  • JQuery LiveValidations with Rails

    - by Shripad K
    I am using this plugin: http://wiki.github.com/augustl/live-validations/ to check if the form field entered is valid or not. How do i disable the live validation for keypress and instead make it only fire when the submit button is clicked?

  • check if a line is valid or not in Java

    - by Adnan
    I would like to perform checking on the following: VALID LINES; /**/ some code */ some code /** dsfsdkf sd**/ NOT VALID LINES; /**/ //some code */ /***/ //somecode So basically if there is a line of code outside a comment it is valid, otherwise not. What would be the best way to tackle this kind of validation? Note: For */ I assume that the /* has been opened some lines before.

  • Any tools or techniques for validating constraints programmatically between databases?

    - by Brandon
    If you had two databases, that had two tables between them that would normally implement a one to one (or many to many) constraint but cannot since they are separate databases, how would you validate this relationship in an application or test? Is there a simple way to do this? For example, a tool or technique that can, given a constraint type, tables and fields, does the validation. I imagine that this isn't the first time this come up so I'm hoping people can share their solution. Thanks.

  • ASP.Net - validating email address with regexp?

    - by ElHaix
    When validating an email address with the regex validation component, an additional RequiredFieldValidator must be added to ensure there is a value present. I've mostly taken care of this with a CustomFieldValidator, and taking care of this with Javascript. Is there a better way of doing this?

  • Why 10675199.02:48:05.4775807 TimeSpan Maximum for CompilationSection?

    - by Alex
    I was looking at the metadata for System.Web.Configuration.CompilationSection, and noticed the following attribute on the TimeSpan BatchTimeout property: [TimeSpanValidator(MinValueString = "00:00:00", MaxValueString = "10675199.02:48:05.4775807")] Could someone explain why this is the allowed max value? TimeSpan itself has an upper limit, so why would there be another value validation, and why this number?

  • asp.net mvc xval validation

    - by mctayl
    Hi there I am using xval for the first time, it seems to work fine for required fields, However I am having some issues first of all it does not seem to validate booleans and also client validation is not working for me, this is not a major issue for me, the one that I really need to work is the stringlength property. It seems to do something because the form is not posted when the string length is exceeded, however no error message is displayed to the user which is obviously not what I want, has anyone been able to do this successfully? My model goes like this using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Web; using System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations; namespace PitchPortal.Core { public class DocumentMetadata { //[Required] // public bool visibility { get; set; } [Required,StringLength(10, ErrorMessage = "title is too long")] public string title { get; set; } [Required, StringLength(10, ErrorMessage = "description is too long")] public string description { get; set; } [Required, StringLength(10, ErrorMessage = "summary is too long")] public string summary { get; set; } } } the html goes like this <div id="results" title="Upload results"/> <form id="myForm" action="<%=Url.Action("New") %>" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data"> <% Html.EnableClientValidation(); %> <%= Html.ValidationSummary() %> <table> <tr> <td> <%=Html.Label("File")%></td> <td> <input type="file" id="file1" name="fileUpload" /> <br /> <%=Html.SubmitButton<DocumentController>(x => x.Upload(), "GetImage", "")%> </td> <td> <%=Html.ValidationMessage("file1")%> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <%=Html.Label("Visible")%></td> <td> <%= Html.RadioButton( "visibility",true,true) %>true <%= Html.RadioButton("visibility", false)%>false </td> <td> <%= Html.ValidationMessage("visibility")%> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <%=Html.Label("Title")%></td> <td> <%=Html.TextBox("doc.title")%></td> <td> <%= Html.ValidationMessage("doc.title")%></td> </tr> <tr> <td> <%=Html.Label("Description")%></td> <td><%= Html.TextArea("doc.description")%></td> <td><%= Html.ValidationMessage("doc.description")%></td> </tr> <tr> <td> <%=Html.Label("Summary")%></td> <td> <%= Html.TextArea("doc.summary")%></td> <td> <%= Html.ValidationMessage("doc.summary")%></td> </tr> <tr> <td> <%=Html.Label("Filetype")%></td> <td> <%= Html.DropDownList("Filetype_id", (IEnumerable<SelectListItem>)ViewData.Model.AllFiletypesList)%> </td> <td> <%= Html.ValidationMessage("doc.Filetype_id")%> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <%=Html.Label("Category")%></td> <td><%= Html.DropDownList("cat.parent_id", (IEnumerable<SelectListItem>)ViewData.Model.AllCategoriesList, "-please select item-", new { className = "unselected" })%> </td> <td><%= Html.ValidationMessage("cat.parent_id")%> </td> </tr> <% if (Session["TempFolder"] == null) { for (int i = 1; i < 6; i++) { %> <tr> <td> <%=Html.Label("Shot "+i.ToString()) %> </td> <td><input type="file" id="image_<%= i.ToString() %>" name="image_<%= i.ToString() %>" /></td> </tr> <% } }%> <tr> <td><input type="submit" value="save"/></td> </tr> </table> </form> </div>

