Java Dragging an object from one area to another [on hold]

Hello I have a game where you drag bits of food around the screen. I want to be able to click on an ingredient and drag it to another part of the screen where I release the mouse. Can Scala be considered a functional superset of Java?

Apart from the differences in syntax, can Scala be considered a superset of Java that adds the functional paradigm to the object-oriented paradigm? Or are there any major features in Java for which there is no direct Scala equivalent? With major features I mean program constructs that would force me to heavily rewrite / restructure my code, e.g., if I had to port a Java program to Scala. Or can I expect that, given a Java program, I can port it to Scala almost line-by-line?

Google and Bing Map APIs Compared

At one of the local golf courses I frequent, there is an open grass field next to the course. It is about eight acres in size and mowed regularly. It is permissible to hit golf balls there—you bring and shag our own balls. My golf colleagues and I spend hours there practicing, chatting and in general just wasting time. One of the guys brings Ginger, the amazing, incredible, wonder dog. Ginger is a Portuguese Pointer. She chases squirrels, begs for snacks and supervises us closely to make sure we don't misbehave. Anyway, I decided to make a dedicated web page to measure distances on the field in yards using online mapping services. I started with Google maps and then did the same application with Bing maps. It is a good way to become familiar with the APIs. Here are images of the final two maps: Google: Bing: To start with online mapping services, you need to visit the respective websites and get a developers key. I pared the code down to the minimum to make it easier to compare the APIs. In one aerial view, there are leaves on the tree, in the other, the trees are bare. I don't know which service has the newer data. For a long back I re-install my Java, so i don't remember which command I used to un-install my Java. Now I am not able to see my date and time settings and my shared folders are also not in sharing. Can anybody tell to me what gone wrong in my Java un-installation and how can I get back them.

Setting httponly in JSESSIONID cookie (Java EE 5)

I'm trying to set the httponly flag on the JSESSIONID cookie. I'm working in Java EE 5, however, and can't use setHttpOnly(). First I tried to create my own JSESSIONID cookie from within the servlet's doPost() by using response.setHeader(). When that didn't work, I tried response.addHeader(). That didn't work either. Then, I learned that the servlet handled converting the session into a JSESSIONID cookie and inserting it into the http header so if I want to play with that cookie, I'll have to write a filter. I wrote a filter and played with setHeader()/addHeader() there, again to no avail. Then, I learned that there's some flush/close action going on in the response object before it gets to the filter so if I want to manipulate the data, I need to extend HttpServletResponseWrapper and pass that to filterChain.doFilter(). This is done but I'm still not getting results. Clearly I'm doing something wrong but I don't know what. I'm not sure if this is at all relevant to the question at hand but no html document is being returned by the servlet to the browser. All that's really happening is that some objects are being populated and returned to a JSP document. I've sort of assumed that The Session object is turned into a JSESSIONID cookie and wrapped -- along with the objects added to the request -- in an http header before being sent to the browser. I'd be happy to post some code but I want to rule out the possibility that my difficulties stem from a misunderstanding of the theory first.

Showing ImageView next to TextView in a ListView

So I have a listview that is displaying correctly. When the item is "turned on" the text is white and when it's turned off it's grey. That part all functions great. However when I add the ImageView into the mix I get a null pointer exception. I don't understand why. I've tried using bitmaps as well and get the same problem. Java VM problem in OpenVZ

Hi, I bought a vps for hosting my java needs. But I can't run java on it. Everything about java is correctly installed but when I try to run java ("java -version" forexample) I get this error : Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap Could not create the Java virtual machine. I don't think this is a java centered problem, Out of memory for sure. I contacted the vps admin, but he says everything is fine, you have 2gb ram, expandable to 4gb! I did a bit search on the subject, here is my BEANS file (numbers converted to humanredable form using a script). By the way do JVM heap memory allocs count on kmemsize or privvmpages ? I have been asked to make a mobile app for a friends website. The website is a Multi level marketing site that sells products and franchises. A client logs in in to the website and can view his or her dashboard ( user can view team members, business volume, commissions, invoices, etc.) The app is supposed to bring the dashboard to user's mobile devices (w/ some added features). The company does not have any APIs that deal with interaction or authentication, and I am new to the whole secure login side of app development. My questions is this, how do I let the users gain access to their information via my app from the secure website when there is no API?

