  • Calculating average (AVG) and grouping by week on large data set takes too long

    - by caioiglesias
I'm getting average prices by week on 7 million rows, it's taking around 30 seconds to get the job done. This is the simple query: SELECT AVG(price) as price, yearWEEK(FROM_UNIXTIME(timelog)) as week from pricehistory where timelog > $range and product_id = $id GROUP BY week The only week that actually gets data changed and is worth averaging every time is always the last one, so this calculation for the whole period is a waste of resources. I just wanted to know if mysql has a tool to help out on this.

  • How to select from tableA sum of grouped numbers from tableB above their sums average in Oracle?

    - by Nazgulled
    I have data like this: tableA.ID --------- 1 2 3 tableB.ID tableB.NUM -------------------- 1 10 1 15 2 18 3 12 2 15 3 13 1 12 I need to select tableA IDs where the sum of their NUMs in tableB is above the average of all tableA IDs sums. In other words: SUM ID=1 -> 10+15+12 = 37 SUM ID=2 -> 18+12+15 = 45 SUM ID=3 -> 12+13 = 25 AVG ALL IDs -> (37+45+25)/3 = 35 The SELECT must only show ID 1 and 2 because 37 35, 45 35 but 25 < 35. This is my current query which is working fine: SELECT tableA.ID FROM tableA, tableB WHERE tableA.ID = tableB.ID HAVING SUM(tableB.NUM) > ( SELECT AVG(MY_SUM) FROM ( SELECT SUM(tableB.NUM) MY_SUM FROM tableA, tableB WHERE tableA.ID = tableB.ID GROUP BY tableA.ID ) ) GROUP BY tableA.ID But I have a feeling there might be a better way without all those nested SELECTs. Perhaps 2, but 3 feels like too much. I'm probably wrong though. For instance, why can't I do something simple like this: SELECT tableA.ID FROM tableA, tableB WHERE tableA.ID = tableB.ID HAVING SUM(tableB.NUM) > AVG(SUM(tableB.NUM)) GROUP BY tableA.ID Or this: SELECT tableA.ID, SUM(tableB.NUM) MY_SUM FROM tableA, tableB WHERE tableA.ID = tableB.ID HAVING MY_SUM > AVG(MY_SUM) GROUP BY tableA.ID

  • sql charateristic function for avg dates

    - by holden
    I have a query which I use to grab specific dates and a price for the date, but now I'd like to use something similar to grab the avg prices for particular days of the week. Here's my current query which works for specific dates to pull from a table called availables: SELECT rooms.name, rooms.roomtype, rooms.id, max(availables.updated_at), MAX(IF(to_days(availables.bookdate) - to_days('2009-12-10') = 0, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day1, MAX(IF(to_days(availables.bookdate) - to_days('2009-12-10') = 1, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day2, MAX(IF(to_days(availables.bookdate) - to_days('2009-12-10') = 2, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day3, MAX(IF(to_days(availables.bookdate) - to_days('2009-12-10') = 3, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day4, MAX(IF(to_days(availables.bookdate) - to_days('2009-12-10') = 4, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day5, MAX(IF(to_days(availables.bookdate) - to_days('2009-12-10') = 5, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day6, MAX(IF(to_days(availables.bookdate) - to_days('2009-12-10') = 6, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day7, MIN(spots) as spots FROM `availables` INNER JOIN rooms ON availables.room_id=rooms.id WHERE rooms.hotel_id = '5064' AND bookdate BETWEEN '2009-12-10' AND DATE_ADD('2009-12-10', INTERVAL 6 DAY) GROUP BY rooms.name ORDER BY rooms.ppl My first stab which doesn't work, probably because the DAYSOFWEEK function is much different from the to_days... • Getting the avg of the top 10 students from each school

    - by dave
Hi all -- We have a school district with 38 elementary schools. The kids took a test. The averages for the schools are widely dispersed, but I want to compare the averages of JUST THE TOP 10 students from each school. Requirement: use temporary tables only. I have done this in a very work-intensive, error-prone sort of way as follows. (sch_code = e.g., 9043; -- schabbrev = e.g., "Carter"; -- totpct_stu = e.g., 61.3) DROP TEMPORARY TABLE IF EXISTS avg_top10 ; CREATE TEMPORARY TABLE avg_top10 ( sch_code VARCHAR(4), schabbrev VARCHAR(75), totpct_stu DECIMAL(5,1) ); INSERT INTO avg_top10 SELECT sch_code , schabbrev , totpct_stu FROM test_table WHERE sch_code IN ('5489') ORDER BY totpct_stu DESC LIMIT 10; -- I do that last query for EVERY school, so the total -- length of the code is well in excess of 300 lines. -- Then, finally... SELECT schabbrev, ROUND( AVG( totpct_stu ), 1 ) AS top10 FROM avg_top10 GROUP BY schabbrev ORDER BY top10 ; -- OUTPUT: ----------------------------------- schabbrev avg_top10 ---------- --------- Goulding 75.4 Garth 77.7 Sperhead 81.4 Oak_P 83.7 Spring 84.9 -- etc... Question: So this works, but isn't there a lot better way to do it? Thanks! PS -- Looks like homework, but this is, well...real.

