• Computer won't stay powered up

  I have just tried to turn my PC on this morning and it won't stay powered up. It will come on as normal for about 5 seconds, not quite long enough for the monitor to wake up. Then it will power off. After about 2 seconds it will start again, it will continue like this until I pull out the plug. Plugging it in again doesn't restart the cycle although pressing the power button does. I have tried to clear the cmos but beyond that I have no ideas. It was working perfectly when I put it in hibernate last night.

• Retry failed downloads - Google Music Manager

  After my old computer died I wanted to download my music collection from Google Music - which is very easy with Googles Music Manager. After a few hours it had downloaded my library, but also showed around 300 download errors. Downloading the library another time, however, made different files fail (Which tells me that the error isn't connected to the files as such). Does anybody know of a way how to retry only the songs that failed downloading?

• Forcing Windows to be 'awake' during certain hours?

  I'm running Windows 7 and have the power options currently set up to put the machine to sleep after 2 hours of inactivity. Is there any way to force the machine not to sleep between certain hours, or to automatically wake up? I'm assuming this can't be done directly from within the Windows power settings, but is there a third party utility (preferably free) that could take care of this? I've got backups scheduled every morning at 3-4am, and these don't run if the machine is suspended, so I just need to make sure that the everything is powered up during this time.

I've kept these files in different folders, and now find it extremely hard to find them, and keeping track of obselete files (the almost weekly releases of iTunes versions, or latest 7zip release or the .Net framework installers). What I would like to find is a file manager that could support tags, so instead of hierachical folders, i could find\view files according to their tags...

• Why won't my computer turn off?

  I have recently replaced my old Corsair TX650M PSU with a new CoolerMaster Silent Pro Gold 800w PSU. With the old PSU when I turned off my computer from windows it would shut down and everything would turn off. The lights would turn off and the fans would stop turning. With my new power supply when I shut down windows It shows the usual shutting down dialog then my two monitors say "no signal" and turn off. The weird part however is that the lights stay on and the fans continue spinning forever until I manually hold the power button in for 4 seconds then finally everything shuts off. How can I emulate the previous behavior?

• No SATA drives after PSU Upgrade

  I know this sounds a lot like this but I just confirmed that my MBR is fine as well as the SSD drive in question. What happened: I upgraded my be-quiet 700w PSU to the 1000w dark power pro. When I tried booting the system and none of the drives (all SATA) were detected, resulting in the "Boot device failure" error. After that I unplugged all but the boot drive, triple checked that all cables were in fact nice and tight inside their sockets, replaced both e-SATA and power cables ; still with the same outcome. Finally I reconnected my old PSU and sure enough the PC booted without any hassle (except of course for the direful construction that is currently occupying my desk). Does anybody have any advice on how to proceed? Surely, it is possible the PSU is faulty but are there other explanations?   I'm wanting to use the asterisk manager api to show the status of all my SIP lines in a PHP web interface. I thought I'd start simple and use telnet to see it working. So I created a user in /etc/asterisk/manager.conf [portal] secret = password read = all,system,call,log,verbose,command,agent,user Then telnet to localhost on port 5038 This is what I get. asterisk ~ # telnet localhost 5038 Trying 127.0.0.1... Connected to localhost. Escape character is '^]'. Asterisk Call Manager/1.0 Action: login Username: portal Secret: 8u9sdgk Events: off Response: Success Message: Authentication accepted Action: SIPPeers Response: Error Message: Permission denied Why am I getting permission denied? I thought the user has basically full access? Do I need to restart asterisk to make this work? I didn't restart it. On the other hand, I was able to log in which makes me think that the manager.conf has been reloaded as the portal user didn't exist before. Any ideas?

I'm not sure what I did to my Eclipse set-up to hose it but now I'm getting a java.lang.ClassNotFoundException when I try to run some code that accesses the google finance api.   i have written following code, which should work with my logic, but it does not. I should check if given term is power of two. For example s(s(s(nul))) should return false, s(s(s(s(nul))) should return true. substractWhileY(X,0,rezult). substractWhileY(s(X),Y,rezult):- Y > 0, number is 1, substractWhileY(X,Y - number, rezult). degreeOftwo(X):- substractWhileY(X,2,rezult), pagalba(X, 2, rezult). calculateAnswer(X, currentCounter, currentValue):- currentCounter is currentCounter * 2, substractWhileY(currentValue, currentCounter , rezult), rezult\= null, calculateAnswer(X, currentCounter , rezult). My idea was to check if given therm is degree of any two and if it is not than it is not the degree of two. With numbers it should work like this. For example i give number 8. First time it checks if 8 - 2 = 0. second time if 8 - 4 = 0. third time if 8 - 8 = 0. so the 8 id power of two. Maybe other solution would work better, so thanks for any help.

