I recently stumbled across Splunk 4 (by way of an advert on this very site...) and found that it had an "App" that's designed to work with Cisco IronPort WebSecurity and E-Mail Appliances! That's really awesome, because good IronPort reporting is something our IT-dept. is looking for. Anyways - I'm totally lost on how to configure this thing. I've googled like a mad-man to find a guide or such like - but I haven't found anything. Has anyone here set up IP / Splunk? Any tips/pointers? Regards, Mikael Selander

• /lib/udev/net.agent causing high CPU usage

  We have a number of Soekris boxes running Debian Squeeze. They were installed through an automated process consisting of using deboostrap and copying it unto a Compact Flash card. We use puppet to manage the configuration of all these boxes. Before Debian Squeeze, they were running Voyage Linux which is just a "lighter" version of Debian. Since we have switched, we're seeing the /lib/udev/net.agent process take up an aweful lot of CPU. We have so far been unable to find any clue as to what this really does and why it's taking up some much CPU time. In htop we see the following : We are seeing absolutly no syslog messages related to this process so we're a bit lost... So, I am looking for pointers as to what this process does in general and what could be the potential cause of such CPU usage.

Here are the features I am looking for : at least 500Go HDD capable of playing HD (1080p) supporting a good range of video and audio codecs support for subtitles including a DVB-T input (coax) and tuner composite video input 5.1 (or 7.1) analog audio output LAN (100M or Gigabit) fileserver (SMB or NFS) remote control possibly digital output (S/PDIF, TOSLINK, or other) no need for integrated DVD player no need for wifi The Ultio Pro looks nice (http://www.thinkgeek.com/electronics/home-entertainment/d3fe). • Synergy: server refused client

  I am trying to get Synergy up and running from a new Windows 7 computer, to an XP computer. The Synergy installations seemed to go fine. I configured each to start on start-up, which they seem to, but the client won't connect. I get repeated: "server refused client with our name" messages in the log output. The Synergy FAQ says to "Add the client to the server's configuration file." But I can't seem to find an instruction set on how to do this. I've looked and looked, but I'm lost...

• Finding the A Record for a Home Server [closed]

Now, here's the question, I have a home server that I need to access though this hosted website's domain name. How would I go about setting up the 'A Record' on the server to point to my home server. I'm usually pretty good about keyword searches but on this one, I'm pretty lost as to what to search for.

• Can't start my Windows XP Virtual Machine: Insufficient Disk Space

  Okay, I currently have a server with two virtual machines installed on it, a CentOS5.4 and a Windows XP. I was remote desktopping the Windows XP chatting on IRC, and all of a sudden I lost connection. I checked with my HyperVisor and tried to restart it, and it won't start at all. It's giving me this error: Message from server0297.serverpool.gnet.ba: Failed to extend swap file (fileHandle 16414) from 0 KB to 524288 KB: No space left on device. Could not power on VM : No space left on device. Failed to power on VM info 4/17/2010 9:49:20 PM root Basically I bought the set up from a host, he installed the HyperVisor and the VirtualMachines, and honestly I don't really know what I'm doing. I've looked at some of the settings, and I can't figure it out. If you need any additional information, I'll try to provide it. The CentOS5.4 is still starting and working flawlessly, if that's relevant.

• Why is my router not routing?

  Starting a week and half ago my router stopped working with my cable modem. I went to sleep with it working and woke up with it not. I swapped in another router and am still having issues; I was gone for 10 days so now I'm back to trying to figure it out. While I was gone I left everything (cable modem, router, and computer) powered off. My setup: Comcast Ambit cable modem (from Comcast) Netgear WGR614 v4 router -- replaced with Linksys WRT54GS v1.1 Windows XP SP3 other computers, all currently unplugged The modem is using the firmware (ver 2.105.2001) provided by Comcast; hardware version 1.3 The Linksys router is using FW ver 4.71.4 (latest for this release of HW), factory defaults I am only using the wired connections; no wireless. I have swapped out all of the cat5 cable. If I plug my computer directly into the cable modem, I can ping by name or number. Everything works perfectly. If I plug my computer into the router and the router into the modem, I cannot access anything outside of my local network. This is the exact setup I've used for the past 5 years; there were no changes in the past year. Now here's the interesting part: I can log into the Linksys router and get status information from it; everything appears good. Using the Diagnostics, I can run ping and traceroute to any site on the internet. These work perfectly. From my computer, I can ping the router and the modem. However, I cannot ping anything on the internet by with name or number. If I plug in another computer, I can ping it successfully. I've included two transcripts below that show these two attempts. Addresses, DNS, gateways, etc. look good. I cannot access the internet through either router. I am at a loss here. Suggestions? Help! • Could we build a mega-processor out of superconductors?

