• Django how to handle # in variable name.

  I've got a dictionary in python which is assigned as a template variable. One of the keys is named "#text" but when i try to access it using {{ artist.image.3."#text"}} I get an error which is File "/home/jack/Desktop/test/appengine/lib/django/django/template/__init__.py", line 558, in __init__ raise TemplateSyntaxError, "Could not parse the remainder: %s" % token[upto:] TemplateSyntaxError: Could not parse the remainder: "#text" So how can I use this in the template? I've tried putting quotes around it but to no avail. I'd like to not modify the dictionary if possible, but if its easy enough to do then I guess its okay. Thanks

• destroy an android service

  I am using a service in my android app, which is called when an alarm is activated by a calander. When the service has been activated i want it to be destroyed by the OnStart() method once it has completed its code. My OnStart() method: @Override public void onStart(Intent intent, int startId) { super.onStart(intent, startId); Vibrator vi = (Vibrator) getSystemService(Context.VIBRATOR_SERVICE); vi.vibrate(5000); Toast.makeText(this, "MyAlarmService.onStart()", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show(); //CODE HERE TO DESTROY SERVICE?? } This bassically means when the service is called it runs the code in the OnStart() method and i want it to destroy itself.   Hi folks My problem is that I'm trying to count which tag has been used most in a table of user-submitted code. But the problem is with the database structure. The current query I'm using is this: SELECT tag1, COUNT(tag1) AS counttag FROM code GROUP BY tag1 ORDER BY counttag DESC LIMIT 1 This is fine, except, it only counts the most often occurence of tag1 - and my database has 5 tags per post - so there's columns tag1, tag2, tag3, tag4, tag5. How do I get the highest occurring tag value from all 5 columns in one query? Jack

• AJAX response inside jqplot not working

  I'm trying to render data from an AJAX response as a bar chart with jqplot. To render this bar chart I use two variables: s1 which contains the numbers ex: s1 = [22,67,32,89] ticks which contains the name corresponding to a number inside s1 ex: ticks = ["Jack", "Mary", "Paul", "John"] So my AJAX returns two variables, data1 and data2. • Applying attribute to SVG using JS prompts 'this.textBox.style is undefined'. Why?

  Hi, I'm using the following code to draw an SVG text box, and then change its text anchor attribute to 'left' as it defaults to center and that's nasty. The text generates correctly, but when I add this second line I get the error 'this.textBox.style is undefined' in my error console.   Hi, I've read that you can disable (make physically unclickable) a html button simply but appending 'disable' to its tag, but not as an attribute, as follows: <input type="button" name=myButton value="disable" disabled> Since this setting is not an attribute, how can I add this in dynamically via JavaScript to disable a button that was previously enabled?

• Is block style really this important?

  I just watched a video of Douglas Crockford's presentation about his 2009 book JavaScript: The Good Parts. In the video, he explains that the following block is dangerous because it produces silent errors: return { ok: false }; And that it should actually be written like this (emphasising that although seemingly identical the behavioural difference is crucial): return { ok: false }; You can see his comments around 32 minutes into the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQVTIJBZook&feature=player_embedded#!&start=1920 I have not heard this before, and was wondering if this rule still applies or if this requirement in syntax has been overcome by JavaScript developments since this statement was made. • iPhone: App crashes when I click on a cell in table view.

  Hi there, Compiling my application works—everything is fine. The only errors I get are by deprecated functions (setText). The only problem is now, is that when I tap on a cell in my table, the app crashes, even though it's meant to push to the next view in the stack. Any solutions are appreciated, if you need any code, just ask. Also, how can I only make sure that one cell goes to only one view? For example: When I tap on CSS, it takes me to a new table with different levels of CSS. WHen I tap on an item in that new view, it comes up with an article on what I just selected. Regards, Jack

  I'm not sure if 'architecture' is the correct term, but I've been looking for some articles online which talk about programming design and more about how best to use languages such as JavaScript in a code design sense rather than the actual syntax itself. I have found many websites but a lot seem to be very out dated, and I'm not sure what developments have taken place with JavaScript over the years so do not know how old is too old. If anybody could suggest some great websites, or maybe specific articles you think would be useful, that would be highly appreciated. I am a beginner programmer currently using JavaScript with XML and of course HTML & CSS, and I'm currently trying to get further into and learn more about web development.