• Reverse WiFi to Broadcast connection coming from a USB device

  I am using the app called Clockworkmod Tether. It connects using a script ( command line " gksu ./run.sh " ) on the computer. All my programs connect to the internet perfectly, minitube, midori, transmission torrents. But the network manager does not show any connection, wired or wireless. So this may cause issues? What I want to do is take this connection, and be able to share it some way, any way, by wireless. This Acer Timeline "Aspire 5810TZ" does have an Ethernet, so wired out to a router might be an option. But I would prefer to simply reverse the Wireless card to broadcast out to about 2 or 3 devices. Is this possible? Yes I have taken a look at the other questions already posted here, but the answers are 1 year old or older, and not clear at all. I am moderately comfortable (4.5 out of 10 ) on the command line. But pretty much need line by line directions for what commands are needed and what order, ect. Edit I have already tried the method of "Left click network manager, Create New Wireless Network" It is created fine, and I am able to connect to it with a tablet, but am un-able to get an outside connection with it. Using the "Shared to other computers" option because DHCP doesn't seem to work, and WEP Passphrase Security. I get an IP address on the connected device. But as I said, won't bring up any outside webpages or the like. So perhaps this is the wrong approach?

• Wired connection problem through router

  I'm having trouble to connect my Ubuntu 11.10 to internet through ethernet. I installed a router to get Wi-Fi and now (by a wired connection) I can't have internet with ubuntu (but I can with Windows 7). I see several attempts per minute of the network-manager to get a connection, but after a minute it stops trying. A couple of things I see and did: I see no inet addr, only inet6. I ignored ipv6 from the internet connections, and restarted the network-manager service and nothing. A difference with the post I mentioned is the RX packets with errors I have, is this a clue of the problem? Any help would be appreciated, Thanks!

• How to schedule time-of-day upgrades

  Hello, I'm responsible for about 30 Ubuntu computers at a private K-8 school. We have only a 3Mbps internet connection serving the entire campus, and I would like to ensure that updates are done in the middle of the night - so that daytime tasks are not slowed down. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04, and have set all computers to download and install security updates via the update manager. I have also installed cron-apt, and modified the config file to stagger the start times of the upgrades from about 10pm to 4am local time. HOWEVER - this morning I arrived at the school at 7:30am and all the computers were busy downloading a large security based update. Needless to say, all internet activity was slowed to a crawl (for the next 2 hours), and the computer users were very very upset. This was the event I'm trying so hard to prevent. It seems that my scheme to ensure middle of the night downloads failed, and I'm not sure why. I've also tried some schemes using unattended-upgrades & crontab, but there always seemed to be something scheduling upgrades to occur in addition to the ones I try to force at middle of the night. Is there a sure fire way to absolutely positively guarantee that updates will occur only at one specific time? It would be nice if the update manager just had a drop down menu to specify a designated time. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

• Ethernet Connection Unavailable

  I'm running Ubuntu Server 12.04 on a laptop with an Intel NIC (driver e1000e). When I connect the ethernet port to the internet (college network, DHCP) it works out of the box. Now I'm trying to connect it to a networked USRP (if you want to know what it is). A friend of mine managed to do this in his laptop (running regular Ubuntu 12.04) just by setting up a new Wired connection in the Network Manager with appropriate addresses. However, when I do the same, no wired connections are available. The output of nmcli -p dev is =========================================== Status of devices =========================================== DEVICE TYPE STATE ------------------------------------------- wlan0 802-11-wireless connected eth0 802-3-ethernet unavailable but the cable is connected to the device and the device is powered up. Any idea how to solve this? UPDATE: After stopping the network-manager service, setting up the connection manually and starting the service again, it now detects the ethernet connection. However, the device still can't receive data and doesn't answer to pings. UPDATE 2: As suggested I tried using a cross over cable but the result is exactly the same. However, I found out that connecting the device to the dock (as opposed to directly to the laptop) works fine. I know that the ethernet port in the laptop works fine, because connecting to the network through it works. Is it possible that the port in the laptop doesn't support Gb Ethernet (because that's what the device requires) but the one in the dock does?

