  When looking to improve Virtual Machine performance what would be better ... Increasing the available RAM or increasing the processor power? Here is my choice ... Core 2 Duo @ 2.4 GHz with 8 GB RAM and integrated graphics (Mac Book Pro 13") Core i7 @ 2.6 GHz with 4 GB RAM and 512 MB dedicated graphics (Mac Book Pro 15") I plan to run Windows x64 in the VM with SQL Server 2008, Visual Studio 2010, and SharePoint 2010. I am planning to run VMWare Fusion v3. I also didn't know if a dedicated graphics card makes a difference when using a Virtual Machine. Thank you.

• Why my new GTX 660m's clock drops drastically after running few seconds

  I bought a Lenovo Y580 laptop few days ago, this model is equipped with GTX 660m graphics card. However, the game performance is unbelievably poor since it out from the box. I realized there is something wrong with this graphics card. I downloaded GPU-z, and did a simple test. And I was shocked by the fact that my GTX 660m graphics card is running at 135.0mhz core clock. (It should be 835mhz at least!) Even the integrated graphics card "Intel HD graphics 4000" can run at 650mhz. Further examining showed that in the first few seconds GTX 660m was actually running at 835mhz, however the core temperature quickly reached 90+°C and the clock (maybe) automatically drop to 135.0mhz. This is very strange. Anyone has any idea what's going on here?

  I just migrated a development workstation FROM: Windows XP Pro SP3 with IIS 6 TO: Vista Enterprise 64bit with IIS 7 Since the move, one of my pages that accesses an SQL Server 2000 database is receiving the following error from my ASP.NET 2.0 web page: "Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'." I have: enabled Windows Authentication in IIS and web.config disabled Anonymous Authentication in IIS set up Impersonation to run as the authenticated user verified that the logged in user (in this case, me) has access to the appropriate database on the SQL Server verified that my login and impersonation information is correct in the ASP.NET page by checking User.Identity.Name and System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Name (both display my username) My connection string using SqlConnection is "Server={SERVER_NAME};Database={DB_NAME};Integrated Security=SSPI;Trusted_Connection=True;" Why is it trying to login with NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGIN? I have to assume it's some setting or web.config entry specific to IIS7 since it worked fine before the migration. NOTE: The SQL Server is Windows authentication only - no mixed mode or SQL only.

• Error installing Windows7 64 bits on VirtualBox

  I am trying to set up Windows in Virtual Box, so I don't need to reboot in the rare occasion that I actually need it. The problem is, Virtual Box doesn't preform any errors when I insert the 32bit installation CD but when I try to use the 64bit installation; What!? I am already using the installation disc! I've checked my BIOS to see if I have SVM (AMD's version of VT) disabled and all I see is "Enabled" I have a K9N6PGM2-V2 motherboard A Triple Core AMD Athlon II A Nvdia NForce 430 integrated graphics card 4GB of RAM An 80GB IDE And a 1TB SATA I don't think the last three specifications matter but just in case XP I am pretty sure the CD isn't broken ( I am going to make sure in just a moment ), what could be the cause to this problem? Edit: The 64bit installation CD is not broken, but I found out when trying to install from the 32bit version that it's trying to upgrade, not preform a fresh install - Odd.

  have a server 2003 domain controller i have installed active directory integrated dns under the forward lookup zone for domain_name.local i see an APIPA ip address that is set for (same as parent folder) with ip number 169.x.x.x looks like (same as parent folder) Host A 169.x.x.x (apipa subnet range) problem is, from other forums that i have read, that this is due to dual nics and one on that is not getting a dynamic or static ip address BUT... I only have one nic in this server? where could this be coming from and could it mess up other settings or not allowing the DC to be contacted? i am just wondering what symptoms could arise due to the record being there. any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

It is ok if the CMS can also manage HTML websites, but the priority is on the data transfer over a web service. Which is the best CMS to use here?   We are setting up TACACS+ in our network which is a mix of Cisco AP's and other brands. However we have a centralized managemnet system which allows our customers to centrally configure services. Hence we would like to setup a tacacs+ server integrated with some database. Can this be done? I found the following package at www.shrubbery.net/tac_plus/ but it does not have the necessary plugins for database. Please let me know how to go about this. TIA Sachin

• Dell Dimension running Fedora12 does a "Sleeping Beauty" and I am not a "handsome prince"!

  Dell Dimension 2350 with a Pentium IV processor and integrated video and network chips running Fedora12 does a "Sleeping Beauty" and I, apparently, am not am not a "handsome prince"! The system puts video and network to sleep and it will not wakeup. I have heard of this problem on laptops, but this is a tower. Any ideas or help is appreciated. I tried to ping the network card from another system and ping fails. The logs indicate that the system continues to be active. Pressing keyboard short-cut keys makes the disk light blink but neither the video or network card comes alive. Failing all else, are there any Linux commands that I could schedule in cron to pulse video and network adapters hourly that will keep them awake? Or, should I wait on Fedora13? Before this machine, I built a Dimension 2400 with Pentium IV and it had the same problem. Fedora9 on the same hardware is fine.

