• build-helper-maven-plugin add-source does not working when trying to add linked resources

  I am new to maven and hit a problem that looks easy in the first place but I already kept me busy for a whole day about and no way to get it working. First as part of running eclipse:eclipse plugin I create a linked folder like below: <linkedResources> <linkedResource> <name>properties</name> <type>2</type> <location>${PARENT-2-PROJECT_LOC}/some_other_project/properties</location> </linkedResource> <linkedResource> <name>properties/messages.properties</name> <type>1</type> <location>${PARENT-2-PROJECT_LOC}/some_other_project/properties/messages.properties</location> </linkedResource> And then I am adding that folder as a source folder like below: <plugin> <groupId>org.codehaus.mojo</groupId> <artifactId>build-helper-maven-plugin</artifactId> <version>1.7</version> <executions> <execution> <id>add-source</id> <phase>generate-sources</phase> <goals> <goal>add-source</goal> </goals> <configuration> <sources> <source>properties</source> <source>some_real_folder</source> </sources> </configuration> </execution> </executions> </plugin> However when I am looking at the generated .classpath in eclipse the “some_real_folder” is there but the “properties” is not. It looks like by default the build-helper-maven-plugin will check if the folder is there and if it is not it won’t add it. I am using maven 3.0.4 outside eclipse to run the build and I can see in the maven logs something like this: [INFO] Source directory: <some path>\properties added. This is my project structure: project1 \-- properties (this is the real folder) project2 \-- some_real_folder \-- properties (this is the link resource pointing to the project1/properties folder) All I need is to have both "some_real_folder" and the linked resource "properties" added to the .classpath of the project2

• Where in the user profile are the Firefox search engine choices stored?

  We have a large number of user profiles that were created on Ubuntu 10.04 and they had access to Google as a choice in the search bar and Google was the provider for queries typed into the super bar. When logging into these same profiles from Mint 15 client machines, the Google search option does not exist for these users, as is the default for Mint. This setting seems to be user specific, but not a part of the FireFox profile? It seems if it were a part of the FF profile, it would "just work" on Mint for these profiles, so I suspect the configuration may be stored somewhere else in the user's profile? Could someone please tell me where in a user's profile the search engine options are set? We would like to set this once, and then drop this configuration into everyones profile so all of our users don't have to do this manually.

• Keyboard shortcut to quickly jump to the URL address field in Firefox...

  Hi, in Firefox I very often want to quickly enter a new URL in the address field. Therefore it would be very nice to be able to quickly jump to the URL address field with a keyboard shortcut! Today I must move my mouse and place the cursor in that field and also ensure that the current address is selected so I can overwrite it when entering the new URL. Very annoying! I'm sure I'm not the first one to have this need so there is probably a shortcut or an extension that does this already, but I cannot find that information! Thanks in advance, /James

• How to jump through an IP ad in firefox?

  I use firefox with a lot of anti-ad extension, like adblock, NoScript, Ghosty etc. I found this IP 220.191.158.69 always in the list of NoScript, I want to ban this IP. I have checked it, searched it. It is from China telecom damn Ad. I guess NoScript can ban this IP already, but When I do not allow that IP, sometimes a webpage can not be loaded at first time, I need to refresh two or more times. I hate it... So I hope there are some way or browser extensions or script can jump through this damn IP.

• Having trouble with some media while using Firefox in Ubuntu.

  I just started using Firefox in Ubuntu today. While on Twitter, I noticed some avatars not showing up, but just their description as seen in the screen shot below. Any idea what could cause this? Also, I need to d/l Adobe Flash so I can get other media to work online. It gives me the option to d/l it but then takes me to the Flash file with no option to install. Any ideas with this as well?   As I mentioned the problem in the Title line..so no stating here once more.I have been using swiftfox for all other partition os without any problem i.e it works flawlessly on Arch,Fedora,Gentoo( my other OSes) ..but giving trouble in Debian Lenny.... Not yet find any clue. Please throw some light on it.The point is that I have had periodically prune swiftfox/firefox internal database; as well as upgrade and update empirically . • How can I preview various Google services in Firefox?

