• How much visitors could handle my server ?

  I have a website, and I want to host it on my own computer, but I'm wondering if it's good enough. The website check`s if the user is logged in and then displays 15 items (title, description) from a mysql database and the rating (stored in another database) and the comments (another database) for each item. It also displays some stats (number of items, comments). I also have an image for each item. My specs are: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5600+ 2.90 GHz RAM memory: 4.00GB Windows 7 64bit So what do you think, how much visitors and items could it handle (at once or daily) ? My internet connection is good, around 7-10 mb upload and same download speed

• I want to make "stuff" on the web, is a BsC. in Computers necessary/overkill? [on hold]

  I'm 24 and have a lead role in a major news outlet in my country, with a good pay and public image in the horizon. I hold a job that was previously held by people with 15-20 years of experience and considered one of the top 5 news anchors in my country. My passion though, is computers. The web, to be precise. I was a problogger at a very young age. I hacked my way through CSS and some basic HTML and PHP. But I want to move forward - I want to CREATE not just STRUCTURE things. Giving up the present (and especially the seemingly promising future) in my current industry is hard, my friends raise their eyebrows... I'm considering a BsC. in computer Engineering - but my stats are short of getting into a good university for this discipline. Plus, I'm not the best with math - although I do exceptionally well in statistics and other numbers that are more applicable to real life. I tried learning PHP through online websites, but that just "doesn't cut it" for me. Nope. So what are my options here? if I don't want to build hardware or and deal with overly-complex algorithmic but would like, for example - to build a well functioning iPhone and iPad app, or a SaaS, a startup...do I have to go the BsC. route? I don't see any option to get an "official" education in strictly "web" concepts and languages.. Note: I'm well off financially, so I'm doing this more to be able to create stuff, rather than get a job in a corporations. Although if I land somewhere high, that might be an option. But my main concern is getting the tools.

• Run BGInfo At Startup For All Users

  I have a Windows 7 image which I intend to deploy across a business. For simplicity I intend to install BGInfo on each machine and have it update each time a user logs in. From what I can see, when BGInfo creates a configuration file, the file contains variables which are local to each account - and therefore the configuration file will only work on the user account that created it. Has anyone any idea as to how make these configuration files 'generic' so that BGInfo will work for all accounts when they log in? At present I have the BGInfor application and a BGInfo configuration file saved on the C drive and I have written a batch file which is stored in the 'All Users/Start Menu/Startup' directory (which executes every time any user on the computer logs in), however this only works for the account which created the configuration file. • Few questions about backing up the OS

  I'm running windows 7 with 2gb memory and 2.50 Ghz dual core cpu. here are my question regarding backing up an entire drive. I plan to use Macrium Reflect because its free. And I can't afford to buy one. If I backup a hard drive would I only be able to backup the partition where the operating system is? If I have installed applications which requires activation keys, and I have already installed an activation key. Does backing the hard drive also backup those application, so that I won't have to re-apply the keys later? If I have a multi-boot system, would the backup also include those other OS that are installed in my hard drive? Can I still boot into them after restoring the image? Do you have any links there that could enlighten me on what drive backup really is. Thanks!

• ASUS N550 laptop not charging on ubuntu after updating kernel

  I'm using Ubuntu 13.10 on a pretty new ASUS N550jv laptop. When I was using kernel linux-image-3.11.0-11 everything was quite well (kinda..), however, when I updated the kernel using the automatic update, the kernels which were released afterwards (12+) were faulty on my machine, and caused the battery not to be charged and only stay at their current charging level (even when the machine was off!) The only fix I had was to roll-back to the '..11' version (on boot screen - advanced options), and hard-reboot (AC cord disconnected and reconnected) but now version 14 was released and "pushed away" the good old version 11. How can I fix that?? Please help me...

• When uninstalling all GRUB packages for EC2 AMI build script, how do I bypass prompting?

  When I try to uninstall all GRUB packages from the cloud-image version of Ubuntu I use in AWS EC2, I get an interactive prompt. I need put this all in a script under automation, so prompts need to be avoided. I have searched for means to bypass this, and all of the features like debconf apply to prompts for config settings which can be provided in advance. But the prompt I am getting is not a config prompt. It would be in the class of "are you sure" prompts. I tried --force-all and that did not work. The prompt is referring to the files in /boot/grub so I tried by first doing "rm -fr /boot/grub" (they do all go away) and it still prompts to ask me if I want to delete them even though there is nothing to delete. The wording of the prompt is: Do you want to have all GRUB 2 files removed from /boot/grub? This will make the system unbootable unless another boot loader is installed. Remove GRUB 2 from /boot/grub? <YES> <NO> The command I am doing is: dpkg --purge grub-common grub-gfxpayload-lists grub-legacy-ec2 grub-pc grub-pc-bin grub2-common How can I get past this prompt without trying to encapsulate it in something that tries to answer (which itself has issues when there is no TTY so I want to avoid that) ?

