• Richfaces calendar manual input value not binding

  Hi, I've got a richfaces calendar component defined as <rich:calendar id="startDate" value="#{myBean.dateSet.startDate}" timeZone="#{myBean.dateSet.timeZone}" datePattern="#{myBean.dateSet.datePattern}" enableManualInput="true" immediate="true"> <a4j:support event="onchanged" action="#{myBean.adjustEndDate}" reRender="startDate,endDate" ajaxSingle="true" /> </rich:calendar> when I'm changing the date using the calendar popup/gui everything is working fine. However when I'm changing it via the input text field, the value is not being updated to myBean.dateSet.startDate, although it is being updated correctly on the calendar component itself (i.e. if I click the icon for calendar popup it shows the updated current date). Any suggestions on how I can get it to update the value to myBean correctly? Thanks!

• Orientation in a UIView added to a UIWindow

  OK, bear with me. I have a UIView which is supposed to cover the whole device (UIWindow) to support an image zoom in/out effect I'm doing using core animation where a user taps a button on a UITableViewCell and I zoom the associated image. The zooming is performing flawlessly, what I haven't been able to figure out is why the subview is still in portrait mode even though the device is in landscape. • How to find from GUI whether Client Side scripting or server side scripting is running

  We have a GUI which runs on ASP.NET 2.0 framework (Client-Server model). From the support perspective how can one find whether the pages which are opening on GUI at any point of time is a server side scripting or Client side scripting. The reason why I ask this is because I understand that some of the codes are executed by the browser such as Javascript. So, if there are such scripts which are handled by the client browser, how can one find out that it is the Client side scripting which is running at that moment. Thanks for your answers in advance.

• Using LIKE operator in LINQ to Entity

  Hi, everybody! Currently in our project we are using Entity Framework and LINQ. We want to create a search feature where the Client fills different filters but he isn't forced to. To do this "dynamic" query in LINQ, we thought about using the Like operator, searching either for the field, or "%" to get everything if the user didn't fill that field. The joke's on us when we discovered it didn't support Like. After some searching, we read several answers where it's sugested to use StartsWith, but it's useless for us. Is the only solution using something like: ObjectQuery<Contact> contacts = db.Contacts; if (pattern != "") { contacts = contacts.Where(“it.Name LIKE @pattern”); contacts.Parameters.Add(new ObjectParameter(“pattern”, pattern); } However, we'd like to stick with linq only. • jqgrid scrollable dialog

  I have a jqGrid that has add/edit dialogs with a form that's longer than the dialog height but the dialog won't scroll. I've tried to add an overflow: auto style to the dialog but no effect: $("div.ui-jqdialog-content").css("overflow", "auto"); Although, if I change auto to scroll, I at least see a scrollbar but still no scrolling: $("div.ui-jqdialog-content").css("overflow", "scroll"); This at least gives me a small glimmer of hope that I'm on the right track.       How do our users see the products we are writing for them and how happy they are with our work? Are they able to get their work done without fighting with cool features and crashes or are they just switching off resistance part of their brain to survive our software? Yeah, the overall picture of software usability landscape is not very nice. Okay, it is not even nice. But, fortunately, Why Software Sucks...and What You Can Do About It by David S. Platt explains everything. Why Software Sucks… is book for software users but I consider it as a-must reading also for developers and specially for their managers whose politics often kills all usability topics as soon as they may appear. For managers usability is soft topic that can be manipulated the way it is best in current state of project. Although developers are not UI designers and usability experts they are still very often forced to deal with these topics and this is how usability problems start (of course, also designers are able to produce designs that are stupid and too hard to use for users, but this blog here is about development). I found this book to be very interesting and funny reading. It is not humor book but it explains you all so you remember later very well what you just read. It took me about three evenings to go through this book and I am still enjoying what I found and how author explains our weird young working field to end users. I suggest this book to all developers – while you are demanding your management to hire or outsource usability expert you are at least causing less pain to end users. So, go and buy this book, just like I did. And… they thanks to mr. Platt :) There is one book more I suggest you to read if you are interested in usability - Don't Make Me Think: A Common Sense Approach to Web Usability, 2nd Edition by Steve Krug. • Android: Saving custom button and spinner on orientation change

  Hello All, I am new to Android programming and was handed a fairly large program that is almost complete, but needed support for switching between portrait and landscape view. I added android:configChanges="keyboardHidden|orientation" to the manifest and used onConfigurationChanged to save the view data and that works. However, there is a button that displays the date selected (when pressed a calendar to select the date comes up) and a spinner that displays the current view and is used to select a new view. Those two items are being cleared/reset and do not work at all after the screen flip. I have been attempting to use onSaveInstanceState and onRestoreInstanceState to fix that, but I cannot figure out how to get it to work. Any advice?   Hi, I'm creating a simple SDI app using the new VS2008 service pack. I added ribbon support but all I want on the ribbon are the Open & Close buttons. I commented out all the code that creates the other default buttons and categories but doing this also gets rid of the status bar (CMFCRibbonStatusBar). I can't find what member function is called when I click the checkbox that displays the statusbar in the default generated code. I've tried the following but it doesn't work: m_wndStatusBar.ShowWindow( SW_SHOWNORMAL ); How do I have the status bar showing without having to have the 'Home' category and 'View' panel (with the 'Show status bar' checkbox) being generated? • Open payment gateway libraries for Java, Python, Ruby, and PHP

