• IIS 7 Authentication: Certain users can't authenticate, while almost all others can.

  I'm using IIS 7 Digest authentication to control access to a certain directory containing files. Users access the files through a department website from inside our network and outside. I've set NTFS permissions on the directory to allow a certain AD group to view the files. When I click a link to one of those files on the website I get prompted for a username and password. With most users everything works fine, but with a few of them it prompts for a password 3 times and then get: 401 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials. But other users that are in the group can get in without a problem. If I switch it over to Windows Authentication, then the trouble users can log in fine. That directory is also shared, and users that can't log in through the website are able to browse to the share and view files in it, so I know that the permissions are ok. • RIA Services vs ADO.NET Data Services

  I'm currently in the process of creating a Silverlight 3 data driven application. To access the database, 2 common approaches are used: RIA Services and ADO.NET Data Services. Does anyone have any guidance on when/why to choose each approach? Here is what I've gathered from my research / experience. Any thoughts? ADO.NET seems to be only useful for strictly database calls. If you need to expose the data services to other applications (ignoring Silverlight 3's domain restriction), this is a good approach. Also, if the URL/Query syntax can be useful in your application, this is another advantage RIA Services seem to be a more flexible, accepted framework. It seems to give you more than strictly database access. It does have a limitation of only being used for the Silverlight / Web application as it is not exposed via a service. Thoughts? Ideas? Comments?

• Cannot Start Nginx Compiled from Source

  I am trying to compile Nginx from source based on the original compiled Nginx server running on my DigitalOcean server ( Ubuntu-14.04 64x ) but with a few extra modules. I can get everything installed smoothly but I can not get it to start. I am sure the ini is correct because I copied the original source off the current running Nginx server [ Even though I see that Nginx now adds the ini when compiling fron source ]. Below is the [ lengthy process ] that I am performing - add sorry but I wanted to be thorough for those who are in need of the info ]. Because I am a newB to Nginx, I am sure I am missing something or just have it all wrong. And now to start the server: service nginx start And this is where s#!+ hits the fan - Nada. I check to see if Nginx is running with service --status-all and its not. Also with nginx -V and its not installed??? I reboot the system too and still nothing. So I am not sure what is wrong here. The ini was copied over from the old server along with all the other config files after deleting the old files. When I opened the new compiled files, the nginx default data was present so I replaced them with my old original data prior to starting the new server for the first time. Also to be safe, I rm /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/default and symlinked with ln -s /etc/nginx/sites-available/default /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/default with no errors and I verified that the data was in the sites-enabled/default file. I don't think the server really/fully installed because of the nginx -V result: The program 'nginx' can be found in the following packages: * nginx-core * nginx-extras * nginx-full * nginx-light * nginx-naxsi Try: apt-get install <selected package> Do/should I apt-get install nginx-1.7.4 ?? Or what package do I use being that its a custom package and make install earlier did nothing?? If you need to see the conf files I copied over from the old to the custom server, LMK and I'll post them. Again your help here would be appreciated!

• How to upload web.config file using WebDAV on IIS7?

