• Fallback to another existing MIME type when the required is missing in Rails

  I want to extend the existing supported HTML type of my site by support for iPhone. For this I registered a new MIME type. I created a layout for iphone and also converted some of the html views to iphone version. However, I did not convert all of the html.erb files. I do not see the reason to convert all views, some of them should not change, some partials simply just remain the same. I guess there should be a solution for this case. I tried to search for ways how to fallback to an existing format, but did not find any answer. Does a way to define fallback for MIME types in Rails exist? How does it work? If it doesn't exist and thus I wanted to solve the issue not the right way, what could simply solve the task of extending an existing site by another format? Thanks for your suggestions.

• Counting number of GC cleanups on an object

  How do I keep a count of the number of times that objects of a specific class (type?) are getting disposed in the lifetime of my application. Imagine I have a class A, now, I want to count how many times the objects of A get collected by the GC. I hope I am phrasing this right because I was asked this in an interview today and the answer I gave did not satisfy the interviewer. And this is what I imagine he was trying to ask. What I said was that one could keep a static field called count in the class A and increment it in the Finalize() call of that object. The answer he was expecting was something called a static block. I've never heard of this in .NET/C#. Can someone explain what's this static block?

• how to call a javascript function in the top frame?

  This seems really simple, but how do I call a javascript function that's defined in the top-level html, from a child frame? top html doc - 1st level frame - 2nd level frame my top html doc has a function called testFn(). In the 2nd level frame I have a button with onclick="top.testFn();" but this doesn't call the testFn(). In Firebug if I use a watch to execute top.testFn(); it says TypeError: testFn() is not a function. Should this all just work - in which case it's a problem with my documents, or is there some other way to call functions in the top-level window?

• How can I use multiple PHP header content types on the same page? is this possible?

  Is it possible to use multiple header types in one document? For example: header("Content-type: image/jpeg"); header('Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8'); returns the whole page as text/html... while header('Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8'); header("Content-type: image/jpeg"); Returns the whole page as an image.... How can I use both types of content on the same page? I'm using ob_start() at the top and ob_end_flush() at the beginning.

  Hi! I am looking for a stand-alone, easy to use from C# code, template engine. What I want to do is create an html and xml files with placeholders for data, and fill them with data from my code. The engine needs to support loops (duplicating parts of the template form more that one object) and conditions (add parts of the template to the final html/xml only if some conditions are true). Can someone recommend a good option for me, and add a link to more-or-less such code sample, and some documentation about how to use the recommended component for my needs? Thanks:) Just wanted to add one more thing - I also need to use loops to duplicate table rows, or even entire tables (in the html version) and complex elements (in the xml version) Thanks again:)

  Hi How could I make this code more generic in the sense that the Dictionary key could be a different type, depending on what the user of the library wanted to implement? When I generated html on pageload, then this works fine, but if I add html dynamically then dialog won't open. It is also not hidden when it's appended to div. Is it possible to open it "on-fly"?

So, as it says to do in the documentation, I've added this code in my config/routes.rb file: resources :dimensions do collection do get "search" end end I've also defined in the dimensions_controller file: def search @dimensions = Dimension.all respond_to do |format| format.html # search.html.erb format.json { render json: @dimensions } end end I then stopped and restarted the rails server, but when I navigate to /dimensions/home, I'm still getting this error message: Couldn't find Dimension with id=search Also showing that my parameter is: {"id"=>"search"} So am I just missing another bit of code that gives the instruction to interpret /dimension/search as a collection action as opposed to the show action?   I'm setting up some simple url rewriting rules using mod_rewrite and a .htacces file, but I've got some problems. If I set up the .htacces this way: Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteRule /index.html /index.php [L] when I call from the browser this url: http://localhost/~dave/mySite/index.html I got a 404 error. Using this .htacces instead Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteRule /index.html http://localhost/~dave/mySite/index.php [L] everything works fine and I get the index.php page I'm expecting. Am I forced to user absolute urls as the target of a rewrite? Is this a Apache configuration problem? I'm using Max OS X 10.6.2 with its standard Apache installation.

