  • What does the windbg command "kd" do?

    - by Oskar
    I ran kd by mistake and got some output that inteerested me, a reference to a line of code in my module that I can't see on the call stack of any thread. The lines weren't the beginnning of the method so I don't think the reference is to a function pointer, but possibly the result of an exception being stored in memory??? Of course, that happens to be what I'm looking for... Update: The stack trace of the exception is: 0:000> kb *** Stack trace for last set context - .thread/.cxr resets it ChildEBP RetAddr Args to Child 0174f168 734ea84f 2cb9e950 00000000 2cb9e950 kernel32!LoadTimeZoneInformation+0x2b 0174f1c4 734ead92 00000022 00000001 000685d0 msvbvm60! As suggested, it might all be a mismatch between pdbs and dlls, but it seems a coincidence that we end up in the right classes and methods

  • Visual C++ 2008 runtime error-- debug vs release exe problem?

    - by larryq
    Hi everyone, I have a Windows executable (native, not .Net) project that I'm trying to pass along to a new team member. It's a graphics modeling tool that uses the Qt widget library and OpenGL. The project runs fine on my box but when we buld and link it on this new member's machine and he tries deubugging it, here's what he sees (not all entries included, for brevity): ModelingTool.exe': Loaded 'C:\ModelingTool\ModelingTool\ModelingTool\Debug\ModelingTool.exe', Symbols loaded. 'ModelingTool.exe': Loaded 'C:\Windows\System32\ntdll.dll', Cannot find or open the PDB file 'ModelingTool.exe': Loaded 'C:\Windows\System32\kernel32.dll', Cannot find or open the PDB file 'ModelingTool.exe': Loaded 'C:\Windows\System32\opengl32.dll', Cannot find or open the PDB file 'ModelingTool.exe': Loaded 'C:\Windows\System32\msvcrt.dll', Cannot find or open the PDB file 'ModelingTool.exe': Loaded 'C:\Windows\System32\dwmapi.dll', Cannot find or open the PDB file 'ModelingTool.exe': Loaded 'C:\Qt\4.2.2\bin\Qt3Supportd4.dll', Symbols loaded. 'ModelingTool.exe': Loaded 'C:\Program Files\Spyware Doctor\smum32.dll', Binary was not built with debug information. Debugger:: An unhandled non-continuable exception was thrown during process load The program '[5936] ModelingTool.exe: Native' has exited with code -1072365566 (0xc0150002). Would anyone care to guess what's wrong here? Some sort of debug-release mismatch perhaps?

  • How do I patch a Windows API at runtime so that it to returns 0 in x64?

    - by Jorge Vasquez
    In x86, I get the function address using GetProcAddress() and write a simple XOR EAX,EAX; RET; in it. Simple and effective. How do I do the same in x64? bool DisableSetUnhandledExceptionFilter() { const BYTE PatchBytes[5] = { 0x33, 0xC0, 0xC2, 0x04, 0x00 }; // XOR EAX,EAX; RET; // Obtain the address of SetUnhandledExceptionFilter HMODULE hLib = GetModuleHandle( _T("kernel32.dll") ); if( hLib == NULL ) return false; BYTE* pTarget = (BYTE*)GetProcAddress( hLib, "SetUnhandledExceptionFilter" ); if( pTarget == 0 ) return false; // Patch SetUnhandledExceptionFilter if( !WriteMemory( pTarget, PatchBytes, sizeof(PatchBytes) ) ) return false; // Ensures out of cache FlushInstructionCache(GetCurrentProcess(), pTarget, sizeof(PatchBytes)); // Success return true; } static bool WriteMemory( BYTE* pTarget, const BYTE* pSource, DWORD Size ) { // Check parameters if( pTarget == 0 ) return false; if( pSource == 0 ) return false; if( Size == 0 ) return false; if( IsBadReadPtr( pSource, Size ) ) return false; // Modify protection attributes of the target memory page DWORD OldProtect = 0; if( !VirtualProtect( pTarget, Size, PAGE_EXECUTE_READWRITE, &OldProtect ) ) return false; // Write memory memcpy( pTarget, pSource, Size ); // Restore memory protection attributes of the target memory page DWORD Temp = 0; if( !VirtualProtect( pTarget, Size, OldProtect, &Temp ) ) return false; // Success return true; } This example is adapted from code found here: http://www.debuginfo.com/articles/debugfilters.html#overwrite .

