  Using XNA 4.0, I am currently playing songs from the user's PC/XBox360 using the following: Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Media.MediaPlayer.Play(Song song); I see that MediaPlayer has a static Property PlayPosition that, as I've researched, used to be a get/set property, but it has been updated to get-only. Are there any other methods/tricks I can use to explicitly set the playing position of a currently playing song?

  I'm storing a huge set of songs in a MySQL database. I don't want to keep adding fields to the 'songs' table for this. How can I store song related data a more efficient way? What's the best practice here?

• Broken Multithreading With Core Data

  This is a better-focused version of an earlier question that touches upon an entirely different subject from before. I am working on a Cocoa Core Data application with multiple threads. There is a Song and Artist; every Song has an Artist relation. There is a delegate code file not cited here; it more or less looks like the template XCode generates. I am far better working with the former technology than the latter, and any multithreading capability came from a Core Data template. When I'm doing all my ManagedObjectContext work in one method, I am fine. When I put fetch-or-insert-then-return-object work into a separate method, the application halts (but does not crash) at the new method's return statement, seen below. The new method even gets its own MOC to be safe, and it has not helped any. The result is one addition to Song and a halt after generating an Artist. I get no errors or exceptions, and I don't know why. I've debugged out the wazoo. My theory is that any errors occurring are in another thread, and the one I'm watching is waiting on something forever. What did I do wrong with getArtistObject: , and how can I fix it?   Let's say we have def Foo(Bar=0,Song=0): print(Bar) print(Song) And I want to assign any one of the two parameters in the function with the variable sing and SongVal: Sing = Song SongVal = 2 So that it can be run like: Foo(Sing=SongVal) Where Sing would assign the Song parameter to the SongVal which is 2. The result should be printed like so: 0 2 So should I rewrite my function or is it possible to do it the way I want to? (With the code above you get an error saying Foo has no parameter Sing.   Hi, I can't wrap my brain around this one so I hope someone can help. I have a song track that has the song length in milliseconds. I also have the date the song played in DATETIME format. What I am trying to do is find out how many milliseconds is left in the song play time. Example $tracktime = 219238; $dateplayed = '2011-01-17 11:01:44'; $starttime = strtotime($dateplayed); I am using the following to determine time left but it does not seem correct. $curtime = time(); $timeleft = $starttime+round($tracktime/1000)-$curtime; Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Songbird looping my library playlist

  I'm using Songbird (on Windows) as my iTunes replacement. There's two things that annoy me about Songbird: 1) It has a web browser built in. I can ignore this as I don't use it. But, seriously, a web browser? :/ 2) It loops my library. This, I don't like. The way I play my audio is by launching Windows Explorer, navigating to my media library and double clicking on a single MP3. I only want to hear that one MP3. I don't use the Media Import function in Songbird - Or any other media player. But it insists on adding every song I play to the Library. Disabling this would be excellent but, falling short of that, I'd at least like to stop it repeating every song in the library. When Songbird finishes playing the last song in the Library (which is the song I just opened via Windows Explorer (gets appended to the library)), it jumps to the top of the library and starts playing all the songs again. How can I stop this? Songbird is set to 'Repeat none'

• Shuffling in windows media player

  I think media player has several issues indeed. You see, I'll be hearing songs most of the time using WMP 11 (in WinXP SP3). Today - While I was wasting my time poking some sleepy questions in SE, I also noticed this... My "Now-playing" list contains some 500 mp3s (doesn't matter). I've enabled both Shuffle and Repeat. I play those songs. When I get irritated with some song (say - the 10th song), I change it. Something mysterious happened (happens even now). A sequence of atleast 3 songs (already played before the 10th song) repeat again in the same way following the selected one... Then, I skip those somehow and arrive at another boring song (say now - 20th) and now, the sequence would've increased by about 5 songs (sometimes)... Sometimes, I even notice a specific "sequence of songs" (including the skipped one) repeating again & again. I doubt most guys would've noticed. This makes me ask a question - Why? There are a lot songs in my playlist. Why the same sets of songs? Does WMP really chooses a sequence at start and follows it. Once a change is encountered, it starts the sequence again after several songs. Is it so? Feel free to shoot it down. I don't know whether it's acceptable here. Just curious about it... Note: This is only observed when both shuffle and repeat are enabled. To confirm, I tried it in two other PCs of mine (thereby dumped 2 hours). BTW, I also didn't observe this magic in VLC, Winamp, K-Lite and not even my Nokia cellphone. I think I'm not a good Googler and so, I can't find any such issues :-)

