  • use of json in column chart

    - by Santosh
    I have written the code for column chart as follows: $(document).ready(function() { chart1 = new Highcharts.Chart({ chart: { renderTo: 'container1', type: 'column' }, title: { text: 'Service Calls-Days Over' }, xAxis: { categories:<?php echo json_encode($model['dashchart']); ?> }, yAxis: { }, series: [{ name: 'Service Calls-Days Over', color:'#e48801', data: <?php echo json_encode($model['dashchart']);?> } ] }); but still i am not able to draw the chart.

  • Timeline chart in Excel

    - by Axarydax
Hi, I'd like to see a timeline of events from a database in a "timeline chart", that should look like this: http://i46.tinypic.com/sw3dj5.png - I've made me a small c# program that paints this onto a Bitmap, but that isn't the way to go. I have input data that has 3 fields: StartX EndX Y 2596 15008 1 5438 6783 2 5450 5453 4 5456 5459 4 5462 5466 4 5470 5474 4 5477 5657 5 5662 5665 4 5668 5671 4 As the picture shows, for each line I'd like to have a line from StartX to EndX with a Y value of Y. Stacked bar chart almost solves my problem, but I don't want to have a new line on the chart for every row, I have thousands of rows and I'd like to have X axis as the time axis, and view which events (Y is the type of the event) happened simultaneously. The image ( http://i46.tinypic.com/sw3dj5.png) I've generated with a simple C# program shows that the event SYSTEM was active all the time, and the events TECH and BREAK were almost exclusive, but had some overlaps. I'd like to at least know the correct direction which I should take; I'm lost in the multitude of Excel chart types. Thanks.

  • Using the full width of an Excel chart with two Y-axes

    - by Jørn Schou-Rode
I am trying to create a line chart in MicrosoftExcel 2007 with two data series, each with their own Y-axis. First, I create a simple chart by selecting the two data series, and choosing Insert > Charts > Line from the Ribbon. I now see the following chart in my workbook: I then continue my quest by right clicking one of the data series (lines) and choosing Format data series > Series Options > Secondary Axis. My chart is now looks like this: This is almost what I want. I did not expect to see the gap between the last X-axis tick point (x = 5) and the secondary (right most) Y-axis. Why does Excel introduce this gap? Is there anything I can do to avoid it? I have tried right clicking the X-axis and seleting Format Axis > Axis Options > Position Axis: Between tick marks, but that only introduces a similar gap on by the primary (left most) Y-axis.

  • pchart pie chart legend and graph not correlating

    - by madphp
Hi, I have ten values in the dataset, numbers 1 - 10 and corresponding values. Some of the values are coming back as zero, so they are not added to the chart, BUT, the legend is still listing 1 - 10. Because theres values missing in the chart, the colour coding is knocked off. ie Item 1, has a value of zero, its passed over in the chart, the colour in the legend is red, Item 2, has a value of 4, the percentage is calculated, and the chart gives it the colour red which is the colour for item 1 in the legend. Hope that makes sense. How can I print the legend just for the values that are displayed in the chart? --Mark

  • How to maintain the HTML semantics when HTML is used for drawing diagrams (like organizational chart

    - by Vijay
I have created an organizational chart using ASP.NET on web page. The web page is using strict DOCTYPE and following W3C standards. The chart has a hierarchical layout decided by the manager field in the table that contains employees in the organization. The chart layout has nodes with employee image and other details like job title, department and contact details. Nodes are beautifully arranged and connected by lines (only horizontal or vertical or both). A lot of DIV elements are used (to avoid table) for connecting lines and arranging the chart properly. As suggested by my friend, using DIVs for connecting lines in the chart is semantically wrong. Is there a way by which I can make it semantically correct? Or, am I using HTML for the wrong purpose?

  • Google Charts: Bar chart labels are reversed

    - by True Soft
I create dinamically a chart for a website. I have a key/value map, I sort the values descending, and then create the url: http://chart.googleapis.com/chart? chs=400x200&cht=bhs&chbh=a&chdlp=l&chg=25,0&chma=0,0,0,5&chtt=Chart+test& chxr=0,0,8,1&chds=0,8&chxt=t,y& chd=t:8,5,3& chxl=1:|Label_8|Label_5|Label_3 The values are set by chd=t:8,5,3, and the labels are set by chxl=1:|Label_8|Label_5|Label_3. However, in the chart image the labels are reversed. I searched the documentation, but I didn't get why it is like this. Is it because I didn't set a value correctly, or is this the desired functionality? I could reverse the label texts in chxl from code to be displayed how I want. Is this the right way?