  • Supress output from Visual Studio output pane (C++)

    - by Ryan Ginstrom
    When I run my Win32 project in the Visual Studio debugger, I get this huge screed of output about which DLLs were loaded, first-chance exceptions, and so on. Is there a way that I can suppress this output? Some day, I might want to know when 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ntdll.dll' was loaded, but normally I don't care. This is especially true when I'm running unit tests, and just want to be told whether any of the tests failed. This stuff isn't output with console applications, but it is with windows applications. To give an example of what I mean, here are the first lines from the output of a recent unit-test run. 'MyProject.exe': Loaded 'C:\dev\MyProject\Testing\MyProject.exe', Symbols loaded. 'MyProject.exe': Loaded 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ntdll.dll' 'MyProject.exe': Loaded 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64\kernel32.dll' 'MyProject.exe': Loaded 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64\KernelBase.dll' 'MyProject.exe': Loaded 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64\dbghelp.dll' 'MyProject.exe': Loaded 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64\msvcrt.dll' 'MyProject.exe': Loaded 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64\user32.dll' 'MyProject.exe': Loaded 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64\gdi32.dll' 'MyProject.exe': Loaded 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64\lpk.dll' 'MyProject.exe': Loaded 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64\usp10.dll' 'MyProject.exe': Loaded 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64\advapi32.dll' ... and on and on ...

  • C++ Builder 2010 Exception Dead Lock ???

    - by James
    Hello Is this some kind of exception dead lock i am facing? How to avoid it ? Have a look at below line where i have TIdContext objects of connected clients stored in an objlist and at times i need to process it. But if one user is disconnected while another thread is processing the list, then for that freed TIdContext-Data object I am getting Access voilation, Ok its fine i am using try/catch but problem is that at below line there is some kind of dead lock and process hangs , if i attach a debuger it show Access voilation Again and Again and Again, and cpu coonsumption goes up because of that exception dead lock. AnsiString UserID = ((Tmyobject*) ((TIdContext*) ObjList->Objects[i])->Data)->UserID; i know i can check before accessing the object, if object is not Null, It works.. But my question is what if once in a blue moon the Data object is freed at the point when NULL check is performed and on next line when again i am accessing the object i get same dead lock ??? So how to avoid/handle this dead lock exception ? Here is the call stack... :005F07C0 System::AnsiStringBase::AnsiStringBase(this=:0285FCE0, src=????) :0040223F System::AnsiStringT<0>::AnsiStringT<0>(this=:0285FCE0, src=:00000008) :00457996 TSomeClass::SomeFunction(this=:009D8230, UserID={ }, DataSize={ }, ) :0047BFF1 __linkproc__ ThreadProc(Thread=:009561C0) :004AD00E __linkproc__ ThreadWrapper(Parameter=:009EAA30) :7c80b729 ; C:\WINDOWS\system32\kernel32.dll Please helppppppppppppppppppppp Thanks

  • Does the pointer to free() have to point to beginning of the memory block, or can it point to the interior?

    - by Lambert
    The question is in the title... I searched but couldn't find anything. Edit: I don't really see any need to explain this, but because people think that what I'm saying makes no sense (and that I'm asking the wrong questions), here's the problem: Since people seem to be very interested in the "root" cause of all the problem rather than the actual question asked (since that apparently helps things get solved better, let's see if it does), here's the problem: I'm trying to make a D runtime library based on NTDLL.dll, so that I can use that library for subsystems other than the Win32 subsystem. So that forces me to only link with NTDLL.dll. Yes, I'm aware that the functions are "undocumented" and could change at any time (even though I'd bet a hundred dollars that wcstombs will still do the same exact thing 20 years from now, if it still exists). Yes, I know people (especially Microsoft) don't like developers linking to that library, and that I'll probably get criticized for the right here. And yes, those two points above mean that programs like chkdsk and defragmenters that run before the Win32 subsystem aren't even supposed to be created in the first place, because it's literally impossible to link with anything like kernel32.dll or msvcrt.dll and still have NT-native executables, so we developers should just pretend that those stages are meant to be forever out of our reaches. But no, I doubt that anyone here would like me to paste a few thousand lines of code and help me look through them and try to figure out why memory allocations that aren't failing are being rejected by the source code I'm modifying. So that's why I asked about a different problem than the "root" cause, even though that's supposedly known to be the best practice by the community. If things still don't make sense, feel free to post comments below! :)

  • Mysterious double execution of Click handler after change to Windows 2008 Server

    - by mjn
    After moving a Delphi 2009 application from a Windows 2003 / Citrix environment to a 64 bit Windows 2008 R2 environment (users now use RDP instead of Citrix), there are frequent runtime errors which are caused by a double exection of a menu item click handler. The first call of the event handler opens a modal form. Then the same event handler is triggered again and thus a runtime exception occurs since the visible form can not be made modal. • How do I handle freeing unmanaged structures on application close?