• How do multiple displays work on a AMD 785G / ATI HD 4200 motherboard?

  I just ordered a ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO which has the AMD 785G chipset and HD4200 integrated graphic. The board has VGA, DVI, and HDMI outputs. I'm wondering how many outputs I can run at once, and from what connectors? My guess is that I can only use the VGA, and either the DVI or the HDMI in a dual setup. But not the HDMI and the DVI at the same time. Is this correct? If I have devices plugged into both the HDMI and the DVI ports is there a way to choose between which port I want to use? I have a dual 19" monitor setup, as well as a LCD TV. I'd like to run the VGA and the DVI into my two monitors, and then the HDMI to my TV. Then when I want to watch something on the TV I'd like to be able to switch over from the DVI to the HDMI. Is this possible with out crawling under my desk and unplugging/plugging things in?

  We've started to see instances on our Intranet server where for any page the server just responds with the error page 'HTTP/1.1 New Session Failed'. It seems we can fix it by running IISRESET but this feels like we're only treating the symptom. The server is a virtualised server running IIS6 on Windows Server 2003 with 0.5Gb of RAM. Our Intranet is written in ASP, but we also have ASP.NET 2.0 applications running on the web site. The site is set up for Anonymous and Integrated Authentication. What causes IIS to get into this error state? Could the server be saturated with requests i.e. we need to scale out and move some applications onto another server? I've seen KB210842 but I'm not sure it applies as that is applicable to IIS 4

  I'm using a code-first approach of using the Entity Framework. When I first run the application it will try to create the database matching my MVC models. However, it doesn't have permission to create it I think. I get the following error: CREATE DATABASE permission denied in database 'master'. What user is trying to access the SqlServer and how can I add it's permissions to let it work?   I recently formatted an HP G62 Laptop and installed all drivers from the HP site that should be installed for this model. But i noticed a very strange behavior, using Coretemp, the temp is always above 50 (on idle) and reaches 70 very quickly sometimes (Critical is 90) If i open youtube or skype alone, i can get temperatures as high as 83. Normally it was around 32 (on idle) and reaches 70 when i open games but not youtube.... I have a i3 processor and AMD graphics so i am wondering if somehow it's a graphics card issue (since i3 has integrated graphics as far as i know) Device manager shows only AMD graphics card tho, not sure if i3 graphics should appear here too. Any ideas what i might have forgotten to do after the format ?

• IIS 7 - Application pools

  I made a CompanySite website in IIS - it's the only website on that server. I created .NET 4 Integrated pool for that website. I've installed ASP.Net site into CompanySite and it works fine. Now I'd like to install an application within this site. I create another .NET 4 application pool for that application. Then I install application into CompanySite using that application pool. As soon as setup starts off the website goes offline either with 503 or with The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred. The only way to fix this (that I have found) is to uninstall that application and restart Windows Server, not just IIS server. Question is how can I install multiple applications within a single site? THank you

• Looking for a free or open-source burner emulator [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Virtual CDR driver I am looking for a free or open-source virtual CD/DVD emulator to run in a Windows environment. What I want is similar to what SlySoft's Virtual Clone Drive or Daemon Tools provides, but the emulated drive needs to be a burner of some type. The burner should be able to save disc images (.iso, .ccd, etc) to my harddrive - basically, the same as if I burned the files to a CD-R, and then ripped them back to a disc image. I have already looked around some and come across 2 - DVD neXt COPY iTurns and NoteBurner M4P. Both of these programs create a virtual CD-RW drive, but they are integrated into their product (for burning from iTunes to create mp3 files) and cannot create disc images. I am currently writing a piece of software that will have the capability to burn disc images onto CDs/DVDs, and I don't want to end up with a 100 coasters while I'm testing my software. • Dell 2950 Perc 6/i "physical disk" and "Enclosure(Backplane)" under Connector 1 in OMSA tree- Troubleshoot help

  Just looking for someone who might know why this could occur... In OMSA, on my Dell 2950, there usually is only one "Physical Disks" child under "Enclosure (Backplane)" in the tree view. Currently, the tree looks like this: Dell PERC 6/i Integrated Connector 1 (RAID) Enclosure (Backplane) Physical Disks (1:04 good, 1:05 removed) Physical Disks (1:33 Ready but unused) Normally it's like this: Connector 1 (RAID) Enclosure (Backplane) Physical Disks (1:04 good, 1:05 good) From the front, 6 of 6 3.5" SAS drives are connected. The server is showing Slot 5 as bad and the disk as removed. It seems that the drive in Slot 5 is being sensed as external to the Enclosure. Any ideas why this would happen? Think I can get away with rebuilding the virtual disk by replacing 1:05 with 1:33? Thanks.

