• Ubuntu log in dialog hot key

  Hi, I am having trouble starting up Ubuntu (Karmic). Bascially I get to the bit where the log in dialog is supposed to appear, but it doesn't. • Why does the video download buffer empty itself half-way through playing a DIVX video in Firefox/Ubu

  If I load and play a long (2 hr) DIVX movie in the browser using the mplayer-mozilla plugin, the player stops playing after a period of time and resets itself, losing the loaded video buffer, so that the movie needs to be re-downloaded.   For some machines this works, for some it doesn't. Xvfb :99 -screen 0 1280x1024x32 However, on most machines this works: Xvfb :99 -screen 0 1280x1024x24 What is the secret ingredient to getting Xvfb working with 32 bit color? Note: I'm running this on a Karmic box.

  Is there a way I can determine if hardware virtualisation is enabled in Karmic? I know my processor is capable of it (from knowing it's an AMD Athlon 64 x2 & via something coming out when I type egrep '(vmx|svm)' --color=always /proc/cpuinfo), but I can't tell if I need to flash my bios to enable it.

• Monaco font not antialiased in some GTK apps

  I have a strange issue with the Monaco font on Ubuntu Karmic. I have recently installed the Monaco font just to see what the hype is all about. The problem that I am facing now is that is not antialiased in some GTK apps (namely in Firefox and Eclipse), but it is antialiased in KDE apps (konsole) and in Chromium. I have hinting set to slight. Any help is appreciated.

• Allow X Client Display through TCP on Lucid

  On Karmic, to allow other PCs to open and X-Window on a station, one had to edit /etc/gdm.conf and change DisallowTCP to false. That file no longer exists on Lucid. I tried changing an entry in /etc/gdm/gdm.schemas (XML format) but that did not make a difference. Any ideas on where to go for this?

  Hi all, I'm trying to copy and paste lines of code to the linux terminal. However, I've noticed that when the copied text is too long (let's say, 60 or more lines), it gets trimmed and altered in an apparently random way (e.g. some characters missing). I found the same problem in Ubuntu Karmic Koala, Fedora 10 and Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope. Any clue why this happens and if I can increase the size of safely copy/pasteable text? Thanks!

Using the gnome settings, I managed to set it to switch with Alt+Shift (windows style), but I really want to limit it to Right Alt + Right Shift, but that option isn't available in the gnome wizard. I've opened gconf-editor and found the kbd configuration, but trying to add 'r' or 'right_' prefixes to the keys didn't help. Is this possible?