    - by LostKaleb
    I have a C# project in which i use several unmanaged C++ functions. More so, I also have static IntPtr that I use as parameters for those functions. I know that whenever I use them, I should implement IDisposable in that class and use a destructor to invoke the Dispose method, where I free the used IntPtr, as is said in the MSDN page. public void Dispose() { Dispose(true); GC.SuppressFinalize(this); } private void Dispose(bool disposing) { // Check to see if Dispose has already been called. if (!this.disposed) { if (disposing) { component.Dispose(); } CloseHandle(m_InstanceHandle); m_InstanceHandle = IntPtr.Zero; disposed = true; } } [System.Runtime.InteropServices.DllImport("Kernel32")] private extern static Boolean CloseHandle(IntPtr handle); However, when I terminate the application, I'm still left with a hanging process in TaskManager. I believe that it must be related to the used of the MarshalAs instruction in my structures: [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential, CharSet = CharSet.Ansi)] public struct SipxAudioCodec { [MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.ByValTStr, SizeConst=32)] public string CodecName; public SipxAudioBandwidth Bandwidth; public int PayloadType; } When I create such a structure should I also be careful to free the space it allocs using a destructor? [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential, CharSet = CharSet.Ansi)] public struct SipxAudioCodec { [MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.ByValTStr, SizeConst=32)] public string CodecName; public SipxAudioBandwidth Bandwidth; public int PayloadType; ~SipxAudioCodec() { Marshal.FreeGlobal(something...); } }

  • Convert VBA to VBS

    - by dnLL
    I have a little VBA script with some functions that I would like to convert to a single VBS file. Here is an example of what I got: Private Declare Function GetPrivateProfileString Lib "kernel32" Alias "GetPrivateProfileStringA" (ByVal lpApplicationName As String, ByVal lpKeyName As Any, ByVal lpDefault As String, ByVal lpReturnedString As String, ByVal nSize As Long, ByVal lpFileName As String) As Long Private Function ReadIniFileString(ByVal Sect As String, ByVal Keyname As String) As String Dim Worked As Long Dim RetStr As String * 128 Dim StrSize As Long Dim iNoOfCharInIni As Integer Dim sIniString, sProfileString As String iNoOfCharInIni = 0 sIniString = "" If Sect = "" Or Keyname = "" Then MsgBox "Erreur lors de la lecture des paramètres dans " & IniFileName, vbExclamation, "INI" Access.Application.Quit Else sProfileString = "" RetStr = Space(128) StrSize = Len(RetStr) Worked = GetPrivateProfileString(Sect, Keyname, "", RetStr, StrSize, IniFileName) If Worked Then iNoOfCharInIni = Worked sIniString = Left$(RetStr, Worked) End If End If ReadIniFileString = sIniString End Function And then, I need to use this function to put some values in strings. VBS doesn't seem to like any of my var declaration ((Dim) MyVar As MyType). If I'm able to adapt that code to VBS, I should be able to do the rest of my functions too. How can I adapt/convert this to VBS? Thank you.

  • VB.NET Program Locks Up with Internet Explorer Opened

    - by aaronsj
    I'm using Visual Studio 2008 and developing a VB.NET application. I'm having strange lockup problems with my program, but only when Internet explorer 8 is opened. When I cover my form with another window and then uncover it, I find that it has locked up. My program has no references to IE and the only thing it even has to do with IE is using Process.Start with a web address. My program works fine and exactly as it should, but only when IE is not opened. Does anyone know why a program would lock up only while IE is running? Edit: I've done some digging and I've found the offending thread in my program. I don't know what starts this thread or what it does, but when I kill it, my program no longer freezes. The thread is one of the CreateApplicationContext threads, here is the last few items in the stack trace of that thread. 6 ntkrnlpa.exe+0x897bc 7 ntdll.dll!KiFastSystemCallRet 8 mscorwrks.dll!LogHelp_TerminateOnAssert+0x61 9 mscorwrks.dll!DllUnregisterServerInternal+0x10523 10 mscorwrks.dll!DllUnregisterServerInternal+0x10542 11 mscorwrks.dll!StrongNameErrorInfo+0x34387 12 mscorwrks.dll!StrongNameErrorInfo+0x34815 13 mscorwrks.dll!CreateApplicationContext+0xbc35 14 KERNEL32.dll!GetModuleHandleA+0xdf Process explorer says my program is using no CPU nor throwing any exceptions while it is hung.

  • Detecting Idle Time with Global Mouse and Keyboard Hooks in WPF

    - by jdanforth
    Years and years ago I wrote this blog post about detecting if the user was idle or active at the keyboard (and mouse) using a global hook. Well that code was for .NET 2.0 and Windows Forms and for some reason I wanted to try the same in WPF and noticed that a few things around the keyboard and mouse hooks didn’t work as expected in the WPF environment. So I had to change a few things and here’s the code for it, working in .NET 4. I took the liberty and refactored a few things while at it and here’s the code now. I’m sure I will need it in the far future as well. using System; using System.Diagnostics; using System.Runtime.InteropServices; namespace Irm.Tim.Snapper.Util { public class ClientIdleHandler : IDisposable { public bool IsActive { get; set; } int _hHookKbd; int _hHookMouse; public delegate int HookProc(int nCode, IntPtr wParam, IntPtr lParam); public event HookProc MouseHookProcedure; public event HookProc KbdHookProcedure; //Use this function to install thread-specific hook. [DllImport("user32.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Auto, CallingConvention = CallingConvention.StdCall)] public static extern int SetWindowsHookEx(int idHook, HookProc lpfn, IntPtr hInstance, int threadId); //Call this function to uninstall the hook. [DllImport("user32.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Auto, CallingConvention = CallingConvention.StdCall)] public static extern bool UnhookWindowsHookEx(int idHook); //Use this function to pass the hook information to next hook procedure in chain. • SetWindowLong in CustomDraw causes unhandled exception

