  • Win 7 Explorer backup and long paths

    I use Explorer to do backups because Win 7's backup program asks me to take backups previously done and to put them back in the drive. I am opposed to that idea since I believe backups should remain in storage. With Explorer backups (burn and burn to disc) I have encountered the "destination path too long" error message and it shows the name of a folder "Debug" three times. I have hundreds of folders named "Debug" thanks to Visual Studio. At this moment I'm too angry at Microsoft to write a program to determine my 3 longest paths. (Aside: This is all after coincidentally reading two articles about path junctions earlier this evening which already made me kind of unhappy.) Please, is there an easy way to continue to make backups with Explorer? Edit: I should add that renaming paths wrecks Visual Studio projects so I really need to isolate the small number of problem paths or find a cleaner solution.

  • Kaspersky processing error Explorer.exe (recycle bin)

    I get daily critical errors from Kaspersky involving Explorer.exe... The file in question is almost always in the Recycle Bin, or something on the desktop. Not sure if it's a bug, something to be concerned about, or an easy fix, etc. I usually just empty the recycle bin for a temporary fix, but would like to get to the root of the error. Thoughts?

  • Can't drag files from Explorer into Notepad++ running as administrator on Windows 8

    If I have Notepad++ running as administrator, I can't drag files from explorer on to it (they are rejected with the 'stop' cursor) and if I try to use the explorer extension right click 'Edit with Notepad++' it throws an error. Opening the files using the Notepad++ 'Open' dialog, or even double clicking them in Explorer works as it should. (Note double clicking is not a solution as very few of the files I want to open are default to Notepad++) I have UAC set to 'never notify'. Using the hack where UAC 'admin approval mode' is disabled fixes the issue, but kills the ability to use Metro apps.

  • I need to debug my BrowserHelperObject (BHO) (in C++ with Visual Studio 2008) after a internet explo

    Hi, here is the situation, i'm developping a Browser Helper Object (BHO) in C++ with Visual Studio 2008, and i learned that the memory wasn't managed the same way in Debug mode than in Release mode. So when i run my BHO in debug mode, internet explorer 8 works just fine and i got no erros at all, the browser stays alive forever, but as soon as i compile it in release mode, i got no errors, no message, nothing, but after 5 minutes i can see through the task manager that internet explorer instances are just eating memory and then the browser just stop responding every time. Please, I really need some hint on how to get a feedback on what could be the error. I heard that, often it was happening because of memory mismanagement. I need a software that just grab a memory dump or something when iexplorer crashes to help me find the problem. Any help is appreciated, I'll be looking for responses every single days, thank you.

  • Windows XP update not working

    I have a problem with XP updating. It hangs when I try to search for updates on the website. But the automatic updates still work. And it's running IE6, so I'm trying to update to IE8, hoping that will fix the problems with the website. But when installing IE8 it just hangs at Installing Internet Explorer 8 for Windows XP And if I try to install it manually, it hangs when installing the updates for IE8.     Are you constantly adding bookmarks to your Delicious account while browsing but want to keep UI use to a minimum? Add bookmarks directly to your account from the context menu using the Share with Delicious accelerator. Share with Delicious in Action To add the accelerator click on Add to Internet Explorer and confirm the installation when the secondary window appears. This is going to be much better than having the Favorites Bar or a new toolbar taking up precious UI room. When you find a webpage that you would like to bookmark right click within the page, go to All Accelerators and select Share with Delicious. The form for the new bookmark will open in a new tab with the URL and title filled in. All that you need to do is add any desired notes/tags and save the bookmark. Suppose that you want notes from the page added to the bookmark. Highlight the desired text, right click on it, then go to All Accelerators and select Share with Delicious. As before the form will open in a new tab…you can see the highlighted text was entered into the notes section for the new bookmark. All that is left to do is add an appropriate tag and save. Once you save your new bookmark the tab will auto navigate to the webpage that you just saved. Returning to our account showed the new bookmark ready for future use along with a the notes for later reference.   • Downloads killing internet on my home network

    I am currently having a problem with my wireless. Whenever I try to download anything it kills the internet for every other application(tabs within the same browser, browsers on other computers on the same network) except the process doing the download. This occurs with everything from downloading updates to iso's. I am not using a torrent. It happens when downloading upgrades, browser downloads, or anything else. This problem does not occur when I use Windows 7 on the same computer and it stops killing the internet for other computers if I turn the download/Ubuntu off. I am using an ASUS G74SX laptop running Ubuntu 12.10 with Gnome 3.6. My wireless card is an Intel Corporation Centrino Wireless-N + WiMAX 6150 (rev 67) Thanks!