  • php validation code format

    - by user2970887
    Okay I have this MySQL database form and am trying to add validation to it. After 2 days of fighting with it, I thought I would get some advice. Would like that the selected item from dropdown and Firstname, Phone, Email, are all required. Then I want to verify that the data in the Firstname, Lastname, Phone (doesn't have to be any special format), Email and Comments are all acceptable formats before putting in database. Here is what I have so far: <?php include('inc_header.php'); if(isset($_POST['add'])) { require('dbcon.php'); if(! get_magic_quotes_gpc() ) { $Id = addslashes ($_POST['Id']); $List = addslashes ($_POST['List']); $Firstname = addslashes ($_POST['Firstname']); $Lastname = addslashes ($_POST['Lastname']); $Phone = addslashes ($_POST['Phone']); $Email= addslashes ($_POST['Email']); $Calltime = addslashes ($_POST['Calltime']); $Comment = addslashes ($_POST['Comment']); } else { $Id = $_POST['Id']; $Date = $_POST['Date']; $List = $_POST['List']; $Firstname = $_POST['Firstname']; $Lastname = $_POST['Lastname']; $Phone = $_POST['Phone']; $Email = $_POST['Email']; $Calltime = $_POST['Calltime']; $Comment = $_POST['Comment']; } $error = ''; //put chosen function here function validate_Firstname($input, $pattern = "/([A-Za-z0-9])") { return !preg_match($pattern, $input); } function validate_Phone($input, $pattern = "/([A-Za-z0-9])") { return !preg_match($pattern, $input); } function isValidEmail( $Email ){ return filter_var( $Email, FILTER_VALIDATE_EMAIL ); } //get values and validate each one as required $List = mysql_real_escape_string($_POST['List']); if(!$List){ $error .= "Please choose one<br />"; } $Firstname = mysql_real_escape_string($_POST['Firstname']); if(!$Firstname){ $error .= "First name is required<br />"; } //get values and validate each one as required $Lastname = mysql_real_escape_string($_POST['Lastname']); if(!$Lastname){ $error .= "Last name is required<br />"; } //repeat for each field $Email = mysql_real_escape_string($_POST['Email']); if(!isValidEmail($Email)){ $error .= "The email entered is invalid<br />"; } //and so on... if(!$error){ //add insert into database code here $sql = "INSERT INTO contacts ". "(`Id`,`Date`,`List`,`Firstname`,`Lastname`,`Phone`,`Email`,`Calltime`,`Comment`)". "VALUES'$Id,','$Date','$List','$Firstname','$Lastname','$Phone','$Email','$Calltime','$Comment') "; mysql_select_db('hmintcwa_contacts'); $retval = mysql_query( $sql, $conn ); if(! $retval ) { die('Could not enter data: ' . mysql_error()); } echo "Entered data successfully<br /><br /><a href=contactsadd.php><font color=#000000>Back</font></a>\n"; mysql_close($conn); } else { ?> <form method="post" action="<?php echo htmlspecialchars($_SERVER["PHP_SELF"]);?>" name="ContactForm"> <table bgcolor="#000000" width="500" cellpadding="5" cellspacing="1" border="0"> <input type="hidden" name="Id" id="Id"> <tr> <td bgcolor="#e9e9e9" align="right">Requested Info</td> <td bgcolor="#ffffff" align="left"><select name="List"> <option value="0" > Please Choose One </option> <option value="Market Analysis" > Market Analysis </option> <option value="Consultation" > Consultation </option></select></td></tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#e9e9e9" align="right">Date</td> <input name="Date" type="hidden" id="Date" value="<? print(Date("l F d, Y")); ?>" /> <td bgcolor="#ffffff" align="left"><? print(Date("l F d, Y")); ?></td> </tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#e9e9e9" align="right">Firstname</td> <td bgcolor="#ffffff" align="left"><input name="Firstname" type="text" size="20" id="Firstname"></td></tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#e9e9e9" align="right">Lastname</td> <td bgcolor="#ffffff" align="left"><input type="text" name="Lastname" size="20" id="Lastname"></td> </tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#e9e9e9" align="right">Phone</td> <td bgcolor="#ffffff" align="left"><input type="text" name="Phone" size="20" id="Phone"></td></tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#e9e9e9" align="right">Email</td> <td bgcolor="#ffffff" align="left"><input type="text" name="Email" size="20" id="Email"></td></tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#e9e9e9" align="right">Preferred Calltime</td> <td bgcolor="#ffffff" align="left"><input type="text" name="Calltime" size="20" id="Calltime"> &nbsp;&nbsp; If none put N/A</td></tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#e9e9e9" align="right">Comment</td> <td bgcolor="#ffffff" align="left"><textarea name="Comment" cols="40" rows="8" id="Comment"></textarea></td></tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#e9e9e9" align="right">&nbsp;</td> <td bgcolor="#ffffff" align="center"><br> <input name="add" type="submit" id="add" value="Add Contact"><input type="reset" name="Reset" value="Clear Form"><input type=button value="Cancel" onClick="history.go(-1)"><br>&nbsp; </td> </tr> </table> </form> <br>&nbsp;</center> <?php } ?> </body> </html> So far I just keep chasing error message. Please forgive formatting I am trying to learn be gentle.