    - by neeul
    Hello, I am making some changes to a CSliderCtrl using the Custom Draw, the control is to be used in a dialog. Here is the structure: In my MessageMap I have : ON_NOTIFY_REFLECT_EX(NM_CUSTOMDRAW, OnNMCustomdraw) The OnNMCustomdraw method looks like the following: BOOL CCustomSliderCtrl::OnNMCustomdraw(NMHDR *pNMHDR, LRESULT *pResult) { *pResult = CDRF_DODEFAULT; LPNMCUSTOMDRAW pNMCD = reinterpret_cast<LPNMCUSTOMDRAW>(pNMHDR); switch(pNMCD->dwDrawStage) { case CDDS_PREPAINT: { //Dialogs don't receive CDRF_NOTIFYITEMDRAW notifcations by returning it as part of pResult, we must //use the following so we ensure we receive the msg SetWindowLong(pNMHDR->hwndFrom, DWL_MSGRESULT, CDRF_NOTIFYITEMDRAW); return TRUE; } case CDDS_ITEMPREPAINT: if(pNMCD->dwItemSpec == TBCD_CHANNEL) { ...SNIP... SetWindowLong(pNMHDR->hwndFrom, DWL_MSGRESULT, CDRF_SKIPDEFAULT); return TRUE; } } return FALSE; } Reading around I learnt that you had to use SetWindowLong to set the return value for the custom draw, otherwise your method will not always receive the CDDS_ITEMPREPAINT message. However, when using SetWindowLong my application will never receive the CDDS_ITEMPREPAINT and so my slider just looks like a standard slider. The application crashes when any sort of interaction takes place upon the slider, such as hovering over it or minimizing and maximizing the dialog. I snipped the TBCD_CHANNEL code as it is never reached. When running in debug mode, it crashes at the end of the AfxUnlockGlobals method, in afxcrit.cpp. Here is a stack trace: Update: Since adding debug symbols, the crash seems to be picked up at CWnd::DefWindowProc mwthod. comctl32.dll!_TrackBarWndProc@16() + 0x551 bytes user32.dll!_InternalCallWinProc@20() + 0x28 bytes user32.dll!_UserCallWinProcCheckWow@32() + 0xb7 bytes user32.dll!_CallWindowProcAorW@24() + 0x51 bytes user32.dll!_CallWindowProcW@20() + 0x1b bytes mfc90ud.dll!CWnd::DefWindowProcW(unsigned int nMsg=15, unsigned int wParam=0, long lParam=0) Line 1043 + 0x20 bytes C++ mfc90ud.dll!CWnd::WindowProc(unsigned int message=15, unsigned int wParam=0, long lParam=0) Line 1756 + 0x1c bytes C++ mfc90ud.dll!AfxCallWndProc(CWnd * pWnd=0x0012fdbc, HWND__ * hWnd=0x000308fe, unsigned int nMsg=15, unsigned int wParam=0, long lParam=0) Line 240 + 0x1c bytes C++ mfc90ud.dll!AfxWndProc(HWND__ * hWnd=0x000308fe, unsigned int nMsg=15, unsigned int wParam=0, long lParam=0) Line 403 C++ mfc90ud.dll!AfxWndProcBase(HWND__ * hWnd=0x000308fe, unsigned int nMsg=15, unsigned int wParam=0, long lParam=0) Line 441 + 0x15 bytes C++ user32.dll!_InternalCallWinProc@20() + 0x28 bytes user32.dll!_UserCallWinProcCheckWow@32() + 0xb7 bytes user32.dll!_DispatchClientMessage@20() + 0x4d bytes user32.dll!___fnDWORD@4() + 0x24 bytes ntdll.dll!_KiUserCallbackDispatcher@12() + 0x13 bytes user32.dll!_NtUserDispatchMessage@4() + 0xc bytes user32.dll!_DispatchMessageW@4() + 0xf bytes mfc90ud.dll!AfxInternalPumpMessage() Line 183 C++ mfc90ud.dll!CWinThread::PumpMessage() Line 900 C++ mfc90ud.dll!AfxPumpMessage() Line 190 + 0xd bytes C++ mfc90ud.dll!CWnd::RunModalLoop(unsigned long dwFlags=4) Line 4386 + 0x5 bytes C++ mfc90ud.dll!CDialog::DoModal() Line 584 + 0xc bytes C++ SetSelection.exe!CSetSelectionApp::InitInstance() Line 64 + 0xb bytes C++ mfc90ud.dll!AfxWinMain(HINSTANCE__ * hInstance=0x00400000, HINSTANCE__ * hPrevInstance=0x00000000, wchar_t * lpCmdLine=0x00020a84, int nCmdShow=1) Line 37 + 0xd bytes C++ SetSelection.exe!wWinMain(HINSTANCE__ * hInstance=0x00400000, HINSTANCE__ * hPrevInstance=0x00000000, wchar_t * lpCmdLine=0x00020a84, int nCmdShow=1) Line 34 C++ SetSelection.exe!__tmainCRTStartup() Line 578 + 0x35 bytes C SetSelection.exe!wWinMainCRTStartup() Line 403 C kernel32.dll!_BaseProcessStart@4() + 0x23 bytes So, does anyone have any insight into this matter?   • Impersonation - Access is denied

