  • iPhone: Run method from another view

    - by Nic Hubbard
    I have two views that I am loading, the first is a view with an MKMapView, the second has a table view. I would like to access a method in the first views controller, from the second view. I have been told to use the delegate for this, but I can't get it right. In my app delegate, I have set up added properties for the class of my first view. Then, in my second view, I try to access the first view using the delegate: MyAppDelegate *mainDelegate = (MyAppDelegate*) [[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; Then try: [mainDelegate.mapViewControllerClass myMethodToRun]; It seems to me that it should be calling the myMethodToRun method, which is in my map view. But, it does not work. What is wrong with what I am doing here? There must be a way to access a method of another view...

  • How to email CLLocationCoordinate2D as a link

    - by lucasweb
    I am trying to emulate the Maps 'Share Location' via email functionality. I have the latitude and longitude of my location and am currently using it to display the location on a map via MKMapView. I also have functionality that composes an email from the app and I would like to include the location in it but can not figure out how to construct a link, using the longitude and latitude. I have seen other apps with apps with this functionality so I know it is possible. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • How to find which annotation send showDetails?

    How to find which annotation send showDetails? MKPinAnnotationView* customPinView = [[[MKPinAnnotationView alloc] initWithAnnotation:annotation reuseIdentifier:BridgeAnnotationIdentifier] autorelease]; customPinView.pinColor = MKPinAnnotationColorPurple; customPinView.animatesDrop = YES; customPinView.canShowCallout = YES; // add a detail disclosure button to the callout which will open a new view controller page // // note: you can assign a specific call out accessory view, or as MKMapViewDelegate you can implement: // - (void)mapView:(MKMapView *)mapView annotationView:(MKAnnotationView *)view calloutAccessoryControlTapped:(UIControl *)control; // UIButton* rightButton = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeDetailDisclosure]; [rightButton addTarget:self action:@selector(showDetails:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; customPinView.rightCalloutAccessoryView = rightButton; return customPinView; - (void)showDetails:(id)sender { some code }

  • Not found in protocol

    - by Alex
    I've subclassed MKAnnotation so that i can assign objects to annotations and then assign this object to a view controller like so: - (void)mapView:(MKMapView *)mapView annotationView:(MKAnnotationView *)view calloutAccessoryControlTapped:(UIControl *)control { PlaceDetailView *detailView = [[PlaceDetailView alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewStyleGrouped]; detailView.place = [view.annotation place]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:detailView animated:YES]; [detailView release]; } This is working great but i'm having the following issues: If i try and access the place getter method like so view.annotation.place i recieve an error: Accessing unknown place getter method If i acces the place getter method like so [view.annotation place] i receive a warning: place not found in protocol From my understanding this is because the place object is not defined in the MKAnnotation protocol, although i'm aware of this i'm not sure how to tell the complier that place does exist and it's not calling it blind.

  • Customized annotation problem

    - by user128647
    I want my custom UIView (.Xib View) to appear when user tabs on pins (not apple's callOutBubble) and in that UIView there should be a button which fires an IBAction on touched down event. Therefore I have added an AddObserver method to MKAnnotationView. which responds to touch events over pin in MKMapView. I have also added 3 buttons over that XIB view, which have also assigned IBActions. But when I run my application, buttons in the customized annotation view are not responding to IBAction (Touch Down). Why does this happen, and how can I fix it? I need to call a method when those 3 buttons are tabbed.

  • Removing and then adding MKAnnotations to a MapView is leaving me with a blank MapView

    - by Chris McCall
    A followup to this quesiton: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2944581/forcing-reload-of-view-when-returning-from-flipsideview-of-utility-application When returning from the flipside view, I'm calling NSArray *annotations = [NSArray arrayWithArray:[mapView annotations]]; [mapView removeAnnotations:annotations]; To remove all the pins from the map (let me know if this isn't the best way to do this). Then: for(Hole *hole in fetchedObjects) { double latitude = [hole.Latitude doubleValue]; cord.latitude = latitude; double longitude = [hole.Longitude doubleValue]; cord.longitude = longitude; WellPlaceMark *placemark = [[WellPlaceMark alloc] initWithCoordinate:cord withWellType:[NSString stringWithString: hole.WellType]]; [mapView addAnnotation:placemark]; } Plus: - (MKAnnotationView *) mapView:(MKMapView *)mapView viewForAnnotation:(id <MKAnnotation>) annotation{ MKPinAnnotationView *annView=[[MKPinAnnotationView alloc] initWithAnnotation:annotation reuseIdentifier:@"currentloc"]; if ([annotation isKindOfClass:[MKUserLocation class]]) return nil; if([annotation isKindOfClass:[WellPlaceMark class]]) { ... } annView.animatesDrop=FALSE; return annView; } All of this code seems to be called in the debugger, but when it's finished, I'm presented with a blank map. I've tried zooming out and the pins are nowhere. The map loads up fine on the first try, but once I call removeAnnotations, they never return.