  With iGoogle shut down I haven't been able to replicate my homepage through other services. I'm not asking for a generic replacement for iGoogle, but how to accomplish a specific use case whether through a third-party dashboard, browser extension, or some DIY solution. I need an interactive Gmail inbox, Gmail Tasks, and Google Calendar in the same Firefox tab. If hosted by a third party, they need to authenticate safely using the Google account that I am logged in with. Other widgets would be useful but I only require those Google services. I'm using Gmail itself for now but there is hardly room for the other widgets in the sidebar. Both Google Sites and igHome won't reliably load the services, especially Tasks. Netvibes requires raw login information for third-party services.

• How can I force Firefox to select the tab to the right on tab close?

  I'm using TMP 0.3.8.2 and a host of other extensions on FF 3.6.3 on OSX 10.6. I've tried disabling all other extensions that might interfere with tab settings but it's hard to keep track of everything because I have literally 60 (about 30 are disabled though) that are on and off in various configurations. I'm wondering if there's a way to FORCE Firefox to select the tab to the right on closing a tab, in such a way that it overrides any other setting anywhere else. I realize the prospects for this are dim. Thanks.

• How to change the audio output device in Firefox or any other modern browser?

  I'm trying to play music through Ventrilo and currently I use Virtual Audio Cable. The way it works is that in foobar2000 (a music playing program) I set the output device in preferences to Virtual Audio Cable. Then in Ventrilo I log in to another name and set the input device to Virtual Audio Cable. This routes the music through the Virtual Audio Cable and allows me to play the music through Ventrilo. However, I would also like to change the output device for Firefox (or any other browser) or "Plugin Container for Firefix" to Virtual Audio Cable so that I could play music from Pandora or YouTube on to Ventrilo. Unfortunately I could not find an option for this anywhere.

• What do you do when you need whole-words search in Firefox?

  Example: I am looking to see if "arg" is a special keyword in Lua. I go to the Lua reference manual at http://www.lua.org/manual/5.1/manual.html. I search for "arg". I find hundreds of occurrences of the word "argument(s)" or "vararg". Any ideas? I know Firefox won't implement whole words as a core feature (something about cluttering up the ui... argh...), and I couldn't find a good addon that implemented this well.

• Is there an easy way to always redirect facebook.com to facebook.com/events/list (Firefox, Osx)

  I often use facebook for communication while working. When I do, I'd rather not see the facebook newsfeed. Unfortunately it's hard to remember to not go to the frontpage and use facebook.com/messages or facebook.com/events. Is there any way to always redirect from the url https://www.facebook.com/ to https://www.facebook.com/events/list? I use firefox on osx. I have tried the redirector addon and I'm not able to make it work, not sure if I'm missing something obvious or if it's outdated/buggy.

I need to run Firefox but it seems like a lot of my clients are still running versions of Firefox 3 (is this an operating system issue? Doesn't Firefox auto-update?) so I need to run 3 plus the latest version to troubleshoot some css issues...

• Program or Firefox plugin to automatically manipulate website HTML using specific rules?

  I have noticed dozens of times how tedious some websites are. Therefore, I need a program, plugin for Firefox, or whatever that does the job - to be able to add some sort of checks to specific websites. For example, the program could search for a regexp pattern, and then do an action according to it. For example if I find some language from the wikipedia page, I would like to move or copy it on top of that languages list. The action wouldn't necessarily have to be applied on the regexp it found: it could issue another regexp search, and if it's found, it would do the actions I want, such as delete a block of other piece of HTML, move it, or copy it to another location.

• Can I make Firefox ignore/interpret font sizes specified in pixels?

  Hi all, I have an 11.1" notebook display with 1366x768 resolution, which gives it a DPI of 141. I'm running GNOME and have configured the DPI. Everything works OK except web browsing - far too many websites specify their font sizes in pixels, which ends up with very small text on a high DPI display. My ideal solution would be for Firefox to interpret an absolute pixel size in terms of normal DPI and display it appropriately for my DPI (eg scale it by 141/96). Obviously this would cause problems on the occasion where graphics had been pixel-aligned with fonts in some way, but I imagine that would cause me far less of a headache than either reading minute text, or scaling the text manually each time. Any suggestions? TIA, Andy

  The bad thing about Flash video was that it required a third-party plugin to play the content. The good thing was I could select which content to play; using the click-to-play feature in Firefox and Chrome. But now that HTML5 video is getting popular, I see a lot of ads popping into view again. They are not only a distraction, they hog resources on my computer and make the fans spin full speed. Is there a way to disable HTML5 audio/video content by default, and enable it only selectively?