  I want to copy an ASP.NET MVC website to a remote IIS 7 server using WebDAV. I have created a site in IIS, enabled WebDAV and assigned a special application pool I have named "WebDAV Application Pool". Using a Windows 7 or Vista client I'm able to mount the remote site as a network drive. So far, so good. However, I have problems uploading web.config files to the remote site. One problem is that as soon as a web.config has been uploaded it is used to configure the WebDAV site. The web.config file in a Views folder of a MVC project effectively blocks access to that folder. To work around this problem I have configured the application pool in the applicationHost.config file: <configuration> <applicationPools> <add name="WebDAV Application Pool" autoStart="true" enableConfigurationOverride="false" /> </applicationPools> </configuration> The interesting part is the 'enableConfigurationOverride` attribute: When true, indicates that delegated settings in Web.config files will processed for applications within this application pool. When false, all settings in Web.config files will be ignored for this application pool. Doing this makes it possible to upload a web.config file to the Views folder without breaking access to the folder. However, I'm still unable to upload a web.config file to the root folder. I have the following settings in the applicationHost.config file to ensure that request filtering doesn't interfere with WebDAV: <configuration> <location path="webdav.mysite.tld"> <system.webServer> <security> <requestFiltering> <fileExtensions applyToWebDAV="false" /> <verbs applyToWebDAV="false" /> <hiddenSegments applyToWebDAV="false" /> </requestFiltering> </security> </system.webServer> </location> </configuration> In particular hiddenSegments will normally block access to web.config but setting the applyToWebDAV attribute to false should ensure that this file isn't blocked when using WebDAV. Unfortunately, I'm still unable to copy my web.config file to the root folder of the site. Doing drag and drop in Windows Explorer to the mapped WebDAV network drive will result in the following error message: Error 0x80070057: The parameter is incorrect. On the wire it seems that the HTTP status 400 Bad Request is returned. Is there anything I can do to configure WebDAV on IIS 7 to avoid this problem?

• Can't Deploy or Upload Large SSRS 2008 Report from VS or IE

  So far in this project I have two reports in VS2008/BIDS. The first one contains 1 tablix and is about 100k. The second one contains 3 tablixes (tablices?) and is about 257k. I can successfully deploy the smaller report from VS and I can upload it from the Report Manager in IE. I can view/run it from Report Manager and I can get to the Report Server (web service) URL from my browser just fine. Everything is done over HTTPS and there is nothing wrong with the certificates. With the larger report, the error I get in VS is "The operation has timed out" after about 100 seconds. The error when I upload from IE is "The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a send" after about 130 seconds. In the RSReportServer.config file I tried changing Authentication/EnableAuthPersistence from true to false and restarting the service, but still get the error. I have the key "SecureConnectionLevel" set to 2. Changing this to 0 and turning off SSL is not going to be an option. I added a registry key named "MaxRequestBytes" to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\HTTP\Parameters and set it to 5242880 (5MB) and restarted the HTTP and SRS services as suggested in a forum post by Jin Chen of MSFT. I still cannot upload the larger report. This is on MS SQL 2008 and WS 2003. • WAMP Apache 403 Forbidden error

  I have recently changed from Windows XP to Windows 7 and have reinstalled WAMP server on my localhost testing pc. I have copied over my backup site too and this is working correctly. I have installed tinyMCE javascript editor as well as ajaxfilemanager. Everything works except when accessing a file i get the following error: Forbidden You don't have permission to access /catalog/admin/includes/javascript/tinymce/plugins/ajaxfilemanager/ajaxfilemanager.php on this server. I can access this file/folder through Windows explorer and all other parts of my site works (php, js in other section etc). Thanks for any help!

  This is very basic question from programming point of view but as I am in learning phase, I thought I would better ask this question rather than having a misunderstanding or narrow knowledge about the topic. Question: Let's say I have class A,B,C and D now class A has some piece of code which I need to have in class B,C and D so I am extending class A in class B, class C, and class D Now how can I access the function of class A in other classes, do I need to create an object of class A and than access the function of class A or as am extending A in other classes than I can internally call the function using this parameter. If possible I would really appreciate if someone can explain this concept with code sample explaining how the logic flows. Note Example in Java, PHP and .Net would be appreciated.