  • Pin animatesDrop mapView-iOS

    I have implemented code as seen below. I would like to add animation with dropping effect. However, once I type pinView.animatesDrop does not recognize! I could not able to figure out what I am doing wrong? - (MKAnnotationView *)mapView:(MKMapView *)mV viewForAnnotation:(id <MKAnnotation>)annotation { MKAnnotationView *pinView=nil; if(![annotation isKindOfClass:[Annotation class]]) // Don't mess user location return nil; static NSString *defaultPinID = @"StandardIdentifier"; pinView = (MKAnnotationView *)[self.mapView dequeueReusableAnnotationViewWithIdentifier:defaultPinID]; if (pinView == nil){ pinView = [[MKAnnotationView alloc] initWithAnnotation:annotation reuseIdentifier:defaultPinID]; } // Build our annotation if ([annotation isKindOfClass:[Annotation class]]) { Annotation *a = (Annotation *)annotation; pinView.image = [ZSPinAnnotation pinAnnotationWithColor:a.color];// ZSPinAnnotation Being Used pinView.annotation = a; pinView.enabled = YES; pinView.centerOffset=CGPointMake(6.5,-16); pinView.calloutOffset = CGPointMake(-11,0); //pinView.animatesDrop = YES; } pinView.canShowCallout = YES; UIButton *rightButton = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeDetailDisclosure]; [rightButton setTitle:annotation.title forState:UIControlStateNormal]; [pinView setRightCalloutAccessoryView:rightButton]; pinView.leftCalloutAccessoryView = [[UIView alloc] init]; pinView.leftCalloutAccessoryView=nil; /*UIButton *leftButton = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeInfoLight]; [leftButton setTitle:annotation.title forState:UIControlStateNormal]; [pinView setLeftCalloutAccessoryView:leftButton];*/ return pinView; }

  • my MKAnnotationVIew is not showing the title

    - by hydev
    Hi, I am new to iPhone programming and I can't understand why the MKAnnotationView is not showing the title's of my annotation's. Below is the code that is used to display it on the map. - (void)mapView:(MKMapView *)mv didAddAnnotationViews:(NSArray *)views { NSLog(@"Entered didAddAnnotationViews"); MKAnnotationView *annotationView = [views objectAtIndex:0]; id <MKAnnotation> mp = [annotationView annotation]; MKCoordinateRegion region = MKCoordinateRegionMakeWithDistance([mp coordinate], 250, 250); [mv setRegion:region animated:YES]; } Here is where I am defining my annotations: MapPoint *mp = [[MapPoint alloc] initWithCoordinate:[newLocation coordinate] title:[locationTitleField text]]; [mapView addAnnotation:mp]; [mp release]; mp is a class I have created to keep track of all the map points: #import "MapPoint.h" @implementation MapPoint @synthesize coordinate, title; - (id)initWithCoordinate:(CLLocationCoordinate2D)c title:(NSString *)t { [super init]; coordinate = c; [self setTitle:t]; return self; } - (void)dealloc { [title release]; [super dealloc]; } @end I am beginner so go easy, and all help greatly appreciated. • UIView Controller mysteriously getting deallocated

    - by Dan Ray
    I have a UINavigation scheme with a "welcome" page, a middle page, and a detail page. In the middle page, there's a segmented controller that can swap the main body of that page between a table, a calendar, and a MKMapView, each implemented with their own view controller classes. Today I implemented the MapView and its annotations and all of that. It's nice. And a detail disclosure on each callout takes you to the detail page just the same way as if you'd gotten there via the table. Lovely. I also have a right-button-bar button that pushes in a "search" view. From there you can search the data I'm navigating. When it's done filtering the data (an array of objects I'm keeping in a data singleton), it makes the table reload its data, and calls my annotation-clearer-and-builder methods on the map view, and then pops itself out, so the "middle" page (including whatever view was in the guts of it) is back on the screen. Problem is, if I go back and forth between the map and the search a couple times, any mention of the table view causes us to crash with: *** -[CALayer retain]: message sent to deallocated instance 0x710b810. (I obviously have NSZombies turned on.) I put an NSLog in the dealloc method of my table view controller. That thing's never getting called. I don't know if we're ditching it behind the scenes for memory purposes, or if I'm leaking it and can't get my hands back on it, or what. I'm sort of at a loss about where to look. Any hints?

