• XAML Multi-Level Binding Source/Path Issue

  So I have this issue I've been trying various ways to tackle all day and nothing's catching and working for it. Basically I have a XAML object called ChromeWindow (derived from Window) which has in it's code-behind a DependencyProperty called AppChrome which stores a reference to an associated ApplicationChrome XAML object (derived from UserControl). ApplicationChrome's XAML file has a few x:Name'd objects (a TextBlock and Border for instance) to which I want to bind to from the ChromeWindow's XAML. The root of the ChromeWindow is x:Name'd as 'rootWindow' in the XAML, so I figured one of these bindings would work: {Binding ElementName=rootWindow, Path=AppChrome.CaptionTextBlock.Text, Mode=OneWay} But that complains of a BindingExpression path error such that the property 'CaptionTextBlock' (an x:Name'd TextBlock in AppChrome's XAML) cannot be found on object of type ApplicationChrome So I tried this binding intead: {Binding Source=AppChrome.CaptionTextBlock, Path=Text, Mode=OneWay} And still no luck, this time complaints of a BindingExpression path error again, but this time that it cannot find the 'CaptionTextBlock' property on object of type String I know I'm missing something really simple here, please help! ;D

• getJSON not working if the mvc model view controller has a parameter

  I'm having an issue with a callback. I'm not even getting an error in Firebug. If I alert before and after the getjson call both alerts show but the getjson call doesn't fire. public ActionResult TestPage() { return View(); } public ActionResult LoadMapLonLats(int mapId) { //some code return Json(_myMaps); } $("#Search").click(function() { $.getJSON("LoadMapLonLats", { mapId: 73 }, loadDbMap); }); function loadDbMap(maps) { alert('m'); $.each(maps, function(i) { alert(maps[i]); }); } As long as I leave TestPage without a parameter is works. If I add a parameter to TestPage(int id) then the call back to LoadMapLonLats doesn't work. Seems odd. Of course TestPage is the page I'm loading so I need to do some work here before rendering the page. Not sure why adding a parameter to the view would break the callback to another function. //this breaks he callback to LoadMapLonLats public ActionResult TestPage(int id) { return View(); } Any ideas? Seems like this may be related, if not sorry I can post a new thread.

• WCF Endpoints & Binding Configuration Issues

  I am running into a very strange issue here folks. For simplicity I created a project for the sole purpose of testing the issue outside the framework of a larger application and still encountered what is either a bug in WCF within Visual Studio 2010 or something related to my WCF newbie skill set : ) Here is the issue: I have a WCF endpoint I created running inside of an MVC3 project called "SimpleMethod". The method runs inside of a .svc file on the root of the application and it returns a bool. Using the "WCF Service Configuration Editor" I have added the endpoint to my Web.Config along with a called "LargeImageBinding". Here is the service: [OperationContract] public bool SimpleMethod() { return true; } And the Web.Config generated by the Config Tool: <system.serviceModel> <bindings> <wsHttpBinding> <binding name="LargeImageBinding" closeTimeout="00:10:00" /> </wsHttpBinding> </bindings> <services> <service name="WCFEndpoints.ServiceTestOne"> <endpoint address="/ServiceTestOne.svc" binding="wsHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="LargeImageBinding" contract="WCFEndpoints.IServiceTestOne" /> </service> </services> <behaviors> <serviceBehaviors> <behavior name=""> <serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="true" /> <serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="false" /> </behavior> </serviceBehaviors> </behaviors> <serviceHostingEnvironment multipleSiteBindingsEnabled="true" /> The service renders fine and you can see the endpoint when you navigate to: http://localhost:57364/ServiceTestOne.svc - Now the issue occurs when I create a separate project to consume the service. I add a service reference to a running instance of the above project, point it to: http://localhost:57364/ServiceTestOne.svc Here is the weird part. The service automatically generates just fine but In the Web.Config the endpoint that is generated looks like this: <client> <endpoint address="http://localhost:57364/ServiceTestOne.svc/ServiceTestOne.svc" binding="wsHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="WSHttpBinding_IServiceTestOne" contract="ServiceTestOne.IServiceTestOne" name="WSHttpBinding_IServiceTestOne"> As you can see it lists the "ServiceTestOne.svc" portion of the address twice! When I make a call to the the service I get the following error: The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found. I tried removing the extra "/ServiceTestOne.svc" at the end of the endpoint address in the above config, and I get the same exact error. Now what DOES work is if I go back to the WCF application and remove the custom endpoint and binding references in the Web.Config (everything in the "services" and "bindings" tags) then go back to the consumer application, update the reference to the service and make the call to SimpleMethod()....BOOM works like a charm and I get back a bool set to true. The thing is, I need to make custom binding configurations in order to allow for access to the service outside of the defaults, and from what I can tell, any attempt to create custom bindings makes the endpoints seem to run fine, but fail when an actual method call is made. Can anyone see any flaw in how I am putting this together? Thank you for your time - I have been running in circles with this for about a week!

WCF Services (IIS7) <--> ASP.NET MVC Application <--> Client Browser The services are username authenticated, the account that a client (of my web application) uses to logon ends up as the current principal on the host. When I remove either of them, all's fine but together they produce the following exception on the client: The requested upgrade is not supported by 'net.tcp://localhost:8081/Service2.svc'. This could be due to mismatched bindings (for example security enabled on the client and not on the server). In the server trace log, I find the following exception: Protocol Type application/negotiate was sent to a service that does not support that type of upgrade. Am I looking into the right direction or is there a better way to solve this?

• Trouble binding command in grid menu item.

  I have a grid that's inside a usercontrol derived class called MediatedUserControl. I'm adding a context menu to let the user delete an item, but I've been unable to figure out how to bind the command to my command property. I'm using MVVM and my viewmodel implements a public ICommand property called DeleteSelectedItemCommand. But I want to make it more specific. Value has to be the of the same type as the placeholder "_" from the first parameter (and so represents the "T" in the Java interface).   I have a situation where clicking a link in one column on the datatable opens A update FORM in the same page. The problem is when I hit the submit button for update, the render is set to false again of that update panel which was previously set true by parameter passed clicking the link. I tried htmlhiddenInput and did setValue and getvalue but the value is lost. Is there any way I can save that parameter send from link, when clicked, even after submitting the form. So in the .CS file, i call UpdateStyle(). The problem is, whenever I get into the selectionchanged event method, my ViewModel.SelectedItem is always null. I tried debugging this to see if the binding was working correctly, and it is. When I click on an item in the listbox, the SelectedItem Set is triggered, setting the value... but somewhere inbetween that and the selected changed (In the CS File) It gets reset to Null. Can anyone help out? Thanks

  I'm pretty new to Xaml and need some advise. A TreeView should be bound to a hierarchical object structure. The TreeView should have a context menu, which is specific for each object type. Anyway all the bining samples I could find use TextBlock instead of TreeViewItem in the DataTemplate, but wonder how to integrate the ContextMenu there.

Instead of values (Name and Height) I get full class names. If I use this code in a Window it works fine. Any ideas? I would like this user contorl works for itself (it gets the data form the DB and represents it in a ListView)... Thanks!
