  • VPN/Proxy server to bypass work proxy

    Here is my dilema, I am at work and can not set up a VPN connection to my VPN account in the USA. So what I would like to do is somehow have my "IE" at work connect to my home network and route any internet requests through my home PC to my VPN account, so I can access my USA Contents? So what I was thinking and I am not sure if this will work, but set up a proxy server at home on my home computer, that then routes all requests to my VPN Tunnel to the USA. Have my work computer use my home computer as the proxy and viola I have unrestricted internet access? Does that sound feasable? Thanks.

  • External speakers no longer working

    We have a Windows Vista laptop. On Monday we hooked it up to external speakers, as we always do, and they worked fine. On Tuesday, we did the same but then the speakers did not work. Weirdly, the laptop internal speaker does work. Nothing was changed between Monday and Tuesday. What happened and, more importantly, how can it be fixed? BTW we tested with other speakers (and cable) and that didn't help. So it seems like a laptop issue.

  • tricks for speeding up tar while tarring up a huge directory of little files?

    I'm trying to tar up a directory that has about 3M tiny files in it. Tar is chugging along, but I'm thinking its going to take longer than I can wait. I'm wondering if telling tar to not store metadata (owner, group, perms) would reduce the churn on reading and re-reading this huge directory and maybe speed things up, and if there is a tar switch that does this. My initial perusal of the man page only gets me something like --no-xattrs, which looks like a start, but I was hoping someone had some specific knowledge.

  • Using a Group Managed Service Account (gMSA) for a scheduled task

    Back in Windows Server 2008 R2, when stand-alone Managed Service Accounts (sMSA) were new, they could not be used to execute scheduled tasks. In Windows Server 2012 however, there is a new type of account called the Group Managed Service Account (gMSA). This type of account is supposedly capable of launching scheduled tasks in the task scheduler on clients & member servers inside of a Windows Server 2012 forest/domain functional level. So far, I have: Established a Windows Server 2012 forest/domain Created a Group Managed Service Account (gMSA) Installed the gMSA on a Windows Server 2012 member server And currently I'm having trouble with: Setting a scheduled task to use the gMSA When I attempt to use a gMSA on a scheduled task, I get the error message that says "The object cannot be found" (paraphrased) message. My question is: How do I configure a Scheduled Task to execute using a Group Managed Service Account (gMSA)?

  • How to protect folder privacy against unethical network administrators? [closed]

    I just need a technical solution for the sake of my group's shared passwords, projects, works, etc. safety. Our network has Active Directory with public/groups/users and NTFS permissions, under a Windows Server 2003 which will soon migrate to Windows Server 2008 R2. Our IT crowd is small, consisting of 2 DBAs, 4 designers, 6 developers (including me), 2 netadmins and (a lot of) tech supporters, everyone has local admin rights. Those 2 network admins weren't the ones who set the network up, they just took the lift recently when the previous ones quit. We usually find them laughing at private contents from users stored in the groups AD, sabotaging documents that don't match their personal tastes and, finally, this week we found out they stole a project we (developers and DBAs) were finishing and, long before, they presented it to the CEO as theirs without us knowing. I'm a systems analyst, and initially my group decided to store critical content, like shared passwords, inside encrypted .zip files. Unfortunately we couldn't do the same to the other hundreds of folders and files, which included the stolen project, because the zipping process would take too long for every update. We also tried an encrypted Subversion repository under SSL, but there are many dummies (~38 atm) involved in the projects that have trouble using TortoiseSVN when contributing, and very oftenly we had to fix messed up updates. Well, I think these two give the idea of what we've been trying to reach. So, is there a practical "individual" protection for our extensive data or my hope can already be euthanized? P.S.: Seriously, at the place where I live/work, political corruption gone the wildest, so denounce related options are likely impracticable. Yet both netadmins have strong "political bond" with the CEO and the President, hence their lousy behavior and our failed delation attempts.

