  • Controlling access to large files in Apache

    Hi there, I am looking to control access to some large files (we're talking many GB here) by the use of signed URLs. The files are currently restricted by LDAP Basic authentication (mod_auth_ldap), but I need to change this to verify the signature (passed as a query parameter in the URL). Basically, I just need to run a script to verify the signature, and allow the request to proceed as if authentication had succeeded. My initial thought to this was just to use a simple CGI script, but as the files are so large I'm concerned about performance. So, really, this question is (probably) more like "are there any performance implications of streaming large files from a CGI script via Apache?"… and if so, "is there a better way of doing this (short of writing a dedicated authentication module)?" If this makes any sense, help would be much appreciated :) P.S. I wasn't sure exactly what to search for for this (10 minutes of Googling were fruitless), so I may very well be duplicating someone else's post.

  • Subversion with Apache and permissions issues

    Hello, I have setup an SVN repository for use with Apache 2 via svnadmin create command and appropriate vhost configuration. I found that, in order to correctly use the repository, this must be owned by wwwrun user (or www group) or chmodded to 777. I would like to ask if it's possible to explicitly tell Apache to impersonate another user when serving requests to a certain path (from vhost.conf), like with suphp extension, so I won't mess with permissions once I create a repository.   • How to continue copying on error with copyDirectory from FileUtils (Apache Commons IO 2.4)

    I am trying to copy files from one folder to another using the FileUtils method "static void copyDirectory(File srcDir, File destDir)" from apache commons io (2.4) with the following code: String srcDir = "/sourceDirectory/examples/"; String destDir = "/tmp/examples/"; try{ FileUtils.copyDirectory(new File(srcDir), new File(destDir)); } catch (IOException e){ e.printStackTrace(); } The file structure looks like the following: examples/ (read access) examples/.subdirectory (NO access) examples/file1.txt (read access) examples/file2.txt (read access) examples/subdirectory2/file1.txt (read access) examples/subdirectory2/file2.txt (NO access) The problem is, that in srcDir there are a few files and one subdirectory I don't have access to. FileUtils.copyDirectory throws an "java.io.FileNotFoundException: .subdirectory (Permission denied)" and aborts. Is it possible to ignore those files I don't have permission to and just copy all the other files I can read?

  • mod rewrite works fine apart from for missing directory index files

    I have a legacy web site hosted on Apache. It has a number of web pages sitting in the public web root and its subfolders. publicDocs/ directorywith_no_defaultfile/ some-legacy-flat-page.htm .htaccess index.php some-legacy-flat-page.htm I would like to start using Zend MVC for some of the newer pages. I have got a .htaccess mod rewrite rule working so that any request for a non-existent file is sent to be handled by the MVC bootstrap file (/index.php). With my current set-up, the following types of requests are routed to '/index.php', the MVC bootstrap: /index.php /blah /directorywith_no_defaultfile/bloo The following types of request are served by old legacy (flat) pages /some-legacy-flat-page.htm /directorywith_no_defaultfile/some-legacy-flat-page.htm But, when I a request a non-existent file that is a directory like these: /directorywith_no_defaultfile or /directorywith_no_defaultfile/ I get an error: Forbidden You don't have permission to access /directorywith_no_defaultfile/ on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. I suspect this may have something to do with the way Apache handles default files. Do you know which Apache directives could be causing this?

  • How can I find the space used by a SQL Transaction Log?

    The SQL Server sp_spaceused stored procedure is useful for finding out a database size, unallocated space, etc. However (as far as I can tell), it does not report that information for the transaction log (and looking at database properties within SQL Server Management Studio also does not provide that information for transaction logs). While I can easily find the physical space used by a transaction log by looking at the .ldf file, how can I find out how much of the log file is used and how much is unused?

  • How can I diagnose a "502 Bad Gateway" response from an Apache/Tomcat configuration?

    I just finished up configuring a fairly default configuration of Tomcat. My Apache configuration was pre-existing and post-tomcat it still has no issues. I am using mod_jk to (if I am saying this correctly) interface between Apache and Tomcat and have my conf files setup for my workers, etc. I put my test file (Simply: http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-4.1-doc/appdev/sample/web/hello.jsp) into my tomcat/webapps/ directory and then call it via http://localhost/test/hello.jsp. From here Apache returns a "502 Bad Gateway" response. I confirmed this via the Apache logs, but beyond that I have no idea how to diagnose the issue. I assume the 502 is because Tomcat did not respond. I'd like to confirm if Tomcat received the request, but cannot locate the log file. At this point I had thought my installation was complete, so not sure where to go from here. Any input would be appreciated.

