• How can one change the primary key using NHibernate.

  Dear ladies and sirs. I want to change the primary key of an entity in database, so that all the relevant foreign key constraints are updated as well./We are using NHibenate as our ORM. Is it possible to do it? Thanks. P.S. I know the practice of changing the primary key is highly discouraged. My problem is that my primary key is backed by a natural Id of the entity, which may sometimes change. We could, theoretically, utilize a unique primary key, unrelated to the natural key of the entity, but this complicates things too much in other places, so this is not an option.

• Mono on OS X Compatible with MSVC 2010 peers?

  I'm to begin .NET development at work but have the option of using MonoDevelop/Mono on OS X instead of MSVC 2010 on Windows and would prefer it because of my familiarity with OS X. We are likely going to use a number of popular frameworks, such as NHibernate and Castle DI - my question to those of you familiar with .NET development and Mono: will I be at much of a disadvantage? Are there strong incompatibilities or, with some "paper cuts", the two systems are roughly compatible? Again, my colleagues will be using MSVC 2010 and we intend on working on the same codebases together. Thanks for any insight you can give to this .NET newbie. EDIT: I should note I'll primarily be doing development with MVC 2, which I understand does work with Mono, and will have some leeward in choosing frameworks, i.e. I can avoid highly incompatible frameworks.

• Configuring log4j at runtime

  I'm using org.apache.tools.ant.listener.Log4jListener to manage logging with my ant script. The ant script is highly configurable and designed to be run different ways with different parameters and therefore I need to be able to log to files specified at runtime. I have a log4j.properties which specifies a log file to be build.log, and despite my attempts to launch ant redefining properties defined in log4j.properties have been unsuccessful. The build ignores them and continues to write to build.log. I haven't found much support regarding writing to custom files unless it's in Java with their Logger class. Perhaps I'm thinking this through wrong. log4j.properties isn't treated in the same way as a property file in an ant script (hence overrideable from the command line)? Is there a way I can do this intelligently without writing a custom task or something?

  The language shortcut public string Code { get; set; } saves a bit of typing when defining trivial properties in C#. However, I find myself writing highly repetitive, not-quite-as-trivial property code that still follows a clear pattern e.g. public string Code { get { return code; } set { if (code != value) { code = value; NotifyPropertyChanged("Code"); } } } I can certainly define a Visual Studio snippet to reduce typing. However, if I need to add something to my pattern, I have to go back and change quite a bit of existing code. Is there a more elegant approach? Is a snippet the best way to go?

• Trouble using xib files in libraries

  Hi there, I'm having some trouble working with libraries and included xib files. Let me explain my situation first. I've got a project that's running pretty good. Now I need a part of my project as a library for another customer who want's to use some of the functionality in his app. I've created a library with help of that highly recommended article. My customer should be able to initialize a main view controller like this: LibraryMainViewController *lmvc = [[LibraryMainViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"LibraryMainViewController.xib" bundle:foo]; That for sure leads to an error when I try to present that view controller modally. I'm not sure what bundle I have to use here. I tried something like [NSBundle bundleForClass:[SomeClassInTheLibrary class]]; but that didn't solve the problem. I would be glad if someone could tell me how to actually use a xib file in that kind of situation. Thanks –f

• How to run a .class file in Windows 7 OS?

  Hi, This is probably a stupid question, but how do I run a class file on windows 7? I usually create my own .java files and then use a basic IDE (with JDK6) to compile it to a class and run it automatically. My professor gave a .class file that we are supposed to play with extensively but I have no idea how to to run it here. Note that I cannot run it by typing: java classname.class because it contains gui stuff especially buttons and such. • Is it possible to add .NET code (sections) to a WordPress site?

  Our shop is primarily .NET but because of the lack of any really good popular .NET CMS products, we have chosen to use WordPress (and Drupal at times) for our public facing sites. I realize this is highly subjective, but it is the conclusion we came to for our purposes. One could certainly make a case for DotNetNuke and others, but that is another conversation. I would like to know if I can integrate small components into WordPress sites, primarily to do simple forms (logon, lost password, contact us, change user settings, etc...) Can I do this with an iFrame or another method that I am not thinking about?

  I'm using Google Chrome for this test: Contrary to intuition, the first loop alerts "string" 3 times, while the second loop alerts "number" 3 times. numarray = [1, 2, 3]; //for-each loop for(num in numarray) alert(typeof(num)); //standard loop for(i=0; i<numarray.length; i++) alert(typeof(numarray[i])); I was expecting both loops to alert "number" 3 times. How is the first loop implemented in Javascript? In other words, if the for-each is syntactic sugar, what is its equivalent using a standard loop? Also, is there some way to iterate over an object's namespace using a standard loop? I'm looking to touch every one of some object's methods and attributes using a loop of the second kind. I'm new to Javascript and any help is highly appreciated, thanks.