  • Can't access annotation property of subclassed uibutton

    - by Tzur Gazit
    I have a mapView to which I add annotations. The pin's callout have a button (rightCalloutAccessoryView). In order to be able to display various information when the button is pushed, i've subclassed uibutton and added a class called "Annotation". @interface CustomButton : UIButton { NSIndexPath *indexPath; Annotation *mAnnotation; } @property (nonatomic, retain) NSIndexPath *indexPath; @property (nonatomic, copy) Annotation *mAnnotation; - (id) setAnnotation2:(Annotation *)annotation; @end Here is "Annotation": @interface Annotation : NSObject <MKAnnotation> { CLLocationCoordinate2D coordinate; NSString *mPhotoID; NSString *mPhotoUrl; NSString *mPhotoName; NSString *mOwner; NSString *mAddress; } @property (nonatomic, assign) CLLocationCoordinate2D coordinate; @property (nonatomic, copy) NSString *mPhotoID; @property (nonatomic, copy) NSString *mPhotoUrl; @property (nonatomic, copy) NSString *mPhotoName; @property (nonatomic, copy) NSString *mOwner; @property (nonatomic, copy) NSString *mAddress; - (id) initWithCoordinates:(CLLocationCoordinate2D)coordinate; - (id) setPhotoId:(NSString *)id url:(NSString *)url owner:(NSString *)owner address:(NSString *)address andName:(NSString *)name; @end I want to set the annotation property of the uibutton at - (MKAnnotationView *)mapView:(MKMapView *)pMapView viewForAnnotation:(id )annotation, in order to refer to it at the button push handler (-(IBAction) showDetails:(id)sender). The problem is that I can't set the annotation property of the button. I get the following message at run time: 2010-04-27 08:15:11.781 HotLocations[487:207] *** -[UIButton setMAnnotation:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x5063400 2010-04-27 08:15:11.781 HotLocations[487:207] *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '*** -[UIButton setMAnnotation:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x5063400' 2010-04-27 08:15:11.781 HotLocations[487:207] Stack: ( 32080987, 2472563977, 32462907, 32032374, 31884994, 55885, 30695992, 30679095, 30662137, 30514190, 30553882, 30481385, 30479684, 30496027, 30588515, 63333386, 31865536, 31861832, 40171029, 40171226, 2846639 ) I appreciate the help. • iOS MapKit: Selected MKAnnotation coordinates.

    - by Oh Danny Boy
    Using the code at the following tutorial, http://www.zenbrains.com/blog/en/2010/05/detectar-cuando-se-selecciona-una-anotacion-mkannotation-en-mapa-mkmapview/, I was able to add an observer to each MKAnnotation and receive a notification of selected/deselected states. I am attempting to add a UIView on top of the selection annotation to display relevant information about the location. This information cannot be conveyed in the 2 lines allowed (Title/Subtitle) for the pin's callout. - (void)observeValueForKeyPath:(NSString *)keyPath ofObject:(id)object change:(NSDictionary *)change context:(void *)context { Annotation *a = (Annotation *)object; // Alternatively attempted using: //Annotation *a = (Annotation *)[mapView.selectedAnnotations objectAtIndex:0]; NSString *action = (NSString *)context; if ([action isEqualToString:ANNOTATION_SELECTED_DESELECTED]) { BOOL annotationSelected = [[change valueForKey:@"new"] boolValue]; if (annotationSelected) { // Actions when annotation selected CGPoint origin = a.frame.origin; NSLog(@"origin (%f, %f) ", origin.x, origin.y); // Test UIView *v = [[UIView alloc] init]; [v setBackgroundColor:[UIColor orangeColor]]; [v setFrame:CGRectMake(origin.x, origin.y , 300, 300)]; [self.view addSubview:v]; [v release]; }else { // Accions when annotation deselected } } } Results using Annotation *a = (Annotation *)object origin (154373.000000, 197135.000000) origin (154394.000000, 197152.000000) origin (154445.000000, 197011.000000) Results using Annotation *a = (Annotation *)[mapView.selectedAnnotations objectAtIndex:0]; origin (0.000000, 0.000000) origin (0.000000, 0.000000) origin (0.000000, 0.000000) The numbers are large. They are not relative to the view (1024 x 768). I believe they are relative to the entire map. How would I be able to detect the exact coordinates relative to the entire view so that I can appropriately position my view?