    I can't get the general log to work in this version of MySQL. I added the following lines to /usr/my.cnf: general_log = 1 general_log_file = "/var/log/mysql.log" Then restarted the server: [root@localhost ~]# service mysql restart Shutting down MySQL.. SUCCESS! Starting MySQL. SUCCESS! The settings seem to be taken into account: mysql> SHOW VARIABLES LIKE 'general_log%'; +------------------+--------------------+ | Variable_name | Value | +------------------+--------------------+ | general_log | ON | | general_log_file | /var/log/mysql.log | +------------------+--------------------+ 2 rows in set (0.01 sec) But the log is never created: [root@localhost ~]# mysqladmin flush-logs [root@localhost ~]# ls -al /var/log/mysql.log ls: cannot access /var/log/mysql.log: No such file or directory Any idea why?

  • SQL Server 2000, large transaction log, almost empty, performance issue?

    For a company that I have been helping troubleshoot their database. In SQL Server 2000, database is about 120 gig. Something caused the transaction log to grow MUCH larger than normal to over 100 gig, some hung transaction that didn't commit or roll back for a few days. That has been resolved and it now stays around 1% full or less, due to its hourly transaction log backups. It IS my understanding that a GROWING transaction log file size can cause performance issues. But what I am a little paranoid about is the size. Although mainly empty, MIGHT it be having a negative effect on performance? But I haven't found any documentation that suggests this is true. I did find this link: http://www.bigresource.com/MS_SQL-Large-Transaction-Log-dramatically-Slows-down-processing-any-idea-why--2ahzP5wK.html but in this post I can't tell if their log was full or empty, and there is not any replies to the post in this link. So I am guessing it is not a problem, anyone know for sure?

  • Getting SEC to only monitor latest version of a log file?

    I have been tasked with running SEC to help correlate PHP logs. The basic setup is pretty straightforward, the problem I'm having is that we want to monitor a log file whose name contains the date(php-2012-10-01.log for instance). How can I tell SEC to only monitor the latest version of the file(and of course switch to the newest log file every day at midnight) I could do something like create a latest version of the file that links to the latest version and run a cron job at midnight to update the link, but I am looking for a more elegant solution

  • SQL SERVER – Monitoring SQL Server Database Transaction Log Space Growth – DBCC SQLPERF(logspace) – Puzzle for You

    First of all – if you are going to say this is very old subject, I agree this is very (very) old subject. I believe in earlier time we used to have this only option to monitor Log Space. As new version of SQL Server released we all equipped with DMV, Performance Counters, Extended Events and much more new enhancements. However, during all this year, I have always used DBCC SQLPERF(logspace) to get the details of the logs. It may be because when I started my career I remember this command and it did what I wanted all the time. Recently I have received interesting question and I thought, I should request your help. However, before I request your help, let us see traditional usage of DBCC SQLPERF(logspace). Every time I have to get the details of the log I ran following script. Additionally, I liked to store the details of the when the log file snapshot was taken as well so I can go back and know the status log file growth. This gives me a fair estimation when the log file was growing. CREATE TABLE dbo.logSpaceUsage ( id INT IDENTITY (1,1), logDate DATETIME DEFAULT GETDATE(), databaseName SYSNAME, logSize DECIMAL(18,5), logSpaceUsed DECIMAL(18,5), [status] INT ) GO INSERT INTO dbo.logSpaceUsage (databaseName, logSize, logSpaceUsed, [status]) EXEC ('DBCC SQLPERF(logspace)') GO SELECT * FROM dbo.logSpaceUsage GO I used to record the details of log file growth every hour of the day and then we used to plot charts using reporting services (and excel in much earlier times). Well, if you look at the script above it is very simple script. Now here is the puzzle for you. Puzzle 1: Write a script based on a table which gives you the time period when there was highest growth based on the data stored in the table. Puzzle 2: Write a script based on a table which gives you the amount of the log file growth from the beginning of the table to the latest recording of the data. You may have to run above script at some interval to get the various data samples of the log file to answer above puzzles. To make things simple, I am giving you sample script with expected answers listed below for both of the puzzle.   • How to make sure Solr/Lucene won't die with java.lang.OutOfMemoryError?

