  I recently setup a Windows 2008 R2 server on Amazon EC2. I now want to move an application I created on my local desktop to this server. However, having never done this before I have no idea how to transfer files from my local desktop to the online server. What is the standard convention for transferring files from local machine to the server? As a side note, why can I not download the .NET framework 4 .exe file? Clicking the download link does nothing... (it is already a trusted site)

• How to 'move' mail from Inbox to custom mail folder? (Mac Mail client + Gmail account)

  I'm using Mail on Mac OS X with Gmail account. I can make a new mailbox folder, and mails can be dragged into there. But, the mails still remain in Inbox. It did not moved. It just copied. (well, it's 'label' feature of Gmail, I know.) This makes crazy. I can't separate mails for each purpose. Is there any way to make Mail application 'move' mails into my custom box (remove from Inbox)?

• How can I move a window that cannot be moved by mouse?

  I have downloaded a version of Finale Notepad on Windows 7. When I first used it it functioned perfectly. Every time I opened it a popup asking me about downloading a different version would show up that I could just click out of. When the pop up appeared I was unable to quit out of the window or move it at all, but it posed no issue. Apparently, though, the last time I quit out of the program, the screen must have been dragged down below my taskbar. Now, I am unable to quit out of the popup when I reopen the program, meaning I can't access it at all. I tried restarting my computer, uninstalling the program, downloading different versions of the program, and even using alternate methods of moving it, such as Alt+Tab, but nothing works.

  I'd like for Nginx to do the following: If the uri matches the pattern: http://mysite.com/$string/ and $string is not 'KB', and not 'images', look for $string.html in a specific subfolder. If $string.html exists in the subfolder, return it. If it does not exist, move on to the next matching location. $string = {any letters, numbers, or dash} For example, if the user requests: http://mysite.com/test/ It should look for a file called: /webroot/www/myfolder/test.html I've tried variations of: location ~ /[a-zA-Z0-9\-]+/ { try_files /myfolder/$uri.html @Nowhere; } But: It doesn't seem to find the file even when it does exist, and If it fails (which is always right now), it wants to jump to the @nowhere location, rather than moving on and trying to find another location that matches. I'd like for it to consider the current location "not a match" if the file doesn't exist.

• How can I move an existing VM's files to a new directory in the same datastore?

  Hi, I have some VMs deployed on ESX. In vSphere 4, I want to move these VMs into another directory in the datastore. So the VM directories are under root, but I want them in root/MyNewFolder. I tried this by turning off a VM, copying the VM's file (VMDK etc) into the directory I want, deleting the hard drive from the VM's settings, adding a new hard drive and then selecting the new path to the VMDK. When I press ok on the settings dialog box, having made this modification to the settings, I get the following error: not found. What I am trying to do also does not seem to be possible when making a new VM. I can only make VMs under root.

  I've done this in the past using a method similar to this: http://javascriptkit.com/javatutors/static3.shtml but I don't like the "flicker" effect as the page is scrolled and the div needs to move with the scrolling. Lately I've seen a lot of site that have an element (a div or the like I presume) that don't move when the page is scrolled but it's seemless...they're just there and it's a beautiful thing. Unfortunately I can't seem to recall where I've seen it lately to view the source and try to figure it out so I figured I'd turn here and see what all of you experts can provide as far as assistance / suggestions. • Program to Queue Files for Copy/Move/Delete in linux?

  I've search the net for Linux's answer to something like Teracopy (Windows)... but could not find anything suitable. The closest things i got are: Krusader. Mentioned in their features but indicated as 'not implemented yet'. MiniCopier. A java based app http://a.courreges.free.fr/projets/minicopier/minicopier-en.php rsync is not an option. Can someone recommend me a simple file copy tool that can queue files for copy/move/delete? Preferably if I can drag and drop from Nautilus. If something like this does not exist, can someone please tell me why? ...am I the only person that needs something like this?

  When searching for files in Windows Explorer, I like to use the Preview Pane to determine if it is the file I was looking for. But with the Preview Pane on the right hand side, either the preview is squished and unreadable or I need to make the Preview Pane wider which ends up hiding a lot of search information. Is there a way to move the Preview Pane to the bottom of the screen. I would rather see less lines in the preview and less files in the search results but be able to see (and read) all of what is being shown.