  • jQuery autocomplete - update options on dynamically created elements

    Background The user enters values into multiple inputs on the page. Think of entering a list of widgets for sale. The user would select the type of a widget from a drop down. Then enter the name of the Widget vendor, and then the actual name of the widget. These UI elements would all appear as one row. The user is able to click an "add another widget" link and a new row is created. The two input elements have autocomplete functionality attached to them using the DevBridge jQuery plugin. It suggests the name of the vendor and the name of the widget. I have recently wired up the logic to filter the name of the widget based on the name of the vendor you entered. This means setting the (custom) vendorName parameter when attaching the autocomplete plugin so it can be passed to the server side to retrieve the widget names for that vendor that match the name the user entered. To achieve this functionality I'm dynamically attaching the autocomplete functionality to the second element (the widget name text box) when it receives focus. Here is an example: $('.autocomplete-widget').live('focus', function () { $(this).autocomplete({ serviceUrl: '/something.ashx', params: { type: 'widget', vendorName: $(this).parent().prev().find('.autocomplete-vendor').val()} }); }); Problem At first glance, this looks to function quite well. However I started noticing some inconsistencies, and upon inspection, I found out that the call to the server is actually happening several times in some cases. Each time the widget name input element receives focus the autocomplete functionality is attached. And what I'm seeing is that the call to the server is made in proportion to how many times the input element has gained focus. I'd like to avoid making the call more than once, but retain the ability to attach (or update) the autocomplete functionality "on focus". I've tried to use the autocomplete 'setOptions' method but have only been able to get it to work with the static elements, not the dynamically created elements. Question Is there a way I can clear out the autocomplete functionality before I attach another one?

  • ASP.NET GridView second header row to span main header row

    I have an ASP.NET GridView which has columns that look like this: | Foo | Bar | Total1 | Total2 | Total3 | Is it possible to create a header on two rows that looks like this? | | Totals | | Foo | Bar | 1 | 2 | 3 | The data in each row will remain unchanged as this is just to pretty up the header and decrease the horizontal space that the grid takes up. The entire GridView is sortable in case that matters. I don't intend for the added "Totals" spanning column to have any sort functionality. Don't forget the closing tag. Another edit: You can also do this without creating a custom class. The event handler method is a bit simpler, though.

  • ASP.NET DataList - defining "columns/rows" when repeating horizontal and using flow layout

    Here is my DataList: <asp:DataList id="DataList" Visible="false" RepeatDirection="Horizontal" Width="100%" HorizontalAlign="Justify" RepeatLayout="Flow" runat="server"> [Contents Removed] </asp:DataList> This generates markup that has each item wrapped in a span. From there, I'd like to break each of these spans out into rows of three columns. Ideally I would like something like this: <div> <span>Item 1</span> <span>Item 2</span> <span>Item 3</span> </div> <div> <span>Item 4</span> <span>Item 5</span> <span>Item 6</span> </div> [etc] The closest I can get to this is to set RepeatColumns to "3" and then a <br> is inserted after every three items in the DataList. <span>Item 1</span> <span>Item 2</span> <span>Item 3</span> <br> <span>Item 4</span> <span>Item 5</span> <span>Item 6</span> <br> This gets me kind of close, but really doesn't do the trick - I still can't control the layout the way I'd like to be able to. Can anyone suggest a way to make this better? If I could implement the above example - that would be perfect, however I'd accept a less elegant solution as well - as long as its more flexible than <br> (such as inserting a <span class="clear"></span> instead of <br>).

    Summary: Parent and Child class. One to one relationship between the Parent and Child. Parent has a FK property which references the primary key of the Child. I get an error: "Invalid index 3 for this SqlParameterCollection with Count=3" If I change the parent 'References' line as follows (i.e. provide the name of the child property I'm pointing at): References(x => x.ChildRef, "ChildId").PropertyRef("NHTestChildId").Cascade.All(); I get the error: "Unable to resolve property: NHTestChildId" So, I tried the 'HasOne()' reference setting, as follows: HasOne<NHTestChild>(x => x.ChildRef).ForeignKey("ChildId").Cascade.All().Fetch.Join(); This results in the save working, but the load fails to find the child. If I inspect the SQL Nhibernate produces I can see that NHibernate is assuming the Primary key of the parent is the link to the child (i.e. load join condition is "parent.NHTestParentId = child.NHTestChildId). The 'ForeignKey' specified appears to be ignored. I can set any value and no error occurs - the join just always fails and no child is returned. I've tried a number of slight variations on the above. It seems like it should be a simple thing to achieve. Any ideas?

  • Bugs in Excel's ActiveX combo boxes?

