  I have a query regarding how delegates work. My understanding was that delegates take responsibility for doing certain tasks on behalf of another object. locationManager = [[CLLocationManager alloc] init]; [locationManager setDelegate:self]; [locationManager setDistanceFilter:kCLDistanceFilterNone]; [locationManager setDesiredAccuracy:kCLLocationAccuracyBest]; [locationManager startUpdatingLocation]; Am I right in thinking that in the example code above that the instance of CLLocationManager is created on a new thread so that it can get on with trying to find the location information it needs. When it completes its task (or encounters an error) it calls-back using the appropriate methods located in self e.g. locationManager:didUpdateToLocation:fromLocation: Essentially locationManager sends messages to self (which conforms to the correct delegate protocol) when things happen cheers gary

  Hi, I'm new to MySQL, I am trying to create a text file using a stored procedure. I'm currently at the stage where I have a temporary table that contains all of the records that I want to output to a text file. I have the following line at the end of my SP, it works in PHPMYAdmin's query but it does not work when part of a stored procedure the code is as follows: SELECT * into outfile '../../htdocs/VIP/Temp/temp.txt' from tmp_Menu2; note that tmp_Menu2 is a table that only includes one field of type VARCHAR(1000) Any help would be greathly appreciated. • Is it actually possible to programmatically manage the state of an FTP server in IIS7?

  I'm able to manage FTP sites via the IIS manager, however, all attempts so far to manage the state of FTP sites using other means have failed, including: Using the IIS7 API (Microsoft.Web.Administration) Using WMI (with IIS6 compatibility enabled) Using the AppCmd tool in System32\inetsrv Related questions: Why am I unable to get Site.State for an FTP site, when using Microsoft.Web.Administration? Are there any workarounds I haven't tried? My objective is to manage (start/stop/query the state of) the FTP sites with C# code (as you can see from the 3 above attempted workarounds). When querying the FTP server state using WMI, it returns code 4, which means "Stopped", even though the site is definitely shown as running in IIS manager. AppCmd is useless, as it returns "Unknown" for FTP sites: c:\Windows\System32\inetsrv>appcmd list site SITE "Default Web Site" (id:1,bindings:http/*:80:,state:Stopped) SITE "Default FTP Site" (id:2,bindings:ftp/*:21:,state:Unknown)

  Hi, As per my project requirement i want to perform two operation Password Change Unlock Account(Only unlocking account, no password change!) I want return success only if both the transactions succeeds. Say if password change succeeds and unlock fails i cannot send success or failure. So i want to create a rollback point before password change, if both queries executes successfully i will commit the transaction. If one of the query fails i will discard the changes by rolling back to the rollback point. I am doing this in C++ using ADO. Is there any SQL Queries,using i can create the rollback point and reverting to rollback point and commiting the transaction I am using below commands for Password change ALTER LOGIN [username] WITH PASSWORD = N'password' for Unlock account ALTER LOGIN [%s] WITH CHECK_POLICY = OFF ALTER LOGIN [%s] WITH CHECK_POLICY = ON Thanks in advance!!   Hello, I have a page called guestbook.php in which contains $('#guest_form').ajaxForm({}); When the form is triggered it goes to a save.php page which contains and values inserted if($_POST['x']){ $xx = $_POST['x']; $yy = $_POST['y']; $zz = $_POST['z']; $query_one = "INSERT INTO xxx (x1,yl,z1,z2) values ('$xx','$yy','$zz','00000')"; mysql_select_db($database_1, $1); $Result = mysql_query($query_guest_one, $1) or die(mysql_error()); So far so good. Now I run a select query based on the insert and display it in a div on the guestbook.php page. That is where I cannot do it. All help appreciated. Thanks Jean

  I would like to get a list of Active Directory users along with the security groups they are members of using SQL Server 2005 linked servers. I have the query working to retrieve records but I'm not sure how to access the memberOf attribute (it is a multi-value LDAP attribute). I have this temporary to store the information: DROP TABLE #ADUSERGROUPS CREATE TABLE #ADUSERGROUPS ( sAMAccountName varchar(30), UserGroup varchar(50) ) Each group/user association should be one row. Instead of querying the database for the contents of the users library everytime they load "library.php", I want to store it globally for PHP when the user logs in, so that the query is only run once.   I'm trying to make an accesible cache of user data using Pyramid doc's "Making A “User Object” Available as a Request Attribute" example. That means that user might not be logged in, so why are you using that ID to get there private info from the database? Shouldn't userid = authenticated_userid(request) be used instead to make sure the user is logged in? What's the advantage of using unauthenticated_userid(request)? Please help me understand what's going on here.

  I have multiple users with multiple entries recording times they arrive at destinations Somehow, with my select query I would like to only show the most recent entries for each unique user name. Here is the code that doesn't work: SELECT * FROM $dbTable GROUP BY xNAME ORDER BY xDATETIME DESC This does the name grouping fine, but as far as showing ONLY their most recent entry, is just shows the first entry it sees in the SQL table. I guess my question is, is this possible? Here is my data sample: john 7:00 chris 7:30 greg 8:00 john 8:15 greg 8:30 chris 9:00 and my desired result should only be john 8:15 chris 9:00 greg 8:30

• What is the difference among NSString alloc:initWithCString versus stringWithUTF8String?

