  • How to make placeholder varablies in jquery validate 1.7?

    - by chobo2
    Hi I am using jquery 1.4.2 and jquery validate 1.7(http://bassistance.de/jquery-plugins/jquery-plugin-validation/) Say I have this example that I just grabbed off some random site(http://www.webreference.com/programming/javascript/jquery/form_validation/) 8 <script type="text/javascript"> 9 $(document).ready(function() { 10 $("#form1").validate({ 11 rules: { 12 name: "required",// simple rule, converted to {required:true} 13 email: {// compound rule 14 required: true, 15 email: true 16 }, 17 url: { 18 url: true 19 }, 20 comment: { 21 required: true 22 } 23 }, 24 messages: { 25 comment: "Please enter a comment." 26 } 27 }); 28 }); 29 </script> now is it possible to do something like this 10 $("#form1").validate({ var NameHolder = "name" 11 rules: { 12 NameHolder: "required",// simple rule, converted to {required:true} 13 email: {// compound rule 14 required: true, 15 email: true So basically I want to make sort of a global variable to hold theses rule names( what correspond to the names on that html control). My concern is the names of html controls can change and it kinda sucks that I will have to go around and change it in many places of my code to make it work again. So basically I am wondering is there away to make a global variable to store this name. So if I need to change the name I only have to change it in one spot in my javascript file sort of the way stopping magic numbers ?

  • JQuery - Pass variables to PHP script via AJAX call and then display file

    - by hfidgen
    Hiya, I'm trying to generate Outlook event files for my events, doing so on the fly as and when someone requests it by pressing a link on the page. Here's what i've got so far, but I can't find out how to get the browser to download the content which is returned. I know how I could do this if I sent everything via _GET, but I'd prefer to do it via _POST, hence I'm going down this route.. Any thoughts? Thanks! HTML / Javascript <script> $(function() { $(".button").click(function() { // validate and process form // first hide any error messages var start = $("input#start").val(); var end = $("input#end").val(); var dataString = 'start='+ start + '&end=' + end; $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "/calendar.php", data: dataString, success: function(data) { //Need to return the file contents somehow! } }); return false; }); }); </script> <form name="calendar" method="post" action=""> <input type="hidden" name="start" id="start" value="<?php echo $start; ?>" /> <input type="hidden" name="end" id="end" value="<?php echo $end; ?>" /> <input type="submit" name="submit" class="button" id="submit_btn" value="Outlook" /> </fieldset> </form> PHP File <?php if (isset($_POST['start'])) { $start = $_POST['start']; $end = $_POST['end']; $c = header("Content-Type: text/Calendar"); $c .= header("Content-Disposition: inline; filename=calendar.ics"); $c .= "BEGIN:VCALENDAR\n"; $c .= "VERSION:2.0\n"; $c .= "PRODID:-//xxxyyyy//NONSGML //EN\n"; $c .= "METHOD:REQUEST\n"; // requied by Outlook $c .= "BEGIN:VEVENT\n"; $c .= "UID:". $start . $end ."-" .   • jQuery UI Slider (setting programatically)

    - by jAndy
    Hi Folks, I'd like to modify the sliders on-the-fly. I tried to do so by using $("#slider").slider("option", "values", [50,80]); This call will set the values, but the element will not update the slider positions. Calling $('#slider").trigger('change'); does not help either. Is there another/better way to modify the value AND slider position ?