  Does anyone know of a Firefox plugin that would enable tab-completion (or some other key sequence like Alt-L) of items in drop-down lists in web forms? e.g. ou<TAB>in<TAB>s<TAB> for 'OurCompany - Internal Support' Vimperator's hints mode makes it very ergonomic to focus the drop-down list with a key sequence like f13 but the keyboard interface to the drop-down list still sucks. I very frequently have to pick items from a very long list with very long common prefixes among the entries (e.g. 30-40 starting with OurCompany -), which renders both the built-in keyboard interface and the mouse pretty slow and unergonomic. I basically want readline support for filling webforms!

• Per-character-set font size in Firefox not working?

  Firefox has a setting (Preferences - Content - Fonts & Colors - Advanced) that is supposed to let you set font preferences for different character sets. I've tried setting larger minimum font sizes for some non-Western character sets (I'm still learning, and have to see extra detail to tell them apart!) and nothing seems to happen. For example, if there's Hangul on a page (like this one), it will show in the same size as the Latin characters around it, even if I set "minimum font size" to 24. Am I misunderstanding how that setting is supposed to work, or does it just not do anything? Is there any other way to blow up only non-Western characters while leaving the letters I know how to read intact?

  Hello, everyone! I want to use some tool (not decided yet, which one) to sync a Firefox instance (more exact: user directory) between two machines. (EDIT: I want really to sync everything in the user-directory) Would you assume, that this is safe? What would happen, if some files are newer on the one machine, and some other files are newer on the other machine? Could this lead to inconsistencies, when, let's say, there are some inter-file references? If general, I don't have good experience with syncing application in both directions. Most applications seem not to be suited for this.

• How do I display the full title bar in Firefox 29?

  With Firefox 29, it no longer displays the full title. For example, in this screen shot here, it only display the beginning of "The New York Times - Breaking News, World News & Multimedia". How can I make it display the whole thing? EDIT (for clarification): I'd like to see the full title of the web page of the tab I am on at all times (hovering the cursor would not work for me). Making the tab full width only works if I have 1 or 2 tabs, but most of the time I have many more tabs so this wouldn't work for me.

  since yesterday my firefox thinks that everyone in belgium speaks flemish. this is a typically american problem: americans NEVER seem to know where languages are spoken (i think they just guess) but for some reason believe that language localization software is cool. it is NOT, it is a curse. so suddenly i no longer have my user interface in english (which was fine) but now in flemish, which looks and reads like a tongue disease and is not even the second language of the area i live in (first language here is german, second is french). how can i change back to english?

• Why my Firefox displays XML files as blank pages?

  Every time I open an XML file, all I get is blank page instead of tag tree. The file itself is correct and loads okay, I can see it via View Source or in the Firebug. I've tried turning off all my addons, but the problem was not solved. All other browsers (Chrome, Opera) render the same file as an XML tree. I'm guessing that I've messed up my configuration somehow and Firefox now tries to render XML files as HTML ones. I've tried googling, but with no success. Help, please?

  The question sounds easy but I could not find a solution using google search. Maybe you have an idea: I am searching for the Firefox setting to bookmark always to the toolbar. If I click CTRL+D the default "Folder" is "Bookmarks Menu". I'd like to have it always "Bookmarks Toolbar", without the need of changing it every time. • Add Free Windows Live Apps to Your Website or Blog