    I'm really puzzled why it keeps dying with java.lang.OutOfMemoryError during indexing even though it has a few GBs of memory. Is there a fundamental reason why it needs manual tweaking of config files / jvm parameters instead of it just figuring out how much memory is available and limiting itself to that? No other programs except Solr ever have this kind of problem. Yes, I can keep tweaking JVM heap size every time such crashes happen, but this is all so backwards.   • Axis2 with OpenEJB error on Tomcat

    Hi, I deployed on Tomcat Axis2 and OpenEjb and got the error. If deploy either only axis2 or openejb, they works properly, but when deploy them together, Axis2 can't be deployed, but OpenEjb is available. Could anybody help with this problem, please?   • Function inside .profile results in no log-in

    I've created a custom function in my .profile, and I've added right at the bottom, after my custom aliases : # custom functions function eclipse-gtk { cd ~/development/eclipse-juno ./eclipse_wb.sh & cd - } The function starts a custom version of my eclipse. After I've added it, because I didn't wanted to log-out/log-in, I've reloaded my profile with the command: . ~/.profile and then I've tested my function by calling eclipse-gtk and it worked without any issue. Today when I booted, I couldn't log in. After providing my password, in a few seconds I was back at the log-in screen. Dropping to command line using CTR + ALT + F1, I've commented out the function in my .profile and the log-in was possible without any issue. My question is, what did I do wrong when I wrote the function? And if there is something wrong, why did it work yesterday after reloading the profile. Thanks in advance. Using: Ubuntu 12.04

  • Ubuntu One Files for Android will not let me log in

    I installed Ubuntu One Files on my Nexus One phone. When I tap Log in on the main screen, the app tries to log in then after a few seconds returns the following message: Log-in failed, please try again later. I have an Ubuntu One account, and when I tap Register on the main screen for Ubuntu One Files, I can log in using my phone's Web browser. But if I go back to the app and try to log in, I get the same error. Again, my phone is a Nexus One running Android 2.3.4. The phone is not rooted or modded in any way.

  • Project compilation requires a class that is not used anywhere

    When I build with ant my project that uses libgdx, I get a strange error. It says that a class com.google.gwt.dom.client.ImageElement is not found, but it isn't used at all in the code. How can I find what makes this class necessary? Even searching over the whole project doesn't give any results. It says that error is at PixmapTextureAtlas.java:16 (class source), but there is no code that uses that ImageElement class. Adding the library containing com.google.gwt.dom.client.ImageElement class helps, of course, but I'd like to figure out why this class in needed.   • PHP extensions won't load on Apache startup

  • PHP sessions causing Apache to hang indefinitely

    The problem is that every so often a page that writes to a Session will cause apache to hang forever for a particular session. Once this error occurs for one user any further modifications to any session of any user will cause the website to hang for this user. This problem has been my sole focus for days. I have a development VPS running Windows 2003 and default latest version of XAMPP using the standard PHP session handler. The code in question actually runs on two other machines perfectly normally so although my common sense says it’s a web server configuration issue but at this point I am willing to try anything. On further investigation there are no errors in the Apache, PHP or System event log. Resources are abundant and there is no “AJAX shit storm” or more than a couple writes to a session per page. I have also implemented session_write_close() wherever possible to try and help elevate the problem. I have checked the session’s directory which is set to “C:\windows\Temp” and found that once a user enters this hanging phase that the corresponding session file is exclusively locked and the only way to resolve this is to stop Apache and wait a few moments for the files to become unlocked and delete them. I am not wondering if deletion is required. The Sessions themselves only contain 4 bits of information. ShoppingCartID, UserID, UserLevel and Refering URL and are alphanumerical with an occasional slash. My PHP.INI’s session section is configured like this: session.save_handler = files session.save_path = "C:\WINDOWS\Temp" session.use_cookies = 1 session.name = PHPSESSID session.auto_start = 0 session.cookie_lifetime = 0 session.cookie_path = / session.cookie_domain = session.cookie_httponly = session.serialize_handler = php session.gc_probability = 1 session.gc_divisor = 100 session.gc_maxlifetime = 1440 session.bug_compat_42 = 1 session.bug_compat_warn = 1 session.referer_check = session.entropy_length = 0 session.entropy_file = session.cache_limiter = nocache session.cache_expire = 180 session.use_trans_sid = 0 session.hash_function = 0 session.hash_bits_per_character = 4 I have tried everything I can think of and the whole problem is now a blur to me.
