  SharePoint, WCF and Azure Trainings: more information SharePoint 2013 (foundation too), detects requests from mobile devices and automatically changes the uRL of the requested non mobile page to its mobile substitute. This logic is now built into SPRequestModule. The mobile view is pretty damned amazing. Even though the set of pages for mobile access is completely different, SharePoint has an entirely separate set of controls for the mobile pages. These are in the Microsoft.SharePoint.MobileControls namespace which inherit from Microsoft ASP.NET controls in the System.Web.UI.MobileControls namespace. Microsoft MVP (most valuable professional) title is well known as an honor title for professionals not working for MS directly but who did a lot to popularize MS technologies. This title does not require any certification or any other proof of knowledge by the nominee and is awarded solely upon the one's contribution to community. As a member of Intel Developer Network I am also aware of Intel Black Belt award, that is in many aspects similar to Microsoft MVP. But this is all I know. Are there any other honor awards from top players in software industry?

• Paren-free PHP? [on hold]

  I stumbled upon the idea for paren-free ecmascript (https://brendaneich.com/2010/11/paren-free/), which is inspired by Go language. And it's simple, clean and cool - if you make braces required instead of recommended (and they are recommended everywhere anyway: http://www.php-fig.org/psr/psr-2/), then parenthesis are unneeded around control structure “heads”. It would work exactly the same in PHP. So, a piece of PHP code could look like this: if $someVar == 42 { doSomething(); } or: foreach $someArray as $key => $value { echo "$key: $value"; } It's a small, but nice step towards a nicer, cleaner syntax and removing unnecessary parts. The question is - would PHP community be willing to see the languange move in that direction? Would it be considered an improvement by majority, or are we too used to typing those parenthesis and unwilling to see any change in PHP syntax?

• Going from webforms, VS 2008, 3.5 framework to the "next level" based on my goals

  I've got a few choices to make as I develop some business websites that will run for the next two to three years. Currently I run ASP.NET 3.5 with Visual Studio 2008. I do my development rather crudely in WebForms because that's what I learned and am most productive with. I don't use Membership or any other frameworks in my projects. I use a simple class that maintains a few session keys for each user based on basic database tables for users and roles. (I have about 3,000 users). So far I've kept the data simple, using ADO.NET against SQL Server and a data access class (Circa 2000, I know) to build my sites. My questions are as follows: Under what conditions would I be better off moving to MVC? Under what conditions would I find LINQ and ORM a better way to go than standard ADO.NET? Would I benefit, in my current state of development, from going from Studio 2008 to Studio 2010?

  I attended a Microsoft Office and SharePoint 2010 HOL 1 day workshop last week and wanted to setup a VM to try the new features in my own laptop. The presenter in the workshop implicitly mentioned a tool called VirtualBox (because it's not a MS product?) but I have no clue what it is at that moment.   I am building a very small e-commerce site, and I need a free and simple to use/deploy/integrate shopping cart that I can add into my website in order to be able to sell a FEW items. I want the shopping cart to be an add-on in my website, nothing fancy.Ideally when a person clicks on the "Add to cart" button, they will be redirected to the shopping cart, which will then handle different types of payment methods, and everything else you would expect from a fully working shopping cart. I am currently developing my website using the following tools/frameworks: SQL Server 2008 R2 Visual Studio 2010 (ASP.NET 4.5 - C#) HTML5,CSS3, and JS. I am interested in also using PayPal alongside my shopping cart. Help of any kind is appreciated!!

  This being my first time going to TechEd and I want to make sure that I get the most out of it.  The first goal is to make sure that I get to the sessions that cover as many topics as possible.  This is important for me as a Solution Architect consultant specializing in Microsoft technologies.  To this end I have spent some time going through the sessions on the myTechEd site. The other reason for the trip is to connect with the Microsoft development community.  This includes both members of my local Midwest community and the global communities that I have only had online connections with.  Sharing the experience and getting a chance to exchange ideas with new and old friends is a great part of any convention.   Now that Visual Studio 2010 is here with more options and better colors, there are a few things that have changed a little and might confused you a bit. For example the good HttpUtility, if you are creating a Windows Console application or a Windows Service and you want to use that awesome class full of goodies, you would try to go to reference and add System.Web.dll, yet in the list that dll will be missing.