I don't know why since my model association are well defined and the event table has the foreign keys for the user table. • Open two new tabs using Javascript

  I have this situation: There are a login page with a login form (form action is $_SERVER['PHP_SELF']). When user login, it will check what application the user can access and open all the application that available for that user in new tab. If user can access application (for example) 'Docs' and 'Sites', it will open 2 tabs. I Open new tab using window.open('app1.html','_newhtml');, some people say that it only works in Firefox. It's OK, no big deal for me. The problem is, It only open 1 tab, although I write it 2 times window.open('app1.html','_newhtml'); window.open('app2.html','_newhtml'); How can I open 2 tabs? are there any hacks from server side or client side programming?

• How to peform an external request in Kohana 3?

  I've always used cURL for this sort of stuff, but this article got me thinking I could request another page easily using the Request object in Kohana 3. $url = 'http://www.example.com'; $update = Request::factory($url); $update->method = 'POST'; $update->post = array( 'key' => 'value' ); $update->execute(); echo $update->response; However I get the error Accessing static property Request::$method as non static From this I can assume it means that the method method is static, but that doesn't help me much. I also copied and pasted the example from that article and it threw the same error. Basically, I'm trying to POST to a new page on an external server, and do it the Kohana way. So, am I doing this correctly, or should I just use cURL (or file_get_contents() with context)?

• Howto get iframe linking to internal document source using javascript/jQuery?

  Hi there, I have an iframe with id "appframe", the source is page.html and it's on the same server. I want to get the source of the page using jQuery. alert($("#appframe").contents().find("html").html()); returns <head></head><body></body> even though the document does not contain those tags, it only contains "Default page", so that is exactly what it should return. Any idea how to get the right source script of the whole document using jQuery? Eg. if the document would be "test" then that is exactly what it should return. Please note: I did ask this before a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, I got no solving answer. Because of my lower reputation (~85), I can not request a bounty... This doesn't make much sense to me. Anyway, it forced me to repost this question.

So, I just split nrNums into nrThreads equal chunks (well, the last one won't be equal; if nrThreads doesn't divide by nrNums, it will also contain the remainder, of course). I start nrThreads threads. They all test each number in their respective chunk and see if it is prime or not; they mark everything out in a bool array that keeps a tab on all the primes. The threads all turn a specific element in another boolean array ThreadsFinished to true when they finish. Now the weird part begins: The threads never all end. If I debug, I find that ThreadNr is not what I assign to it in the loop but another value. I guess this is normal since the threads execute afterwards and the counter (the variable i) is already increased by then but I cannot understand how to make the code be right. Can anyone help? Thank you in advance. P.S.: I know the algorithm is not very efficient; I am aiming at a solution using the sieve of Eratosthenes also with x given threads. But for now I can't even get this one to work and I haven't found any examples of any implementations of that algorithm anywhere in a language that I can understand.

• iPhone CoreData Migration and modifying data

  I have an app that has both static data and user entered data in the CoreData store. I understand how to do a lightweight migration to a new database version, but how to I add or modify the static data without affecting the users data? If I have 50 static data entries to add and a couple to modify (ie. spelling mistakes) should they be stored in a different sqlite db and copied over? Also, is it possible to look at the version of the data store so that this copy only happens the first time the app is started up after upgrading? • How to nest a form in an ASP.NET page (which has a form wrapped around it)

  I am writing HTML to an ASP.NET page (from a web service response), and the HTML has tags. Unfortunately, because the ASP.NET page already has a wrapped around it, a lot of the buttons on the page break. Does anyone know how I can nest the form inside the ASP.NET page without breaking the top-level form? Note: the HTML I am bringing in is a form with a bunch of hidden fields inside of it, and it has to be placed within the ASP.NET page, and thus nested in the top-level form. Thanks
