  • Converting ASP.NET web site to MVC2

    - by kapil
    I have my existing web site developed using ASP.NET. It's college management system. Now I need to redevelop it on MVC2. What all changes do I need to do? I am little bit aware of MVC and have done some exercises also. Thing I know is I can keep my database intact but there will be massive changes at other places. WHat will be the better way to minimize the changes?

  • How to dump ASP.NET Request headers to string

    - by FreshCode
    I'd like to email myself a quick dump of a GET request's headers for debugging. I used to be able to do this in classic ASP simply with the Request object, but Request.ToString() doesn't work. And the following code returned an empty string: using (StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(Request.InputStream)) { string requestHeaders = reader.ReadToEnd(); // ... // send requestHeaders here }

  • Custom model in ASP.NET MVC controller: Custom display message for Date DataType

    - by Rita
    Hi I have an ASP.NET MVC Page that i have to display the fields in customized Text. For that I have built a CustomModel RequestViewModel with the following fields. Description, Event, UsageDate Corresponding to these my custom Model has the below code. So that, the DisplayName is displayed on the ASP.NET MVC View page. Now being the Description and Event string Datatype, both these fields are displaying Custom DisplayMessage. But I have problem with Date Datatype. Instead of "Date of Use of Slides", it is still displaying UsageDate from the actualModel. Anybody faced this issue with DateDatatype? Appreciate your responses. Custom Model: [Required(ErrorMessage="Please provide a description")] [DisplayName("Detail Description")] [StringLength(250, ErrorMessage = "Description cannot exceed 250 chars")] // also need min length 30 public string Description { get; set; } [Required(ErrorMessage="Please specify the name or location")] [DisplayName("Name/Location of the Event")] [StringLength(250, ErrorMessage = "Name/Location cannot exceed 250 chars")] public string Event { get; set; } [Required(ErrorMessage="Please specify a date", ErrorMessageResourceType = typeof(DateTime))] [DisplayName("Date of Use of Slides")] [DataType(DataType.Date)] public string UsageDate { get; set; } ViewCode: <p> <%= Html.LabelFor(model => model.Description) %> <%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.Description) %> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Description) %> </p> <p> <%= Html.LabelFor(model => model.Event) %> <%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.Event) %> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Event) %> </p> <p> <%= Html.LabelFor(model => model.UsageDate) %> <%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.UsageDate) %> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.UsageDate) %> </p>

  • Most mature ASP.NET MVC Blog Engine?

    - by Tony_Henrich
    What's the best ASP.NET MVC based blog engine out there which is ready to deploy? I am guessing there are no MVC blog engines which are comparable with WebForms based blog engines like dasBlog, BlogEngine and subText? I think Oxite is a dead end and Orchid is more like a CMS. Looking for an engine which can do these: - RSS feeds support - anti comment spam functionality like support for Akismet - comment post approval support - Some kind of theming is possible

  • 404 Pages in ASP.NET MVC

    - by Maxim Z.
    I'm building my first ASP.NET MVC website, and I'm trying to figure out how to implement a 404 page. Should I create a controller called "404Controller?" If so, how do I then register this Controller with IIS so that it redirects 404s to that page? Also, in a situation where something is not found (in the database, for example) by some other Controller code, how would I redirect the request to my 404 page?

  • JQuery timer plugin on ASP.NET MVC Page button click

    - by Rita
    Hi I have an ASP.NET MVC Page with a button called "Start Live Meeting". When the User clicks on this button, it calls a controller method called "StartLiveMeeting" that returns a string. If the controller returns empty string, then i want the Timer to call the Controller method until it returns the string. I am using jquery.timer.js plugin ( http://plugins.jquery.com/files/jquery.timers-1.2.js.txt ) On the button click, the controller method is being called. But Timer is not initiating. I have specified 5sec to call the controller method. I appreciate your responses. Code on ASPX Page: //When "Start Meeting" button is clicked, if it doesn’t return empty string, Display that text and Stop Timer. Else call the Timer in every 5 sec and call the StartLiveMeeting Controller method. $("#btnStartMeeting").click(function() { var lM = loadLiveMeeting(); if (lM == "") { $("#btnStartMeeting").oneTime("5s", function() { }); } else { $("#btnStartMeeting").stopTime("hide"); } return false; }); function loadLiveMeeting() { $("#divConnectToLive").load('<%= Url.Action("StartLiveMeeting") %>', {}, function(responseText, status) { return responseText; }); } <asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="cphMain" runat="server"> <div id="divStartMeetingButton"><input id="btnStartMeeting" type="submit" value="Start Meeting" /> </div> <div id = "divConnectToLive"> <div id="loading" style="visibility:hidden"> <img src="../../img/MedInfo/ajax_Connecting.gif" alt="Loading..." /> </div> </div> Controller Method: [HttpPost] public string StartLiveMeeting() { int intCM_Id = ((CustomerMaster)Session["CurrentUser"]).CM_Id ; var activeMeetingReq = (from m in miEntity.MeetingRequest where m.CustomerMaster.CM_Id == intCM_Id && m.Active == true select m); if (activeMeetingReq.Count() > 0) { MeetingRequest meetingReq = activeMeetingReq.First(); return "<a href='" + meetingReq.URI + "'>" + "Connect to Live Meeting</a>"; } else { return ""; } }

  • How can I create users in a ASP.NET membership table without using CreateUser

    - by smdrager
    I want to migrate users and posts from an existing forum I am using to a ASP.NET membership table without using CreateUser. Basically I want to maintain userIDs so that when I migrate posts they continue to associate with the correct users. Is there a way to do this or would I be better off just using CreateUser and then finding a way to re-assign the post-by-UserIDs to the correct new IDs? Thanks

  • ASP.NET MVC, How to get the page content before render

    - by user361993
    In ASP.NET MVC, how to get the page content before render, we know in Web form app, we can override the method protected override void Render(HtmlTextWriter writer) to get the page content before render. but in MVC there are no event concept, so how we can get the page content. the purpose for that is to emphasize(wrap <strong> tag) the keywords before the page rendered. I'd appreciate for any advice. Thank you.

  • ASP.NET Membership for high security scenarios?

    - by Joachim Kerschbaumer
    Hi there, Is the asp.net membership system used over wcf (transport security turned on) enough for high security internet scenarios with thousands of clients spread all over the internet? I'm just evaluating possible solutions and wanted to know if this might fit in this category. If not, what would be the best method to provide high security access over wcf for internet scenarios?

  • Null reference to DataContext when testing an ASP.NET MVC app with NUnit

    - by user252160
    I have an ASP.NET MVC application with a separate project added for tests. I know the plusses and minuses of using the connection to the database when running unit tests, and I still want to use it. Yet, every time when I run the tests with the NUnit tool, they all fail due to my Data Context being null. I heard something about having a separate config file for the tests assembly, but i am not sure whether I did it properly, or whether that works at all.

  • ASP SQL Error Handling

    - by J Harley
    Hello, I am using Classic asp and SQL Server 2005. This is code that works (Provided by another member of Stack Overflow): sqlStr = "USE "&databaseNameRecordSet.Fields.Item("name")&";SELECT permission_name FROM fn_my_permissions(null, 'database')" This code checks what permissions I have on a given database - the problem being - if I dont have permission it throws an error and doesn't continue to draw the rest of my page. Anyone got any ideas on remedying this? Many Thanks, Joel