    - by krisg
    I am having trouble using impersonation to delete a PerformanceCounterCategory from an MVC website. I have a static class and when the application starts it checks whether or not a PerformanceCounterCategory exists, and if it contains the correct counters. If not, it deletes the category and creates it again with the required counters. It works fine when running under the built in webserver Cassini, but when i try run it through IIS7 (Vista) i get the following error: Access is denied Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: Access is denied The code used is from an MS article, from memory... var username = "user"; var password = "password"; var domain = "tempuri.org"; WindowsImpersonationContext impersonationContext; // if impersonation fails - return if (!ImpersonateValidUser(username, password, domain, out impersonationContext)) { throw new AuthenticationException("Impersonation failed"); } PerformanceCounterCategory.Delete(PerfCategory); UndoImpersonation(impersonationContext); ... private static bool ImpersonateValidUser(string username, string password, string domain, out WindowsImpersonationContext impersonationContext) { const int LOGON32_LOGON_INTERACTIVE = 2; const int LOGON32_PROVIDER_DEFAULT = 0; WindowsIdentity tempWindowsIdentity; var token = IntPtr.Zero; var tokenDuplicate = IntPtr.Zero; if (RevertToSelf()) { if (LogonUserA(username, domain, password, LOGON32_LOGON_INTERACTIVE, LOGON32_PROVIDER_DEFAULT, ref token) != 0) { if (DuplicateToken(token, 2, ref tokenDuplicate) != 0) { tempWindowsIdentity = new WindowsIdentity(tokenDuplicate); impersonationContext = tempWindowsIdentity.Impersonate(); if (impersonationContext != null) { CloseHandle(token); CloseHandle(tokenDuplicate); return true; } } } } if (token != IntPtr.Zero) CloseHandle(token); if (tokenDuplicate != IntPtr.Zero) CloseHandle(tokenDuplicate); impersonationContext = null; return false; } [DllImport("advapi32.dll")] public static extern int LogonUserA(String lpszUserName, String lpszDomain, String lpszPassword, int dwLogonType, int dwLogonProvider, ref IntPtr phToken); [DllImport("advapi32.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Auto, SetLastError = true)] public static extern int DuplicateToken(IntPtr hToken, int impersonationLevel, ref IntPtr hNewToken); [DllImport("advapi32.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Auto, SetLastError = true)] public static extern bool RevertToSelf(); [DllImport("kernel32.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Auto)] public static extern bool CloseHandle(IntPtr handle); The error is thrown when processing tries to execute the PerformanceCounterCategory.Delete command. • impersonation and BackgroundWorker

    - by Lucian D
    Hello guys, I have a little bit of a problem when trying to use the BackgroundWorker class with impersonation. Following the answers from google, I got this code to impersonate public class MyImpersonation{ WindowsImpersonationContext impersonationContext; [DllImport("advapi32.dll")] public static extern int LogonUserA(String lpszUserName, String lpszDomain, String lpszPassword, int dwLogonType, int dwLogonProvider, ref IntPtr phToken); [DllImport("advapi32.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Auto, SetLastError = true)] public static extern int DuplicateToken(IntPtr hToken, int impersonationLevel, ref IntPtr hNewToken); [DllImport("advapi32.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Auto, SetLastError = true)] public static extern bool RevertToSelf(); [DllImport("kernel32.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Auto)] public static extern bool CloseHandle(IntPtr handle); public bool impersonateValidUser(String userName, String domain, String password) { WindowsIdentity tempWindowsIdentity; IntPtr token = IntPtr.Zero; IntPtr tokenDuplicate = IntPtr.Zero; if (RevertToSelf()) { if (LogonUserA(userName, domain, password, LOGON32_LOGON_INTERACTIVE, LOGON32_PROVIDER_DEFAULT, ref token) != 0) { if (DuplicateToken(token, 2, ref tokenDuplicate) != 0) { tempWindowsIdentity = new WindowsIdentity(tokenDuplicate); impersonationContext = tempWindowsIdentity.Impersonate(); if (impersonationContext != null) { CloseHandle(token); CloseHandle(tokenDuplicate); return true; } } } } if (token != IntPtr.Zero) CloseHandle(token); if (tokenDuplicate != IntPtr.Zero) CloseHandle(tokenDuplicate); return false; } } It worked really well until I've used it with the BackgroundWorker class. In this case, I've added a impersonation in the the code that runs asynchronously. I have no errors, but the issue I'm having is that the impersonation does not work when it is used in the async method. In code this looks something like this: instantiate a BGWorker, and add an event handler to the DoWork event: _bgWorker = new BackgroundWorker(); _bgWorker.DoWork += new DoWorkEventHandler(_bgWorker_DoWork); in the above handler, a impersonation is made before running some code. private void _bgWorker_DoWork(object sender, DoWorkEventArgs e) { MyImpersonation myImpersonation = new MyImpersonation(); myImpersonation.impersonateValidUser(user, domain, pass) //run some code... myImpersonation.undoImpersonation(); } the code is launched with BGWorker.RunWorkerAsync(); As I said before, no error is thrown, only that the code acts as if I did't run any impersonation, that is with it's default credentials. Moreover, the impersonation method returns true, so the impersonation took place at a certain level, but probably not on the current thread. This must happen because the async code runs on another thread, so there must be something that needs to be added to the MyImpersonation class. But what?? :) Thanks in advance, Lucian