  • Can't unwrap Optional.None tableviewcell

    - by Mathew Padley
    I've a table view that has a custom table view cell in it. My problem is that when i try and assign a value to a variable in the custom table view cell I get the stated error. Now, I think its because the said variable is not initialised, but its got me completely stumped. This is the custom table cell: import Foundation import UIKit class LocationGeographyTableViewCell: UITableViewCell { //@IBOutlet var Map : MKMapView; @IBOutlet var AddressLine1 : UILabel; @IBOutlet var AddressLine2 : UILabel; @IBOutlet var County : UILabel; @IBOutlet var Postcode : UILabel; @IBOutlet var Telephone : UILabel; var location = VisitedLocation(); func Build(location:VisitedLocation) -> Void { self.location = location; AddressLine1.text = "test"; } } My cell for row at index path is: override func tableView(tableView: UITableView!, cellForRowAtIndexPath indexPath: NSIndexPath!) -> UITableViewCell! { var addressCell = tableView.dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier("ContactDetail") as? LocationGeographyTableViewCell; if !addressCell { addressCell = LocationGeographyTableViewCell(style: UITableViewCellStyle.Value1, reuseIdentifier: "ContactDetail"); } addressCell!.Build(Location); return addressCell; } As I say I'm completely baffled, the Build function calls the correct function in the tableviewcell. Any help will be gratefully appreciated. Ta

  • Monotouch auto resizing views in iphone

    - by Tim Bassett
    I have created a view in interface builder that contains another view (content area) and a button bar at the bottom. The hierarchy is as: ->View --->mapContainer UIView ----->map MKMapView ----->OverlayView UIView --->ToolBar UIToolBar I would like the mapContainer to resize to full window when the ToolBar is hidden. I would like the map and the OverlayView to resize to the mapContainer size I have attempted the following code, but it has no effect. Please advise? public override void ViewDidLoad () { base.ViewDidLoad (); this.mapContainer.AutosizesSubviews = true ; this.View.AutosizesSubviews = true ; try { this.mapContainer.AutoresizingMask = UIViewAutoresizing.FlexibleHeight | UIViewAutoresizing.FlexibleWidth ; this.map.AutoresizingMask = UIViewAutoresizing.FlexibleHeight | UIViewAutoresizing.FlexibleWidth ; this.map.SizeToFit(); this.mapContainer.SizeToFit(); this.map.SizeToFit(); this.View.Frame = new System.Drawing.RectangleF(0,0,this.View.Frame.Width, this.View.Frame.Height ); this.mapContainer.LayoutSubviews(); } catch(Exception ex) { Console.Write(ex.ToString()); } }

  • iPhone Objective C - error: pointer value used where a floating point value was expected

    I do not understand why i am getting this error. Here is the related code: Photo.h #import <CoreData/CoreData.h> @class Person; @interface Photo : NSManagedObject { } @property (nonatomic, retain) NSData * imageData; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSNumber * Latitude; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSString * ImageName; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSString * ImagePath; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSNumber * Longitude; @property (nonatomic, retain) Person * PhotoToPerson; @end Photo.m #import "Photo.h" #import "Person.h" @implementation Photo @dynamic imageData; @dynamic Latitude; @dynamic ImageName; @dynamic ImagePath; @dynamic Longitude; @dynamic PhotoToPerson; @end This is a mapViewController.m class i have created.   • annotationView didChangeDragState being fired multiple times

    - by RodH257
    I've got a draggable annotation in IOS4 mapkit, and I'm trying to call an event when the annotation is dragged to a new position. my code currently looks like: - (void)mapView:(MKMapView *)mapView annotationView:(MKAnnotationView *)annotationView didChangeDragState:(MKAnnotationViewDragState)newState fromOldState:(MKAnnotationViewDragState)oldState { if (newState == MKAnnotationViewDragStateEnding) { CLLocationCoordinate2D droppedAt = annotationView.annotation.coordinate; NSLog(@"dropped at %f,%f", droppedAt.latitude, droppedAt.longitude); //update the annotation //see if its an information annotation if ([annotationView.annotation isKindOfClass:[InfoAnnotation class]]) { NSLog(@"Info annotation updating.."); InfoAnnotation* userAnnotation = ((InfoAnnotation *)annotationView.annotation); [userAnnotation updateLocationWithServerForConvoy: self.title]; } } } the code simply logs the update and then tells the annotation to send its update to my server, which is a custom method. • Custom Annotation not showing all

