• How can the original icons and fonts be restored in ubuntu 12.10?

  Recently i installed cairo-dock and changed the original ubuntu theme. then i uninstalled it. but the icons on the left side didn't restored into its original look. Somewhere I found a command sudo apt-get autoremove --purge light-themes sudo apt-get install light-themes After running this command the theme didn't changed but it seems that the font of the original ubuntu changed a little. I want the theme of ubuntu as it was when i newly installed it. Moreover, the alt+tab and some other key combination not working normally. please help.

• wireless not connecting in 12.04 update

  I just updated from 10.04 to 12.04. I am not very knowledgeable at all with Ubuntu since it is still relatively new to me. I went through the whole update today and yesterday and now that it is finished it will not acknowledge that there are any wireless connections around, nor does it give me an option to pick one. it just tells me what ones I've used in the past. is there any way that someone can help me? I have read through and attempted almost every fix that everyone has found and nothing is working and I'm super confused.

• How do I stop that launcher from popping up when mouse goes to the left edge?

  This is what it says on the help.ubuntu.com website, but when i go to system settings, it does not have a Launcher & Menus option. I wish I could revert back to the old Ubuntu, I hate this launcher. Does any know a fix plz? I have this bit of code but it makes items fall from the top down.   I have as issue i am Ubuntu desktop and i have installed virtual-box(4.1) ISSUE:- Ubuntu 11.10 desktop is my host operating system and on Virtual-box i installed Ubuntu server selecting bridge adapter as my first adapter by default my network interfaces file get ip address by dhcp server but i want to setup an static ip. by changing network interface file to static and gave some static ips my internet stop working on guest operating system(virtual-box - Ubuntu server). Can any one help me how can i setup static on virtual-box so that my internet will work too on my guest operating system. thanks in advance.

• No keyring secrets found for [ssid] /802-11-wireless-security, ubuntu 12.04

  I'm on Ubuntu 12.04 x64bit, installed it couple of days ago. The issue i'm having is this: on startup it connects to my wireless without a problem, but after a while I am disconnected and prompted to enter the key for the wireless network (which is entered - saved) so i just click 'ok', but wireless doesn't connect again. Reseting network manager doesn't help either. Only restart, after which, ubuntu connects to the said wireless without a problem. Terminal outputs this error message: ** Message: No keyring secrets found for cimermanovic /802-11-wireless-security; asking user. cimermanovic is the ssid name. also, here are some error messages that network manager is giving: (nm-applet:31926): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_scale_simple: assertion `dest_width 0' failed (nm-applet:31693): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_scale_simple: assertion `dest_width 0' failed (nm-applet:30184): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_scale_simple: assertion `dest_width 0' failed What should i do to fix this? • No Grapical log in or anything just terminal code!!

  I just install the unity alpha state 3, and i came across two errors, one stating it could not install a desktop feature or so and the other just had some errors that i had snap shot the error. When it says it was complete I restarted it and after it booted up, i see a long line of boot codes and then it stop with log in name and the after i put my log in name it ask for a password, but the thing is that their was no graphical lil window having my picture and my name, all I see was codes from terminal even after it admitted me in. Black screen white coding like it was a terminal on full screen only every thing was via terminal!!! HELP!!!!

• On restart server Ethernet went down saying not configured!

  i justy have configured my dhcp server with static ip. after configuration dhcp server & routers were working fine. but after restarting server network connectivity went off. there are two lan cards but none of them is up.i tried setting up manually ip address again but it remains same. when i executed sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart i got this message * Running /etc/init.d/networking restart is deprecated because it may not enable again some interfaces * Reconfiguring network interfaces... /bin/sh: cannot open /etc/iptables_rules: No such file Failed to bring up eth0. i have configured my server according to this What is it the problem with ubuntu 11.10 or some configuration error. i am not getting it please help me.

• Is it possible to construct a cube with less than 24 vertices

  I have a cube-based world like minecraft and I'm wondering if there's a way to construct a cube with less than 24 vertices so I can reduce memory usage. It doesn't seem possible to me for 2 reasons: the normals wouldn't come out right and per-face textures wouldn't work. Is this the case or am I wrong? Maybe there's some fancy new dx11 tech that can help? Edit: Just to clarify, I have 2 requirements: I need surface normals for each cube face in order to do proper lighting and I need a way to address a different indexes in a texture array for each cube face

• Set vertex position

  Can anyone tell me how to set the positions of model vertices? I want to be able to change the position of some of the vertices of a Model. Is there any way to make that happen? And make the changed visible at that moment. EDIT: Well, the thing is,I have a model, a cube, that is made up of four "thin" cubes(top,bottom,left side, right side), so I get this cube with "hole" in the middle. And I want to scale it on Y axis. If I do Scale(0,2,0) it will scale the whole object meaning, it will double the Y size of left and right side, but also double the size of the top and bottom cube, which I do not want. Same for X axis I want to double the size of top and bottom cubes but not the left and right one. Hope you can help

• How do I play HD video without it stuttering?

  Hello All, I want play a Blu Ray Video from my hard drive with Boxee, but it chokes all the time. I've tried to play it with others video players but it is the same. I think that is a 10gb .mkv file with 10Gb. Stuttering video with VLC , mplayer, and the default video player on ubuntu. I read in many Forums just can´t put this to work. Any idea? thanks. Ubuntu 10.10, My PC specs: Single Core 2Ghz ATI HD 4350 (i have installed the drivers from "Hardware Drivers"), 2G Memory *EDIT: Problem solved, this weekend had buy a motherboard and a processor DualCore 2.5Ghz, no more stuttering. thanks alot for your help.