Java ME SDK 3.0.5 Integrated with NetBeans 7.1.1

NetBeans 7.1.1 now integrates Java ME SDK 3.0.5, so you do not have to download them separately. Java ME SDK was packaged in NetBeans Mobility Pack, a mobile application development toolkit for NetBeans. Therefore, Java ME SDK is no longer a separate menu on NetBeans. For those who have not downloaded Java ME SDK yet, please simply visit NetBeans website and download the latest version. For those who already have Java ME SDK integrated with NetBeans 7.1 or earlier, and want to update NetBeans IDE to 7.1.1, don't worry. They can co-exist. To use NetBeans plug-ins such as Device Selector, profiler, and Internationalization Resource Manager, you have to install "Java ME SDK Tools" from NetBeans. Here is how. 1. Go to "Tools - Plug-ins" from NetBeans menu. You can find all the plug-ins you can install into NetBeans. Locate "Java ME SDK Tools" from the list. 2. Follow the instruction to install Java ME SDK Plug-ins. 3. Once completed, you will see new menu options. For example, you can find Device Selector under Tools - Java ME. (If you used old version of Java ME, you will notice that there is not 'Java ME' menu any more. This is because all the sub-menus were integrated into appropriate places in NetBeans.) There is one thing to keep in mind; Since NetBeans 7.1.1 already includes Java ME SDK 3.0.5 and Java ME SDK 3.0.5 plug-ins must be installed through NetBeans plug-in menu, you should not download Java ME SDK 3.0.5 separately and try to integrate it with NetBeans. Generating Wrappers for REST APIs

Would it be feasible to generate wrappers for REST APIs? An earlier question asked about machine readable descriptions of RESTful services addressed how we could write (and then read) API specifications in a standardized way which would lend itself well to generated wrappers. Could a first pass parser generate a decent wrapper that human intervention could fix up? Perhaps the first pass wouldn't be consistent, but would remove a lot of the grunt work and make it easy to flesh out the rest of the API and types. What would need to be considered? What's stopping people from doing this? Has it already been done and my google fu is weak for the day?

CentOS 6 and Sun/Oracle Java Issue

I have a OpenVZ VPS running CentOS 6.3 64 bit and when I try to install JRE 7 64bit using the command: rpm -Uvh java.rpm It gives me this error: Preparing... ########################################### [100%] 1:jre ########################################### [100%] Unpacking JAR files... rt.jar... Error: Could not open input file: /usr/java/jre1.7.0_09/lib/rt.pack jsse.jar... Error: Could not open input file: /usr/java/jre1.7.0_09/lib/jsse.pack charsets.jar... Error: Could not open input file: /usr/java/jre1.7.0_09/lib/charsets.pack localedata.jar... Error: Could not open input file: /usr/java/jre1.7.0_09/lib/ext/localedata.pack I then tried the command: java -version And it gives me this error: Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap Error: Could not create the Java Virtual Machine Error: A fatal exception has occurred. Program will exit. Why does this happen if I have more than enough RAM on the VPS to run this (1GB)? Could it be an issue with the host node of the VPS? Java Process "The pipe has been ended" problem

I am using Java Process API to write a class that receives binary input from the network (say via TCP port A), processes it and writes binary output to the network (say via TCP port B). I am using Windows XP. The code looks like this. There are two functions called run() and receive(): run is called once at the start, while receive is called whenever there is a new input received via the network. Run and receive are called from different threads. The run process starts an exe and receives the input and output stream of the exe.