  I thought these two methods were (memory allocation-wise) equivalent, however, I was seeing "out of scope" and "NSCFString" in the debugger if I used what I thought was the convenient method (commented out below) and when I switched to the more explicit method my code stopped crashing! Notice that I am getting the string that is being stored in my container from sqlite3 query. p = (char*) sqlite3_column_text (queryStmt, 1); // GUID = (NSString*) [NSString stringWithUTF8String: (p!=NULL) ? p : ""]; GUID = [[NSString alloc] initWithCString:(p!=NULL) ? p : "" encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; Also note, that if I looked at the values in the debugger and printed them with NSLog they looked correct, however, I don't think new memory was allocated and the value copied. Instead the memory pointer was stored - went out of scope - referenced later - crash!

• Postgresql - one database for everyone, or one-database per customer

  I'm working on a web-based business application where each customer will need to have their own data (think basecamphq.com type model) For scalability and ease-of-upgrades, I'd prefer to have a single database where each customer gets a filtered version of the data. The problem is how to guarantee that they stay sandboxed to their own data. Trying to enforce it in code seems like a disaster waiting to happen. I know Oracle has a way to append a where clause to every query based on a login id, but does Postgresql have anything similar? If not, is there a different design pattern I could use (like creating a view of each table for each customer that filters)? Worse case scenario, what is the performance/memory overhead of having 1000 100M databases vs having a single 1Tb database? I will need to provide backup/restore functionality on a per-customer basis which is dead-simple on a single database but quite a bit trickier if they are sharing the database with other customers.

  I'm working on a proof of concept app for a twitter style social network with about 500k users. I'm unsure of how best to design the 'schema' should I embed a user's subscriptions or have a separate 'subscriptions' collection and use db references? If I embed, I still have to perform a query to get all of a user's followers. e.g. Given the following user: { "username" : "alan", "photo": "123.jpg", "subscriptions" : [ {"username" : "john", "status" : "accepted"}, {"username" : "paul", "status" : "pending"} ] } to find all of alan's subscribers, I'd have to run something like this: db.users.find({'subscriptions.username' : 'alan'}); from a performance point of view, is that any worse or better than having a separate subscriptions collection? also, when displaying a list of subscriptions/subscribers, I am currently having problems with n+1 because the subscription document tells me the username of the target user but not other attributes I may need such as the profile photo. Are there any recommended practices for such situations? thanks Alan

  We currently have an SQL Server 2000 database with one table containing data for multiple users. The data is keyed by memberid which is an integer field. The table has a clustered index on memberid. The table is now about 200 million rows. Indexing and maintenance are becoming issues. We are debating splitting the table into one table per user model. This would imply that we would end up with a very large number of tables potentially upto the 2,147,483,647, considering just positive values. My questions: Does anyone have any experience with a SQL Server (2000/2005) installation with millions of tables? What are the implications of this architecture with regards to maintenance and access using Query Analyzer, Enterprise Manager etc. What are the implications to having such a large number of indexes in a database instance.   Our software installer install firebird if it is not present on the system and, as we are pursuing Win certificate the uninstaller should remove it but, we want to make sure that even if it was the installer that put it there, if any new software is using it now with a new database, we would not remove it (Firebird). The question is: Is it possible to query the server and ask what are the databases running on it? This is it so that we can decide, automatically if we can remove the database or not. A few extra info: Our installer is Innosetup and it does a good job already - we just trying to make it smarter because of the "Developed by" or "Compatible with" windows logo.

• Swipe gestures on Android ListView items

  I have a ListView populated by a ResourceCursorAdapter. I use the loaders mechanism to query a ContentProvider for list items. I detect swipe gestures on the list items to perform some actions on them. New items get added by a background service, so the list can change dynamically. Everything works fine, except when I start swiping and a database change occurs (as a result of the background service adding a new row). In such case the gesture is not detected properly. I noticed that ACTION_CANCEL is dispatched to the list item view and also that bindView is executed for all visible items. Inside the bindView method I only set some text - I don't change any listeners there. How can I make gestures work even when new items are being added by the background service? Perhaps there's a way to prevent the motion from being cancelled or I can pause database updates so they don't interrupt the gesture.

  This should be easy but for some reason I'm having trouble finding it. I have the following: App(models.Model): ... Release(models.Model): date = models.DateTimeField() App = models.ForeignKey(App) ... How can I query for all App objects that have at least one Release? I started typing: App.objects.all().annotate(release_count=Count('??????')).filter(release_count__gt=0) Which won't work because Count doesn't span relationships, at least as far as I can tell. BONUS: Ultimately, I'd also like to be able to sort Apps by latest release date. I'm thinking of caching the latest release date in the app to make this a little easier (and cheaper), and updating it in the Release model's save method, unless of course there is a better way. Edit: I'm using Django 1.1 - not averse to migrating to dev in anticipation of 1.2 if there is a compelling reason though.