    I have this code: $(function() { var mainButtons = [ {text: "Invite" , 'class': 'invite-button' , click: function() { // get list of members alert('Invite was clicked...'); } } // end Invite button , {text: "Options" , 'class': 'options-button' , click: function() { alert('Options...'); } } // end Options button ] // end mainButtons , commentButtons = [ {text: "Clear" , 'class': 'clear-button' , click: function() { $('#comment').val('').focus().select(); } } // end Clear button , {text: "Post comment" , 'class': 'post-comment-button' , click: function() { alert('send comment...'); } } // end Post comment ] // end commentButtons $( "#form" ).dialog({ autoOpen: false , height: 465 , width: 700 , modal: true , position: ['center', 35] , buttons: mainButtons }); $( "#user-form" ) .button() .click(function() { $(this).effect("transfer",{ to: $("#form") }, 1500); $( "#form" ).dialog( "open" ); $( ".invite-button" ).button({ icons: {primary:'ui-icon-person',secondary:'ui-icon-triangle-1-s'} }); $( ".options-button" ).button({ icons: {primary:'ui-icon-gear'} }); }); // Add comment... $("#comment, .comment").click(function(){ $('#comment').focus().select(); $("#form").dialog({buttons: commentButtons}); $( ".post-comment-button" ).button({ icons: {primary:'ui-icon-comment'} }); $( ".clear-button" ).button({ icons: {primary:'ui-icon-refresh'} }); }); //Add comment // Bind back the Invite, Options buttons $(".files, .email, .event, .map").click(function(){ $("#form").dialog({buttons: mainButtons}); $( ".invite-button" ).button({ icons: {primary:'ui-icon-person',secondary:'ui-icon-triangle-1-s'} }); $( ".options-button" ).button({ icons: {primary:'ui-icon-gear'} }); }); // Tabs $( "#tabs" ).tabs(); $( ".tabs-bottom .ui-tabs-nav, .ui-tabs-nav > *" ) .removeClass( "ui-widget-header" ) .addClass( "ui-corner-bottom" ); }); ? What is the right way to add the button icons? As in my code I had to add it two times, once: $( "#user-form" ) .button() .click(function() { $(this).effect("transfer",{ to: $("#form") }, 1500); $( "#form" ).dialog( "open" ); ... and $(".files, .email, .event, .map").click(function(){ ... Could this code be improved further? I don't seem to be able to get the "transfer" effect to work correctly in a modal. I added: , close: function() { $(this).effect("transfer",{ to: $("#user-form") }, 1500); } to the $( "#form" ).dialog({ How would you go about in getting the "transfer" to work nicely when you open and close the dialog box?

Thanks!-zeem $(document).ready(function(){ if (mmjsRegionName == 'CO') { $("#cast").imBannerRotater({ return_type: 'json', data_map: { image_name: 'name', url_name: 'url' }, image_url: '#', base_path: '#', }); } else { $("#pram").imBannerRotater({ return_type: 'json', data_map: { image_name: 'name', url_name: 'url' }, image_url: '#', base_path: '#', }); });

  • jQuery animation if load() returns something different...

    - by Dan LaManna
    setInterval(function() { var prevTopArticle = $("#toparticles table:first").html(); $("#toparticles").load("myurloffeed.com/topfeed", function() { alternateBG(); var newTopArticle = $("#toparticles table:first").html(); if (prevTopArticle!=newTopArticle) { $("#toparticles table:first").effect("highlight", {color:"#faffc4"}, 2000); } }); }, 8000); So it sets the current first table item to a variable, loads the toparticles div with the tables off the url, and if they are different it will perform the highlight effect, however it does the highlight effect anyway, completely unsure why it isn't working.

  • jquery calculation sum two different type of item

    - by st4n
    I'm writing a script like the example shown in the demo where All of the "Total" values (Including the "Grand Total") are Automatically Calculated using the calc () method. at this link: But I have some fields in which to apply the equation qty * price, and others where I want to do other operations .. you can tell me how? thank you very much i try with this, but it is a very stupid code .. and the grandTotal .. not sum the two different fields: function recalc() { $("[id^=total_item]").calc("qty * price", { qty: $("input[name^=qty_item_]"), price: $("[id^=price_item_]") }, function (s){ // return the number as a dollar amount return "$" + s.toFixed(2); }, function ($this){ // sum the total of the $("[id^=total_item]") selector var sum = $this.sum(); $("#grandTotal").text( // round the results to 2 digits "$" + sum.toFixed(2) ); }); $("[id^=total_otheritem]").calc("qty1 / price1", { qty1: $("input[name^=qty_other_]"), price1: $("[id^=price_other_]") }, function (s){ // return the number as a dollar amount return "$" + s.toFixed(2); }, function ($this){ var sum = $this.sum(); $("#grandTotal").text( // round the results to 2 digits "$" + sum.toFixed(2) ); }); }

  • How to start/stop/restart jQuery animation

    - by Emin
    I have the following function that when I call displays a message to the user for a certain amount of time (5 secs in my case). During this "period" if I call the function again to display another message, practically it should hide, then re-appear with the new message for another 5 seconds. What happens with my code below, I call the function to display the message. Then, lets say on the 4th second, I call it again to display another message, the new message is displayed for 1 second. I need to somehow -reset- the time but can't figure out how. Tried stopping the animation, checking if the element was visible and hiding it if it was, and many other things. I believe the solution is a simple chaining issue but can't get it right. So any help would be appreciated! function display_message(msgType, message) { var elem = $('#ur_messagebox'); switch (msgType) { case 'confirm': elem.addClass('msg_confirm'); break; case 'error': elem.addClass('msg_error'); break; } elem.html(message); elem.show().delay(5000).fadeOut(1000); } thanks in advance...