I have DirectX 11 and I am trying to update my drivers... During the update of the latest one: GeForce 306.23 Driver my screen flashes a bit and goes black. This is standard when updating GRAPHIC DRIVERS. Then... my screen shifts 50 pixels or so to the left... OFFSCREEN. Not even Auto Image Adjust will fix the screen back... Then after that happens, I get this: Help, please? I just want to update my graphic drivers....

• Removing BIOS Post Messages

  I am working on a project where a standard x86 desktop system will boot and run a single program until it is shut down. I would like to remove all the bios post messages so that it looks a little more "finished" and cleaner when it starts up. I was hoping that there might by a standard implementation/terms to know about so I can avoid having to dig through every manual to see if there are options, or get some advice on a standard set of tools I should be using. I was thinking about getting a board that has an image that covers up the post messages until you press a key and trying to customize it to all black, but it's not clear if this is a good direction. I started looking for OEM motherboards but my searches were filled with standard commercial stuff, or seemed to be way to big for my toy project. What is the best way to go about removing all the bios post messages and just having a blank screen or "loading" message until OS loads?

I told him doing a clean install will make it like new, but he says you can't download a bootable disk image from the appstore to do this. He doesn't want to torrent it because he thinks the store will know it's a ripped version. Is there a way for him to remove his Admin account so that none of his personal info remians on the machine?

  I have a xen server with xen-4.1.3, linux-image-3.2.0-3-amd64, debian squeeze and 16Gb of RAM. The domain-0 has 1Gb of ram, the rest of memory belongs to the hypervisor. I want to start a guest domain with a minimal amount of memory and increase it runtime later. • Change windows default path or last used path for saving files? Is that possible?

  I'm trying to change the default saving path to my specfied path for example if the file is picture (.jpg .gif etc..) and using google chrome I save an image the path can be anything from default or last used so I want it to be mine specfied for example I choose "C:\SaveHerePics" I don't know how you can change it maybe Registry? Dll? I would like to create vb.net program with textbox you choose the new location to be located every time for example "C:\SaveHerePics" and it should not have anything to do with this program even if you close the program the default location for pictures saved via any program or source saved to "C:\SaveHerePics" Thanks a lot for your help!

• Move 2TB Win7x64 to 640GB HDD

  Basically I just got a new (refurbished) HP H8-1260t to use for Windows Media Center. The shipping drive is a 2TB Hitachi drive, but I have an older and barely used 640GB WD Caviar Blue 7200RPM drive I would like to move my Windows install to. I have about 750GB of data with over 1TB free left on the drive. Having googled my heart and fingers out, I would think that I can shrink my partition down to the size it is full at now with over 1TB free for a second partition where I can move my media files to further shrink my boot partition so that I can fit a system image smaller than 640GB on that WD drive. I want to have a separate drive for Media and TV Recordings from my boot disk. Does this sound like the easiest method for me? Or am I doing this all wrong. Help appreciated.

• How do I get my XFX Radeon HD 7870 to work with 3 monitors using HDMI, DVI, and Mini DisplayPort?

  I bought a XFX Double D FX-787A-CDFC Radeon HD 7870 and set it up using the HDMI, DVI and Mini DisplayPort (using an Apple mDP-to-VGA adapter). I hooked it up, installed the drivers and rebooted. The image came up on the third monitor in a weird resolution. Why did this happen and how can I fix it? I am using Windows 7 Ultimate and the system is completely updated. Side note: When I disconnect the Mini DisplayPort adapter it works fine, however for my work I need 3-4 monitors.

• permission for "users" directory for a mounted vmdk file

  I mounted one vmdk file in my windows 8 machine and I am able to access all the folders and files except those in "users\ directory. When I try to open, it says I dont have permission. I am not able to give the permission even. Any one can tell me how to open the users directory? I have very important files in the desktop folder which can be acessed through \users\\desktop. What is the alternate way of accessing the folder? I lost the password to boot up the vm image.

