  • Display custom file format's metadata in Windows Explorer

    When viewing a jpg or mp3 in Windows Explorer, the bottom pane shows metadata from the media file. Furthermore, for video and picture, the icon is shown as a preview of the media. Is there a way to add this kind of functionality to windows for custom file types that aren't supported by default in windows? Is there a certain sort of plugin or extension that must be written? If so, how is it implemented? Thank you.

    Hello All, I am creating a string containing HTML tags and some data and storing it in 2 diff formats ( eng and Jp) and finally saving complete stirng using streamwriter in a file as HTML. Output written in English is perfect but JP output is not coming as expected ? Issue: I need to display proper JP char in the output, as of now thay are not appearing as expected..any suggestion ?     I want to migrate my blog from my own dotnetnuke site to another host (like blogger, posterous etc). Do you know any such host that supports importing from dotnetnuke. Posterous supports importing using MetaWebLog API, which is supposed to be supported by dotnetnuke blog module. I tried it but it does not work. I always get 'We were not able to authenticate this account' message from Posterous, altough at the same time I can post to my dnn blog using Word and MetaWebLog API.

    Are there any tools that can verify whether a jQuery plugin will be compatible with the latest version of jQuery? Once a large number of jQuery plugins are selected and in use, an unknown number of dependencies can develop. It would be nice to upgrade jQuery, however not all plugins remain supported or provide consistently architected upgrades. The only option seems to be adhoc manual regression testing. It would be nice to have a strategy for dealing with this issue.

    I am porting some functionality from a C++ application to java. This involves reading non-modifiable data files that contain regular expressions. A lot of the data files contain regular expressions that look similar to the following: (?<=id="VIEWSTATE".*?value=").*?(?=") These regular expressions produce the following error: "Look-behind group does not have an obvious maximum length near index XX" In C++ the engine being used supported these expressions. Is there another form of regexp that can produce the same result that can be generated using expressions like my example as input?

    I am looking to use ogg vorbis, instead of mp3s to stream audio. It seems that Flash player does not natively support ogg. Is there a codec engine that can be embedded with the app itself that can play .ogg instead of .mp3? In general, what would be a better format than mp3 for streaming audio and that is supported by Flash?

    We're approaching a point of replacing several of our developer PCs and would like to move up to 64-Bit to maximize the hardware/life of the PCs but we also need to support several legacy VB6 applications. That said, does the VB6 IDE run on Windows 7 64-bit? Microsoft says it's not supported, but that doesn't necessarily mean it doesn't work. Does it work? Are there any pitfalls/workarounds needed to get it running?

    I am attempting to wipe and repopulate test data on SQL CE. I am getting an error due to FK constraints existing. Typically in Sql2005 I would ALTER TABLE [tablename] CHECK/NOCHECK CONSTRAINT ALL to enable/disable all constraints. From what I could find in my searching, it seems that this might not be supported in CE. Is that true? If so, is there an alternative?

    Hi I've recently installed VS2010 and I'm trying to upgrade a project that I created using VS2008 and WSSF (Web Service Software Factory). I've installed the 2010 version of WSSF and it's prerequisites. After upgrading, when I try to load the solution I get "blah.ssfproduct cannot be opened because its project type (.ssfproduct) is not supported by this version of the application".
