a batch. The plan_handle column is used to extract the Execution plan that was used, which we talked about during Day 5 of this blog series. Later in the result set, you have columns to identify how many times a particular statement was executed, how much CPU time it used, how many reads/writes it performed, the duration, how many rows were returned, etc. These columns provide you with a solid avenue to begin your performance optimization. The last column I will touch on is the query_plan_hash column. A lot of times when you have Dynamic SQL running on your server, you have similar statements with different parameter values being passed in. Many times these types of statements will get similar execution plans and then a Binary hash value can be generated based on these similar plans. This query plan hash can be used to find the cost of all queries that have similar execution plans and then you can tune based on that plan to improve the performance of all of the individual queries. This is a very powerful way of identifying and tuning Ad-hoc statements that run on your server. As I stated earlier, this sys.dm_exec_query_stats DMV is a very powerful and recommended DMV for performance tuning. You are able to quickly identify statements that are running on your server and analyze their impact on system resources. Using this DMV to track down the biggest performance killers on your server will allow you to make the biggest gains once you focus your tuning efforts on those top offenders.   • Microsoft Cloud Day - the ups and downs

    The term ‘cloud’ can sometimes obscure the obvious.  Today’s Microsoft Cloud Day conference in London provided a good example.  Scott Guthrie was halfway through what was an excellent keynote when he lost network connectivity.  This proved very disruptive to his presentation which centred on a series of demonstrations of the Azure platform in action.  Great efforts were made to find a solution, but no quick fix presented itself.  The venue’s IT facilities were dreadful – no WiFi, poor 3G reception (forget 4G…this is the UK) and, unbelievably, no-one on hand from the venue staff to help with infrastructure issues.  Eventually, after an unscheduled break, a solution was found and Scott managed to complete his demonstrations.  Further connectivity issues occurred during the day. I can say that the cause was prosaic.  A member of the venue staff had interfered with a patch board and inadvertently disconnected Scott Guthrie’s machine from the network by pulling out a cable. I need to state the obvious here.  If your PC is disconnected from the network it can’t communicate with other systems.  This could include a machine under someone’s desk, a mail server located down the hall, a server in the local data centre, an Internet search engine or even, heaven forbid, a role running on Azure. Inadvertently disconnecting a PC from the network does not imply a fundamental problem with the cloud or any specific cloud platform.  Some of the tweeted comments I’ve seen today are analogous to suggesting that, if you accidently unplug your microwave from the mains, this suggests some fundamental flaw with the electricity supply to your house.   This is poor reasoning, to say the least. As far as the conference was concerned, the connectivity issue in the keynote, coupled with some later problems in a couple of presentations, served to exaggerate the perception of poor organisation.   Software problems encountered before the conference prevented the correct set-up of a smartphone app intended to convey agenda information to attendees.  Although some information was available via this app, the organisers decided to print out an agenda at the last moment.  Unfortunately, the agenda sheet did not convey enough information, and attendees were forced to approach conference staff through the day to clarify locations of the various presentations. Despite these problems, the overwhelming feedback from conference attendees was very positive.  There was a real sense of excitement in the morning keynote.  For many, this was their first sight of new Azure features delivered in the ‘spring’ release.  The most common reaction I heard was amazement and appreciation that Azure’s new IaaS features deliver built-in template support for several flavours of Linux from day one.  This coupled with open source SDKs and several presentations on Azure’s support for Java, node.js, PHP, MongoDB and Hadoop served to communicate that the Azure platform is maturing quickly.  The new virtual network capabilities also surprised many attendees, and the much improved portal experience went down very well. So, despite some very irritating and disruptive problems, the event served its purpose well, communicating the breadth and depth of the newly upgraded Azure platform.  I enjoyed the day very much.