Clearly, List doesn't have traverse, so it must be implicitly converted to another type that does. Even though I spent a considerable amount of time trying to find out, I wasn't very successful. First I found that there is a method in scalaz.Traversable traverse[F[_], A, B] (f: (A) => F[B], t: T[A])(implicit arg0: Applicative[F]): F[T[B]] but clearly this is not it (although it's most likely that "my" traverse is implemented using this one). After a lot of searching, I grepped scalaz source codes and I found scalaz.MA's method traverse[F[_], B] (f: (A) => F[B])(implicit a: Applicative[F], t: Traverse[M]): F[M[B]] which seems to be very close. Still I'm missing to what List is converted in my example and if it uses MA.traverse or something else. The question is: What procedure should I follow to find out what exactly is called at d.traverse? Having even such a simple code that is so hard analyze seems to me like a big problem. Am I missing something very simple? How should I proceed when I want to understand such code that uses a lot of imported implicits? Is there some way to ask the compiler what implicits it used? Or is there something like Hoogle for Scala so that I can search for a method just by its name?

  I am making an AI for my checkers game and I'm trying to make it as hard as possible. Here is the current criteria for a move on the hardest difficulty: 1: Look For A Block: This is when a piece is being threatened and another piece can be moved in behind it to protect it.   I've never really done much game programming before, pretty straightforward question. Imagine I'm building a Tetris game, with the main loop looking something like this. for every frame handle input if it's time to make the current block move down a row if we can move the block move the block else remove all complete rows move rows down so there are no gaps if we can spawn a new block spawn a new current block else game over Everything in the game so far happens instantly - things are spawned instantly, rows are removed instantly etc. But what if I don't want things to happen instantly (i.e animate things)? for every frame handle input if it's time to make the current block move down a row if we can move the block move the block else ?? animate complete rows disappearing (somehow, wait over multiple frames until the animation is done) ?? animate rows moving downwards (and again, wait over multiple frames) if we can spawn a new block spawn a new current block else game over In my Pong clone this wasn't an issue, as every frame I was just moving the ball and checking for collisions. How can I wrap my head around this issue? Surely most games involves some action that takes more than a frame, and other things halt until the action is done.

  We use Tomcat to host our WAR based applications. We are servlet container compliant J2EE applications with the exception of org.apache.catalina.authenticator.SingleSignOn. We are being asked to move to a commercial J2EE application server. The first downside to changing that I see is the cost. No matter what the charges for the application server, Tomcat is free. Second is the complexity. We don't use either EJB nor EAR features (of course not, we can't), and have not missed them. What then are the benefits I'm not seeing? What are the drawbacks that I haven't mentioned? Mentioned were... JTA - Java Transaction API - We control transaction via database stored procedures. JPA - Java Persistence API - We use JDBC and again stored procedures to persist. JMS - Java Message Service - We use XML over HTTP for messaging. This is good, please more!

• How do I get a div to float to the bottom of its container?

  I have floated images and inset boxes at the top of a container using float:right (or left) many times. Recently I hit a need to float a div at the bottom right corner of another div with the normal text wrap that you get with float (text wrapped above and to the left only). I thought this must be relatively easy even though float has no bottom value but I haven't been able to do it using a number of techniques and searching the web hasn't come up with anything other than using absolute positioning but this doesn't give the correct word wrap behaviour. I had thought this would be a very common design but apparently it isn't. If nobody has a suggestion I'll have to break my text up into separate boxes and align the div manually but that is rather precarious and I'd hate to have to do it on every page that needs it.