  • Install Nod32 antivirus silently?

    - by IT Tech
Hi guys/gals, I was hoping that I could find someone on here that may know if it is possible to install Nod32 on a client PC silently. We have some software that will copy the MSI to the remote PC and run it with any specified parameters. The software needs you to import the license key file and tell it where the server is. Is there any way that these details can be pre specified so the user doesn't have to have any interaction on the remote computer. Many thanks in advance.

  • Windows 7 security and Avast antivirus turned off by themself

    - by Simon Verbeke
I was just browsing around when at once I got messages that UAC, windows defender, Avast, etc. got turned off, without me doing anything. Then my PC turned by itself. I'm now running virus scans and I checked my eventlogs, but found nothing yet. Windows Update also failed to install a new definition after I rebooted. Any idea what this could've been? EDIT: Forgot to mention that everything was turned on again after rebooting. I have since the reboot got nothing abnormal.

  • Trojan Horse Generic.15.apnz Virus Impossible to get rid of?!

    - by DaveDev
Hi Guys I'm new to this forum so I'm unsure whether this is the right place for a question like this. I have a Trojan Horse infection that lives in memory and seems to be impossible to get rid of. I've tried a vew AntiVirus products (Norton, Windows Essentials & AVG Free) all to no avail & I've recently tried a few bootable antivirus solutions I found here: http://www.techmixer.com/free-bootable-antivirus-rescue-cds-download-list/ Kaspersky Rescue Disk 2008 (failed - it wouldn't even load the UI, is there a newer one out there?) F Secure Rescue Disk (Updates & Scanner ran, found 10 infections, said it was going to delete or repair them, but didn't get rid of them) Avira found a load of infections but it froze when I tried to interact with the UI after the scan. Every time I run these I'll load Windows after & run AVG, and it still finds Trojan Horse Generic.15.apnz (in Services.exe) & Trojan Horse Generic.16.ARSU (in svchost.exe) Is anyone familiar with a virus like this? Can anyone suggest how to approach a solution? Thanks Dave

  • Conficker keeps coming back

    - by PHLiGHT
I hadn't run into anyone who actually got this virus until recently when dealing with a new client that didn't believe in patching their systems and consquently have been hit with this pest. I was under the impression that if you have KB958644 installed and ran the latest malicious software removal tool that conficker would be squashed. I have several systems that are fully patched, MSRT has removed the virus yet the bugger keeps coming back. This has even happened to a file server and a Domain Controller. What am I missing here? They are running AVG which I used to recommend but I have been doubting it's effectiveness over the past year or so.

  • Troubles logging into VPN on Win7 64bit

    - by mike
Hi, Before I can successfully logon to my company's VPN it runs a small check in the browser to check my current processes. One of the things it checks (among other things) is to see if you have an antivirus running. If you don't, you can't connect and it says please install one with a couple links to some free ones. The issue I'm having is I recently upgraded to Win7 x64 and I haven't been able to get past the "antivirus check" part. Before, I had AVG running and I never had a single problem for years. Now I tried both AVG and Avast and I still get blocked. Does it have something to do with both of these antiviruses running in *32 mode in the processes? Any help or ideas on how to fix this would be awesome. Thanks!

  • Fixing corrupt files or corrupt file table on a USB drive?

    - by Kelsey
I was doing a virus scan on an external USB drive while copying data over to it. While AVG was scanning my system got locked up I think due to the USB drive running out of space and it required a reboot. Since that time all data on the external drive is no longer accessible. I can see all the files in the root and directories but I cannot browse into any of them as Windows 7 gives an error stating they are corrupt. I think the file table or whatever it uses to store the index of what exists on the drive has been corrupted since it still shows the the drive as being almost full but everything I do a properties check on says it is 0 bytes. Does anyone know how to 'unlock' or recover this data? Is there a way to rebuild the file table somehow? Luckily I can recover this data from other sources as a last resort but I would like to fix this if possible. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Load Testing Java Web Application - find TPS / Avg transaction response time