  Are you looking for a nice way to create and display a slide show from your photo collection? Today we’ll show you how to create a slide show, how to add music to it, and watch it from the comfort of your couch in Windows 7 Media Center. Create Slide Show Launch Windows 7 Media Center and click on the Picture Library tile found under Pictures and Videos.   In the Pictures Library, scroll across to slide shows and click on Create Slide show.   Enter a name for the slide show and click Next.   If you are using a Windows Media Center remote, click on the OK button to bring up the onscreen keyboard. Use the directional buttons to navigate across the keyboard and press OK to select each letter. Click Done when finished. Select Picture Library and click Next. Select the pictures to include in your slide show. If using a remote, navigate through the images and press OK to select. If you are using a mouse, simply click on the selections. When you are finished, click Next.    Now, we can review and edit the slide show. Click the up or down pointing arrows to move pictures up and down in the order.  (more intuitive titles would be helpful in this case as opposed to the randomly generated titles in the example below) If you are finished, click Create. You can also choose to go back and add music to your slide show. (or even more pictures) We’ll take a look at adding some music in our example. Click on the Add More button.   Add Music to Your Slide Show Here we’ll select Music Library to add a song. Click Next.   You’ll now be able to browse your Music Library to select songs for your slide show. Select your songs and click Next.   When you are finished adding Music and Pictures click Create.   Once your slide show is saved, you can play it any time by going to clicking on slide shows in the Picture Library, then selecting the slide show title. Select play slide show when you’re ready to enjoy your new production.   If you ever want to edit or delete the slide show, select it in the Picture Library, and scroll to Actions. You’ll see those option under additional commands. You have the option to Edit Slide Show, Burn a CD/DVD, or Delete. Editing Slide Show Settings Within Media Center, go to Tasks… Click on Pictures…   Then choose Slide Shows. From the Slide Show settings you have the option to Show pictures in random order, Show picture information, Show song information, and Use Pan and zoom effect. You can also adjust the length of time to display each picture, and change the background color. Be sure to click Save to apply and changes before exiting. If you choose to show picture information, the picture title, date, and star rating will be displayed in the top right.   If your slide show is accompanied by music and you choose to show song information, you will get a translucent overlay for a few seconds at the beginning of each song to indicate the song, album, and artist. So when i try to access /category-1256-Product-page-example.html gives me a loop error message. I think another redirect rules are making the loop but dunno how to fix it because are just this urls rewrite rules that don't work with the above rewrite. • Why does iTunes make 2 copies of my music when adding to library?

  I set iTunes to "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" and to "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" because I prefer to keep my music consolidated, organized, and consistent. However, when I have MP3s that are external to iTunes, then try to add via File Add Folder to Libary, iTunes creates 2 copies of the file in the iTunes folder - one with the original song name and another with the original song name followed by the number 1. Here is what I thought would happen, and I hope is possible: 1) Click File Add Folder to Library 2) Select folder external to iTunes 3) Click OK 4) iTunes creates a clean new folder in the iTunes Music directory with exactly 1 of each file 5) Only 1 of each song is shown within iTunes Is this too much to ask? I am not an iTunes fan at all after 2 years dealing with the poor programming of this application. I hope someone can help me find the faith...

  Been searching for quite some time for a player that will cross fade correctly. What I mean by that, most players have the ability to start fading with a given time left of the song (ex:10 secs) While at times that can be fine, but is there software or a plugin for software that can tell the difference between a song that fades out, or a song that has a cold ending? So far the best one out there that I have tested is PCDJ, but I am sure there has to be something that can distinguish between endings of songs. Should add...this is for windows. • Extracting metadata from flac header in linux

  Hello. I recently (and accidentally) wiped a hard-drive which should NOT have been formatted. Thankfully, PhotoRec was able to recover some of the most important files from the disk. Part of those files include a large music collection of flac files. I've placed these in a folder named 'FLAC' that looks like this: [Start of FLAC Folder] f11655088.flac f11698672.flac ... (around 2,000 files total) f291142600.flac [End of FLAC Folder] I'm running a livecd to rescue this data. I have access to a standard terminal in Ubuntu 10.10. I've noticed that the music player in linux will display the song title when I open any of these songs. My goal is to automatically extract the song title from these files and update their names from f12313512.flac to 'Libera - Rebirth.flac' - or whatever the song title happens to be. Thanks in advance for suggestions on how I might accomplish this!
