• Google Analytics showing more unique visitors than there are pages on an intranet site

  I take care of a company intranet and measure the traffic with GA. I am absolutely sure that there are no more than 5000 URLs in our company and it is impossible to check the intranet from outside the company network. Yet when I check the number of Unique Visitors (UV) in the last year GA says there were 36.500 of them. How is that possible? I thought UV should measure each URL only once in the given time period. Could anybody explain how this actually works? Can it be that the cookie trackers expire after some time and are counted more then once?

• Sharing unique links on social media vs SEO

  We're currently implementing a voucher system on our site which will allow our users to obtain a 25+% discount on certain products, provided they donate 10% of the purchase price to charity. We will offer the ability to share the discounts via social media in return for larger discounts to the sharer for each person who clicks through the link and buys an item. I understand that social links have SEO benifits, but this appears to be based on lots of people sharing the same link. If our voucher users share a unique link i.e. http://ourdomain.com/sipsfesdf rather than a fixed link http://ourdomain.com/product-name will we still receive the same benifts? Should we instead share something like http://ourdomain.com/product-name/sipsfesdf Thanks in advance.

• Procedural object generation and unique identification

  My question relates to procedural content generation and data management of the emerging objects in a database. I assume a networked game, with a server-client model. Unspecified objects in the game world are generated while the game is running with procedural algorithms (for example perlin noise). The players (/clients) can modify the properties of these objects, but have to notify the server of these changes. How could this communication address unique objects, so that both the server and the client know of which object they are speaking? Not only the inner properties of the objects can differ, but also visible, such as the position. When the player wants to select one of these objects the game has to find out the id - does anyone know which methods or algorithms can accomplish that?

• Physics don't apply on a unique body AndEngine

  I am developing a game in AndEngine so far I managed to create everything I wanted for my sprite that was connected to a BoxBody. I was rotating it moving it everything was great. I wanted my collision detection to be more precise so I changed from boxBody to unique irregular shaped body. I found all the vertices and I just replaced the newly created irregular shaped body with the boxbody everywhere in my code. Not only that the image of the sprite is not in place but all the physics and maths I was doing for movement and physics wont work. Please help me :(. Thanks in advance.

  Here's a pretty simple idea, in this pastebin I've posted some pair of numbers. These represent Nodes of a unidirected connected graph. The input to stdin will be of the form, (they'll be numbers, i'll be using an example here) c d q r a b d e p q so x y means x is connected to y (not viceversa) There are 2 paths in that example. a->b->c->d->e and p->q->r. You need to print all the unique paths from that graph The output should be of the format a->b->c->d->e p->q->r Notes You can assume the numbers are chosen such that one path doesn't intersect the other (one node belongs to one path) The pairs are in random order. They are more than 1 paths, they can be of different lengths. All numbers are less than 1000. If you need more details, please leave a comment. I'll amend as required. • How to create repeatable table with unique ID's using jQuery

  I need to create a table structure that can be "copied" and populated with a new set of data. However, each table must have unique IDs for functions that must access them later. For example: <table class="main"> <thead><tr><th class="header"></th></tr></thead> <tbody> <tr class="row"><td class="col0"></td><td class="col1"></td></tr> </tbody> </table> My current thought is to use jQuery to load the table from a seperate html file into a variable. Using this saved table I could then create a function that copies it, traverses the table to add an ID to each section where information will need to be appended from a seperate data source, and return this new table. I am new to jQuery and feel like I may be missing an easier/better way to accomplish this. Any help on this subject would be appreciated.