  I need to retrieve all records ordered alphabetically. Except for a predefined list of record's columns which their records should appear first in a given predefined order, then all other records should be sorted alphabetically based on the same column For instance, assume we have the following table which is called Names Lets assume the predefined list is ("Mathew", "Ashraf", "Jack"). I.e. these are the names of whom their records should be listed first as in the predefined order. So the desired query result should be: Which query could retrieve this custom order ? P.S, I'm using MySQL. • Unsure how to design JavaScript / jQuery functionality which uses XML to create HTML objects

  Hi, I'm using JavScript and jQuery to read an XML document and subsequently use the information from the XML to create HTML objects. The main 'C' nodes in the XML document all have a type attribute, and depending on the type I want to run a function which will create a new html object using the other attributes assigned to that particular 'C' node node. Currently, I have a for loop which extracts each 'C' node from the XML and also it's attributes (e.g. width, height, x, y). Also inside the for loop, I have an if statement which checks the 'type' attribute of the current 'C' node being processed, and depending on the type it will run a different function which will then create a new HTML object with the attributes which have been drawn from the XML. The problem is that there may be more than one 'C' node of the same type, so for example when I'm creating the function that will run when a 'C' node of 'type=1' is detected, I cannot use the 'var p = document.createElement('p')' because if a 'C' node of the same type comes up later in the loop it will clash and override that element with that variable that has just been created. I'm not really sure how to approach this? Here is my entire script.   So I thought this should be easy, but, I'm n00bing out here and failing epicly (as they say on teh interwebz).   Hi, I'm creating a button dynamically using JavaScript and at the same time assigning attributes such as 'ID', 'type' etc and also 'onclick' in order to trigger a function. All works fine apart from the assignment of the 'onclick'. When clicked, the button is not triggering the function as it is supposed to. the function I'm trying to run is 'navigate(-1)' as seen below. Where am I going wrong? • Python how to handle # in a dictionary

  I've got some json from last.fm's api which I've serialised into a dictionary using simplejson. A quick example of the basic structure is below. { "artist": "similar": { "artist": { "name": "Blah", "image": {"#text":"URLHERE","size": "small"} "image": {"#text":"URLHERE","size": "medium"} "image": {"#text":"URLHERE","size": "large"} } } } Any ideas how I can access the image urls of various different sizes. My attempts at accessing the #text variable don't seem to work because python doesn't appear to like #'s in the names. And any ideas how I can easily get the url for the depending on the size?   Hi, I am aware of this question already existing, but it has given me no luck. I have an application which loads a physicial XML document via the following method: jQuery.ajax( { type: "GET", url: fileName, dataType: "xml", success: function(data) { etc... I parse the XML and convert it into a string which is saved into a variable so that it can easily be stored in a database. How can I now convert the data in this variable back into an XML object so that it can be parsed as such?

• Using JavaScript to render HTML; nothing appearing but values will alert

  Hi, I'm taking some information from some variables I have already defined outside this function to create a html svg text box. Here is the function which is causing me trouble: RenderTextBox:function() { alert('this.x: ' + this.x); alert('this.y: ' + this.y); this.textBox = paper.text(this.x, this.y, this.htmlTextBox); } The alerts works prefectly, and prompt me with the values expected. However, the final line which is supposed to create the text box puts them nowhere to be seen. Does anybody know why? If I replace 'this.x, this.y..' with numerical values in the final line of the function, the text box is placed correctly. It's only when I use the 'this.x' and 'this.y' that I have issues.