  • Adding Images to an ASP .Net Chart Control

    - by wali
Hello all! I'm not sure if I titled the question correctly so it would be better if I explained what I'm trying to do. I am using the ASP .Net Chart Control to create a line chart showing numbers of trouble calls based on date. What I would like to do is implement a way of annotating the chart with data whereas if there was a spike in trouble calls a line, or asterisk, etc would direct the viewer to "read notes below for an explanation for why the numbers spiked here". From the samples for the chart control there is a way you can add a bitmap to the chart, however I don't see how that will be effective here because the explanations will come dynamically from a database. If anyone's done something like this or has some guidance I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

  • Excel scatter chart with multiple date ranges

    - by Abiel
I have multiple blocks of time series data on an Excel sheet, with each block having its own set of dates. For example, I might have dates in column A, values in column B, and then dates in column D and values in column E. The values in B go with the dates in A, and the values in E go with the dates in D. The dates in A and D may not be the same. I would like to create a scatter chart with a time category axis that is the union of my two input date ranges in columns A and D. If I select all the data and then go insert chart (in Excel 2010), Excel treats only column A as the X axis, and looks at D as just another set of values. I can get Excel to do what I want by first just charting columns A and B, then selecting D and E and copy-pasting onto the chart. However, I would like to avoid this two-step procedure if possible.

  • Hiding a column from a pivot table without removing it from the chart

    - by Simon
I have a pivot table with two columns: number of users who visited a website (impressions) and number of users who registered on the site (regs). The rows are for dates. I want to visualize the percentage of users who registered after visiting the site. Thus, I have the number of users for each cell as a value field, displaying it as percentage of impressions. Generating a pivot chart from the table, impressions and regs are plotted over date as a percentage of impressions. This means there is one line at 100% for impressions (always 100% of itself) and the graph for registrations below that. I'd like to remove the line for impressions, but when I set a filter to do so, registrations vanish as well, since the column for impressions is filtered from the pivot chart as well, turning the value field invalid. How can I just show registrations as a percentage of impressions in the chart?

  • How to display two series via Google Chart API?

    - by Chris
I can't get the two series of numbers to scale together. The chart supports multiple series but for some reason I can't scale it so that the values are displayed within scale. Any help appreciated, Chris

  • Counting point size based on chart area during zooming/unzoomin

    - by Gacek
Hi folks. I heave a quite simple task. I know (I suppose) it should be easy, but from the reasons I cannot understand, I try to solve it since 2 days and I don't know where I'm making the mistake. So, the problem is as follows: - we have a chart with some points - The chart starts with some known area and points have known size - we would like to "emulate" the zooming effect. So when we zoom to some part of the chart, the size of points is getting proportionally bigger. In other words, the smaller part of the chart we select, the bigger the point should get. So, we have something like that. We know this two parameters: initialArea; // Initial area - area of the whole chart, counted as width*height initialSize; // initial size of the points Now lets assume we are handling some kind of OnZoom event. We selected some part of the chart and would like to count the current size of the points float CountSizeOnZoom() { float currentArea = CountArea(...); // the area is counted for us. float currentSize = initialSize * initialArea / currentArea; return currentSize; } And it works. But the rate of change is too fast. In other words, the points are getting really big too soon. So I would like the currentSize to be invertly proportional to currentArea, but with some scaling coefficient. So I created the second function: float CountSizeOnZoom() { float currentArea = CountArea(...); % the area is counted for us. // Lets assume we want the size of points to change ten times slower, than area of the chart changed. float currentSize = initialSize + 0.1f* initialSize * ((initialArea / currentArea) -1); return currentSize; } Lets do some calculations in mind. if currentArea is smaller than initialArea, initialArea/currentArea > 1 and then we add "something" small and postive to initialSize. Checked, it works. Lets check what happens if we would un-zoom. currentArea will be equal to initialArea, so we would have 0 at the right side (1-1), so new size should be equal to initialSize. Right? Yeah. So lets check it... and it doesn't work. My question is: where is the mistake? Or maybe you have any ideas how to count this scaled size depending on current area in some other way?

  • Alert visualization recipe: Get out your blender, drop in some sp_send_dbmail, Google Charts API, add your favorite colors and sprinkle with html. Blend till it’s smooth and looks pretty enough to taste.