  Would you like to use Hotmail, Office Web Apps, Messenger, and more on your website domain?  Here’s how you can add Windows Live to your website for free. Microsoft offers a popular suite of online communications products including Hotmail and Messenger.  Although Hotmail hasn’t been as popular in recent years as Gmail, it is getting a refresh this summer that might make it an even better email solution.  Additionally, the new Office Web Apps offer great compatibility with Office documents. While Skydrive offers 25Gb of free online file storage for all users, so Windows Live can make a great communications solution for your domain. Note: To signup for Windows Live for your domain, you will need to be able to add info to your WordPress.com blog or change Domain settings manually. Getting Started Open the Windows Live Custom Domains page (Link below) to get started adding Windows Live to your domain.  Your free Windows Live account will let you create up to 500 accounts, so it’s great for teams and groups that want to have customized email addresses in addition to those who just want an email account for their website. Enter your domain or subdomain you want to add to Windows Live in the box, and then select whether you want to setup Hotmail with this or now.  We want to add email to our domain, so select Set up Windows Live Hotmail for my domain and click Continue. You’ll need to sign in with a Windows Live ID to create the account, or choose to create a new Windows Live account associated with your domain.   Sign in with your Windows Live ID…this can be a Hotmail, Live Messenger, XBOX Live, Zune ID, or Microsoft.com account. Or, enter your information to create a new Windows Live ID if you selected the second option. Now, review your settings and make sure everything looks correct.  Click the I Accept button to setup your account.   Your account is now fully setup, but you’ll need to add or edit DNS information on your site.  The steps are slightly different depending if your site is hosted on WordPress.com, on your own server, or hosting service. We’ll show you how to do it on either one. First, though, note the information below this box.  You’ll see settings for your Mail setup…   Security settings…   And Messenger integration.  Make note of the settings, especially the circled ones, as we’ll need them in the next step. Integrate Windows Live with Your WordPress Blog If the domain you added to Windows Live is for your WordPress blog, login to your WordPress dashboard in a separate browser window or tab.  Click the arrow beside Upgrades, and select Domains from the menu. Click the Edit DNS link beside the domain name you’re adding to Windows Live. In the text box on this page, enter the following, replacing Your_info with your code from the Mail Setup box in your Windows Live Dashboard.  Note that this is the blurred section in our screenshots.  It should be a numerical code like 1234567890.pamx1.hotmail.com. MX 10 Your_info.pamx1.hotmail.com. TXT v=spf1 include:hotmail.com ~all CNAME Your_info domains.live.com. Click Save DNS records, and your settings are saved to WordPress.  Note that this will only integrate email with your WordPress account; you cannot integrate Messenger with a domain hosted on WordPress.com. Finally, return to your Windows Live Settings page and click Refresh.  If your settings are correct, you’ll now be ready to use Windows Live on your WordPress.com domain. Integrate Windows Live with Your Own Server If your website is hosted on your own server or hosting account, you’ll need to take a few more steps to add Windows Live to your domain.  This is fairly easy, but the steps may be different depending on your hosting company or registrar.  With some hosts, you may have to contact support to have them add the MX records for you.  Our site’s host uses the popular cPanel for website administration, so here’s how we added the MX Entries through cPanel. Login to your website’s cPanel, and select MX Entry under the Mail section. In the text box on this page, enter the following, replacing Your_info with your code from the Mail Setup box in your Windows Live Dashboard.  Note that this is the blurred section in our screenshots.  It should be a numerical code like 1234567890.pamx1.hotmail.com. MX 10 Your_info.pamx1.hotmail.com. Now, go back to your cPanel home, and select Advanced DNS Zone Editor under Domains. Here, add a TXT record with the following info: Name: yoursite.com. TTL: 3600 TXT Data: v=spf1 include:hotmail.com ~all Click Add Record and your Mail integration data is all configured. To integrate Messenger with your own domain, you’ll have to add an SRV entry to your DNS settings.  cPanel doesn’t have an option for this, so we had to contact our site’s hosting company and they added the entry for us.  Copy all of the information in the Messenger box and send it to your domain support, and they should be able to add this for you.  Alternately, if you don’t want or need Messenger, then you can simply skip this step. Once all of your settings are in place, return to your Windows Live Settings page and click Refresh.  If your settings are correct, you’ll now be ready to use Windows Live on your WordPress.com domain. Create a New Email Account On Your Domain Welcome to your new Windows Live admin page!  Now you can add email accounts so you and anyone else you want can access Hotmail and the other Windows Live apps with your domain.  Click Add to add an account. Enter an account name, which will be the email address of the account, e.g. [email protected].  Then enter the user’s name and a password for the account.  By default this will be a temporary password, and the user will have to change it on first log-in, but if you’re setting up this account for yourself, you can uncheck the box and keep this as your standard password. Now, go to www.mail.live.com, and sign in with your new email address and password.  Remember, your email address is your username previously entered followed by @yourdomain.com. To finish setting up the email account, enter your password, secret question and answer, alternate email, and location information.  Click I accept to finish setting up your new email account. Enter the characters in the Captcha to confirm you’re a human, and click Continue. Your new Hotmail inbox will now load, and you’ll have a welcome email in your inbox.  This works the same as normal Hotmail, except this time, your email address is with your own domain. You can now access any of the Windows Live services from the top-level menu. Here’s an Excel Spreadsheet open in the new Office Web Apps via SkyDrive on our new Windows Live account. If you setup Messenger access previously, you can now sign in to Windows Live Messenger using your new @yourdomain.com account as well. Important Links Accessing your Windows Live accounts is easy.  Simply go to any Windows Live site, such as www.hotmail.com or www.skydrive.com, and sign in with your new Windows Live ID from your domain as normal.  You don’t need a special address to access your account; it works just like the standard public Hotmail accounts. To administer your Windows Live for your domain, go to https://domains.live.com/ and sign in with the Windows Live ID you used to create the account.  Here you can add more users, change settings, and view usage details for the Windows Live accounts on your domain. Conclusion Windows Live is easy to add to your domain, and lets you create up to 500 email address for it.  With the upcoming updates to Hotmail and Office Web Apps coming this summer, this can be a nice way to make your domain even more useful.  And with 500 email accounts, you can easily let your team take advantage of your unique address as well. • How to future-proof my touch-enabled web application?