• Finding the most similar numbers across multiple lists in Python

  In Python, I have 3 lists of floating-point numbers (angles), in the range 0-360, and the lists are not the same length. I need to find the triplet (with 1 number from each list) in which the numbers are the closest. (It's highly unlikely that any of the numbers will be identical, since this is real-world data.) I was thinking of using a simple lowest-standard-deviation method to measure agreement, but I'm not sure of a good way to implement this. I could loop through each list, comparing the standard deviation of every possible combination using nested for loops, and have a temporary variable save the indices of the triplet that agrees the best, but I was wondering if anyone had a better or more elegant way to do something like this.   I am trying to avoid building two buttons when I really need one. In my Silverlight app scenarios, I have few grids with a different content and buttons that control the visibility of these grids. I need to be able to show a different visual for a button when its content grid is visible. I can control states such as MouseOver and Pressed and more with visual state manage. However, I am not sure how to achieve this functionality with. I also can place an image on top of the button and switch the visibility of both but it is not perfect for what I need. I am wondering if there is any way to achieve this behavior. Any ideas are highly appreciated!

  Hello, I have a small query. I need to create a Caching Service of my own that will write and read .NET Objects to and from the Database. Now, I have achieved that with the help of Binary Serialization. But the Problem is I need to deliberately marked my objects as [Serializable], which makes me think that what if someone will try to add an object which is not marked as [Serializable]. Thus, I need to find a way to read and write Objects to Database without Serialization. I have one thought too.. As we all know Session can store any object in it. Now, we can make sessions to be stored in the DB, outproc. What mechanism it uses to store these objects without serializing or deserializing. Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks. M.B

  Hi, I've been searching around the web for an answer to this one, but was unable to find an answer, on the other side I think it's something quite common thus there is a possibility I'm missing some keywords here. Anyhow, the problem is as follows: When is control given to a callback function in ObjC (iPhone)? Does it happen after control is given to a high up in the hierarchy class responsible for the runloop? Can it occur in the middle of another function call being executed? As an example, let's take the NSURLConnection, we don't know or can't predict when it's going to call didReceiveResponse or the other callback methods, can it be the case that didReceiveResponse get's called when I'm in the middle of another function? (highly doubt that but was unable to find information on callbacks wating for the end of the run loop) Cheers, Kaspa

  Hi, I tried to turn on the Activity Monitor using SQL Server 2008 Management Studio (SSMS) through the options window of the application (Tools | Options | Environment | General | At Startup). I restarted SSMS and I am getting the following message: "This operation does not support connections to Microsoft SQL Server Standard Edition version 8.00.2249." I need to be able to monitor the processes and activities inside the database since I am investigating a particular application which takes a lot of time in its database data retrieval access and I am thinking it may be due to some locks or some processes.   Say I have some highly-visited front-page, which displays number of some items by categories. When some item is added / deleted I need to invalidate this front-page/url and some 2 others. What is the best practice how to invalidate those urls from backend in Varnish (4.x)? From what I captured, I can: implement my HTTP PURGE handler in VCL configuration file, that "bans" urls matching received regex from backend to Varnish, send 3x HTTP PURGE requests for those 3 urls. But is this approach safe for this automatic usage? Basicly I need to invalidate some views everytime some related entity is inserted/updated/deleted. Can it lead to ban list cumulation and increasing CPU consumption? Is there any other approach? Thanks.

  Halo, i am interest in methods, which http analyzer uses to capture data. I would like to write program which saves emails sent via web based clients. The problem is https and HTTP Analyzer solves it, but i dont know how. I got one interesting answer on my question before, but it doesnt reveal as much as i would like to know. Programs like HTTP Analyzer can catch the HTTPS data because they insert themselves in the HTTPS stack. As a result, they get the data after it's generated but before it's being encrypted and put in IP packets. This is highly non-trivial. How it is possible to make? If you have any interesting articles solving this issue, please let me know.

  i got an idea for making php template engine fast and user friendly but i'm not sure if it's good or bad. the idea is to create a fake template engine: creating a template editor in control panel that let user see something like this: <html> <head> <title>{title}</title> </head> <body> {content} </body> </html> what the editor actually does is to replace all php code like <?php echo $this->title; ?> to user friendly {title} but it's not really replacing it just in the view when the user save the template the template actually saved as fast pure php template. the question is this a good idea or bad ? your answers is highly appreciated.