    - by Maria Zakourdaev
I really like database monitoring. My email inbox have a constant flow of different types of alerts coming from our production servers with all kinds of information, sometimes more useful and sometimes less useful. Usually database alerts look really simple, it’s usually a plain text email saying “Prod1 Database data file on Server X is 80% used. You’d better grow it manually before some query triggers the AutoGrowth process”. Imagine you could have received email like the one below.  In addition to the alert description it could have also included the the database file growth chart over the past 6 months. Wouldn’t it give you much more information whether the data growth is natural or extreme? That’s truly what data visualization is for. Believe it or not, I have sent the graph below from SQL Server stored procedure without buying any additional data monitoring/visualization tool.   Would you like to visualize your database alerts like I do? Then like myself, you’d love the Google Charts. All you need to know is a little HTML and have a mail profile configured on your SQL Server instance regardless of the SQL Server version. First of all, I hope you know that the sp_send_dbmail procedure has a great parameter @body_format = ‘HTML’, which allows us to send rich and colorful messages instead of boring black and white ones. All that we need is to dynamically create HTML code. This is how, for instance, you can create a table and populate it with some data: DECLARE @html varchar(max) SET @html = '<html>' + '<H3><font id="Text" style='color: Green;'>Top Databases: </H3>' + '<table border="1" bordercolor="#3300FF" style='background-color:#DDF8CC' width='70%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='3'>' + '<tr><font color="Green"><th>Database Name</th><th>Size</th><th>Physical Name</th></tr>' + CAST( (SELECT TOP 10                             td = name,'',                             td = size * 8/1024 ,'',                             td = physical_name              FROM sys.master_files               ORDER BY size DESC             FOR XML PATH ('tr'),TYPE ) AS VARCHAR(MAX)) + '</table>' EXEC msdb.dbo.sp_send_dbmail @recipients = '[email protected]', @subject ='Top databases', @body = @html, @body_format = 'HTML' This is the result:   If you want to add more visualization effects, you can use Google Charts Tools https://google-developers.appspot.com/chart/interactive/docs/index which is a free and rich library of data visualization charts, they’re also easy to populate and embed. There are two versions of the Google Charts Image based charts: https://google-developers.appspot.com/chart/image/docs/gallery/chart_gall This is an old version, it’s officially deprecated although it will be up for a next few years or so. I really enjoy using this one because it can be viewed within the email body. For mobile devices you need to change the “Load remote images” property in your email application configuration.           Charts based on JavaScript classes: https://google-developers.appspot.com/chart/interactive/docs/gallery This API is newer, with rich and highly interactive charts, and it’s much more easier to understand and configure. The only downside of it is that they cannot be viewed within the email body. Outlook, Gmail and many other email clients, as part of their security policy, do not run any JavaScript that’s placed within the email body. However, you can still enjoy this API by sending the report as an email attachment. Here is an example of the old version of Google Charts API, sending the same top databases report as in the previous example but instead of a simple table, this script is using a pie chart right from  the T-SQL code DECLARE @html  varchar(8000) DECLARE @Series  varchar(800),@Labels  varchar(8000),@Legend  varchar(8000);     SET @Series = ''; SET @Labels = ''; SET @Legend = ''; SELECT TOP 5 @Series = @Series + CAST(size * 8/1024 as varchar) + ',',                         @Labels = @Labels +CAST(size * 8/1024 as varchar) + 'MB'+'|',                         @Legend = @Legend + name + '|' FROM sys.master_files ORDER BY size DESC SELECT @Series = SUBSTRING(@Series,1,LEN(@Series)-1),         @Labels = SUBSTRING(@Labels,1,LEN(@Labels)-1),         @Legend = SUBSTRING(@Legend,1,LEN(@Legend)-1) SET @html =   '<H3><font color="Green"> '+@@ServerName+' top 5 databases : </H3>'+    '<br>'+    '<img src="http://chart.apis.google.com/chart?'+    'chf=bg,s,DDF8CC&'+    'cht=p&'+    'chs=400x200&'+    'chco=3072F3|7777CC|FF9900|FF0000|4A8C26&'+    'chd=t:'+@Series+'&'+    'chl='+@Labels+'&'+    'chma=0,0,0,0&'+    'chdl='+@Legend+'&'+    'chdlp=b"'+    'alt="'+@@ServerName+' top 5 databases" />'              EXEC msdb.dbo.sp_send_dbmail @recipients = '[email protected]',                             @subject = 'Top databases',                             @body = @html,                             @body_format = 'HTML' This is what you get. It can be used for applicative reports if you need high levels of customization that you cannot achieve using standard methods like SSRS. If you need more information on how to customize the charts, you can try the following: Image Based Charts wizard https://google-developers.appspot.com/chart/image/docs/chart_wizard  Live Image Charts Playground https://google-developers.appspot.com/chart/image/docs/chart_playground Image Based Charts Parameters List https://google-developers.appspot.com/chart/image/docs/chart_params Java Script Charts Playground https://code.google.com/apis/ajax/playground/?type=visualization Use the above examples as a starting point for your procedures and I’d be more than happy to hear of your implementations of the above techniques. Hello, I have a list of date/timestamps, and I would like to plot these to a chart in Excel. What I'm looking for is a chart that shows "events per hour" or something similar. Can this be done easily if I just have one column of data (the list of timestamps)? I'm using excel 2007 and looking at two data sets. One is 56k events and the other 750, both over the span of a few days.