  • Object validator - is this good design?

    - by neo2862
    I'm working on a project where the API methods I write have to return different "views" of domain objects, like this: namespace View.Product { public class SearchResult : View { public string Name { get; set; } public decimal Price { get; set; } } public class Profile : View { public string Name { get; set; } public decimal Price { get; set; } [UseValidationRuleset("FreeText")] public string Description { get; set; } [SuppressValidation] public string Comment { get; set; } } } These are also the arguments of setter methods in the API which have to be validated before storing them in the DB. I wrote an object validator that lets the user define validation rulesets in an XML file and checks if an object conforms to those rules: [Validatable] public class View { [SuppressValidation] public ValidationError[] ValidationErrors { get { return Validator.Validate(this); } } } public static class Validator { private static Dictionary<string, Ruleset> Rulesets; static Validator() { // read rulesets from xml } public static ValidationError[] Validate(object obj) { // check if obj is decorated with ValidatableAttribute // if not, return an empty array (successful validation) // iterate over the properties of obj // - if the property is decorated with SuppressValidationAttribute, // continue // - if it is decorated with UseValidationRulesetAttribute, // use the ruleset specified to call // Validate(object value, string rulesetName, string FieldName) // - otherwise, get the name of the property using reflection and // use that as the ruleset name } private static List<ValidationError> Validate(object obj, string fieldName, string rulesetName) { // check if the ruleset exists, if not, throw exception // call the ruleset's Validate method and return the results } } public class Ruleset { public Type Type { get; set; } public Rule[] Rules { get; set; } public List<ValidationError> Validate(object property, string propertyName) { // check if property is of type Type // if not, throw exception // iterate over the Rules and call their Validate methods // return a list of their return values } } public abstract class Rule { public Type Type { get; protected set; } public abstract ValidationError Validate(object value, string propertyName); } public class StringRegexRule : Rule { public string Regex { get; set; } public StringRegexRule() { Type = typeof(string); } public override ValidationError Validate(object value, string propertyName) { // see if Regex matches value and return // null or a ValidationError } } Phew... Thanks for reading all of this. I've already implemented it and it works nicely, and I'm planning to extend it to validate the contents of IEnumerable fields and other fields that are Validatable. What I'm particularly concerned about is that if no ruleset is specified, the validator tries to use the name of the property as the ruleset name. (If you don't want that behavior, you can use [SuppressValidation].) This makes the code much less cluttered (no need to use [UseValidationRuleset("something")] on every single property) but it somehow doesn't feel right. I can't decide if it's awful or awesome. What do you think? Any suggestions on the other parts of this design are welcome too. I'm not very experienced and I'm grateful for any help. Also, is "Validatable" a good name? To me, it sounds pretty weird but I'm not a native English speaker.

  • Django - How best to handle ValidationErrors after form.save(commit=False)

    - by orokusaki
    This is a fragment of my code from a view: if form.is_valid(): instance = form.save(commit=False) try: instance.account = request.account instance.full_clean() except ValidationError, e: # Do something with the errors here... I don't know what the best thing to do here is, but I certainly don't want to do it 180 times. This is an utter mess. Who would want to handle validation errors manually in every view. If you're not modifying the instance after save(commit=False), you don't have to worry about this, but what about in my case where every model has a foreign key to account which is set behind the scenes and hidden from the user? Any help is really appreciated.

  • ASP.NET MVC - ValidationMessageFor

    - by Murat
    Hi, I have asked this question on asp.net forums (http://forums.asp.net/t/1545006.aspx) but i had no valid answer therefore i'll try this here as well. I was working on migrating MVC1 app to MVC2 today and i have come across a problem while changing the ValidationMessage to ValidationMessageFor implementation. The below is the selectlist in my View <%=Html.DropDownListFor(model => model.SecurityQuestions[0].Question, "Some Security question", new { @class = "form_element_select" })%> The below code works fine and i can see the validation message came from modelstate. <%= Html.ValidationMessage("SecurityQuestions_0__Question")%> but this one does not work: <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.SecurityQuestions[0].Question)%> SecurityQuestions is a generic list in my model public List<SecurityQuestion> SecurityQuestions { get; set; } Is this somewhat a bug in "ValidationMessageFor" or am i missing something here?

  • ASP.NET: Dynamically enable or disable RequiredFieldValidator based on value of DropDownList

    - by Jeremy
    I have an ASP.NET form with three text inputs, one each for "Work Phone", "Home Phone" and "Cell Phone". Each of these text inputs has a RequiredFieldValidator associated with it. I also have a DropDownList where the user can select the preferred phone type. I want to only require the field that is selected in the DropDownList. For example, if the user selects "Work Phone" from the DropDownList, I want to disable the RequiredFieldValidator for "Home Phone" and "Cell Phone", thereby only making the "Work Phone" field required. I have a method that enables and disables these validators based on the value of the DropDownList, but I cannot figure out when to call it. I want this method to run before the validation takes place on the page. How would I do that? Let me know if you need any more information. Thanks.