  • OpenCV 2.4.2 on Matlab 2012b (Windows 7)

    - by Maik Xhani
    Hello i am trying to use OpenCV 2.4.2 in Matlab 2012b. I have tried those actions: downloaded OpenCV 2.4.2 used CMake on opencv folder using Visual Studio 10 and Visual Studio 10 Win64 compiler built Debug and Release version with Visual Studio first without any other option and then with D_SCL_SECURE=1 specified for every project changed Matlab's mexopts.bat and adding new lines refering to library and include (see bottom for mexopts.bat content) with Visual Studio 10 compiler tried to compile a simple file with a OpenCV library inclusion and all goes well. try to compile something that actually uses OpenCV commands and get errors. I used openmexopencv library and when tried to compile something i get this error cv.make mex -largeArrayDims -D_SECURE_SCL=1 -Iinclude -I"C:\OpenCV\build\include" -L"C:\OpenCV\build\x64\vc10\lib" -lopencv_calib3d242 -lopencv_contrib242 -lopencv_core242 -lopencv_features2d242 -lopencv_flann242 -lopencv_gpu242 -lopencv_haartraining_engine -lopencv_highgui242 -lopencv_imgproc242 -lopencv_legacy242 -lopencv_ml242 -lopencv_nonfree242 -lopencv_objdetect242 -lopencv_photo242 -lopencv_stitching242 -lopencv_ts242 -lopencv_video242 -lopencv_videostab242 src+cv\CamShift.cpp lib\MxArray.obj -output +cv\CamShift CamShift.cpp C:\Program Files\MATLAB\R2012b\extern\include\tmwtypes.h(821) : warning C4091: 'typedef ': ignorato a sinistra di 'wchar_t' quando non si dichiara alcuna variabile c:\program files\matlab\r2012b\extern\include\matrix.h(319) : error C4430: identificatore di tipo mancante, verr… utilizzato int. • mciSendString cannot save to directory path

    - by robUK
    Hello, VS C# 2008 SP1 I have a created a small application that records and plays audio. However, my application needs to save the wave file to the application data directory on the users computer. The mciSendString takes a C style string as a parameter and has to be in 8.3 format. However, my problem is I can't get it to save. And what is strange is sometime it does and sometimes it doesn't. Howver, most of the time is failes. However, if I save directly to the C drive it works first time everything. I have used 3 different methods that I have coded below. The error number that I get when it fails is 286."The file was not saved. Make sure your system has sufficient disk space or has an intact network connection" Many thanks for any suggestins, [DllImport("winmm.dll",CharSet=CharSet.Auto)] private static extern uint mciSendString([MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.LPTStr)] string command, StringBuilder returnValue, int returnLength, IntPtr winHandle); [DllImport("winmm.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Auto)] private static extern int mciGetErrorString(uint errorCode, StringBuilder errorText, int errorTextSize); [DllImport("Kernel32.dll", CharSet=CharSet.Auto)] private static extern int GetShortPathName([MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.LPTStr)] string longPath, [MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.LPTStr)] StringBuilder shortPath, int length); // Stop recording private void StopRecording() { // Save recorded voice string shortPath = this.shortPathName(); string formatShortPath = string.Format("save recsound \"{0}\"", shortPath); uint result = 0; StringBuilder errorTest = new StringBuilder(256); // C:\DOCUME~1\Steve\APPLIC~1\Test.wav // Fails result = mciSendString(string.Format("{0}", formatShortPath), null, 0, IntPtr.Zero); mciGetErrorString(result, errorTest, errorTest.Length); // command line convention - fails result = mciSendString("save recsound \"C:\\DOCUME~1\\Steve\\APPLIC~1\\Test.wav\"", null, 0, IntPtr.Zero); mciGetErrorString(result, errorTest, errorTest.Length); // 8.3 short format - fails result = mciSendString(@"save recsound C:\DOCUME~1\Steve\APPLIC~1\Test.wav", null, 0, IntPtr.Zero); mciGetErrorString(result, errorTest, errorTest.Length); // Save to C drive works everytime. result = mciSendString(@"save recsound C:\Test.wav", null, 0, IntPtr.Zero); mciGetErrorString(result, errorTest, errorTest.Length); mciSendString("close recsound ", null, 0, IntPtr.Zero); } // Get the short path name so that the mciSendString can save the recorded wave file private string shortPathName() { string shortPath = string.Empty; long length = 0; StringBuilder buffer = new StringBuilder(256); // Get the length of the path length = GetShortPathName(this.saveRecordingPath, buffer, 256); shortPath = buffer.ToString(); return shortPath; }

