  • Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000 Again ! Ubuntu 13.04 x64

    First I have to say that I tried everything written about this concept. The problem is that it stops working randomly in 3 main forms : 1 - sometimes it disconnect from wireless network and reconnect automatically 2 - sometimes it disconnect and wont connect no matter what (needs reboot) 3 - some times it's still connected but cannot ping or surf or whatever. I already tried disabling N mod using these commands : sudo modprobe -r iwlwifi modprobe iwlwifi 11n_disable=1 (or 0, whatever) it didn't help . these are the results of lspci, sudo lshw -C network, Version 4.0 is available at : http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads ... and of course, it's open source, and it's free. And I suggest (strongly) that you also download the free Extension Pack from the same page... Brings USB 2.0 emulation and more!I upgraded the version on my Solaris Express (get that from : http://www.oracle.com/solaris/index.html and follow the Download Solaris Express link on the right) laptop (pfexec pkgrm SUNWvbox and then pfexec pkgadd -d the .pkg in the compressed archive file, and install the extensions from the VBox GUI once it's launched). If you are on an old fashion OS without proper RBAC, replace pfexec by sudo. Which you can also do on Solaris if you really want to. :)I tell you, it's Christmas, for sure!Merry VBox!Gilles.

  • After startup, display reverts to one desktop duplicated on both screens

    I have a Samsung R530 laptop. I'm actually running Linux Mint, which is based on Ubuntu (which is why I thought it would be OK to post this here). I'm now getting exactly the same problem on Ubuntu 10.10. I've got it setup with a secondary LCD monitor, and I've changed the display settings so the laptop screen and monitor are at optimal resolution, with the desktop shared between them. After startup though (typically around 10-30 seconds) the display reverts to 1024 x 768 on both screens, and the display is duplicated (i.e. both screens show the same thing). I think this is something to do with my video card, as I had the same problem when I was running Arch Linux. Any ideas?   • Wifi problems with Ubuntu 13.10

    I should probably say straight off that I am brand new to Ubuntu. I installed 13.10 alongside Windows 7 a couple of days ago and I've managed to clear up all the little problems, apart from with the wifi. My internet is fine using an ethernet cable. I can connect to the wifi, and it tells me that the signal is good, but for the vast majority of the time I can't load anything, and system monitor tells me that I am sending and receiving nothing. The problem is somewhere in Ubuntu. It works fine on Windows 7, my Android phone and all of my flatmates laptops. I know I'm not the only one with this problem, but the fixes I've seen either don't work or I don't understand them enough to carry them out. Help?   • Explaining verity index and document search limits

    As present, we currently have a CF8 standard edition server which have some limitations around verity indexing. According to Adobe Verity Server has the following document search limits (limits are for all collections registered to Verity Server): - 10,000 documents for ColdFusion Developer Edition - 125,000 documents for ColdFusion Standard Edition - 250,000 documents for ColdFusion Enterprise Edition We have now reached a stage where the server wide number of documents indexed exceed 125k. However, the largest verity collection consists of about 25k documents(and this is expected to grow). Only one collection is ever searched at a time. In my understanding, this means that I can still search an entire collection with no restrictions. Is this correct? Or does it mean that only documents that were indexed across all collection prior to reaching the limit are actually searchable? We are considering moving to CF9 standard as a solution to this and to use the Solr solution which has no restrictions. The coldfusionjedi highlights some differences between Verity and Solr. However, before we upgrade I am trying to gain a clearer understanding of this before we commit to an upgrade. Can someone provide me a clear explanation as to what this means and how it actually affects verity searching and indexing?

