• Perl: How do I capture Chinese input via SCIM with STDIN?

  Hi, I use SCIM on Linux for Chinese and Japanese language input. Unfortunately, when I try to capture input using Perl's STDIN, the input is crazy. As roman characters are typed, SCIM tries to guess the correct final characters. ^H (backspace) codes are used to delete previously suggested chars on the command line. (As you type, SCIM tries to guess final Asian chars and displays them.) However, these backspace chars are shown literally as ^H and not interpreted correctly. Example one-liner: perl -e 'print "Chinese: "; my $s = <STDIN>; print $s' When I enable SCIM Chinese or Japanese language input, as I type, e.g., nihao = ??, here is the result: ?^H?^H?^H?^H?^H??^H^H??^H^H??^H^H??^H^H??^H^H??^H^H??^H^H??^H^H??^H^H?? At the very end of this string, you can see "??" (nihao/hello). At a normal bash prompt, if I type nihao (with Chinese enabled), the results is perfect. This has something to do with interpretation of backspace chars (or control chars) during Perl's STDIN. The same thing happens when using command 'read' in Bash. • Generating an NSDictionary from an SQL statement.

  I am trying to generate an NSDictonary that can be used to populate a listview with data I retrieved from an SQL statement. when I go to create an array and add them it adds the arrays for ALL my keys and not just for the current key. • some problem with iOS 4.2.1

  Hi, I've been developing an app with MacBook Pro (MBP) so far. Last week one of my friends gave me new macbook air 11"(MBA). so Now I can test my code with more than one machine with the same version of developing tools - Both machine has Xcode (3.2.5) and iOS SDK 4.2.1). After some point my app starts get terminated suddenly(iPhone sumulator), and I was using MBP. I got no error message whatsoever. it just stops. I reckon the crash comes from dealing with memory, like 'release'/ 'double-release'. (I'm not 100% sure though). Anyway I thought there must be some mistake within my code for sure. -Confusion starts from this part.- With my MBA, on the other hand, I don'y see any crash. It just works fine. There is nothing different between MBA & MBP except the h/w specifications. Same code, same versions of XCode and iOS SDK. Is the fact that no crash at MBA suggesting that I have to look somewhere else than the code itself? I red some article and Q&As on iOS4.2.1 and XCode 3.2.5 that the most recent version of XCode doesn't recognize the iOS 4.2.1 since the 4.2.1 came out later the 3.2.5. Is it the reason? I have no idea at this moment what should be the next move. thanks

• Drupal 6 Validation for Form Callback Function

  I have a simple form with a select menu on the node display page. Is there an easy way to validate the form in my callback function? By validation I don't mean anything advanced, just to check that the values actually existed in the form array. For example, without ajax, if my select menu has 3 items and I add a 4th item and try to submit the form, drupal will give an error saying something similar to "an illegal choice was made, please contact the admin." With ajax this 4th item you created would get saved into the database. So do I have to write validation like if ($select_item > 0 && $select_item <= 3) { //insert into db } Or is there an easier way that will check that the item actually existed in the form array? I'm hoping there is since without ajax, drupal will not submit the form if it was manipulated. Thanks.   I am the only developer at a non-profit organization(~200 employees) where we are a M$ shop and 90% of the things I develop are specific to our company and are internal only. I am given a lot of latitude on how I accomplish my goals so using new technologies is in my best interest. So far I have developed all winform & asp.net applications. I would now like to focus on XAML driven development(WPF & Silverlight) and would like your help. I am subscribed to numerous Silverlight blogs and I have went through a few good tutorials however, I would really appreciate a GOOD SOLID book in my hands going forward. I prefer learning books versus reference books and I REALLY would like one from a Business standpoint as well. Shameless, self-promoting is welcomed if you happen to be an author or reviewer for one that meets my criteria. I would, however, prefer that recomendations were based on first-hand experience(no, 'my friend as this awesome book he told me about', please). Though, I don't mind un-released books if say they are an updated version of an existing. If more info is needed to provide accurate recomendations please let me know. I have a database table which contains an unsigned integer field to store the visitor's IP address: `user_ip` INT(10) UNSIGNED DEFAULT NULL, Here's the snippet of PHP code which tries to store the IP address: $ipaddr = $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR']; if ($stmt = mysqli_prepare($dbconn, 'INSERT INTO visitors(user_email, user_ip) VALUES (?,?)')) { $remote_ip = "INET_ATON('$ipaddr')"; mysqli_stmt_bind_param($stmt, 'ss', $email, $remote_ip); if (mysqli_stmt_execute($stmt) === FALSE) return FALSE; $rows_affected = mysqli_stmt_affected_rows($stmt); mysqli_stmt_close($stmt); } The INSERT operation succeeds, however the user_ip field contains a null value. I have also tried changing the parameter type in mysqli_stmt_bind_param() (which was set to string in the above example) to integer, i.e. mysqli_bind_param(... 'si',...) - but to no avail. I've also tried using the following bit of code instead of mysql's INET_ATON() SQL function: function IP_ATON($ipaddr) { $trio = intval(substr($ipaddr,0,3)); return ($trio>127) ? ((ip2long($ipaddr) & 0x7FFFFFFF) + 0x80000000) : ip2long($ipaddr); } It still doesn't work - the 'user_ip' field is still set to null. I've tried passing the $ip_addr variable as both integer & string in mysqli_bind_param() - to no avail. It seems the problem lies with the parameterized insert. The following "old-style" code works without any problem: mysqli_query(..., "INSERT INTO visitors(user_email, user_ip) VALUES ('$email',INET_ATON('$ipaddr'))"); What am I doing wrong here? • "Ghost" values in PHP/Smarty.

