• Enforce VPN connection to access the Internet

  I'm using a VPN when I'm online at an unencrypted wifi. Unfortunately, at my university the connection is quite unstable and at every reconnect the VPN connection is terminated and I manually need to reconnect to it using the NetworkManager, which obviously only works if I notice the reconnect. I enabled the option to automatically connect to the VPN in the NM options, but it seems to have no effect. Is there a way to enforce an active VPN connection before any other application can access the network connection so I can be sure not to send private data over unencrypted connections?   I've installed the beta version of Ubuntu 10.04 server edition (x64), but the system doesn't have an internet connection. Is there a way I can find out what packages are in the apt repository with nothing more than a web browser? The reason I'm asking, is because I will have an internet connection available when the production system goes live, but it simply isn't possible to internet connect my development system.

  I can connect to my house's wireless network just fine, but when I'm connected I can't browse the web. Firefox starts connecting to a site and then just poops out. This doesn't happen on my roommates' computers (running Windows) or on our 3DSes, so I know it's just my laptop. • I see files in filezilla, but the internet denies their existance

  I am doing some updates to a 10-year old site, and I am baffled. Everything worked great locally, so I uploaded a bunch of stuff to the server using filezilla. Within filezilla I can see all of the files, but for some reason I get a 404 when trying to view them. It seems as though (at least for the folder Im currently checking) this is happening for items which are "farther down the list" alphabetically. I tried to re-upload a file individually but it didn't change anything. Is this an indication that I hit some sort of limit with the hosting company? And if so why can I still view the files from filezilla? Please offer guidance. I am at a loss.

• Unable to print login-required images in IE

  I have some images in a section of a site that require the user to be logged in in order to view. These images are served by a PHP script, which checks the user's login state and if valid, serves the binary data with the appropriate headers. This all works fine. The issue comes when a user tries to print one of these images. In Internet Explorer, when they go to print preview they get the broken image box with a red cross in the corner instead of the actual file. This is what gets printed also. All other browsers can print the images without issue. I have some images elsewhere on the site that are also served via. PHP but these don't require a login. These print fine. The PHP-powered HTML pages on the site that require a login also print fine in IE. It's just login-required images. The user hitting print preview does not seem to result in additional HTTP request to the server for the file. However I do see an additional HTTP request a few seconds later that comes from the same IP (may or may not be related), This request includes no host header, no REQUEST_URI and no user agent. The 'please login' page sends an appropriate 403 header. I've also added a far-in-future expires header to the image response itself to ensure that browsers can serve/print the files from their own cache but this hasn't made any difference. Why can't IE print the images and what else can I do to investigate or fix the problem?

• 14.04 LTS, 32-bit, Software Updater error "Failed to download repository information: Check your internet connection"

  There isn't much to say about this one: when I run Software Updater, I get the above error message. That can't be good. Interestingly, when I click on "Settings..." and then close the settings dialogue that pops up, all of a sudden Software Updater successfully finds updates and installs them. I thought I should bring this to the attention of the Ubuntu community. sudo apt-get update returns the following: W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/deluge-team/ppa/ubuntu/dists/trusty/main/binary-i386/Packages 404 Not Found E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead. I have screen captures, but I don't have enough reputation points to post them.

• Is there an easy way to configure an Ubuntu system to function as a proxy/file server from behind an NAT?

  Sorry for the long question, but the situation/desire is quite complex. Here is my setup: I have a laptop which I carry around everywhere and I have a desktop sitting at home, connected to the internet through a router using NAT. My objective is to create a connection from my laptop to my desktop that can allow me to (in order of priority): Use the desktop as a proxy server Access files on the desktop remotely Control said desktop from the laptop using VNC or similar. Now here is the scene. I have already looked up and tried several ways to achieve the above goals. Teamviewer - I used it and didn't like it. This is not an option. SSH - This seems ideal, I have figured a way to use this for both proxy and file sharing. However, I am currently unable to connect it due to the NAT. I have a separate thread trying to get that to work here. VPN - I've figured out how to use this method for proxy, but not file sharing. However this faces the same problem as the above: I can't get it to connect through the NAT. Does anyone have any other solutions for what I want? Otherwise, if there are solutions to connecting through the NAT, please tell me (in the other thread). Thanks

• Diagnosing Bootstrap 3 Glyphicon Button Icons Not Showing

  I have a glyphicons in Bootstrap 3. They work very nicely here: latest Chrome latest Firefox latest Safari latest Explorer latest Android At one facility, the glyphicons don't show. The buttons come up blank. How do I troubleshoot? They are security sensitive there. I don't have systems or network access.. and am not in a position to request that. Troubleshooting with advanced tools isn't going to happen. Here's what I have access to: Internet Explorer 9 Behind a very secure firewall Sometimes, I think the glyphs not showing is the IE 9.. but my code should be addressing that. Sometimes, I think their firewall is blocking the CDN. Can I enter a URL into a browser to test if the CDN is there? Sometimes, I think my FB share and like buttons upset this facilty's firewall, and they tie the whole thing down. Any suggestions at how I begin to research this? Or maybe you have an outright idea for IE 9 and glyphs (though my code is very-very close to the demo's which work).

  Hello... very good day everybody! I'm having some problems regarding the Ubuntu 12.4.01 LTS. For this reason, cordially i ask everyone's help. Such problems can be summed up in network (01) and audio (02)! 01) I can not set a DSL network settings in the "upper bar" (on side the clock). When i create the connection, the system says that the cables modem are disconnected! I can only use the internet if i set up a connection at terminal through the command "pppoeconf".   I already bought a domain name .com on godaddy for my company. I would like to reserve the same name with country specific domain extention, but not sure where to buy them and how to do it. More recently, I want to do something similar for some of my files. Tho they are not very confidential, I wish that I am the only one viewing it. I thought of doing the same, Create a robots.txt User-agent: * Disallow: / Setup some password protection, .htpasswd seems like a very ugly way to do it. It will prompt me even when I log into FTP. I wonder if software method like password protected posts in Wordpress will do the trick of locking out the public and hiding content from Search Engines? Or some self made PHP script will do the trick?

  It seems that recently I have to turn off and then turn on my router every time I want to connect my laptop(s) to the internet. This is what's happens: When I want to connect to the internet on my laptop, the network icon in the system tray states that I am connected to the wireless network but there's no "internet connectivity" I turn off the router and turn it back on and then I can connect to the internet.   I've already search for similar problems but they are so different from mine. these are the drivers http://db.tt/qFZlD5JD I'm having problem with this Additional Drivers once I click the Activate button it will start in downloading and installing but after that it will say Installation failed. Then the "Enable Wireless" will not be available. With the Software Modem issue is the same problem with the Broadcom. These drivers are working on Ubuntu 9 and 11 if I'm not mistaken. Only on 12.04 is not working. One more thing these drivers will enable the Huawei E165g E220. I've already tried other solution for the Huawei to activate but all didn't work. After a restart Enable wireless becomes okay, though. To all Ubuntu experts and masters please I'm begging for help. A million Thank You!.