  • Capture Highlighted Text from any window using C#

    - by dineshrekula
    How to read the highlighted/Selected Text from any window using c#. i tried 2 approaches. Send "^c" whenever user selects some thing. But in this case my clipboard is flooded with lots of unnecessary data. Sometime it copied passwords also. so i switched my approach to 2nd method, send message method. see this sample code [DllImport("user32.dll")] static extern int GetFocus(); [DllImport("user32.dll")] static extern bool AttachThreadInput(uint idAttach, uint idAttachTo, bool fAttach); [DllImport("kernel32.dll")] static extern uint GetCurrentThreadId(); [DllImport("user32.dll")] static extern uint GetWindowThreadProcessId(int hWnd, int ProcessId); [DllImport("user32.dll") ] static extern int GetForegroundWindow(); [DllImport("user32.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Auto, SetLastError = false)] static extern int SendMessage(int hWnd, int Msg, int wParam, StringBuilder lParam); // second overload of SendMessage [DllImport("user32.dll")] private static extern int SendMessage(IntPtr hWnd, uint Msg, out int wParam, out int lParam); const int WM_SETTEXT = 12; const int WM_GETTEXT = 13; private string PerformCopy() { try { //Wait 5 seconds to give us a chance to give focus to some edit window, //notepad for example System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(5000); StringBuilder builder = new StringBuilder(500); int foregroundWindowHandle = GetForegroundWindow(); uint remoteThreadId = GetWindowThreadProcessId(foregroundWindowHandle, 0); uint currentThreadId = GetCurrentThreadId(); //AttachTrheadInput is needed so we can get the handle of a focused window in another app AttachThreadInput(remoteThreadId, currentThreadId, true); //Get the handle of a focused window int focused = GetFocus(); //Now detach since we got the focused handle AttachThreadInput(remoteThreadId, currentThreadId, false); //Get the text from the active window into the stringbuilder SendMessage(focused, WM_GETTEXT, builder.Capacity, builder); return builder.ToString(); } catch (System.Exception oException) { throw oException; } } this code working fine in Notepad. But if i try to capture from another applications like Mozilla firefox, or Visual Studio IDE, it's not returning the text. Can anybody please help me, where i am doing wrong? First of all, i have chosen the right approach?

  • Visual Studio Express 2012 debug mode doesn't work

    - by user2350086
    I have a project in Visual Studio that I have been working on for a while, and I have used the debugger extensively. Recently I changed some settings and I have lost the ability to stop the program and step through code. I can't figure out what I had changed that might have affected this. If I put a breakpoint in my code and try to have the program stop there, it doesn't. The break point shows up white with a red outline. If I hover the mouse over it, it says "The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No executable code of the debugger's target code type is associated with this line. Possible causes include: conditional compilation, compiler optimizations, or the target architecture of this line is not supported by the current debugger code type." I know for a fact that the program executes the code where the breakpoint is because I put the breakpoint in the beginning of the InitializeComponent method. The program displays the window fine, but does not stop at the breakpoint. Yes, I am running in debug mode. It seems as though there is a disconnect between the compiled code and the source code displayed. Does anyone know what that would be, or know which compiler settings I should check to re-enable debugging? • Can output from OutputDebugString be viewed in VisualStudio's output window

    - by wageoghe
    I am using C# and VS2010. When I use OutputDebugString to write debug information, should it show up in the output window? I can see the output from OutputDebugString in DebugView, but I thought I would see it in Visual Studio's Output window. I have looked under Tools-Options-Debugging-General and the output is NOT being redirected to the Immediate window. I have also looked under Tools-Options-Debugging-Output Window and all General Output Settings are set to "On". Finally, I have used the drop-down list in the Output window to specify that Debug messages should appear. If I change Tools-Options-Debugging-General to redirect the output to the Immediate window, the OutputDebugString messages do not appear in the immediate window. Here is my entire test program: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using System.Runtime.InteropServices; using System.Diagnostics; namespace OutputDebugString { class Program { [DllImport("kernel32.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Auto)] public static extern void OutputDebugString(string message); static void Main(string[] args) { Console.WriteLine("Main - Enter - Console.WriteLine"); Debug.WriteLine("Main - Enter - Debug.WriteLine"); OutputDebugString("Main - Enter - OutputDebugString"); OutputDebugString("Main - Exit - OutputDebugString"); Debug.WriteLine("Main - Exit - Debug.WriteLine"); Console.WriteLine("Main - Exit - Console.WriteLine"); } } } If I run within the debugger, the Debug.WriteLine output does show up in the output window, but the OutputDebugString output does not. If I run from a console window, both Debug.WriteLine and OutputDebugString show up in DebugView. Why doesn't the OutputDebugString output ever show up in the output window? Ultimately, my intent is not to write a lot of debug output with OutputDebugString, rather I will use System.Diagnostics or NLog or something similar. I am just trying to find out, if I configure a logging platform to write to OutputDebugString, will the output be visible from within the debugger. Edit: I went back to my original program (not the simple test above) which uses TraceSources and TraceListeners configured via the app.config file. If I configure the trace sources to write to the System.Diagnostics.DefaultTraceListener (which is documented as writing to OutputDebugString), then the trace source output DOES go to the debug window. However, lines that write directly with OutputDebugString (such as in my simple example) DO NOT go to the debug window. Also, if I use a different TraceListener that writes to OutputDebugString (I got one from Ukadc.Diagnostics at codeplex), that output DOES NOT go to the debug window. Note that I have seen these questions but they did not provide a working solution: here and here