I recently got my hands on a MSA50 SAS Enclosure (10 x SAS HDD bays w/ SAS in/out interface) and wondering what you guys recommended as far as an addon raid controller for one of the pciex slots. I have both slots free Full and Half sizes. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, I am an I.T.   Should USB controller drivers be updated? In Windows 7, many of the core system devices/buses/controllers still use stock Microsoft drivers dating back to 2006 -- things such as USB controllers and the PCI bus (and subsequent devices in the tree). Should these be getting updated? I would think that surely there would have been improvements/fixes/updates to some or any of these drivers by now, now over 7 years old. Does Windows know "best" in this case, updating these respective drivers when it's needed, or should the user be keeping an eye out for drivers in this "vein" of devices (meaning integrated/core/non-pluggable system devices that are built into the motherboard)?

• Will Bluetooth hands-free drivers be installed if BT stack doesn't support A2DP?

  I have a hands-free device which has no problems being paired with windows and I can set it to be the default sound output device, I don't actually hear anything on the unit, but it worked fine with GNU/Linux and with my mobile phone. From what I can see, the cause of that is usually a problem with Bluetooth stack. I think that I have Broadcom Bluetooth stack installed, so it should be working but it isn't. To make things better, my Bluetooth radio is integrated into my laptop and manufacturer isn't providing drivers for it and Broadcom itself recently pulled support, so I can't just reinstall the stack to make sure I have newest version.

• Nvidia Optimus shows Nvidia card is always active in Windows 8

  I have loaded the new Asus Nvidia driver for my Asus Ux32VD that I have installed Windows 8 on. It has an Nvidia 620m and Intel hd 4000 integrated graphics. The problem is that the Optimus activity icon in my system tray shows that the Nvidia card is always active, though it shows that it is not doing anything. I can force the system to prefer the Intel graphics, and after rebooting, the Nvidia card will shut off, but then all the programs will be overridden and use the Intel graphics. Is anyone else having problems with Optimus in Windows 8? My battery life is really suffering because I'm always idling my Nvidia card while also presumably running the Intel card. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

• How can I disable DPMS temporarily in X under a modern linux?

  Historically if you wanted to control blanking and DPMS in X, you could do it with xset. Issuingxset -dpms on my laptop results in xset q returning "DPMS is Disabled", as it should. But my screens still turn off. I'm running an up-to-date Arch Linux using KMS with integrated Intel graphics, I'm not running GNOME or willing to use anything that needs something like it. I am however stuck with DBUS and HAL. I've tried fiddling with the various timeouts, and it hasn't helped - specifically, changing the timeouts seems to be able to turn off the screen sooner, but not stop it from turning off :) This makes me suspect that there's something else overriding the setting. Is there any way to get xset to actually function as it used to, or at least stop lying to me? Note that I don't want to permanently disable DPMS or blanking - just to be able to control it when I need to.

  This might sound ridiculous, but my eyes are tired of looking at the crappy font rendering in OS X's Terminal.app, is there anything you guys recommend? I know it's like one of those things that you can easily say, "It's shell! what more can you ask for!" but really, all these great methods for rendering fonts and anti-aliasing, and we developers haven't even integrated that into our most trusty tool... at least that I know of. Anyhow, let's discus shell alternatives, thoughts?

• cannot add a user to sysadmin role in SQL Server

  Hello everyone, I am using SQL Server 2008 Management Studio. The current logon account belongs to machine local administrator group. I am using Windows Integrated Security mode in SQL Server 2008. My issue is, after log into SQL Server Management Studio, I select my login name under Security/Logins, then select Server Roles Tab, then select the last item -- sysadmin to make myself belong to this group/role, but it says I do not have enough permission. Any ideas what is wrong? I think local administrator should be able to do anything. :-) thanks in advance, George

• Changing LDAP schema casts Confluence AD integration unoperable

  I have had our instance of Atlassian Confluence configured to be integrated with our Active Directory. In AD, all the users were being created under default Users folder in Active Directory Users and Computers. We have decided to introduce cleaner separation and have created an Organizational Units structure in AD. Under root we have created Managed OU, and under it - Users OU and all user accounts were moved under Users OU. Now I though that to let the Confluence AD integration engine "know" where to look for user accounts now, I only need to adjust the BaseDN and prepand it with ou=Managed so it is aware that it is looking for cn=Users but under ou=Managed. That didn't work. How should I adjust LDAP schema root in a client application for it to be able to look for users in OU that then in a default folder.