    - by funatsg
    Okay, i have a number of pins on the mapkit. These pins showing different types of attractions. (E.g Parks, Farms and etc) I want to add custom images for these different types of pin. Parks have a park image and vice versa. However, when i added in, not all the images are showing successfully. For example, in parks, it should have 5 pins, but the image only came up in 2 pins, whereas other 3 is in default red pins. But if i used colours to differentiate them. For example, [pinsetPinColor:MKPinAnnotationColorGreen]; It works! Anyone knows what is the problem? Relevant codes below. Tell me if you need more. thanks! - (MKAnnotationView *)mapView:(MKMapView *)mapView viewForAnnotation:(id <MKAnnotation>)annotation{ if ([annotation isKindOfClass:MKUserLocation.class]) { //user location view is being requested, //return nil so it uses the default which is a blue dot... return nil; } //NSLog(@"View for Annotation is called"); MKPinAnnotationView *pin=[[MKPinAnnotationView alloc] initWithAnnotation:annotation reuseIdentifier:nil]; pin.userInteractionEnabled=TRUE; MapEvent* event = (MapEvent*)annotation; NSLog(@"thetype: %@", event.thetype); if ([event.thetype isEqualToString:@"adv"]) { //[pin setPinColor:MKPinAnnotationColorGreen]; pin.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"padv.png"]; } else if ([event.thetype isEqualToString:@"muse"]){ //[pin setPinColor:MKPinAnnotationColorPurple]; pin.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"pmuse.png"]; } else if ([event.thetype isEqualToString:@"nightlife"]){ pin.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"pnight.png"]; } else if ([event.thetype isEqualToString:@"parks"]){ pin.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"ppark.png"]; } else if ([event.thetype isEqualToString:@"farms"]){ pin.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"pfarm.png"]; } else { [pin setPinColor:MKPinAnnotationColorRed]; } pin.canShowCallout = YES; pin.animatesDrop = YES; UIButton *rightButton = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeDetailDisclosure]; [rightButton addTarget:self action:@selector(clickAnnotation:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; [rightButton setTitle:event.uniqueID forState:UIControlStateNormal]; pin.rightCalloutAccessoryView = rightButton; return pin; }

  • Can't access annotation property of subclassed uibutton - editted

    - by Tzur Gazit
    Below is my original question. I kept investigating and found out that the type of the button I allocate is of type UIButton instead of the subclassed type CustomButton. the capture below is the allocation of the button and connection to target. I break immediately after the allocation and check the button type (po rightButton at the debugger console). It's turned out tht the type is UIButton instead of CustomButton. CustomButton* rightButton = [CustomButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeDetailDisclosure]; [rightButton addTarget:self action:@selector(showDetails:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; I have a mapView to which I add annotations. The pin's callout have a button (rightCalloutAccessoryView). In order to be able to display various information when the button is pushed, i've subclassed uibutton and added a class called "Annotation". @interface CustomButton : UIButton { NSIndexPath *indexPath; Annotation *mAnnotation; } @property (nonatomic, retain) NSIndexPath *indexPath; @property (nonatomic, copy) Annotation *mAnnotation; - (id) setAnnotation2:(Annotation *)annotation; @end Here is "Annotation": @interface Annotation : NSObject <MKAnnotation> { CLLocationCoordinate2D coordinate; NSString *mPhotoID; NSString *mPhotoUrl; NSString *mPhotoName; NSString *mOwner; NSString *mAddress; } @property (nonatomic, assign) CLLocationCoordinate2D coordinate; @property (nonatomic, copy) NSString *mPhotoID; @property (nonatomic, copy) NSString *mPhotoUrl; @property (nonatomic, copy) NSString *mPhotoName; @property (nonatomic, copy) NSString *mOwner; @property (nonatomic, copy) NSString *mAddress; - (id) initWithCoordinates:(CLLocationCoordinate2D)coordinate; - (id) setPhotoId:(NSString *)id url:(NSString *)url owner:(NSString *)owner address:(NSString *)address andName:(NSString *)name; @end I want to set the annotation property of the uibutton at - (MKAnnotationView *)mapView:(MKMapView *)pMapView viewForAnnotation:(id )annotation, in order to refer to it at the button push handler (-(IBAction) showDetails:(id)sender). The problem is that I can't set the annotation property of the button. I get the following message at run time: 2010-04-27 08:15:11.781 HotLocations[487:207] *** -[UIButton setMAnnotation:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x5063400 2010-04-27 08:15:11.781 HotLocations[487:207] *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '*** -[UIButton setMAnnotation:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x5063400' 2010-04-27 08:15:11.781 HotLocations[487:207] Stack: ( 32080987, 2472563977, 32462907, 32032374, 31884994, 55885, 30695992, 30679095, 30662137, 30514190, 30553882, 30481385, 30479684, 30496027, 30588515, 63333386, 31865536, 31861832, 40171029, 40171226, 2846639 ) I appreciate the help. • CABasicAnimation not scrolling with rest of View