  I have a noodle scratcher that I can't seem to figure out. I am validating for unique usernames and emails addresses. I have the following rules: protected $rules = array( 'username' => 'required|min:4|unique:users,username', 'email' => 'email|unique:users,email', 'password' => 'min:6', ); If I update a form that has the username (which is the same as it currently is), I get a The username has already been taken. error. If I do the same with the email, I get no error at all. I know about adding the last param to the unique validation: 'unique:users,username,{{$id}}' or 'unique:users,username,'.$id This doesn't work on the username. I get the same issue. I can't figure out why this works for the email, but not the username. Anyone had a similar issue or know where I am going wrong? Many thanks,

  I would like to know how I can count the number of unique values in a jagged array. My domain object contains a string property that has space delimitered values. class MyObject { string MyProperty; //e.g = "v1 v2 v3" } Given a list of MyObject's how can I determine the number of unique values? The following linq code returns an array of jagged array values. A solution would be to store a temporary single array of items, looped through each jagged array and if values do not exist, to add them. Then a simple count would return the unique number of values. However, was wondering if there was a nicer solution. db.MyObjects.Where(t => !String.IsNullOrEmpty(t.MyProperty)) .Select(t => t.Categories.Split(new char[] { ' ' }, StringSplitOptions.RemoveEmptyEntries)) .ToArray() Below is a more readable example: array[0] = { "v1", "v2", "v3" } array[1] = { "v1" } array[2] = { "v4", "v2" } array[3] = { "v1", "v5" } From all values the unique items are v1, v2, v3, v4, v5.   I am a novice Perl programmer and would like some help. I have an array list that I am trying to split each element based on the pipe into two scalar elements. From there I would like to spike out only the lines that read ‘PJ RER Apts to Share’ as the first element. Then I want to print out the second element only once while counting each time the element appears. I wrote the piece of code below but can’t figure out where I am going wrong. It might be something small that I am just overlooking.   Using JDO / DataNucleus / NeoDatis datastore I added @Unique to a field of a persistable object, however I am allowed to create multiple objects which violate the unique constraint. The docs for DataNucleus/NeoDatis suggest that Unique fields are supported. @PersistenceCapable public class User { @Persistent @Unique private String username; //... } If I add multiple objects to the DB with the same username there's no problem doing so. :(

• Does every SmartCard have unique ID?

  Does anyone knows if every SmartCard has some unique identifying number that can be read by using ordinary card reader? Number format doesn't matter at all (or string format), just the fact that it exists and that it's readable is enough. I know that new smartcards can be programmed to my liking, and that I can issue unique IDs to them in the process, but I'm more interested in reading unique ID from credit cards, phone calling cards, stuff like that. I should probably mention what is intended purpose for this, before I get incinerated. I want to find easy way to uniquely identify walk-in customers, most of people have at least one smartcard in their pocket...

  I am in trouble. I placed and advt on a website in 2012 which said he has 950,000 unique visits each month so early in 2012 i advertised with them. The advertised didn't worked out so checked in 2-3 months time and i saw that the unique visitors on their site was 8,000 at that time.I immediately close the account I dont remember which site i was checking the unique visitors.That advt company has filed a dispute against me. So is there any tool that give me stats of 2012 of any website. i tried google trends but it doesnt show statistics ..

• SQL Server 2000 incorrect message: duplicate key with unique index

  Database server: SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.760 - SP3 - Standard Edition I have a table with 5 columns, in which I want to add a large (300.000) number of records. There is a unique index on the combination of two columns. If I add the records with this unique index in place, SQL Server gives this error message: Msg 2601, Level 14, State 3, Line 1 Cannot insert duplicate key row in object 'TESTTABLE' with unique index 'test'. The statement has been terminated. (0 row(s) affected) However, if I delete the unique index and then add the records, I do not get any error when I create this unique index afterwards.

