  • How can I make one child window draw over another within the same form?

    Let's say I have ten child windows within a form. How do I make sure one of those windows is drawn over all the others? For example, how do I make sure that window 6 always overdraws windows 1-5 and 7-10? I don't want the window to be drawn over everything else on the screen, just everything else within that form. I've already tried using HWND_TOPMOST and HWND_TOP (see http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2823700/how-can-i-make-a-child-window-topmost ) but it didn't work. :(

  • Why do I not get low memory issues until images are draw on the screen?

    I am able to load over 200 UIImage objects into a NSMutableDictionary without any memorry warning issues. When I start displaying them on the screen (after about showing 10-20 images) I get low memory warnings and an eventual crash. Only about 8 images are displayed at anyone time. Does it take additional memory to actually draw a UIImage on the screen? No memory leaks are showing up and i've reviewed code for leaks many many times.

  • Cannot work for 2nd iteration because of writing delay.

    My code's IF-THEN does not work for 2nd iteration. This is due to, the jar processing take some time to write it result inside the output.txt. Since the writing is a bit late, my code's 2nd iteration will always read the previous written value inside the output.txt in order to pass it to the IF-THEN. For example, in 1st iteration: output.txt -- 0.9888 twrite.txt -- msg: ok 2nd iteration: output.txt -- 0.5555 twrite.txt -- msg: ok //the IF-THEN still gives this result which is based on previous iteration. it should be msg: not ok . since it is < 0.7 I need help, how to solve this 'delay' problem?     If we want to use n small lines to outline our circle then we can just divide both the circumference and 360 degrees by n (i.e , (2*pi*r)/n and 360/n).   • Which network protocol to use for lightweight notification of remote apps?

    I have this situation.... Client-initiated SOAP 1.1 communication between one server and let's say, tens of thousands of clients. Clients are external, coming in through our firewall, authenticated by certificate, https, etc.. They can be anywhere, and usually have their own firewalls, NAT routers, etc... They're truely external, not just remote corporate offices. They could be in a corporate/campus network, DSL/Cable, even Dialup. Client uses Delphi (2005 + SOAP fixes from 2007), and the server is C#, but from an architecture/design standpoint, that shouldn't matter. Currently, clients push new data to the server and pull new data from the server on 15-minute polling loop. The server currently does not push data - the client hits the "messagecount" method, to see if there is new data to pull. If 0, it sleeps for another 15 min and checks again. We're trying to get that down to 7 seconds. If this were an internal app, with one or just a few dozen clients, we'd write a cilent "listener" soap service, and would push data to it. But since they're external, sit behind their own firewalls, and sometimes private networks behind NAT routers, this is not practical. So we're left with polling on a much quicker loop. 10K clients, each checking their messagecount every 10 seconds, is going to be 1000/sec messages that will mostly just waste bandwidth, server, firewall, and authenticator resources. So I'm trying to design something better than what would amount to a self-inflicted DoS attack. I don't think it's practical to have the server send soap messages to the client (push) as this would require too much configuration at the client end. But I think there are alternatives that I don't know about. Such as: 1) Is there a way for the client to make a request for GetMessageCount() via Soap 1.1, and get the response, and then perhaps, "stay on the line" for perhaps 5-10 minutes to get additional responses in case new data arrives? i.e the server says "0", then a minute later in response to some SQL trigger (the server is C# on Sql Server, btw), knows that this client is still "on the line" and sends the updated message count of "5"? 2) Is there some other protocol that we could use to "ping" the client, using information gathered from their last GetMessageCount() request? 3) I don't even know. I guess I'm looking for some magic protocol where the client can send a GetMessageCount() request, which would include info for "oh by the way, in case the answer changes in the next hour, ping me at this address...". Also, I'm assuming that any of these "keep the line open" schemes would seriously impact the server sizing, as it would need to keep many thousands of connections open, simultaneously. That would likely impact the firewalls too, I think. Is there anything out there like that? Or am I pretty much stuck with polling? TIA, Chris

  • sql server 2008 takes alot of memory?

    I making stress test on my database which is hosted on sqlserver 2008 64bit running on 64bit machine 10 GB of RAM. I have 400 threads each thread query the database for every second but the query time does not take time as the sql profiler says that, but after 18 hours sql takes 7.2 GB RAM and 7.2 on virtual memroy. Does is this normal behavior? and how can I adjust sql to clean up not in use memory?

  • Can I add a delay to sql server transactional replication ?

    I've got transactional replication configured from a database called DBProd to another database called DBWarehouse ; everything works fine, and transaction are usually replicated instantaneously to the warehouse .... which is my problem. I'd like to add a slight delay to the replication (something like 10 minutes), so that the replicated database can be used to access a previous version of the database (in case a bug occurs for example) Is there a simple way to achieve this ?

  • Why might my Xcode be crashing (or at least displaying an error on launch)?

    I am getting an error thrown when I launch my Xcode 3.2 all of a sudden: Uncaught Exception: * -[NSCFArray initWithObjects:count:]: attempt to insert nil object at objects[0] I can click through the error and Xcode seems to launch properly. I removed and reinstalled Xcode to no avail, and yet cannot find a config or perference that might be the culprit. I am running on 10.6.3 fwiw.... Has anyone else run into this problkem? TIA!   • jQuery check on wordchange rather than "change" trigger

    I have a input that the user types a search parameter into, at the moment i have it on keyup to do a POST ajax request to a PHP script that returns search results. however its firing off 50 billion (not literally) post requests in about 10 seconds (as the user types) which slows the whole experience down. Can i use jQuery to detect a "wordup" rather than "keyup" by detecting the use of the space bar? Does this make sense?

  • Flash AS3 Mysterious Blinking MovieClip

    This is the strangest problem I've faced in flash so far. I have no idea what's causing it. I can provide a .swf if someone wants to actually see it, but I'll describe it as best I can. I'm creating bullets for a tank object to shoot. The tank is a child of the document class. The way I am creating the bullet is: var bullet:Bullet = new Bullet(); (parent as MovieClip).addChild(bullet); The bullet itself simply moves itself in a direction using code like this.x += 5; The problem is the bullets will trace for their creation and destruction at the correct times, however the bullet is sometimes not visible until half way across the screen, sometimes not at all, and sometimes for the whole traversal. Oddly removing the timer I have on bullet creation seems to solve this. The timer is implemented as such: if(shot_timer == 0) { shoot(); // This contains the aforementioned bullet creation method shot_timer = 10; My enter frame handler for the tank object controls the timer and decrements it every frame if it is greater than zero. Can anyone suggest why this could be happening? My problem is can one user who use one browser to log in to the system have multiple session at a time. Reason is when i use the tool to use monitor the firewall I can see more than 10 sessions are active for one IP. How this can happen? any comments