  A superconductor, once cooled below a critical temperature, loses all of its electrical resistance and therefore becomes 100% efficient. This means that when a current flows through a superconductor, none of the energy is lost to heat or light. Theoretically, could we build a processor out of superconductive materials, that could effectively run at, oh I don't know, say, 300ghz? or 5,000ghz? Since a superconductive circuit is 100% efficient, this means that once supplied with electricity, the source of power could be completely removed from the circuit and the current would continue to flow forever. So if we made all the components inside a computer out of superconductive materials, could we get away with only supplying power to the peripherals and save a-whole-lot on energy, while dramatically increasing computing speed? Might this be one of the next big breakthroughs in computing? What do you think?

• CentOS running inside VMware as WebServer times out on outside connection

  I have a CentOS machine running inside VMware, and I have got PHP and Apache set up on it, so if I open a browser (on the VM) and go to either localhost, or 192.168.0.3, I get a phpinfo page I made in /var/www/html/index.php, but, if on the host (Windows 7), in my browser I go to 192.168.0.3, it times out. I can ping the IP address from Windows and get a response, I just can't through the browser. Does anyone have any ideas what I need to do to get this working? This is my first time using a VM and I'm getting lost in the network settings.

• HDD vanished after wakeup from standby

  In my computer I got two hard drives: One 80GB Intel X25 Postville SSD for the system and a 1,5TB Sata HDD for data. When I put the system into standby, and wake it up again, roundabout 50% of the time the 1,5TB HDD is not found. It just vanished from the system (wreaking havok to all programs running which had open files on it). Even going into the system management and refreshing the drives does not find the lost HDD. There are no messages about this in the event log. After a warm reboot the hdd is found again, just like it should. The system is a Shuttle SP35P2 Pro with 8GB Ram and DualCore CPU, OS is Windows 7 Ultimate. I even set up the OS anew, didn't help. Any ideas what might cause this? How to debug, or maybe even fix it?

• local cache for NAS or network folder

  I am planning to build a network attached storage (NAS) server. Is there a way to cache frequently acccessed files from the remote storage automatically on the local PC? (I am not looking for a way to sync whole folders like rsync, but rather something that automatically and transparently caches the last accessed 50 gb of files.) Ideally I am searching for something that caches writes as well as reads, since only one pc will be accessing the server (and one day of lost changes if the local cache is damaged would be acceptable) I looked into windows offline files, but as far as I could tell this requires manual interaction to disconnect the server or go into offline mode in order to use the cache. The server would probably be running Linux or freeNAS, the pc runs Windows xp, but could be upgraded to 7 if required.

• Can't enable apache mod on emerge

  I want to add mod_proxy and mod_proxy_http to Apache server on my Gentoo, but apparently some file with high priority on the system is disabling the mods and preventing me to install. I am currently editing /usr/portage/profiles/base/make.defaults file, but it gets updated (and changes lost) every time I update the system. I have to edit it every time I update the system/reinstall Apache. Besides that, I have already added dependencies to the /etc/portage/package.use file: www-servers/apache proxy proxy_http What other files do I have do change or should check flags so I can enable proxy and do not have to edit files again every time?

• Cisco VPN disconnects after 5 seconds with error 422

  I'm trying to connect to my university's server with VPN using Cisco VPN Client version 5.0.04, but after 5 seconds it disconnects with the error message 422: Lost contact with the secure gateway. Check your connection. From my research on the net it seems this could be because it tries to find my IP, and finds out that this is 127.0.0.1. Then 5 seconds later it discovers that I have a new IP (my actual IP), and it disconnects because I'm not allowed to change IP. Does anyone know how I could fix this, or if there is another reason i get this error? Update I looked through the log, and found this error, which confirms what I thought, except it gets the correct IP first, then changes it to localhost. 87 18:56:53.250 08/24/09 Sev=Warning/3 CM/0xA3100027 Adapter address changed from 149.171.237.25. • Git version control with multiple users