  I'm looking for generic and open source payment libraries that support many different payment processor APIs. In other words, I'd like to develop an application using a single payment processing API, but be able to easily switch between payment gateways, such as Authorize.Net, Payflow Pro, Braintree, PayPal, Google, Amazon, etc. This question gives some Java solutions, but the suggestions all look horrible. Isn't there anything more like ActiveMerchant for Java? I really need a good Java solution, to the point of building my own if necessary. But I don't want to reinvent the wheel if it exists. Are there any solutions for Python or PHP? Ideally, I'd like to find something similar to Ruby's ActiveMerchant, which looks exceptionally complete. Are there any other Ruby solutions?

• Annotating axis in ggplot2

  I am looking for the way to annotate axis in ggplot2. The example of the problem can be found here: http://learnr.wordpress.com/2009/09/24/ggplot2-back-to-back-bar-charts. The y axis of the chart (example graph in the link) has an annotation: (million euro). Is there a way to create such types of annotations in ggplot2? Looking at the documentation there is no obvious way, since the ggplot does not explicitly let you put objects outside plotting area. But maybe there is some workaround? One of the possible workarounds I thought about is using scales: data=data.frame(x=1:10,y=1:10) qplot(x=x,y=y,data=data)+scale_y_continuous(breaks=10.1,label="Millions") But then how do I remove the tick? And it seems that since ggplot does not support multiple scales, I will need to grab the output of the scale_y_continuous, when it calculates the scales automaticaly and then add my custom break and label by hand. Maybe there is a better way?

• BlackBerry Horizontal Scrolling in TreeField or ListField

  I am working on an application that requires text larger than the viewable screen size in both a TreeField and a ListField. As you know, the TreeField and ListField callbacks support only graphics.drawText() methods, so I cannot add an instance of a Field per row. Does anyone have a method of Scrolling horizontally past the viewable text size? Is there maybe a scrollable panel that would work? I know of the NullField(Field.Focusable) trick but this won't work on the list field. Lastly, I am aware that the type of screen makes a different as FullScreen and MainScreen use VerticalFieldMangers. So am using a PopupScreen at the moment for my testing. The RSS feed should look like: http://www.google.com/support/merchants/bin/answer.py?answer=160589&hl=en I'm using the SyndicationFeed and SyndicationsItems to create the feed. But I'm having trouble adding the extra elements like g:image_link. I try the extra elements like; syndicationItem.ElementExtensions.Add(new XElement("image_link", product.ImageLink).CreateReader()); This works, but how can I add the namespace xmlns:g="http://base.google.com/ns/1.0" to the first RSS tag and use this for the extension elements? • Getting a .Net remoting service accessible with IP v6 and IP v4

  My company has an existing .Net Remoting service that listens on a port, fronting interfaces used by external systems. This all works great with IP v4 based communications. However, this service now needs to support both IP v4 communications and IP v6 communications. I have found info that the system.runtime.remoting section of the app.config should include two channels as follows: <channel ref="tcp" name="tcp6" port="9000" bindTo="[::]" /> <channel ref="tcp" name="tcp4" port="9000" bindTo="0.0.0.0" /> I've tried this. For communications to this service and a direct response back, this works great. Some of the communications instead return a stream back, either for uploading or downloading large files. These calls fail with the an ArgumentException: IPv4 address 0.0.0.0 and IPv6 address ::0 are unspecified addresses that cannot be used as a target address. Parameter name: hostNameOrAddress How should these config values be modified so that the client will know how to communicate back to the .Net remoting service?

  This is a new iPhone project, only 1 target (different from this question) On build we get: Failed to launch simulated application: Unknown error. The google again gives us nothing, lots of people have encountered this and there are lots of crazy ideas to try "oh clean the build", "clear the cache", "twiddle this flag" and none of them work and work consistently. We can reproduce this on two different machines with SDK 2.2.1 and 3.0 beta. Not the install on the machines since other iphone projects work just fine so we believe it has something to do with the config of this particular project but after combing through the config twice we can't spot the problem. • Embedded file system and sqlite

  I'm working on an embedded project that has no file system, and our kludge of a database has ballooned in functionality. It's now so inefficient, we can't stand it any longer. I'm trying to figure out if there's built-in support for a flat file system in SQLite. I've dug around http://sqlite.org for a while now, but haven't found anything specifically covering it. Has anyone found a supported implementation written in C? It seems like such a straightforward request, but I can't find anything written about it. We have plenty of memory available. In a perfect world, I'd like to just set aside a large portion of it, pass the FS a pointer, then let the FS/SQLite library just use what it wants.