• JavaScript, jQuery, XML - if statement not executing for unknown reason

  Hi, I have a 'for' loop which extracts data from an XML document and adds it into some JavaScript objects, each time the loop executes I want it to run a certain function depending on the value of the attribute 'typ' which is being retrieved from the xml. Currently, the data from the XML is successfully being parsed, which is proven by the first 'alert' you can see which produces the correct value. However, neither of the 'alert' lines in the 'if' statement lower down are being executed and as a result I cannot test the 'ctyp3' function which is supposed to be called. • What's the best way to access a MS Access database using PHP?

  Hi, I need to access some data from an MS Access database and retrieve some data from it using PHP. I've looked around the web, and found the following line which seems to correctly connect to the database: $conn->Open("DRIVER={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)}; DBQ=C:\wamp\www\data\MYDB.mdb"); However, I have tried to retrieve some data in the following way: $query = "SELECT pageid FROM pages_table"; $result = mysqli_query($conn, $query); $amount_of_pages = 0; if(mysqli_num_rows($result) <= 0) echo "No results found."; else while($row = mysqli_fetch_array($result, MYSQL_ASSOC)) $amount_of_pages++; And was presented with the following errors: Warning: mysqli_query() expects parameter 1 to be mysqli, object given in C:\wamp\www\data\index.php on line 19 Warning: mysqli_num_rows() expects parameter 1 to be mysqli_result, null given in C:\wamp\www\data\index.php on line 23 No results found. • Having trouble applying style to SVG using JavaScript upon object creation

  Hi, I have a function which creates an SVG text object using JavaScript. As soon as the object is created, I want it to have the style attribute which in CSS would be text-anchor: left. Currently, it doesn't work. I have tried many variations, and I also read that when using styles in JavaScript you must remove any '-' dashes and format the attribute name in camel casing (is this true?). • scorecardresearch dot com: weird tracking pixel

  I'm seeing very weird behaviour in relation to this domain and a tracking image. On a specific page on our site, I'm seeing a script that's being added dynamically, apparently via flash (I wasn't even aware that flash could alter the DOM ...) That script is located at: http://scorecardresearch.com/beacon.js When I request that URL, I see a 1x1 gif. Another weird point is that this domain appears to break all the web-based whois tools; entering that domain results in a 1x1 gif. This is even to the extent where, if I enter scorecardresearch.com into the Title as part of this question, GIF code appears just below it! Hence, the "dot" in the title. The only 'unusual' thing on the page is a slideshare 'widget', which is flash-based - that's why I'm concluding that flash is altering the DOM. Anyone know what is going on here? How concerned should I be?

  I can use mod_rewrite to redirect /dynamic.php/xyz.php to /dynamic.php and then server different content for xyz.php using $_SERVER - where xyz.php is any arbitrary filename requested by a client. No problem so far. When a client connects to my WebDAV server they can list the contents of a directory, eg / or /dynamic.php/ - how do I intercept this request so I can dynamically generate a list of available files for the client (which requests this list using PROPFIND)?

• HTML5 or Javascript game engine to develop a browser game

  I would like to start developing a MMO browser game, like Travian or Ogame, probably involving also a bit of more sophisticated graphical features such as players interacting in real time with a 2d map or something like that. My main doubt is what kind of development tools I should use: I've a good experience with PHP and MySQL for the server side and Javascript (and jQuery) regarding the client side. Coding everything from scratch would be of course really painful so I was wondering if I should use a javascript game engine or not. Are there (possibly free) game engine you would recommend? Are they good enough to develop a big game? Also, I saw a lot of HTML5 games popping up lately but I'm now sure if using HTML5 is a good idea or not. Would you recommend it? What are the pro and cons about using HTML5? If you'd recommend it, do you have any good links regarding game development with HTML5? (PS: I know that HTML5 and a Javascript engine are not mutually exclusive, I just didn't know how to formulate a proper title since English is not my main language. So, please, answer addressing HTML5 and a game engine pro and cons separately)
