• Should I use IDisposable for purely managed resources?

  Here is the scenario: I have an object called a Transaction that needs to make sure that only one entity has permission to edit it at any given time. In order to facilitate a long-lived lock, I have the class generating a token object that can be used to make the edits. You would use it like this: var transaction = new Transaction(); using (var tlock = transaction.Lock()) { transaction.Update(data, tlock); } Now, I want the TransactionLock class to implement IDisposable so that its usage can be clear. But, I don't have any unmanaged resources to dispose. however, the TransctionLock object itself is a sort of "unmanaged resource" in the sense that the CLR doesn't know how to properly finalize it. All of this would be fine and dandy, I would just use IDisposable and be done with it. However, my issue comes when I try to do this in the finalizer: ~TransactionLock() { this.Dispose(false); } I want the finalizer to release the transaction from the lock, if possible. How, in the finalizer, do I detect if the parent transaction (this.transaction) has already been finalized? Is there a better pattern I should be using?   I am using the Google Client API and the GoogleAuthUtil.class to get access to the user's Google Drive Account. • Java Scanner newline parsing with regex (Bug?)

  I'm developing a syntax analyzer by hand in Java, and I'd like to use regex's to parse the various token types. The problem is that I'd also like to be able to accurately report the current line number, if the input doesn't conform to the syntax. Long story short, I've run into a problem when I try to actually match a newline with the Scanner class. To be specific, when I try to match a newline with a pattern using the Scanner class, it fails. Almost always. But when I perform the same matching using a Matcher and the same source string, it retrieves the newline exactly as you'd expect it too. Is there a reason for this, that I can't seem to discover, or is this a bug, as I suspect? FYI: I was unable to find a bug in the Sun database that describes this issue, so if it is a bug, it hasn't been reported. After I authenticate it send me back to my page and then quickly sends me back to the authenticate page again. • Getting Public Info about Location in Facebook Graph API

  I need to get the living city of each person in a group. Including people that are not my friends. In the browser seeing facebook profile of some unknown person, they show "lives in ...", if this is set as public information. They include the link to the city object with the city id in the link. That's all that I need. But, using a facebook app that I created to use the facebook graph api, this information is not public. I can only get the user propriety 'location' from friends of my that I have permission to see it. I gave ALL the possible permissions to my app. In the api explorer, when I use it as REST, they show few informations about someone not friend of mine. https://developers.facebook.com/tools/explorer/ Also in the api explorer, when I use the FQL, it didn't works. This query works, returning the JSON with the data: SELECT uid, name FROM user WHERE username='...'; But this other query doesn't work: SELECT uid, name, location FROM user WHERE username='...'; They return a json with a error code: { "error": { "message": "(#602) location is not a member of the user table.", "type": "OAuthException", "code": 602 } } I asked for ALL the permissions options in the token. And I can get this info in the browser version of the facebook. But how can I get it with the API ?

• Flash - Http service bound to a button can be used only once ?

  I have a flex project, in one of the screen of my UI, I create a HTTP service that call a "doGet" J2EE servlet through the GET method; and I bind the service call to a button. The service print log to system.out so I know when it is run. The problem I have is, when I click said button the first time, the servlets do what it is supposed to do, and print the stack to system.out, but if I click another time, nothing happens. Any idea what might be the cause ? • How to manually set an authenticated user in Spring Security / SpringMVC

  After a new user submits a 'New account' form, I want to manually log that user in so they don't have to login on the subsequent page. The normal form login page going through the spring security interceptor works just fine. In the new-account-form controller I am creating a UsernamePasswordAuthenticationToken and setting it in the SecurityContext manually: SecurityContextHolder.getContext().setAuthentication(authentication); On that same page I later check that the user is logged in with: SecurityContextHolder.getContext().getAuthentication().getAuthorities(); This returns the authorities I set earlier in the authentication. All is well. But when this same code is called on the very next page I load, the authentication token is just UserAnonymous. I'm not clear why it did not keep the authentication I set on the previous request. Any thoughts? Could it have to do with session ID's not being set up correctly? Is there something that is possibly overwriting my authentication somehow? Perhaps I just need another step to save the authentication? Or is there something I need to do to declare the authentication across the whole session rather than a single request somehow? Just looking for some thoughts that might help me see what's happening here.