    - by morgman
    All, I'm working on reproducing the pulsing Blue circle effect that the map uses to show your own location... I layered a UIView over a MKMapView. The UIView contains the pulsing animation. I ended up using the following code gleaned from numerous answers here on stackoverflow: CABasicAnimation* pulseAnimation = [CABasicAnimation animationWithKeyPath:@"opacity"]; pulseAnimation.toValue = [NSNumber numberWithFloat: 0.0]; pulseAnimation.duration = 1.0; pulseAnimation.repeatCount = HUGE_VALF; pulseAnimation.autoreverses = YES; pulseAnimation.timingFunction = [CAMediaTimingFunction functionWithName:kCAMediaTimingFunctionEaseInEaseOut]; [self.layer addAnimation:pulseAnimation forKey:@"pulseAnimation"]; CABasicAnimation* resizeAnimation = [CABasicAnimation animationWithKeyPath:@"bounds.size"]; resizeAnimation.toValue = [NSValue valueWithCGSize:CGSizeMake(0.0f, 0.0f)]; resizeAnimation.fillMode = kCAFillModeBoth; resizeAnimation.duration = 1.0; resizeAnimation.repeatCount = HUGE_VALF; resizeAnimation.autoreverses = YES; resizeAnimation.timingFunction = [CAMediaTimingFunction functionWithName:kCAMediaTimingFunctionEaseInEaseOut]; [self.layer addAnimation:resizeAnimation forKey:@"resizeAnimation"]; This does an acceptable job of pulsing/fading a circle I drew in the UIView using: CGContextRef context = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(); CGContextSetRGBStrokeColor(context, 1.0, 0.0, 0.0, 0.4); // And draw with a blue fill color CGContextSetRGBFillColor(context, 1.0, 0.0, 0.0, 0.1); // Draw them with a 2.0 stroke width so they are a bit more visible. CGContextSetLineWidth(context, 2.0); CGContextAddEllipseInRect(context, CGRectMake(x-30, y-30, 60.0, 60.0)); CGContextDrawPath(context, kCGPathFillStroke); But I soon found that while this appears to work, as soon as I drag the underlying map to another position the animation screws up... While the position I want highlighted is centered on the screen the animation works ok, once I've dragged the position so it's no longer centered the animation now pulses starting at the center of the screen scaling up to center on the position dragged off center, and back again... A humorous and cool effect, but not what I was looking for. I realize I may have been lucky on several fronts. I'm not sure what I misunderstood. I think the animation is scaling the entire layer which just happens to have my circle drawn in the middle of it. So it works when centered but not when off center. I tried the following gleaned from one of the questions suggested by stackoverflow when I started this question: CABasicAnimation* translateAnimation = [CABasicAnimation animationWithKeyPath:@"position"]; translateAnimation.fromValue = [NSValue valueWithCGPoint:CGPointMake(oldx, oldy )]; translateAnimation.toValue = [NSValue valueWithCGPoint:CGPointMake(x, y )]; // translateAnimation.fillMode = kCAFillModeBoth; translateAnimation.duration = 1.0; translateAnimation.timingFunction = [CAMediaTimingFunction functionWithName:kCAMediaTimingFunctionEaseInEaseOut]; [self.layer addAnimation:translateAnimation forKey:@"translateAnimation"]; But it doesn't help much, when I play with it sometimes it looks like once time it animates in the correct spot after I've moved it offcenter, but then it switches back to the animating from the center point to the new location. Sooo, any suggestions or do I need to provide additional information.