    - by Steve
    I would like to build my own load testing tool in Java with the goal of being able to load test a web application I am building throughout the development cycle. The web application will be receiving server to server HTTP Post requests and I would like to find its starting transaction per second (TPS) capacity along with the avgerage response time. The Post request and response messages will be in XML (I dont' think that's really applicable though :) ). I have written a very simple Java app to send transactions and count how many transactions it was able to send in one second (1000 ms) however I don't think this is the best way to load test. Really what I want is to send any number of transactions at exactly the same time - i.e. 10, 50, 100 etc. Any help would be appreciated! Oh and here is my current test app code: Thread[] t = new Thread[1]; for (int a = 0; a < t.length; a++) { t[a] = new Thread(new MessageLoop()); } startTime = System.currentTimeMillis(); System.out.println(startTime); for (int a = 0; a < t.length; a++) { t[a].start(); } while ((System.currentTimeMillis() - startTime) < 1000 ) { } if ((System.currentTimeMillis() - startTime) > 1000 ) { for (int a = 0; a < t.length; a++) { t[a].interrupt(); } } long endTime = System.currentTimeMillis(); System.out.println(endTime); System.out.println("Total time: " + (endTime - startTime)); System.out.println("Total transactions: " + count); private static class MessageLoop implements Runnable { public void run() { try { //Test Number of transactions while ((System.currentTimeMillis() - startTime) < 1000 ) { // SEND TRANSACTION HERE count++; } } catch (Exception e) { } } }

  • How Security Products Are Made; An Interview with BitDefender

    - by Jason Fitzpatrick
Most of us use anti-virus and malware scanners, without giving the processes behind their construction and deployment much of a thought. Get an inside look at security product development with this BitDefender interview. Over at 7Tutorials they took a trip to the home offices of BitDefender for an interview with Catalin Co?oi–seen here–BitDefender’s Chief Security Researcher. While it’s notably BitDefender-centric, it’s also an interesting look at the methodology employed by a company specializing in virus/malware protection. Here’s an excerpt from the discussion about data gathering techniques: Honeypots are systems we distributed across our network, that act as victims. Their role is to look like vulnerable targets, which have valuable data on them. We monitor these honeypots continuously and collect all kinds of malware and information about black hat activities. Another thing we do, is broadcast fake e-mail addresses that are automatically collected by spammers from the Internet. Then, they use these addresses to distribute spam, malware or phishing e-mails. We collect all the messages we receive on these addresses, analyze them and extract the required data to update our products and keep our users secure and spam free. • is it possible for windows viruses when downloaded through ubuntu affect my windows os

    - by fr33c0untry
I know that Ubuntu is immune to virus so there is no question of it getting infected while browsing the net.however i frequently transfer files from my pendrive (which i get from other virus infested computers) to my own laptop and save it on the data drive which is shared by both windows and ubuntu.i would like to know if there is a chance for windows viruses which might get saved and then infect it whenever i switch to windows later on.its ironic that i scan my pendrive using avast on windows and then save all my files to my hard drive to keep my laptop free from virus eventhough i have ubuntu.can anyone suggest an alternative.thanks in advance.

  • Install Samba 3.0.24 on Ubuntu Server 10.04 from Source

    - by Nilpo
Has anyone had any luck compiling and installing Samba 3.0.24 on Ubuntu 10.04? I'm trying to set up realtime virus scanning on Samba shares (ClamAV) using the legacy version of Samba as it is the latest release supported by samba-vscan-0.3.6b. I'm no expert at this but I think I have all of the dependencies covered and I'm following the documentation with the source code but I'm getting errors as if there is a problem with the source code. I downloaded the source directly from http://ftp.samba.org/pub/samba/stable/samba-3.0.24.tar.gz After running ./configure and make, I get the following error. Compiling client/mount.cifs.c client/mount.cifs.c: In function ‘main’: client/mount.cifs.c:1068: error: ‘PATH_MAX’ undeclared (first use in this function) client/mount.cifs.c:1068: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once client/mount.cifs.c:1068: error: for each function it appears in.) make: *** [client/mount.cifs.o] Error 1 You can view the full output log here. Can anyone help me get this installed or suggest another means of implementing realtime virus scanning on Samba shares?

For instance, when i tried going to www.askubuntu.com via a link on ubuntu.com it redirected me to some other site than this one. Also when on a page with no flash videos of any kind or pop up windows an ad will start playing. The only way to get it to stop is to wait for it to finish or close the browser and start over again. I have run Clam AV but it has not found anything.

  • Network Security Device/Software

    - by Campo
We currently run Symantec Antivirus Corporate 10.2. The software is really easy to manage on a network but the actual virus detection isn't bad but the malware detection is crap. We recently were infected with a email bot that got us put on some block lists. This has been resolved. I cannot have that happen again. I would like to find a program as easy to manage as symantec that I can install on all the user's workstations as well as the servers. We run a windows 2003 domain. We have a couple 2008 test servers in the environment. Most of the workstations are xp though I am using windows 7 and symantect is not compatible with this OS... So we need a solution that would cover all those operating systems. If it could be installed on macs too that would be a bonus though not necessary at all. This software must detect: Viruses AND Malware I am looking for something that combines the features in anti-malware programs like malwarebytes or spybot with an antivirus program like symantec or AVG. Alternatively if there is a piece of hardware that is a firewall, router, and packet inspection for virus/spam that would be the most ideal solution. I then could supplement with a piece of software that could pickup what the hardware misses. Thank you for your suggestions.