• Microsoft SQL Server 2008 - 99% fragmentation on non-clustered, non-unique index

  I have a table with several indexes (defined below). One of the indexes (IX_external_guid_3) has 99% fragmentation regardless of rebuilding/reorganizing the index. Anyone have any idea as to what might cause this, or the best way to fix it? We are using Entity Framework 4.0 to query this, the EF queries on the other indexed fields about 10x faster on average then the external_guid_3 field, however an ADO.Net query is roughly the same speed on both (though 2x slower than the EF Query to indexed fields). • Last GUID used up - new ScottGuID unique ID to replace it

  You might have heard in recent news that the last ever GUID was used up. The GUID {FFFFFFFF-FFFF-FFFF-FFFF-FFFFFFFFFFFF} was just consumed by a soon to be released project at Microsoft. Immediately after the GUID's creation the word spread around the Microsoft campuses around the globe. Microsoft's approximately 100,000 worldwide employees then started blogging, tweeting, and facebooking about the dubious "achievement." The following screenshot shows GUIDGEN (the Windows tool for creating GUIDs) with the last ever GUID. All GUIDs created by projects at Microsoft must be registered in a central repository for record keeping. This allows quick-fix engineers, security engineers, anti-malware developers, and testers to do a quick look up of an unknown GUID and find out if it belongs to Microsoft. The following screenshot shows the Microsoft GUID Tracker internal application and the last few GUIDs being used up by various Microsoft projects. What is perhaps more interesting than the news about the GUID is the project that used that last GUID. The recent announcements regarding the development experience for the Windows Phone 7 Series (WP7S) all involve free editions of Visual Studio 2010. One of the lesser known developer tools is based on a resurrected project that many of you are probably familiar with, but have never used. The tool is in fact Microsoft Bob 7 Series (MB7S). MB7S is an agent-based approach for mobile phone app development. The UI incorporates both natural language interfaces and motion gesture behaviors, similar to the Windows Phone 7 Series “Metro” interface. If it works, it will help to expand the breadth of mobile app developers. After the GUID: The ScottGuID It came as no big surprise that eventually the last GUID would be used up. Knowing this, a group of engineers at Microsoft has designed, implemented, and tested a replacement to the GUID: The ScottGuID. There are several core principles of the ScottGuID: 1. The concepts used in ScottGuIDs must be easily understood by a developer who is already familiar with GUIDs 2. There must exist a compatibility layer between ScottGuIDs and GUIDs 3. A ScottGuID must be usable in a practical manner in non-computing environments 4. There must exist ScottGuID APIs for all common platforms: Win32/Win64/WinCE, .NET (incl. Silverlight), Linux, FreeBSD, MacOS (incl. iPhone OS), Symbian, RIM BlackBerry, Google Android, etc. 5. ScottGuIDs must never run out ScottGuID use cases One of the more subtle principles of the ScottGuID is principle #3. While technically a GUID could be used in any environment, it was not practical to do so in terms of data entry and error detection. In order to have the ScottGuID be a true universal ID it must be usable in non-computing environments. Prior to the announcement of the ScottGuID there have been a number of until-now confidential projects. One of the tools that will soon become public is ScottGuIDGen, which is in essence an updated version of GUIDGEN that can create ScottGuIDs. The following screenshot shows a sample ScottGuID. To demonstrate the various applications of the ScottGuID there were test deployments around the globe. The following examples are a small showcase of the applications that have already been prototyped. With a small number of principles, a team of smart engineers, and a passion for "getting it right" the ScottGuID should last well past our lifetimes. • Ways to ensure unique instances of a class?

  I'm looking for different ways to ensure that each instance of a given class is a uniquely identifiable instance. For example, I have a Name class with the field name. Once I have a Name object with name initialised to John Smith I don't want to be able to instantiate a different Name object also with the name as John Smith, or if instantiation does take place I want a reference to the orginal object to be passed back rather than a new object. I'm aware that one way of doing this is to have a static factory that holds a Map of all the current Name objects and the factory checks that an object with John Smith as the name doesn't already exist before passing back a reference to a Name object. Another way I could think of off the top of my head is having a static Map in the Name class and when the constructor is called throwing an exception if the value passed in for name is already in use in another object, however I'm aware throwing exceptions in a constructor is generally a bad idea. Are there other ways of achieving this?