  • Precisely position a chart in Excel

    - by ldigas
When making a chart in the worksheet (not an independent sheet), is there a way to positon it a little more precise ? Instead of just leaving it there "floating" ? I'm having a bunch of tables, one under another, and every table is gonna have to have its own chart. Is there a way when I copy the first one, under the second one (just change the data) to make them exactly one under another ... not "wiggling" left/right ?

Today Google announced that they are partnering with a number of Chrome web application developers to distribute a number of their Chrome OS Notebooks to lucky fans. That’s when we noticed something interesting that can greatly increase your odds of getting one. Unlike Box, MOG, and Zoho, who are doing random giveaways, the LucidChart giveaway is based on a contest of skill – they are picking the best drawings using their flowchart tool and giving away Chrome Notebooks to the winners. So all you have to do is create one of the most interesting drawings / charts, and you will get your hands on one. We’ve also confirmed this with the fine people at LucidChart, who told us “any user who spends a bit of time and effort to do something creative has a good shot at winning one.” How great is the Chrome Cr-48 Notebook? What’s it all about? We wouldn’t know, since Google hasn’t given us here at How-To Geek an opportunity to use one, despite our attempts. It’s sad, since we’re huge fans of the Chrome browser, that we can’t share our Chrome notebook experiences with hundreds of thousands of daily subscribers and millions of monthly visitors. Hint. • Chart controls for ASP.NET

    - by tolism7
I am looking people's opinion and experience on using chart controls within an ASP.NET application (web forms or MVC) primarily but also in any kind of project. I am currently doing my research and I have a pretty big list of controls to evaluate. My list includes (in no particular order): ASP.NET controls: DevExpress XtraCharts (http://demos.devexpress.com/XtraChartsDemos/) Dundas Chart for .NET (http://www.dundas.com/) Telerik RadChart for ASP.NET AJAX (http://www.telerik.com/) ComponentArt Charting & Visualization for ASP.NET (http://www.componentart.com/) Infragistics WebChart (http://www.infragistics.com/dotnet/netadvantage/aspnet.aspx#Overview) .net Charting (http://www.dotnetcharting.com/) Chart Control for .Net Framework (Microsoft's) (http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2008/11/24/new-asp-net-charting-control-lt-asp-chart-runat-quot-server-quot-gt.aspx) Flash controls: FusionCharts v3 (http://www.fusioncharts.com/) XML/SWF Charts (http://www.maani.us/xml%5Fcharts/index.php) amCharts (http://www.amcharts.com/) AnyChart (http://www.anychart.com/home/) Javascript: Flot (http://code.google.com/p/flot/) Flotr (http://solutoire.com/flotr/) jqPlot (http://www.jqplot.com/index.php) (If I missed some that worth to be compared against the above please let me know.) What I am looking is opinions on using any of the above so I can form my own and help others do the same, based on what I read here. I do not care which one is better. What I care for is why someone likes one of the above and what do these controls offer as a distinct advantage. I am interested in developer's opinion and I would like to find out which things are difficult doing with any of the above controls and which things are easy to achieve. AJAX compatibility (build in to the controls but also manual), ASP.NET compatibility, input capabilities, data binding options, performance, how much code does one need to write in order to create a chart, are some of the things that I would want to read about. I have already done my research on StackOverflow for relevant questions but there is nothing on the level of detail that I would want to read in order to make a responsible decision.

  • Google Visualization API chart in Blogger / Blogspot

    - by gotgenes
Is it possible to embed (chart) visualizations created by the Google Visualization API in a Blogger post? I tried stripping out the <head> and <body> tags (and closing tags) from the pie chart example, however, the pie chart visualization fails to render, even on a published post. NOTE: I'm asking about the Visualization API, rather than the Google Image Charts (Charts API).

  • secondary y axis on WPF toolkit chart

    - by tk
Question 1) I want to plot two line series in a WPF toolkit chart. (http://wpf.codeplex.com/) Can I set Y-axis of one data series as a secondary y-axis? Question 2) Is there a comprehensive document about the WPF toolkit chart? I used to use WinForms Chart control(System.Windows.Forms.DataVisualization), which have great references. But I cannot find a library document for WPF toolkit.

  • Determine the colours used by the ASP.NET Chart control

    - by Moose Factory
I'd like to find out which colours are used for a particular pallette in the ASP.NET Chart control. I already know there is an enum on the Chart class to set the palette, e.g. myChart.Palette = ChartColorPalette.Berry; But I'd like to know which colours belong to the palette. Before anyone asks - as I know you will - the reason I need to know the colours is because I want to create my own legend outside of the chart image. I also know that I can set my own colours on the DataPoints for the chart, but I'd rather not have to implement my own palette.