  • CREATE VIEW called multiple times not creating all views

    Noticing strange behavior in SQL 2005, both Express and Enterprise Edition: In my code I need to loop through a series of values (about five in a row), and for each value, I need to insert the value into a table and dynamically create a new view using that value as part of the where clause and the name of the view. The code runs pretty quickly, but what I'm noticing is that all the values are inserted into the table correctly but only the LAST view is being created. Every time. For example, if the values I'm using are X1, X2, X3, X4, and X5, I'll run the process, open up Mgmt Studio, and see five rows in the table with the correct five values, but only one view named MyView_x5 that has the correct WHERE clause. At first, I had this loop in an SSIS package as part of a larger data flow. When I started noticing this behavior, I created a stored proc that would create the CREATE VIEW statement dynamically after the insert and called EXECUTE to create the view. Same result. Finally, I created some C# code using the Enterprise Library DAAB, and did the insert and CREATE VIEW statements from my DLL. Same result every time. Most recently, I turned on Profiler while running against the Enterprise Edition and was able to verify that the Batch Started and Batch Completed events were being fired off for each instance of the view. However, like I said, only the last view is actually being created. Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening? Or any suggestions about what else to check or profile? I've profiled for error messages, exceptions, etc. but don't see any in my trace file. My express edition is 9.00.1399.06. Not sure about the Enterprise edition but think it is SP2.

    I have two NVidia graphics cards: Quadro NVS 295 (PCI Express, dual DisplayPort outputs) GeForce FX 5200 (PCI, DVI and VGA outputs) I have three identical monitors, two on DisplayPort and one on DVI. I'm on Ubuntu Hardy (and cannot currently dist-upgrade for separate reasons). I use the "nvidia" driver. What's new is the GeForce card and the third monitor. I currently have the dual DisplayPort monitors working fine. What am I missing? How can I make nvidia-settings show my second GPU so I can then configure its monitor?

    I recently got my T500 with a very poor signal Wi-Fi, Thinkpad BGN, a Realtek chipset. I would like to replace my Wi-Fi card with either the Intel WiFi Link 5100 or 5300. However, I read somewhere that Lenovo specfically "whitelist" their Wi-Fi cards to only work with their laptops. I could not find any of the Intel Wi-Fi, moreover any Wi-Fi cards on the Lenovo site. So, I went to hunt around in Amazon and found several sellers. Plus what sort of card do I require? There is a difference between mini cards and the full sized card, though I do not know which one my laptop supports.   • Node.js, Nginx and Varnish with WebSockets

    I'm in the process of architecting the backend of a new Node.js web app that i'd like to be pretty scalable, but not overkill. In all of my previous Node.js deployments, I have used Nginx to serve static assets such as JS/CSS and reverse proxy to Node (As i've heard Nginx does a much better job of this / express is not really production ready). However, Nginx does not support WebSockets. I am making extensive use of Socket.IO for the first time and discovered many articles detailing this limitation. Most of them suggest using Varnish to direct the WebSockets traffic directly to node, bypassing Nginx. This is my current setup: Varnish : Port 80 - Routing HTTP requests to Nginx and WebSockets directly to node Nginx : Port 8080 - Serving Static Assets like CSS/JS Node.js Express: Port 3000 - Serving the App, over HTTP + WebSockets However, there is now the added complexity that Varnish doesn't support HTTPS, which requires Stunnel or some other solution, it's also not load balanced yet (Perhaps i will use HAProxy or something). The complexity is stacking up! I would like to keep things simpler than this if possible. Is it still necessary to reverse proxy Node.js using Nginx when Varnish is also present? As even if express is slow at serving static files, they should theoretically be cached by Varnish. Or are there better ways to implement this?

  • Exchange eMails In A Mailbox Appear To Be Blocked By A Dud Message

    I have a client with an Exchange server on which there are quite a few mailboxes. One mailbox in particular is causing some problems. When an email from a certain address arrives, it appears to prevent Exchange from successfully delivering the email to the Outlook Express inbox. The address in question is from an account with Bigpond, or at least I think it is, I didn't check to see if it was spoofed (only just occurred to me.) Any emails in the queue before the suspect email are delivered, then Express times out. When send/recv is retried those emails are re-received and the process times out again. The process I have for fixing this is to log in to the sever, load Outlook, open the recipients inbox, and delete the suspect email. Then retrying the send/recv on Express successfully retrieves all the messages (except for the deleted message.) This solves the immediate problem, but this has happened several times now, and each time requires the process above to correct it. What I am wondering is if there is anything I can do to fix this permanently. It seems to me that Exchange should reject a dud email message rather than getting stuck. Does anyone know what could be causing this, and how I can fix it?