  I recently went out and purchased a touch-screen monitor with the intention of learning how to program touch-enabled web applications. I had reviewed the MDN documentation about touch events, as well as the W3C specification. To get started, I wrote a very short test page with two event handlers: one for the mousedown event and one for the touchstart event. I fired up the web page in IE and touched the document and found that only the mousedown event fired. I saw the same behavior with Firefox, only to find out later that Firefox can be set to enable the touchstart event using about:config. When touch events are enabled, the touchstart event fires, but not mousedown. Chrome was even stranger: it fired both events when I touched the document: touchstart and mousedown, in that order. Only on my Android phone does it appear to be the case that only the touchstart event fires when I touch the document. I did a a Google search and ended up on two interesting pages. First, I found the page on CanIUse for touch events: http://caniuse.com/#feat=touch Can I Use clearly indicates that IE does not support touch events as of this writing, and Firefox only supports touch events if they are manually enabled. Furthermore, all four browsers I mentioned treat the touch in a completely different way. It boils down to this: IE: simulated mouse click Firefox with touch disabled: simulated mouse click Firefox with touch enabled: touch event Chrome: touch event and simulated mouse click Android: touch event What is more frustrating is that Google also found a Microsoft page called RethinkIE. RethinkIE brags about touch support in IE; as a matter of fact, one of their slogans is "Touch the Web". It links to a number of touch-based application. I followed some of these links, and as best I can tell, it's just like CanIUse described; no proper touch support; just simulated mouse clicks. The MDN (https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Touch) and W3C (http://www.w3.org/TR/touch-events/) documentation describe a far richer interface; an interface that doesn't just simulate mouse clicks, but keeps track of multiple touches at once, the contact area, rotation, and force of each touch, and unique identifiers for each touch so that they can be tracked individually. I don't see how simulated mouse clicks can ever touch the above described functionality, which, once again, is part of the W3C specification, although it is listed as "non-normative", meaning that a browser can claim to be standards-compliant without implementing it. (Why bother making it part of the standard, then?) What motivated my research is that I've written an HTML5 application that doesn't work on Android because Android doesn't fire mouse events. I'm now afraid to try to implement touch for my application because the browsers all behave so differently. I imagine that at some time in the future, the browsers might start handling touch similarly, but how can I tell how they might be handled in the future short of writing code to handle the behavior of each individual browser? Is it possible to write code today that will work with touch-enabled browsers for years to come? If so, how?
