I have the program below, but somehow GAE always seem to return a object. B] Tutorial link being used -- http://code.google.com/appengine/articles/djangoforms.html C] Question: In the application i am building, there is a drop down box which allows the user to select their country. Since the list of countries is above 200, i want to construct a database of the countries before the application loads. Once this application is deployed, i dont want the database to get re-loaded again, since the entries are constant for all the users. How does one achieve this ? thanks, Lance.

  • Android: Maps - Best way to provide 'search for location' feature?

    Hello all, I've got an android app that uses a map activity and serves up content based on map location. I'm looking for a way to allow the user to search for a location by name (anything from 'New York' to 'Eiffel Tower') - e.g. have a text input field into which they could type 'Rome' - after pressing a button, the user would be brought to the coordinates of Rome on the map. What would be the best way to go about this? I've looked into the google geocoding api (http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/geocoding/), but it has limitations of 2,500 geolocation requests per day - I'm presuming this is per API key? Or is it per user/source IP? 2,500 requests for one android app woudln't last long. Ideally, I would be able to search for English and foreign names of countries. Thanks in advance! r3mo

    Direct question - How would I place certain objects or small text within a certain area. For example, how would I replace the following image with html/javascript. --- I don't have enough reps to post an image :/ but try this URL - http://i.imgur.com/a3eWL.jpg Big picture - I am trying to create a kml file for Google Earth that when the point is clicked, the balloon description window pops up and I can display my html formatted diagram showing where the satellites are at that instant. Google Earth and KML docs allow for pretty much any html formatting within it, so currently looking for a good way to do this.   • Objectify - Retrieve subclass instances with superclass query

    for a project i'm making, i'm using Objectify and Google AppEngine I'm quoting and old message from Google Groups, but the problem i have is the same: Here's the problem I'm trying to solve: I'd like to persist instances of several subclasses of one superclass to the datastore, and then retrieve them by querying for that superclass. (For example, a query for Game would return instances of Chess and Backgammon). Is there any way to accomplish this using Objectify? Because the thing i want is the same, but the topic does not provides yet an answer (it's 3 years old), I moved here with the same question. From 2010 to now, this question has been solved?   • HTML5 Search Input: No Background Image in Chrome?

    I have been pulling my hair out trying to get Chrome to style my search input with a background image. Firefox has no problem, but I fear it's because it treats the input as a regular text input. Is this simply not possible? Try this as a demo: <input type="search" /> ?input[type="search"] { background: transparent url(http://google.com/intl/en_ALL/images/srpr/logo1w.png) no-repeat 0 0; }?????? If it worked correctly, it should put Google's logo (or part of it) as the background image for the "Search" input. But as you will see when you look at this in Chrome, it DOES NOT WORK. Any ideas, or is this just one of HTML5's quirks? :\

  • UnicodeDecodeError from a GET-parameter in webapp2

    I'm getting a UnicodeDecodeError when recieving a GET-parameter from webapp2 that contains unicode characters, and then using it to do a NDB query. I get the same error message when manually running a unicode() on the parameter in the handler, so there either seems to be a problem in webapp2's URL routing or I've missed something. Preferably, all GET-parameters should be converted to unicode before getting passed into the handler so I don't need to do manual conversions in all of my handlers. I actually think it's worked before in an earlier version. The full error message read: UnicodeDecodeError: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xc3 in position 1: ordinal not in range(128) The GET-parameter contains the following string: göteborg. It looks fine when I raise an Exception on it, but gives me an error when I (or NDB) use unicode() on it. EDIT: In NDB, it fails on the following code: File "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\google_appengine\google\appengine\api\datastore_types.py", line 1562, in PackString pbvalue.set_stringvalue(unicode(value).encode('utf-8')) Thanks.

I think this function fills the results next to the map: function OnLocalSearch() My question is: how can I change the results displayed? Right now, by default it shows the Name of the business and the address. How can I disable the business link? And then add more text to each search result?

People click on an album to go to a details page. I want google to index my front page and the details page. I want the details page to be highly ranked. How can I build a sitemap for this? By the way, I have about 5 million albums (but I want the top 1000 ones to be highly ranked on google)

  • Problems with jQuery getJSON using local files in Chrome

    I have a very simple test page that uses XHR requests with jQuery's $.getJSON and $.ajax methods. The same page works in some situations and not in others. Specificially, it doesn't work in Chrome on Ubuntu. I'm testing on Ubuntu 9.10 with Chrome 5.0.342.7 beta and Mac OSX 10.6.2 with Chrome 5.0.307.9 beta. It works correctly when files are installed on a web server from both Ubuntu/Chrome and Mac/Chrome (try it out here). It works correctly when files are installed on local hard drive in Mac/Chrome (accessed with file:///...). It FAILS when files are installed on local hard drive in Ubuntu/Chrome (access with file:///...).   • Composite operations in Android Canvas

The HTML 5 canvas supports composite operations (See here). Is this possible in an Android Canvas? I scanned the API of the Canvas class but couldn't find anything useful. My requirement is to type rough address info with no comma separators into a simple text box, press a find button, wait a few seconds and then observe a result picklist. I mocked up something here using the virtual earth SDK. Does Google Maps have a similar API? Which street address search service is better?

    Hi there, I'm using this code to implement the like button <fb:like layout="button_count" show_faces="false" width="450"></fb:like> But when I try to click it the counter is increased for about 1 second and then it goes back to zero again. I can't see on my facebook profile that i've liked something either. Someone have a solution for this? I'm using the newest JavaScript SDk in an Google App engine/ Django environment.

  • Troubleshooting Facebook's graph.put_object that returns error 400

    I am using Facebook Python's SDK along with Google App Engine, and making a call to do a checkin: graph.put_object("me", "checkins", message="Hello, world", place="165039136840558", coordinates='{"latitude":"38.2454064", "longitude":"-122.0434404"}') However, this throws an error 400 Bad Request and I don't seem to be able to try catch it so I can have the important information. On a bad request, Facebook should return, an object like below which can help troubleshoot and address the issue, but I am not sure how I can retrieve this object: { "error": { "type" : "OAuthException", "message" : "An active access token must be used to query information about the current user." } }