• Spring Security - Persistent Remember Me Issue

  I've been trying to track down why Spring Security isn't creating the Spring Security remember me cookie (SPRING_SECURITY_REMEMBER_ME_COOKIE). At first glance, the logs make it seem like the login is failing, but the login is actually successful in the sense that if I navigate to a page that requires authentication I am not redirected back to the login page. However, the logs appear to be saying the login credentials are invalid. I'm using Spring 3.0.1, Spring Security 3.0.1, and Google App Engine 1.3.1. Any ideas as to what is going on?   Hi all I have some troubles with ssl using httpclient on android i am trying to access public trusted certificate in details i want my app to trust all certificates. First i tried using this guide http://hc.apache.org/httpclient-3.x/sslguide.html on Desktop is working fine but on android i still got javax.net.ssl.SSLException: Not trusted server certificate.   In a Windows Server 2003 environment with a self hosted .Net 3.5/WCF application, how can an application report its status to a BigIP Local Traffic Manager? Example: One of my services errors. My custom WCF application hosting software (written because Windows Server 2008 is not yet available and I'm using WCF TCP bindings) detects this and wants to report itself as down until it can recover the errant service. • Firefox Password script same PW auto login for 1000s devices Possible to use greasemonkey

  I currently work in a position that i have to manage and access 1000s of pages for troubleshooting and new setup.... and im trying to figure out a way for firefox or chrome to setup ANYtime it sees for instance a a web based page for equipment like (CISCO, Linksys, Sonicwall, T1 controllers) from the manufacture in the Title bar or from the originating page place a set up 2 - 3 passwords to auto log on with. 1st one of course being the most common so it logs in faster.. I access about 14 different web based products with passwords tied to each of them and if someway i can grab info stating that hey this company is cisco/sonicwall/linksys/hp/ log on with these set of 3-5 credintials. Using possible If then statements.... is that hard i saw some script files but not sure if its difficult because some apps use the MSG BOX built in feature and some use the form submit method built on the page unless i can have 2 different grease monkey scripts at the same time.... thanks.

• Accessing Squid Proxy over internet

  Hi, I recently finished installing Squid on a VPS I have in the US and its working fine locally (I verified by setting http_proxy variable and using lynx). I want to access this proxy over the internet (as an anonymizer) so that I can see how some ads show up for US traffic on my website. I have setup authentication so abuse is not a problem. However, I am not able to access the proxy over the internet. I have set the following rule in squid.conf http_access allow all Is this not possible to do what I want or I am missing something? The port 3128 is open in the firewall so that is not an issue. Squid is running on 0.0.0.0 Thanks Prateek

• Communicate with the local machine from a web page

  Hello. We have a web application. There are physical devices that we need to be able to communicate with, and we have access to all of our clients computers to install whatever software we need. Now, for the question: Is there a way to make this browser-agnostic? As in, not requiring ActiveX controls? One of my ideas was to install a custom made webserver on each client and then have javascript on our webpage that communicates with that webserver. This could be done by the same way that http://earlz.biz.tm javascript can access subdomains assigned to 127.0.0.1 such as http://loopback.earlz.biz.tm The problem with this of course is that the client's custom made webserver would be forced to run on port 80(which will have conflicts at least sometimes), or we would have to use a nonstandard port for our web application, which is quite undesirable. Does anyone else have ideas on how to do this?

  The default controller in my ASP.NET MVC project is decorated with the [Authorize] attribute. When I deploy the website on my development machine and access the website, I am redirected to the login page (defined in forms loginUrl section of the Web.Config). Result: everything works as expected. When I publish the website on our production server (Windows Server 2008, IIS 7, DefaultAppPool) and access the website, the expected address shows in the address bar (/Account/LogOn?ReturnUrl=*my_expected_return_url*), but the page displays "You do not have permission to view this directory or page." instead of the login page. If I remove the [Authorize] attribute on the default controller/action, the page displays correctly. My Web.Config file: sessionState mode="InProc" timeout="30" authentication mode="Forms" forms loginUrl="~/Account/LogOn" timeout="2880"

• Deploying xbap in a full trust mode

  I have xbap which needs to run on a full trust mode because my application needs to upload a file from the client machine to process. I have to provide a installation steps to install. If i do it as a click one instillation, do i still get a security error? If so what is the best way to resolve it? If i install it in remote server, I saw couple of options in internet like creating certificates and ask user to import this certificate. Other option is to ask the user to allow access to xbap applications which provides access to all xbap applications (not so good). what is best way? It would be really great, if some could provide me the installation steps for both scenarios.