• Updating to linux-image-3.2.0-26-generic occupies all disk space

  I just ran a normal update through the update manager that wanted to update me to linux-image-3.2.0-26-generic. The installation paused halfway with a message that the root was full. I checked the disk usage, and noticed that one of the newly installed files: /lib/modules/3.2.0-26-generic/modules.ccwmap took up 63GB(!). Compared to the previous version: /lib/modules/3.2.0-24-generic/modules.ccwmap that took up only 4KB it seems like something went awfully wrong! As mentioned the update was paused when i ran out of disk space. There is no option in the update dialog to cancel or perform rollback on the update. Is it asking for trouble to kill the update manager? Any ideas as to what went wrong, and what I can do to remedy it? It's only minimal how much space I can free on that partition (without deleting the above mentioned file). If it is any help, the update was paused after this: Examining /etc/kernel/postinst.d. run-parts: executing /etc/kernel/postinst.d/dkms 3.2.0-26-generic /boot/vmlinuz-3.2.0-26-generic

• What could possibly cause my computer to power down at random times?

  I have recently bought a new Power Supply and a new graphics card. My PC ran smoothly for a few months now but since a couple of days I'm having a strange problem. I am trying to isolate the problem to a specific piece of hardware (because if it's either the Power Supply or the Graphics card they are still under warranty). The problem started when I was playing a game (diablo 3). My PC suddenly powered down. I was unable to turn it on again by pressing the power button. I unplugged the power cable for a few seconds and plugged it back in. This time the pc powered on but the indication light turned orange instead of white as it normally does. The fans were not spinning and I did not see anything on my screen. After trying a couple of times I gave up. Two days later I tried again and this time the PC did boot up as usual. Everything looked okay until I tested if the problem was resolved by starting Diablo again. After about two minutes it powered down again as it did the first time. If I don't run any games my PC does power down after about 3-5 hours. Another fact that might be relevant: One time the PC did not shut down immediatly, instead first my graphics "powered down" but the music I was playing kept on playing. After about 20 seconds the pc powered down completely as usual. What I also noticed is that when I boot instantly after a power down, the chance of another power down occuring is much higher. Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this kind of behaviour or has a certain tool to diagnose the specific hardware parts? • NO USB devices show in windows 8.1 device manager

  Whatever I plug into my USB ports will get power and will charge but will not connect to the computer. I have restarted the computer several times, I re-installed the chipset drivers and still even a USB HDD will not show up under the device manager, not even as an unknown device. I believe this happened because I switched android adb to listen on tcpip rather than USB as this is when the USB ports stopped working. I have set it back to USB but that hasn't seemed to correct the issue. It seems to me that ADB has shut off detection of devices through USB and I am out of ideas and can't find anything useful online. I would prefer not to have to reinstall windows unless I really have to but it is looking like that is exactly what I am going to have to do. I am using windows 8.1. Thanks

• Can't find AVD or SDK manager in Eclipse

  Seems like I'm having some problems after updating my android sdk tools and platform-tools using the sdk manager. The problem is that, after updating, I found that the avd or sdk options in the windows dropdown menu in eclipse are gone! And, I can't find any option to create an android project from file-new projects any more. I tried removing the ADT from eclipse and the software site "https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/" from "available software sites" and then reinstalled the ADT from "https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/" using help-install new software. The installation was successful, but I still don't have any option for shortcuts to the SDK manager or the AVD in eclipse, and neither can I create a new android project. By the way, the android perspectives are not gone, they are still here. Also, I can manually open the avd and sdk manager from the directory where I have installed them. Can anyone please show me a workaround? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  I would need to connect to Oracle DB in my PHP codes. I'm using Windows Server 2012, IIS 8 with PHP Manager. I opened IIS PHP Manager, then go to PHP Extensions, then I enabled "php_oci8.dll" extension. However when I tried to connect to Oracle DB I'm getting the following PHP error: PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function oci_connect() I just restarted the IIS using the IIS Manager, but didn't done computer reboot. Do I need to reboot? Do I also need to download "instantclient-basic-windows.x64-12.1.0.1.0.zip"? If yes, do I just need to set it to classpath "Path" where I extracted?