    I have noticed that I get all sorts of annoying errors when: I have ActiveX comboboxes on a worksheet (not an excel form) The comboboxes have event code linked to them (eg, onchange events) I use their listfillrange or linkedcell properties (clearing these properties seems to alleviate a lot of problems) (Not sure if this is connected) but there is data validation on the targeted linkedcell. I program a fairly complex excel application that does a ton of event handling and uses a lot of controls. Over the months, I have been trying to deal with a variety of bugs dealing with those combo boxes. I can't recall all the details of each instance now, but these bugs tend to involve pointing the listfillrange and linkedcell properties at named ranges, and often have to do with the combo box events triggering at inappropriate times (such as when application.enableevents = false). These problems seemed to grow bigger in Excel 2007, so that I had to give up on these combo boxes entirely (I now use combo boxes contained in user forms, rather than directly on the sheets). Has anyone else seen similar problems? If so, was there a graceful solution? I have looked around with Google and so far haven't spotted anyone with similar issues. Some of the symptoms I end up seeing are: Excel crashing when I start up (involves combobox_onchange, listfillrange-named range on another different sheet, and workbook_open interactions). (note, I also had some data validation on the the linked cells in case a user edited them directly.) Excel rendering bugs (usually when the combo box changes, some cells from another sheet get randomly drawn over the top of the current sheet) Sometimes it involves the screen flashing entirely to another sheet for a moment. Excel losing its mind (or rather, the call stack) (related to the first bullet point). Sometimes when a function modifies a property of the comboboxes, the combobox onchange event fires, but it never returns control to the function that caused the change in the first place. The combobox_onchange events are triggered even when application.enableevents = false. Events firing when they shouldn't (I posted another question on stack overflow related to this). At this point, I am fairly convinced that ActiveX comboboxes are evil incarnate and not worth the trouble. I have switched to including these comboboxes inside a userform module instead. I would rather inconvenience users with popup forms than random visual artifacts and crashing (with data loss).

  • When programatically creating a new IIS web site, how can I add it to an existing application pool?

    I have successfully automated the process of creating a new IIS website, however the code I've written doesn't care about application pools, it just gets added to DefaultAppPool. However I'd like to add this newly created site to an existing application pool.     I am an experienced asp.net web forms developer using c# but i have never used asp.net MVC. As I am just starting out with mvc i would like to start with mvc 2. I am looking for a good intro/tutorial to help me understand the basics. I am aware of the Nerd Dinner but that is based around MVC 1. What would you guys recomend for me to get started. Should i work through the nerd dinner tutorial then once i have a good understanding of mvc then research the new features of mvc 2 or is there a similar getting started tutorial for mvc 2. Sugestions of good books to read are also welcome. In fact any advice on getting started on mvc 2 would be good.

  • Creating Drill-Down Detail UITableView from JSON NSDictionary

    I'm have a load of trouble finding out how to do this, I want to show this in a UITableDetailView (Drill-Down style) with each item in a different cell. All of the things I've read all show how to load a single image on the detail instead of showing as a UITableView. Does the dictionary have to have "children" in order to load correctly? Here is the code for the first view creating *dict from the JSON rowsArray. I guess what I'm looking for is what to put in the FollowingDetailViewController.m to see the rest of *dict contents, so when selecting a row, it loads the rest of the *dict. I have rowsArray coming back as follows: '{ loginName = Johnson; memberid = 39; name = Kris; age = ;}, etc,etc...   • In NHibernate, how do I combine two DetachedCriteria instances

    My scenario is this: I have a base NHibernate query to run of the form (I've coded it using DetachedCriteria , but describe it here using SQL syntax): SELECT * FROM Items I INNER JOIN SubItems S on S.FK = I.Key The user interface to show the results of this join allows the user to specify additional criteria: Say: I.SomeField = 'UserValue'. Now, I need the final load command to be: SELECT * FROM Items I INNER JOIN SubItems S on S.FK = I.Key WHERE I.SomeField = 'UserValue' My problem is: I've created a DetachedCriteria with the 'static' aspect of the query (the top join) and the UI creates a DetachedCriteria with the 'dynamic' component of the query. I need to combine the two into a final query that I can execute on the NHibernate session. DefaultCriteria.Add() takes an ICriterion (which are created using the Expression class, and maybe other classes I don't know of which could be the solution to my problem). Does anyone know how I might do what I want?