  I've been working on a site for a while changing the layout and skin of a webshop checkout process. I've noticed that if you go all the way through the process until the last page, then click the link to go back to the view products page, the delivery method price displays underneath the navigation buttons, until you refresh and it goes away again. I've downloaded both sourced from the browser (Chrome, but this bug applies to all browsers) and used a file difference tool to display the differences, the result being only: < error.html vs > normal.html 34c34 < <link href="gzip.php?file=167842c1496093fbcd391b41cf7b03da.css&time=1272272181" rel="Stylesheet" type="text/css"/> --- > <link href="gzip.php?file=167842c1496093fbcd391b41cf7b03da.css&time=1272272348" rel="Stylesheet" type="text/css"/> Which is just the way it zips up the CSS stylesheets. (afaik) Has anyone ever encountered such a problem, or anything similar? Normal: Error: I can't even hazard a guess as to what is causing this, at all.   I wrote a script for screen pops from our soft phone that locates a directory listing for the caller but occasionally they get "Can't read input stream" and the rest of the script quits. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to suppress error the error message and allow the rest of the script to run?   I am using sqlite in c++ windows, And I have a db size about 60M, When I open the sqlite db, It takes about 13 second. sqlite3* mpDB; nRet = sqlite3_open16(szFile, &mpDB); And if I closed my application and reopen it again. It takse only less then 1 second. First, I thought It is because of disk cache. So I preload the 60M db file before sqlite open, and read the file using CFile, However, after preloading, the first time is still very slow. I tried changing the code instead of using the if loop I only run the convert function when I send for example t through the serial monitor, this works fine and outputs the correct timet after the execution of the convert function, So I figured the problem is in the if loop... Any ideas?

  I have some images that need to change, based not only on hover, but also on active state. If you look at the page here: http://site427.mysite4now.net/tazthedog/site1/ There are some tabs with Screen Printing Quick Links, etc. The tab image is associated with the link and displays properly. The icon in tabs defaults to the gray and turns blue on mouse over, however, I also need it to be blue on the "active" state. • std::ifstream buffer caching

  Hello everybody, In my application I'm trying to merge sorted files (keeping them sorted of course), so I have to iterate through each element in both files to write the minimal to the third one. This works pretty much slow on big files, as far as I don't see any other choice (the iteration has to be done) I'm trying to optimize file loading. I can use some amount of RAM, which I can use for buffering. I mean instead of reading 4 bytes from both files every time I can read once something like 100Mb and work with that buffer after that, until there will be no element in buffer, then I'll refill the buffer again. But I guess ifstream is already doing that, will it give me more performance and is there any reason? If fstream does, maybe I can change size of that buffer? added My current code looks like that (pseudocode) // this is done in loop int i1 = input1.read_integer(); int i2 = input2.read_integer(); if (!input1.eof() && !input2.eof()) { if (i1 < i2) { output.write(i1); input2.seek_back(sizeof(int)); } else input1.seek_back(sizeof(int)); output.write(i2); } } else { if (input1.eof()) output.write(i2); else if (input2.eof()) output.write(i1); } What I don't like here is seek_back - I have to seek back to previous position as there is no way to peek 4 bytes too much reading from file if one of the streams is in EOF it still continues to check that stream instead of putting contents of another stream directly to output, but this is not a big issue, because chunk sizes are almost always equal. Can you suggest improvement for that? Thanks.

  I am writing a small console application (will be ran as a service) that basically starts a Java app when it is running, shuts itself down if the Java app closes, and shuts down the Java app if it closes. I think I have the first two working properly, but I don't know how to detect when the .NET application is shutting down so that I can shutdown the Java app prior to that happening. Google search just returns a bunch of stuff about detecting Windows shutting down. • How reference popup object when opener page changes?

  This is driving me crazy! Scenario: The main page opens a pop-up window and later calls a function in it: newWin = window.open(someurl,'newWin',options); ...some code later... newWin.remoteFunction(options); and it's ok. Now, popup is still open and Main Page changes to Page 2. In Page 2 newWin doesn't exist anymore and I need to recreate the popup window object reference in order to call again the remote function (newWin.remoteFunction) I tried something like: newWin = open('','newWin', options); if (!newWin || newWin.closed || !newWin.remoteFunction) { newWin = window.open(someurl,'newWin',options); } And it works, I can call newWin.remoteFunction again BUT Safari for some reason gives Focus() to the popup window everytime the open() method is called breaking the navigation (I absolutely need the popup working in the background). Only workaround I can think to solve this is to create an interval in the popup with: if(window.opener && !window.opener.newWin) window.opener.newWin = self; and then set another interval in the opener Page with some try/catch but it is inelegant and very inefficient. so, I wonder, it's really so hard to get the popup object reference between different pages in the opener window?