  Hello, i am a little bit lost with this issue, let me explain you my problem: I want to setup a git repository, three of four users will contribute, so they need to download the code and shall be able to upload their changes to the server or update their branch with the latest modifications. So, i setup a linux machine, install git, setup the repository, then add the users in order to enable the acces throught ssh.   Hi, I'm trying to fetch emails programmatically from Exchange 2003 over POP. As a proof of concept I'm trying to connect using openssl s_client. I've started the POP service on my Exchange server. Trying to connect using openssl s_client -connect MYEXCHANGESERVER:995 returns 20303:error:140790E5:SSL routines:SSL23_WRITE:ssl handshake failure:s23_lib.c:188: Trying openssl s_client -connect MYEXCHANGESERVER:995 -starttls pop3 returns CONNECTED(00000003) write:errno=32 Forgive a newb - I'm basically shooting wildly in the dark with no idea on what I'm supposed to be doing. In the past I've read my GMail over openssl s_client, and setting up those certificates was easy and well documented. I would imagine I need to set up some sort of certificate here as well, and I've looked a bit at using a .pfx file. But like I said, I'm completely lost here. Thankful for any advice, Andreas

Just curious as not all VM (in production) not to be in Failover Cluster and Live Migration. If i put the VM into CSV but did not make it as HA, what impact does it make since i allocate same vCPU, vNic and VMemory into the VM. (not to mention that i lost failover feature). Curious to understand more about this. Please advise. Thanks

• LibreOffice Calc/Writer: How to get the dates for specifc weekdays per month?

  I'm stuck with a problem in LibreOffice Calc or Writer: I try to get a table of dates for every monday, wednesday and friday per month, something that I can load every new month wich sets the dates automatically so I just have to print the page on paper. :) In Writer the fieldcommand for date can't obviosly do the job (it only can be set to a fix date, the todays date or +offset as far as I can see). In Calc I tried it with the autofill but that obviosly works for the first 3 days only. I might add that I'm lost with Excel/calc formulars... Any help?

However, there is no information on how to obtain Adobe Indesign from the Adobe licensing portal. This is our first time dealing with Adobe volume licensing so I'm a bit lost as to what we're suppose to do. I've googled around a little and found an Adobe License Portal but I do not have access to it. • Configuring TMUX's status bar

  I want my tmux session to show my current ip address in the right hand side of the status bar but I am having the hardest time figuring up the right syntax. The command works perfectly in the shell, but tmux won't parse it. set -g status-right '#[fg=white]#(host (hostname))' [Note: I am using the fish shell] I really want it to be: set -g status-right '#[fg=white]#(hostname)@#(host (hostname) | cut -d " " -f 4)' But since I can't get the former status bar to work, this is a lost cause. The weird thing is I got the first one to work once, but then I added the cut.

• How can I recover Google Chrome extensions, settings after a Linux crash?

  I'm running Google Chrome 5.0.307.11 (Official Build 39572) beta on Debian Linux (lenny) kernel version 2.6.26-2-686. The machine is a laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad X300) and sometimes it freezes, usually shortly after wakeup from sleep. The only cure is the power button, but when I restart my Google Chrome web browser after such an event, Settings on the Options menu revert to defaults. Chrome removes all the extensions from ~/.config/google-chrome/Default/Extensions, leaving me with no extensions. The set of "pages last open" is lost. I'd love to know how to poke at the file system in order to recover any or all of this information, especially my extensions. It is a pain to re-do everything by hand each time. How can I recover Google Chrome's extensions and settings after a Linux crash?

• Setting alias for DynDNS domain

  Hey all, I've created DynDNS domain for testing my local sites, and i'm having trouble with pointing to root domain. From my registrar (GoDaddy) I've created a CNAME for www to point my example.dyndns.com so going to url www.example.com I'm reaching my site. But if I'm going to example.com I'm reaching to the IP of the A record. I can't set the IP for the A record to be my IP because I have dynamic IP, and it changes constatly, and I can't point the A record to domain, only IP. When trying to create CNAME record @ to point example.dyndns.com I'm getting error "A record of a different type exists for the hostname @, could not create CNAME" The only record using the '@' host are NS record, which I can't delete, and when tried to set another NS record with @ point to example.dyndns.com, I've lost connection to my site :) So what can I do to get example.com url reach my site? • Exchange Disconnecting on EHLO with remote telnet

  When I go to the local terminal on my Exchange box (SBS 2008) I can do this: telnet 127.0.0.1 25 220 Exchange banner here EHLO example.com 250 Server name However when I go from another box, or from the actual IP of the server I get this: telnet 192.168.21.20 25 220 Exchange banner here EHLO example.com 421 4.4.1 Connection timed out Connection to host lost. The odd thing is, this server is currently in production and working fine (receiving mail for our entire domain). But my C# programs can't send mail to it (they get this same error). Any ideas?