  • Why is my Internet connection randomly dropping?

    Ever since I have installed 12.04 (clean install not an upgrade), i have been having a drop in the Internet connection. The drop in the connection can be anything from 15 seconds to about 3 mins, and then the connection comes back. This behaviour happens while I am actively browsing the Internet, or if I wake up the computer and open Firefox (sometimes I have connection and sometimes I don't) . Please note that when the internet connection is on, it is not slow (as speedtest.net results show) In the beginning, I thought it was a problem with the driver r8169 for my RTL8111/8168B Ethernet card, so I downloaded the r8168 from Realtek website, followed the detailed instructions (blacklisted r8169, changed the file to '.bsh' ...), but still the same problem persisted. So I switched to a wireless connection, and I got the same problem with internet connection dropping randomly. Any ideas? What are the considerations in choosing one and not the other? If speed and scalability is our main criteria, which one should we use? We have looked around and it seems that there are more websites that use Python [i.e : Quora, digg, reddit, bitbucket and disqus] than Java. Based on that, can we say that Python is more suitable for internet applications where speed and scalability is the main criteria?     I have no internet on Ubuntu 12.04.1 so i'm on a desktop so I got to install a .exe program to run my wireless card for my desktop so I got internet access, But I can't seem to download wine or its source files. If I do I put on my usb and boot into Ubuntu but then when I try to open it I get the programs source files etc. Anyone who could help me Please do :| ( I can't install wine from software center since I have no connection online). Note : I can download my stuff on windows 8 boot so I can transfer files to my usb to run on Ubuntu.

    I downloaded MySQL's installation package and ran the following command after installing a fresh Ubuntu server. dpkg -i mysql-5.5.28-debian6.0-x86_64.deb It installed fine and then I tried starting up the server manually /opt/mysql/server-5.5/bin/mysqld And the following error came up /opt/mysql/server-5.5/bin/mysqld: error while loading shared libraries: libaio.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory How can I install that library in an offline way ? I have no means whatsoever to an internet connection from that server and I can't even relocate it to have internet connection temporarily ! Thank you.

    Ok I have an Acer Aspire One D255E netbook. Ubuntu 10.04 & 10.10 hangs on install from USB for both, so could not install them. However Ubuntu 9.10 worked and installed. Then I figured I would just connect to the internet and update. However, the internet does not work (doesnt show up in notification), but it worked when 10.04 & 10.10 where used as a live usb. Now is there a way to update just using 10.04-desktop iso from a USB or just somewhere in 9.10 say documents folder? Thank you for any help

    I'm using an Asus G50V and I'm completely new to ubuntu. I just installed it and can connect to the internet with a wired connection and through wireless from my windows vista that I installed wubi on, and I can connect to my wireless network, but I can't actually connect to the internet through my wireless network. Thanks in advance. Network controller is an Intel Corporation WiFi Link 5100 according to lspci if that helps Also, the connection somehow started working after I decided to unplug my ethernet cable for the third time and headed upstairs after giving up for the day.. not sure how it happened, but after restarting, the connection stopped working again.. Wifi works on 11.10, but stops working when I upgrade back to 12.04..

    Possible Duplicate: How can I install and download drivers without internet? (This is related to my other question; my approach there didn't work.) My friend has (I'm quite sure) a Broadcom wireless chipset. However, he doesn't have any wired internet access on the machine, so his only option is to boot into Windows (he is using Wubi) and download packages there. This means we can't use the Hardware Drivers dialog to install the drivers. He can't fetch the repository information, so the Broadcom driver packages aren't showing up in Synaptic. Is there any way to get Wi-Fi working?

    I am using firefox browser and my laptop is DELL Inspiron 1545. I am using Hathway internet connection. When i switch on my internet modem and try to use(browse any website), for the first time in a day it will redirect me to Hathway's login(something like "login.hatyway.com/.....") page automatically. It is working fine in windows but not in Ubuntu 11.10. So I go back to windows every time and then login and then i come back to ubuntu to use. Could you please let me know if there is a solution to this problem.

    Today the update-manaeger suggested that I should download some updates. So I did. After the updates were installed I had to reboot the system. After the reboot my notebook doesn't see any wireless networks. I was looking for a long time on the internet for answers but non of them applies to my case. I have the idea, it has got something to do with the kernel I am currently using (Linux 3.2.0-55). Is this one new for Ubuntu 12.04? When I boot my system I can choose to use an older kernel (linux 3.2.0-32). When I use this one the notebook does see the wireless networks. This is my network card according to the command lspci: Ralink corp. RT3290 Wireless 802.11n 1T/1R PCIe Anyone an idea to fix my problems with wireless internet?
