• Using gmail as SMTP server in Java web app is slow

  Hi, I was wondering if anyone might be able to explain to me why it's taking nearly 30 seconds each time my Java web app sends an email using Gmail's SMTP server? See the following timestamps: 13/04/2010-22:24:27:281 DEBUG test.service.impl.SynchronousEmailService - Before sending mail. 13/04/2010-22:24:52:625 DEBUG test.service.impl.SynchronousEmailService - After sending mail. I'm using spring's JavaMailSender class with the following settings: email.host=smtp.gmail.com [email protected] email.password=mypassword email.port=465 mail.smtp.auth.required=true Note that the mail is getting sent and I'm receiving it fine, there's just this delay which is resulting in a slow experience for the application user. If you know how I can diagnose the problem myself that would be good too :)

• Double hop SQL delegation not working

  I've been trying to diagnose this for some time, and unfortunately Im still getting the dreaded anonymous logon issue when trying to connect to a sql db as a domain user. Steps taken: App Pool created with delegation service acct Site / Virtual dir running with Integrated Windows auth only Made sure site itself can use kerberos KB 215383 Service acct added to IIS_WPG group Service acct added to "act as part of operating system" under Local Security settings Service acct added to Log on as service under Local Security Settings HTTP SPN set for web address + service account (and FQDN) MSSQLSvc SPN set for sql box and domain acct sql is running as Trust for delegation turned on service acct, specified services, and sql service acct After all this, Im still getting the exact same error from when I started. Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'. This has advanced my balding by at least 5 years so far. I would greatly appreciate any additional tips on diagnosing or setting up.

  Hmm I have a application in flex (codebase around 20K lines) ... its sort of a social network meets digg kind of thing, I need to add more features to it. This is my first ever flex project. Now im in a dilemma as to whether to refactor or rewrite the application. Im having a lot of trouble understanding the existing code (there is no documentation and the original developer is missing!!). • Has anyone gotten VB highlighting to work in Emacs23?

  I have found and installed the visual basic mode for emacs. It seems to be loading on emacs startup and the VB mode loads when I open a *.bas file. The code is not highlighted at all, however. I'm using Emacs23, tried it with 21 and saw no difference. Background for the curious: I am rewriting a set of codes from VB to Python. The syntax highlighting will make it much easier for me to see what's going on.

  It is interesting that some languages do not use semicolons and braces, even though their predecessors had them. Personally, it makes me nervous to write code in Python because of this. Semicolons are also missing from Google's GO language, although the lexer uses a rule to insert semicolons automatically as it scans. Why do some languages not use semicolons and braces?

It accepted a variety of interpreted and non-interpreted languages — I specifically remember that I could use C (maybe Python too... I'm not completely sure). • IronPython overriding __setattr__ and __getattr__

  I'm trying to implement a class in C# with a method that intercepts the Python __setattr__ and __getattr__ magic methods. I found this bug report: http://ironpython.codeplex.com/WorkItem/View.aspx?WorkItemId=8143 But that is from 2008, and nowhere can I find ICustomAttributes or PythonNameAttribute. I don't see anything useful in Interfaces.cs either. Can someone point me in the right direction?

  When I type db.help() It returns DB methods: db.addUser(username, password[, readOnly=false]) db.auth(username, password) ... ... db.printShardingStatus() ... ... db.fsyncLock() flush data to disk and lock server for backups db.fsyncUnock() unlocks server following a db.fsyncLock() I'd like to find out how to get more detailed help for the particular command. • cygwin: svn does not work anymore

  All of the sudden svn stopped working in cygwin installation on windows xp. when I execute svn binary, nothing happens, svn process does not even show up in the Task Manager. I've reinstalled svn but it did not help (the last resort would be to uninstall cygwin itself). • Code igniter authentication code in controller security question

  I have a main controller to handle the very front-end of my authentication system, it handles login, logout, update user info, etc. functions that I anticipate calling by POST'ing from views/forms. What about something like a "delete_user" function though? My thoughts are a button in someones admin panel would say "Delete Account" and it would post to "/auth/delete", and the function would delete the user based on their session username or id. This seems a bit open ended, you could send out a link to someone and when they opened it while in that application it would delete their account.. Whats the best way to handle this?

  I am trying to read the authorization header for an HTTP request (because I need to add something to it), but I always get null for the header value. • What is a SQL statement that can tally up the counts even including the Zeros? (all in 1 statement)

  A SQL statement can give a list of the most popular gifts that are sent in a Social application, all the way to the ones that are sent 1, or 2 times, but it won't include the Zeros. I think the same goes for getting the list of the most popular Classes that students are registering for, when the registration process for all students is 10 days and now it is the 3rd day. Again, we get the count but the Zeros are not there. Is there a simple SQL statement that can show the whole list, including the zeros?

• Changing the title of a MFMailComposeViewController

  Although i know changing MFMailComposeViewController is fround upon, i'm taking a risk. I found some ideas such as [self presentModalViewController:controller animated:YES]; // Existing line [[[[controller viewControllers] lastObject] navigationItem] setTitle:@"SomethingElse"]; and [[[[(MFMailComposeViewController*)vc navigationBar] items] objectAtIndex:0] setTitle:@" SomethingElse"]; but the odd thing is that the title is "SomethingElse" for like 2 seconds and after that it returns to the subject that is set. I've tried other solutions as well but the same output. I am using SHK (ShareKit) to connect to social. • Ajax Post Request Returns JSON but Deferred Fails

  I have a cross-domain POST request to http://api.local/user/auth - my API endpoint. I allow Cross Domain requests in my api with CORS. Using Chrome if that makes a difference. I get a valid server JSON response with 200 Status Code but I am using deferreds from a backbone model like so: @model.save() .fail(-> console.log 'sync fail') .success -> console.log 'sync OK' And I consistently get a 'sync fail' instead of the expected 'sync OK' Thoughts?

• Cannot position Google +1 button with CSS?

  I'm having some trouble positioning the Google +1 button on my website. The div is as follows: <div class="g-plusone"></div> The CSS I'm using is pretty simple: .g-plusone { position: absolute; top:95px; left:715px; } I know for a fact that the div in question is being accessed. What's strange is that other social sharing buttons, such as the FB like below follow the same syntax and are positioned perfectly. .fb-like { position: absolute; top:62px; left:715px; } Any ideas?