• Setting TeX Live path for root

  I have installed TeX Live 2011 vanilla and I have trouble setting the TeX Live path for root (in Ubuntu 11.10). The problem is that when I run sudo tlmgr I get: sudo: tlmgr: command not found To fix the path for non-root it was sufficient to add PATH=/usr/local/texlive/2011/bin/x86_64-linux:$PATH to /etc/profile. I have tried adding this same line to /root/.bashrc and I have also tried to add it to /etc/profile.d/zzz-texlive.sh like Herbert suggest in http://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/26624/tlmgr-inaccessible/26626#26626 but it does not help.

• dhcp configuration not working ubuntu 11.10

  I am usually behind a proxy server in college so I connect to the ethernet or wifi using manual IPv4 addresses only inside college. I have been trying really hard to get the internet work at home, there is no proxy and I have set the network to use automatic dhcp. It seems like it is not able to connect to the port, It gets disconnected after some time automatically and then tries to reconnect. The same thing is happening with wifi networks also, after some time i see a pop up asking for authentication and ultimately its not able to connect. What might be the problem here. I looked up some similar questions and checked the /etc/network/interfaces file and looks like this: auto lo iface lo inet loopback I have no idea what those lines mean but there is no configuration for eth0 or wlan0. Any help is deeply appreciated. Ubuntu loses it charms due to these small glitches.

• Mouse disables on key press, but touchpad doesn't

  My mouse cursor disables for 1-2 seconds when the keyboard is used. This can make gaming especially difficult. The touchpad is fine; I can use it at the same time as the keyboard. Doing some forum searching, I can see that going to mouse and touchpad touchpad disable touchpad when typing works for the touchpad, but I still have the problem when using the mouse. I've tried using synaptiks, and setting the 'automatically switch off touchpad on keyboard activity' time to 0 seconds doesn't seem to work either. I'd appreciate any help.

  Windows died. So, I installed ubuntu, and have had difficulties downloading apps from the internet like skype or realplayer... etc. And It does not recognize my password. I needed to install drivers for my wireless from cd-rom. It does not show where to save new downloaded files and programs, and app and does not show how to install like windows does. So I would like to go back to windows. Window does not not start up anymore and I can not get safe mode with F8. It goes to black screen only and none of other parameters work when press f8! Any help is highly valued.

• Even More Steroids for JEditorPane

  Got some help from Ralph today and now the JEditorPane is as I want it, e.g., code folds are now supported once you click in the JEditorPane, though there are still some side effects, since this is not how anyone anticipated NetBeans editor APIs being used. But, so far, the side effects (e.g., now the hyperlinks work, but they open a new JavaScript file when you click on one of them, instead of jumping within the JEditorPane itself) are not so terrible. Error checking is also done now, which wasn't there before, i.e., red underlines and error annotations in the right margin. And maybe it's my imagination, but the editor feels a lot snappier, e.g., in code completion, than before. • Do search engines crawl PDFs and if so are there any rules to follow when making them

  The website I am working on has a few hundred PDFs in it. I don't think I have ever seen any of them come back in a search but there are linked to directly from out site. They are also full of keywords because they are product documents. Is there anything special we need to do to get Google or other search engines to crawl them? Is there any hard and fast rules for making PDFs to help Google like them more? For instance should I run them through ghostscript to clean up broken PDF tags that Adobe creates during generation?

  I've just installed UBUNTU 12.04 for curiosity purposes. I'm a gamer and I wanted to install Brute force Save data on my comp. So i download it and it open in the Archive manager i go to run the ".exe" but encounter this message Archive: /home/c4/Desktop/Bruteforce_Save_Data_installer.exe [/home/c4/Desktop/Bruteforce_Save_Data_installer.exe] End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. • Do search engines rank internal redirects negatively?

  A client is in the late stages (code complete) of a website redesign and unfortunately hasn't implemented 301 redirects to point high traffic pages to the new URL's. As I understand it our only option at this point is to create redirects within the CMS. Our CMS allows us to do this: www.mysite.com/category/current-page.html will redirect to www.mysite.com/new-category-name/new-page.html The site now uses custom logic on our 404 page to check this list of redirects and if one exists forwards the user to the new-page.html I understand that using 301 redirects would be the correct way to maintain our page rank but I think that would require a code change which isn't possible. Question How will search engines respond to this? Will they wait until the redirect happens and allow us to keep our page rank (authority, trust, etc) or will they see the 404 page and down-rank us? Worst case...will they make our new-page.html start from a rank of "0"? Thanks for your help.

• Using Linux as guest on vmware and sharing connection with windows vista

  I been trying for weeks with vmwware player, now d/l vmwware work station 7, Have a laptop with one built in modem and a usb modem I bought, It works great switching it over from host to use in ubuntu to connect to the net, now when I use that modem from the host to connect online I have no trouble getting ubuntu to share the internet connection, But tried with NAT bridge host and all to get it to work from ubuntu to share the internet connection to windows vista, the host, I know it should work if it works the other way around, I tried setting up my wlan0 eht0 and eth1 to the correct IP can get both systems to notice each other by name and ip, but cant get them to share the connection from guest to host, I've tried iptables and all as well, Can someone please help me out with this? I am sure It is something something I'm over looking, Thanks in advance