• How can I execute an ANTLR parser action for each item in a rule that can match more than one item?

  I am trying to write an ANTLR parser rule that matches a list of things, and I want to write a parser action that can deal with each item in the list independently. Some example input for these rules is: $(A1 A2 A3) I'd like this to result in an evaluator that contains a list of three MyIdentEvaluator objects -- one for each of A1, A2, and A3. Here's a snippet of my grammar: my_list returns [IEvaluator e] : { $e = new MyListEvaluator(); } '$' LPAREN op=my_ident+ { /* want to do something here for each 'my_ident'. */ /* the following seems to see only the 'A3' my_ident */ $e.Add($op.e); } RPAREN ; my_ident returns [IEvaluator e] : IDENT { $e = new MyIdentEvaluator($IDENT.text); } ; I think my_ident is defined correctly, because I can see the three MyIdentEvaluators getting created as expected for my input string, but only the last my_ident ever gets added to the list (A3 in my example input). How can I best treat each of these elements independently, either through a grammar change or a parser action change? It also occurred to me that my vocabulary for these concepts is not what it should be, so if it looks like I'm misusing a term, I probably am. EDIT in response to Wayne's comment: I tried to use op+=my_ident+. In that case, the $op in my action becomes an IList (in C#) that contains Antlr.Runtime.Tree.CommonTree instances. It does give me one entry per matched token in $op, so I see my three matches, but I don't have the MyIdentEvaluator instances that I really want. I was hoping I could then find a rule attribute in the ANTLR docs that might help with this, but nothing seemed to help me get rid of this IList. Result... Based on chollida's answer, I ended up with this which works well: my_list returns [IEvaluator e] : { $e = new MyListEvaluator(); } '$' LPAREN (op=my_ident { $e.Add($op.e); } )+ RPAREN ; The Add method gets called for each match of my_ident.

• Digitally sign MS Office (Word, Excel, etc..) and PDF files on the server

  I need to digitally sign MS Office and PDF files that are stored on a server. I really mean a digital signature that is integrated in the document, according to each specific file formats. This is the process I had in mind : Create a hash of the file's content Send the hash to a custom written java applet in the browser The user encrypts the hash with his/her private key (on an usb token via PKCS#11 for example), thus effectively signing the file. The applet then sends the signature to the server On the server I would then incorporate the signature in the file's (MS Office and PDF files can do that without changing the file's content, probably by just setting some metadata field) What is cool is that you never have to download and upload the complete file to the server again. What is even cooler, the customer doesn't need Office or PDF Writer to sign the files. Parts 2, 3 and 4 are OK for me, my company bought all the JAVA technology I need for that for a previous project I worked on. Problem : I can't seem to find any documentation/examples to do parts 1 and 5 for Office files . Are my google skills failing me this time ? Do you have any pointers to documentation or examples for doing that for MS Office files ? The underlying technology isn't that important to me : I can use Java, .Net, COM, any working technology is OK ! Note : I'm 95% sure I can nail points 1 and 5 for PDF files using iText Thanks ** Edit : If I can't do that with hashes and must download the complete file to the client, it's also possible. • ColdFusion Session issue - multiple users behind one proxy IP -- cftoken and cfid seems to be shared