  I've been assigned to implement a video on-demand service for a local university. Different aspects of the lectures (video, audio, screen cast, white board) will be recorded. During a lecture all these data streams arrive at one Linux server. This server should transcode and bundle all these streams into one container (Matroska) file. My options seem to be: Write a GStreamer application do something with FFMPEG do something with VLC ...? Has anyone done something similar in the past? Can you recommend something? Edit For those interested, here are a few of my findings: Matroska is not a good format for streaming (it's possible, but it's not its primary intent) For Flash streaming you can use MPEG4 If you want to combine different videos into one video where each subvideo occupies a rectangular portion of the total screen, then this GStreamer script is useful (I found it on this blog post). Desktop capture works fine with VLC

  I have a baseclass with a protected static ArrayList. I want to have a seperate ArrayList for each kind of subclass that extends this baseclass. However, when I try to implement the following static method in the same base class, it doesn't adhere to CRTP: public static void clear() { data.clear(); } For example: class SubExample extends BaseExample<SubExample> { // insertion methods accessing 'data' field // these work fine :) } SubExample.clear(); // does not seem to clear data container Do I need to somehow explicitly specify T in my baseclass clear method? • Why is the page shifting to top with a container that has overflow:hidden ?

  I'm facing a problem that's really strange. It's in every browser. Everything is working correctly, until you try to go to a section using the hash ( like #contactUs in my page)... try this url : http://mahersalam.co.cc/projects/2011/#contactUs You will see that the page SHIFTS 10px to the top. if you take the hash, it works again. I have a wrapper on the page (#container) that has overflow:hidden, I did it to make sure no scroll bars appear if the resolution change. If you remove the overflow property it works too. I guess the shifting happens through the place of the scroll bar, but because it's hidden it's place only stays. So does anyone knows how to fix this problem ?

• How to achieve Bottom Align floated div that sizes to it's container.

  How can I achieve the following layout? Specifically the positioning of Image and DIV I've found that unless I set a specific width for the Div, it will just go on to the next line and take up the full width of the container. Additionally aligning it relative to the bottom of the image is giving me trouble. Currently they're both float:left Edit: The two solutions so far work if the image is a constant width which I guess I could work with, but it's going in a Wordpress theme for an author's profile page and it's possible that images would have slightly variable widths. Is there a solution that would have the Div right next to the image (minus padding) regardless of how wide or narrow the image is? Basically having the div adjust its width to accommodate the image width.

Now, how can I move that last mail into the correct thread? I tried to drag&drop it at the mail I think it should be a reply to, but this doesn't work. I think theoretically it should be possible by fiddling with the mail headers after receiving the mail, but this doesn't seem to be a comfortable way.

• How to move the Windows 7 bootloader to the Windows 7 partition?

  I recently installed Windows 7 in a triple boot setup alongside XP and Linux. When I was finished and was in the process of restoring the bootloader for Linux I discovered something strange about what Windows 7 had done. I discovered that Windows 7 had not installed a bootloader to it's own partition, and instead had instead set up a bootloader on the pre-existing XP partition that offers a choice between 7 and XP. This behaviour has been noticed by others. Now my booting is slightly odd. I have GRUB on the MBR which lets me choose between Linux and Windows. When I select Windows I have Grub boot to the XP partition where I get the 2nd choice between 7 and XP. Why doesn't the Windows 7 installer put the Windows 7 bootloader on the Windows 7 partition like all previous MS OSs? This is now going to be a real problem for me, as I now want to wipe the XP partition and install something else there (probably another non-MS OS). How can I move the bootloader for Windows 7 onto the Windows 7 partition, thus making it bootable and allowing me to safely wipe the XP partition?

• How to move my data from my old MacBook Pro to my new one?

  I just purchased a new MacBook Pro and already got an 2008 model. I wonder how I move all my data over to the new one. My first idea was, to use my Time Machine backup and restore from it, which seems to be a good idea and should work just fine regarding to this link: http://blog.duncandavidson.com/2008/01/restoring-from-time-machine.html. But, since my current MacBook got older Software on it, like iLife '08 instead of iLife '09 I would have to upgrade this afterwards. Is this correct, or does Time Machine does some magic to exclude well known software? And is it possible to reinstall or upgrade iLife with the included installation DVDs? My second idea is, to just swap the hard drives instead of using the Time machine backup. If it is not too complicated to remove the hdd, this should be the fastest way. This also has the benefit, that the 2008er MacBook then contains a brand new installation and I don't have to remove all my stuff or reinstall Mac OS before I give it away. My question on that second idea would be: does snow leopard handle this stuff correctly? I reboot with the new hardware and all just works fine? So in a nutshell: What would you do: restore from backup or swap drives? And what about the new software?