    Im having trouble with a web application that will deadlock occasionally There are 3 queries involved. 2 are trying to update a table UPDATE AttendanceRoll SET ErrorFlag = 0 WHERE ContractID = @ContractID AND DATEPART(month,AttendanceDate) = DATEPART(month,@Month_Beginning) AND DATEPART(year,AttendanceDate) = DATEPART(year,@Month_Beginning) and one is trying to insert into the table INSERT INTO AttendanceRoll (AttendanceDate, ContractID, PersonID, StartTime, EndTime, Hours, AbsenceReason, UpdateCount, SplitShiftID, ModifiedBy, ModifiedDate) SELECT @P33, @P34, @P35, CONVERT(datetime,REPLACE( @P36 ,&apos;.&apos;,&apos;:&apos;)), CONVERT(datetime,REPLACE( @P37 ,&apos;.&apos;,&apos;:&apos;)), @P38, @P39, @P40, 1, @P41, GETDATE() The deadlock graph shows a kind of circular arangement of page locks and an exchange event and the 2 update queries have the same server process id. If anyone has any ideas about how I should go about solving this issue it would be most appreciated. I have the deadlock graph that I can post if anybody needs to see it. Thanks Carl R

    I have an AIR application written in html/javascript and I want to use the Actionscript print functions but I have no experience in Actionscript for AIR. Where do I put the Actionscript code ? Does it go into an mxml file or does it need to be compiled into a Flash application. Where do I put it and how do I include it into the html document ?   • Command /Developer/usr/bin/dsymutil failed with exit code 10

    I am getting the above error message randomly (so far as I can tell) on iPhone projects. Occasionally it will go away upon either: Clean Restart XCode Reboot Reinstall XCode But sometimes it won't. When it won't the only solution I have found is to take all the source material, import it into a new project, and then redo all the connections in IB. Then I'm good until it strikes again. Anybody have any suggestions? [update 20091030] I have tried building both debug and release versions, both full and lite versions. I've also tried switching the debug symbols from DWARF with external dSYM file to DWARF and to stabs. Clean builds in all formats make no differences. Permission repairs change nothing. Setting up a new user has no effect. Same error on the builds. Thanks for the suggestions! [Update 20091031] Here's an easier and (apparently) reliable workaround. It hinges upon the discovery that the problem is linked to a target not a project In the same project file, create a new target Option-Drag (copy) all the files from the BAD target 'Copy Bundle Resources' folder to the NEW target 'Copy Bundle Resources' folder Repeat (2) with 'Compile Sources' and 'Link Binary With Libraries' Duplicate the Info.plist file for the BAD target and name it correctly for the NEW target. Build the NEW target! [Update 20100222] Apparently an IDE bug, now apparently fixed, although Apple does not allow direct access to the original bug of a duplicate.   • Extending a DropDownList control

    I have a rather large application that has literally a hundred DDLs with Yes / No ListItems. In an attempt to same myself some time, I created a Custom Control that extends the standard DDL. It all seems to work fine but I am having some issues when assigning the SelectedValue property in code where the selected value does not seem to have an affect on the control. I wonder if I should be adding my items during Init or PagePreLoad? Should I be calling base.OnInit before or after I add the list items? This mostly works but not 100%.   • jquery Ajax sortable list stops being sortable when Ajax call updates the list html

  • Assigning console.log to another object (Webkit issue)

    I wanted to keep my logging statements as short as possible while preventing console from being accessed when it doesn't exist; I came up with the following solution: var _ = {}; if (console) { _.log = console.debug; } else { _.log = function() { } } To me, this seems quite elegant, and it works great in Firefox 3.6 (including preserving the line numbers that make console.debug more useful than console.log). But it doesn't work in Safari 4. [Update: Or in Chrome. So the issue seems to be a difference between Firebug and the Webkit console.] If I follow the above with console.debug('A') _.log('B'); the first statement works fine in both browsers, but the second generates a "TypeError: Type Error" in Safari. Is this just a difference between how Firebug and the Safari Web Developer Tools implement console? If so, it is VERY annoying on Apple's Webkit's part. Binding the console function to a prototype and then instantiating, rather than binding it directly to the object, doesn't help. I could, of course, just call console.debug from an anonymous function assigned to _.log, but then I'd lose my line numbers. Any other ideas?