  Hi Everyone, I have an application that uses coldfusion's session management (instead of the J2EE) session management. We have one client, who has recently switched their company's traffic to us to come viaa proxy server in their network. So, to our Coldfusion server, it appears that all traffic is coming from this one IP Address, for all of the accounts of this one company.. Of the session variables, Part 1 is kept in a cflock, and Part 2 is kept in editable session variables. I may be misundestanding, but we have done it this way as we modify some values as needed throughout the application's usage. We are now running into an issue of this client having their session variables mixed up (?). We have one case where we set a timestamp.. and when it comes time to look it up, it's empty. From the looks of it this is happening because of another user on the same token. My initial thoughts are to look into modifying our existing session management to somehow generate a unique cftoken/cfid, or to start using jsession_ID, if this solves the problem at all. I have done some basic research on this issue and couldn't find anything similar, so I thought I'd ask here. Thanks!

• Axis2 SOAP Envelope Header Information

  I'm consuming a web service that places an authentication token in the SOAP envelope header. It appears (through looking at the samples that came with the WS WSDL) that if the stub is generated in .NET, this header information is exposed through a member variable in the stub class. However, when I generate my Axis2 java stub using WSDL2Java it doesn't appear to be exposed anywhere. What is the correct way to extract this information from the SOAP envelope header? • vs2008, opencv2.1,compile error in cxcore.hpp

  Hi, gurus: I installed opencv2.1, made a new project (proj_A) using vs2008, used it for my computer vision tasks, it works fine. I copied an old project (proj_B, also made using vs2008) from other PC, compile it with ".h" and ".lib" files copied from opencv1.0 (which I did not install onto my PC), it compiles fine. I re-directed ".h" and ".lib" files in proj_B to opencv2.1 folders instead, compiled the proj_B, and then I got these errors from cxcore.hpp: class CV_EXPORTS RNG { public: enum { A=4164903690U, UNIFORM=0, NORMAL=1 }; // errors here, line 936 errors are: 5c:\opencv2.1\include\opencv\cxcore.hpp(936) : error C2143: syntax error : missing '}' before 'constant' 5c:\opencv2.1\include\opencv\cxcore.hpp(936) : error C2059: syntax error : 'constant' 5c:\opencv2.1\include\opencv\cxcore.hpp(936) : error C2143: syntax error : missing ';' before '}' 5c:\opencv2.1\include\opencv\cxcore.hpp(936) : error C2238: unexpected token(s) preceding ';' (400+ similar errors, but I believe the answer should be the same, so only list 1 set here) I compared setting for proj_A and proj_B, made them identical, and find no improvement. proj_A works well, proj_B refuse to compile. • Communication with different social networks, strategy pattern?

  Hi For the last few days I've been thinking how I can solve the following programming problem and find the ideal, flexible programming structure. (note: I'm using Flash as my platform technology but that shouldn't matter since I'm just looking for the ideal design pattern). Our Flash website has multiple situations in which it has to communicate with different social networks (Facebook, Netlog and Skyrock). Now, the communication strategy doesn't have to change multiple times over one "run". The strategy should be picked once (at launch time) for that session. The real problem is the way the communication works between each social network and our website. Some networks force us to ask for a token, others force us to use a webservice, yet another forces us to set up its communication through javascript. The problem becomes more complicated when our website has to run in each network's canvas. Which results in even more (different) ways of communicating. To sum up, our website has to work in the following cases: standalone on the campaign website url (user chooses their favourite network) communicate with netlog OR communicate with facebook OR communicate with skyrock run in a netlog canvas and log in automatically (website checks for netlog parameters) run in a facebook canvas and log in automatically (website checks for facebook params) run in a skyrock canvas and log in automatically (website checks for skyrock params) As you can see, our website needs 6 different ways to communicate with a social network. To be honest, the actual significant difference between all communication strategies is the way they have to connect to their individual network (as stated above in my example). Posting an image, make a comment, ... is the same whether it runs standalone or in the canvas url. WARNING: posting an image, posting a comment DOES differ from network to network. Should I use the strategy pattern and make 6 different communication strategies or is there a better way? An example would be great but isn't required ;) Thanks in advance