    Was für ein Tag! Unter dem Motto „Maximize your Potential“ kamen über 470 Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer beim Oracle Partner Day 2012 zusammen. Hier drehte sich alles um unsere Partner, die, wie Silvia Kaske, Senior Director Alliances & Channel Europe North, in ihrer Begrüßung betonte, „ein sehr wichtiger Baustein in der Wachstumsstrategie von Oracle“ sind. Wie einmalig diese Partnerschaft ist, betonte auch David Callaghan, Senior Vice President EMEA Alliances & Channel in seiner Keynote. Niemand sonst habe, so Callaghan, in ähnlichem Ausmaß wie Oracle, Hardware und Software tatsächlich integriert. So manche Anbieter würden zwar beides zusammenschnüren, aber bei weitem nicht so optimal abgestimmt und verflochten, wie beim „Red Stack“ von Oracle. Neben Keynotes von Jürgen Kunz, SVP Technology Northern Europe & Country Leader Germany, und Christian Werner, Senior Director Alliances & Channels Germany, zu Neuheiten und Entwicklungspotenzialen im Oracle Universum und den Präsentationen aus verschiedenen Spezialisierung-Fachgebieten, gab es sogar einen Blick in die Zukunft der IT: Der Informatiker Professor Hermann Maurer präsentierte nicht nur existierende und geplante Innovationen, etwa die berüchtigte Computerbrille, die bald das Smartphone abzulösen soll – eine ordentliche Portion Science-Fiction war auch dabei. Im Laufe des Tages nutzten diverse Partner die Möglichkeit, vor Ort den Test als OPN Implementation Specialist beim Testcenter Pearson Vue abzulegen. Viele Teilnehmer zeigten sich beeindruckt von den vielen guten Gesprächen untereinander und schöpften die Möglichkeit zum Networking und Erfahrungsaustausch voll aus. Bei einem so dichten Programm ist es natürlich schwierig, wirklich alles mitzunehmen. Daher haben wir die Präsentationen, die auf dem Oracle Partner Day gehalten wurden, hier in der Agenda noch einmal für Sie zusammengestellt. Spannend wurde es bei der Oracle Partner Award Ceremony: Zum zweiten Mal wurden dort deutsche Partner ausgezeichnet, die sich mit besonderem Engagement und Erfolg spezialisiert haben. Zu meistern waren verschiedene Geschicklichkeits-Spiele, unter anderem ein fast mannshoher „Oracle Stack“, den es in Yenga-Manier aufrecht zu erhalten galt, Torschüsse auf ein Tor, das von einem vollautomatischen Robo-Keeper bewacht wurde und eine Video-Wand mit einem spielerischen Reaktionstest rund um den „Red Stack“. Den ganzen Tag über konnten die Teilnehmer hinter QR-Codes versteckte Buchstaben sammeln und mit etwas Glück und Geschick einen von drei iPod Supernanos gewinnen. Abgerundet wurde das Programm durch Auftritte der Entertainment-Saxophonistinnen „Hot Sax Club“, der beeindruckenden Fußball-Freestyler mit ihrer Ballakrobatik, dem Close-up Magier Marc Gassert und unseren DJ, der für Stimmung sorgte.     Stackify will join fellow Kansas City startups to kick off Global Entrepreneurship WeekOn Monday, November 12, Stackify, a provider of tools that improve developers’ ability to support, manage and monitor their enterprise applications, will pitch its technology at the Startup@Kauffman Demo Day in Kansas City, Mo. Hosted by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, the event will mark the start of Global Entrepreneurship Week, the world’s largest celebration of innovators and job creators who launch startups.Stackify was selected through a competitive process for a six-minute opportunity to pitch its new technology to investors at Demo Day. In his pitch, Stackify’s founder, Matt Watson, will discuss the current challenges DevOps teams face and reveal how Stackify is reinventing the way software developers provide application support.In October, Stackify had successful appearances at two similar startup events. At Tech Cocktail’s Kansas City Mixer, the company was named “Hottest Kansas City Startup,” and it won free hosting service after pitching its solution at St. Louis, Mo.’s Startup Connection.“With less than a month until our public launch, events like Demo Day are giving Stackify the support and positioning we need to change the development community,” said Watson. “As a serial technology entrepreneur, I appreciate the Kauffman Foundation’s support of startup companies like Stackify.