• Win32: Is there a replacement GDI32.dll that uses hardware acceleration?

  Has anyone out there created a version of GDI32.dll that takes advantage of hardware acceleration available on the machine? gdiplus.dll? Starting with Windows Vista, GDI is no longer hardware accelerated. (GDI+ was never hardware accelerated). Without Microsoft fixing GDI (and GDI+) to be able to run well on the computer: native applications (C++ MFC, Delphi, etc), and managed WinForms applications, will continue to run poorly forever. While i could use Direct2D for business applications, i cannot control the fact that the development environment still creates controls, with decades of library support code, that assumes the presence of GDI.

• Can I ReRender a JSF Component from backing bean code?

  Hi, Can I rerender a jsf ui component when a valuechangelistener method is run? The reason i'm asking is that my valuechangelistener method changes the values of the input boxes but when I run it, they don't seem to be rerender. The following doesn't work: <h:inputText id="inputbox_id"/> <h:selectOneMenu valueChangeListener="#{myBean.changeCountryMenu}"> <a4j:support event="onchange" rerender="inputbox_id" action="#{bean.test}> </h:selectOneMenu> Notice that bean.test() is never run. So the solution I thought of is to rerender the inputbox from the valueChangeListener. If there is some other better solution i'd be glad to hear... Thank you! Ben.

• Create Excel (.XLS and .XLSX) file from C#

  What is the best tool for creating an Excel Spreadsheet with C#. Ideally, I would like open source so I don't have to add any third party dependencies to my code, and I would like to avoid using Excel directly to create the file (using OLE Automation.) The .CSV file solution is easy, and is the current way I am handling this, but I but I would like to control the output formats. EDIT: I am still looking at these to see the best alternative for my solution. Interop will work, but it requires Excel to be on the machine you are using. Also the OLEDB method is intriguing, but may not yield much more than what I can achieve with CSV files. I will look more into the 2003 xml format, but that also puts a Excel 2003 requirement on the file. I am currently looking at a port of the PEAR (PHP library) Excel Writer that will allow some pretty good XLS data and formatting and it is in the Excel_97 compatible format that all modern versions of Excel support. • Why is XHTML1.1 dated *before* XHTML1.0 ? What is the preferred XHTML today?

  I'm not clear on the status of XHTML - v1.0 and v1.1. Can someone explain which is preferred at this point, and why? The specs from w3c say that XHTML 1.1 predates* XHTML 1.0, which is exactly counter-intuitive, to me. http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/ - W3C Recommendation 31 May 2001 http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/ - W3C Recommentation, updated 1 August 2002 Also, I noted earlier today that the latest version of htmltidy emits XHTML 1.0, when I request xhtml. Hmmm....Even though the XHTML 1.1 spec is 9 years old, it's still not supported by mainstream tools. That suggests that XHTML 1.1 is either completely unnecessary or spurious. Which one should I use if I am authoring pages today? What if I am building tools - should I bother to support both? Or do I need only one? Thanks.

• DateTimePicker not updating dataset

  I'm binding a DateTimePicker control to my dataset (which is linked to a database). However, unless the user changes the date on that control, the dataset seems to contain null for that entry (even though the Value entry of the control isn't null). I've done a bit of googling, and there's a lot of talk about people having troubles with the DateTimePicker not supporting null values. However, I DON'T want it to support a NULL value. The column in my database table is set to "NOT NULL". It's as if the dataset isn't updating itself from the DateTimePicker control unless the user changes the date. I've tried explicitly setting the date for the control in code (using DateTimePicker.Value = DateTime.Now). This still doesn't update the dataset side. Thankyou for any help, Dan.

I've found the Wireless LAN API but it requires me to have some hotfix installed on the machine, and you need to have sp2 or higher(There are machines with SP1, and I'm required to support any XP machine). I've tried to find some samples about Wireless Zero Configuration on MSDN but with no luck, only samples I've found are for WinCE, I think Microsoft stopped supporting it. In addition I couldn't find where to download the dll and header file for working with the WZC. There must be a way to do it and work on any service pack because I've found Zwlancfg by ENGL

  Hello ! I use my 4.0 iPhone for both work and personal stuff. So iTunes keeps, every time I sync my iPhone, a backup in ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup. I recently bought an iPad (OS 3.2). I'd like to be able to duplicate my iPhone backup, and restore it on the iPad (so I'll have all my apps settings, passwords, application positions, etc... from the iPhone on the iPad) So, I need to convert the backup from 4.0 to 3.2. I know this is not officially supported by Apple, but has any of you guys figured that out ? There are 5 easily editable files in the backup folder : Info.plist Manifest.mbdb Manifest.mbdx Manifest.plist Status.plist Thanks !