  • Calling 32 bit unmanaged dlls from C# randomly failing

    - by Bert
    Hi, I'm having an issue when calling 32 bit delphi dll's from c# web site. The code generally runs fine, but occasionally I get an error Unable to load DLL '': The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E). This issue persists until I recycle the app pool for the site, and then it works fine again. On the same server, there is also a web service that is calling the same set of dlls. This web service doesn't seem to have the same issue that the web site has. Both applications are using .net framework 3.5, separate app pools on IIS. Here is the code I'm using to wrap the dlls: public sealed class Mapper { static Mapper instance = null; [DllImport("kernel32.dll")] private static extern bool SetDllDirectory(string lpPathName); private Mapper() { SetDllDirectory(ConfigManager.Path); } public static Mapper Instance { get { if (instance == null) { instance = new Mapper(); } return instance; } } public int Foo(string bar, ref double val) { return Loader.Foo(bar, ref val); } } public static class Loader { [DllImport("some.dll", CallingConvention = CallingConvention.StdCall, CharSet = CharSet.Unicode, EntryPoint = "foo")] public static extern int Foo(string bar, ref double val); } Then I call it like this: double val = 0.0; Mapper.Instance.Foo("bar", ref val); Any ideas as to why it would "randomly" Unable to load DLL '': The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E). The other problem is that I haven't been able to replicate the issue in the development environment. I thought that due to 2 applications calling the same dlls, that there could be some locks occurring. To replicate this, I created an app that spawned multiple threads and repeatedly called the 32bit dlls, and then used the web site to call these same dlls. I still couldn't replicate the issue. Some possible fixes that I can think of: Wrap the 32 bit dlls in web service (because the webservice doesn't seem to suffer from the same problem). But this may be worthless if it turns out that the web service also fails. Set up state server for the session state and periodically recycle the app pool for the site.This isn't fixing the problem, only avoiding it. Wrap the dll's in exe, and call that exe. Then I shouldn't get the same issue. But this also seems like a hacky solution. Implement the mapper class differently ? But how else should I be doing the call? The other draw back is that other applications are using this mapper, so I'd need to change there code too. Thanks

  • Access violation when running native C++ application that uses a /clr built DLL

    - by doobop
    I'm reorganzing a legacy mixed (managed and unmanaged DLLs) application so that the main application segment is unmanaged MFC and that will call a C++ DLL compiled with /clr flag that will bridge the communication between the managed (C# DLLs) and unmanaged code. Unfortuantely, my changed have resulted in an Access violation that occurs before the application InitInstance() is called. This makes it very difficult to debug. The only information I get is the following stack trace. > 64006108() ntdll.dll!_ZwCreateMutant@16() + 0xc bytes kernel32.dll!_CreateMutexW@12() + 0x7a bytes So, here are some sceanrios I've tried. - Turned on Exceptions-Win32 Exceptions-c0000005 Access Violation to break when Thrown. Still the most detail I get is from the above stack trace. I've tried the application with F10, but it fails before any breakpoints are hit and fails with the above stack trace. - I've stubbed out the bridge DLL so that it only has one method that returns a bool and that method is coded to just return false (no C# code called). bool DllPassthrough::IsFailed() { return false; } If the stubbed out DLL is compiled with the /clr flag, the application fails. If it is compiled without the /clr flag, the application runs. - I've created a stub MFC application using the Visual Studio wizard for multidocument applications and call DllPassthrough::IsFailed(). This succeeds even with the /clr flag used to compile the DLL. - I've tried doing a manual LoadLibrary on winmm.lib as outlined in the following note Access violation when using c++/cli. The application still fails. So, my questions are how to solve the problem? Any hints, strategies, or previous incidents. And, failing that, how can I get more information on what code segment or library is causing the access exception? If I try more involved workarounds like doing LoadLibrary calls, I'd like to narrow it to the failing libraries. Thanks. BTW, we are using Visual Studio 2008 and the project is being built against the .NET 2.0 framework for the managed sections.