  My question is very similar to Ubuntu 13.10, kernel still 3.8.0-31-generic. Recently was updating to Saucy and the ethernet cable got unplugged. So I decided to run Software Update again, to reinstall files. It returned that "everything is up to date". But according to these command-line searches, that is incorrect. • Rowspan not using top row

  I don't understand why my column won't span to the top and bottom rows I created. It is supposed to look like the "Today" column is taller on the top and bottom then the other columns. I tried accomplishing this by adding rows above and below it and then using rowspan. For some reason, it only works on the bottom row. It's a lot of code, and I wasn't sure what I should cut without deforming it all or adding a new variable (it needs a fluid height).   SO I am trying to setup a RewriteRule on my server for caching static objects. the files are in this naming scheme /docroot/css/stylesheet.min.css and I have them printed in the code like /docroot/css/stylesheet.min.123438348.css (the number is example it comes from a get modified function). Note docroot is an example directory how can I have the server ignore the numbers and redirect to the stylesheet.min.css I need to do this for every css and js files (/js and /css) as well as one specific spritemap image my current attempt RewriteRule ^/(docroot)/(js|css)/(.+).(min).(.+).(js|css)$ /$1/$2/$3.$4.$6 RewriteRule ^(/docroot/images/spritemap).([0-9]+).(png)$ $1.$3 Update: Now I have the setup like this RewriteEngine on Options FollowSymLinks RewriteRule ^(.+).(min).([0-9]+).(js|css)$ $1.$2.$4 [L] This is rewriting localhost/docroot/css/stylesheet.min.12343242.css to /var/www/html/docroot/trunk/docroot/css/stylesheet.min.css so it is getting the right file how do I get apache to take off the beginning of the that the /var/www/html/docroot/trunk/

  In one of the questions before (October 2009) the question has been answered how to get an ACER Aspire 5102WLMI with 4GB of memory up and running beyond POST. I have exactly that problem, but don’t get it resolved despite your answer. I really don't know which PCB tracks have to be shortened and the 'jumper' J2 doesn't exist. There is a JP2, but that seems to be no jumper to me. I have made a photograph of the PCB tracks under the DIMMs. Would you please be so kind to give me a clue what to do (referring to that picture)? • How to maximize parallel download from S3

  I got a lot of images to load from Amazon S3 on a single page, and sometimes it takes quite some time to load all the images. I heard that splitting the images to load from different sub-domains would help parallel downloads, however what is the actual implementation on that? While it is easy to split for sub-domains like static,image, etc; Should I make like 10 sub-domains (image1, image2...) to load say 100 images? Or is there some clever ways to do? (By the way I am considering using memcache to cache the S3images; I am not sure if it is possible. I would be grateful for any further comments. Thanks a lot!

• Destination host unreachable

  I have 2 router connected to 1 switch which contains two vlans, 1 router has the ip table of vlan1 and the other router have the ip table of vlan2 I have trunked both router cable to the switch. I have set 1 ip table per router which correspond to the ip address of the PC that have this router address as a gateway. When I ping from 192.168.100.2 to 192.168.200.2 it tells me that destination host is unreachable and the message is from the router 192.168.100.1. So I guess router for 192.168.100.x does not see the router for 192.168.200.x , right ? Or am I wrong ? However, I am trying to install the Redis package: http://packages.ubuntu.com/lucid/redis-server Maybe I am not googling properly or just stupid since the weekend is approaching, but I'll keep getting errors: root@ip-10-229-123-199:~# sudo apt-get install redis-server Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree... Done E: Couldn't find package redis-server I'll assume that I need to add a repository or something to Ubuntu to help it find the package I want, but how do I do it? • Too Many ESTABLISHED connection from a single IP address in Apache

  netstat -ntp |grep 80 shows too many ESTABLISHED connection from single IP address. Around 300 of them and it is not an attack and user is using a 2G connection to access Apache. This is the case with other 2G connections also. As a result of this Apache is running out of children. Earlier it was showing too many close_wait and after enabling tcp_tw_reuse and tcp_tw-recycle there is not much close_wait but the number of ESTABLISHED connections increased. We are using Ubuntu 11.04 having 48 GB ram keepalive On keepalive timeout 10 max clients 800 max-request-perchild 4000 timeout 300 I have set syn_ack to 1 and syn_retries to 2. On wifi there is no such issue. Connections are closing properly, but with 2G connections Apache is running out of children and too many ESTABLISHED connection. also i have tried setting timeout from default 300 to 30,but since our project is image hosting for mobile phones,clients couldn't upload images properly as they are getting frequent time out.Also there were a lot of 408 messages so changed it to the default 300
