• Getting error "Activex Component cannot create Object" while using .NET dll in VB 6 Code

  HI, I am deploying a VB6 application on client machine. The Application need to access code from a C#.NET dll. I created a COM object of the .NET dll and used it VB 6 using the side by side versioning (Registration free COM). It is running fine on the development machine but on the client machine it is throwing an error "ActiveX Component cannot create Object" I created two manifest files one for the VB application and the other one for the C# application. I embedded the C# manifest file in the C#.NET dll through visual studio 2008. Am I missing some step. Please help me out. Thanks in advance.

• C++ open() fails for no apparant reason

  The following code: char filename[64]; ifstream input; cout << "Please enter the filename: " << endl; cin >> filename; input.open(filename); if (!input.is_open()) { cout << "Opening file " << filename << " failed." << endl; exit(1); } fails, it enters the if() and exits. • Is MSDN referencing a system.thread, a worker thread, an io thread or all three?

  Please see the warning below taken from the StreamWriter class specification (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.io.streamwriter.aspx): "Any public static (Shared in Visual Basic) members of this type are thread safe. Any instance members are not guaranteed to be thread safe." I understand that a W3WC process contains two thread pools i.e. worker threads and I/O threads. A worker thread could contain many threads of its own (if the application creates its own System.Thread instances). Does the warning only relate to System.Threads or does it relate to worker threads and I/O threads as well I.e. as the instance variables of the streamwriter class are not thread safe then does this mean that there would be problems if multiple worker threads access it eg if two users on two different web clients attempt to write to the log file at the same time, then could one lock out the other?

  I've run into something odd in a .NET CF 2.0 project for Pocket PC 2003 (Visual Studio 2005). I was dealing with a System.IO.Stream object and found that the IDE wouldn't auto-complete the Dispose() method. I typed it in manually and received: 'System.IO.Stream.Dispose(bool)' is inaccessible due to its protection level The error is referring to the protected Dispose(bool) method. Dispose() is either private or not present. Question 1: How is this possible? Stream implements IDisposable: public abstract class Stream : MarshalByRefObject, IDisposable ... and IDisposable requires a Dispose() method: public interface IDisposable { void Dispose(); } I know the compiler won't let me get away with that in my code. Question 2: Will I cause problems by working around and disposing my streams directly? IDisposable idisp = someStream; idisp.Dispose(); The implicit cast is accepted by the compiler.

• Java: Is it possible to take a GUI Panel and output it into a picture?

  So I have this chart that's a little special. Kind of like an XY plot of points but my boss wanted to look like a bunch of boxes rather than dots connected by lines. And I basically made a chart using gridlayout and a whole bunch of cells that I'll be colouring in black or white depending on the data. Now he sorta wants it to be outputted to a image file. Is there any way to save a Panel into a picture? He wants to display not only the data but also save a visual representation of the data into an image file.

• How to make my iphone app icon update like the weather app icon?

  I have an application that I'm currently building that requires me to display a visual update on the application it self. example: The weather app displays 14 degrees celcius and some clouds as its application icon. When the weather changes there is an update to the way the icon looks without having to open the weather app. The applications icon changes to reflect the update in weather. You can then open the weather app to get more information if need be. In my application I need to have an update system like that which shows the user information without opening the application. If they would like more information they can open the application then. I have no idea how to accomplish this task at the moment. • Basic CSS: having unordered list extend beyond container div?

  Hi. It's been a bit since I've gotten really into CSS work, I'm trying to make a simple layout with a menubar. The idea is to have a container holding everything in the center of the screen and have a menubar (unordered inline list) that runs the full length of the screen but the list items to be contained in the container. See this pic for a visual example ps. I know this isn't true "programming", but this seemed like the most appropriate place to post this question. Let me know if there's a better /r/ for this to go.

• Is it possible to exclude folders from a web application project in vs 2010?

  I had previously asked this question. At the time I was working with VS 2008. To restate the question. I have a web application that generates 1000's of small xml files in a certain directory. I would like to exclude this directory from the web application project in visual studio 2010. With vs 2008 it was not possible. Has anything changed? Besides the general wait for VS to iterate through this directory and add an item in the solution explorer for each file, it also strains my system resources, so I would like to exclude it from the project, but the dir and files need to physically exist on disk, because they are part of the application.   I ran a C++ program in Xcode, and encountered a warning of "Control may reach end of non-void function". Here is the code: Node* search(Node* head, int x) { if(!head) return NULL; else if(x == head->key) return head; else if(x < head->key) search(head->lchild, x); else search(head->rchild, x); } I got the same warning when compiling it in Linux, but got the correct result. But in Xcode, the result was wrong. By the way, I got the correct answer and no warning in Visual Studio.

However, I am just wondering what I have done for closing the sockets is correct. I close the file descriptor. However, if there is a problem with closing it. What is the best way to handle this. Maybe some data is still being sent or received? • How to bring Webserive text into a Winform aplication

  I am working a Winform Application that needs to access a webservice to get some basic information. The webservice exists, and the following is a link that brings text. • Location inheritInChildApplications kill debugger?

  Hi I am wondering is this normal when you add this into your web.config <location path="." inheritInChildApplications="false"> </location> The debugger should stop working. Like when I add this to my site and try to run in debug mode it won't activate any of my debug points nor will it lock up Visual studios 2008. I can have it running and still make edits to my C# code. I take the line away and I get the debug mode back and it locks up VS2008.

  I am trying to send terminal commands programmaticly from an android activity. The program is tying into the terminal to feed it commands, I want to know a way to open a connection the otherway and access the (what is normally visual on a terminal screen) output.

• Can a SQL Server 2008 database support both a REST and SOAP web services within two different endpoints?

  Say you have a SQL Server 2008 database. You build a SOAP web service. You then deploy or publish this using Visual Studio 2010 in one website. Now, using the same database, you build a REST web service, in a different solution. You deploy this on another website. Can you consume the endpoints and/or .svc file of both the SOAP and REST web services, though they reference the same SQL Server 2008 database? I don't see why not, but before I go down this path and spend days I'd like to make sure. Also if there's a performance hit to the database if it is running both SOAP and REST at the same time--again, I don't see why it would matter, but I must make sure. Thanks.

• How do I get a list of all languages that my Windows Forms application has been localized to?

  I have localized localized a Form into two language by setting the Localizable property to True and setting the Language from (Default) to (Dutch(Netherlands)), and I changed the control texts. Visual Studio generated the resource files and compiles them into the application. I need to get a simple list of all the languages that my form has been localized into. Currently it would be just two English and Dutch, but more may come. I need to programatically get a list of "what languages my application is localized into". Do I look into the resource files or use ResourceManager or what? Thanks!

• Creating AVI files in OpenCV

  Hello. I have been trying to create an application using OpenCV and Visual Studio 2008, to capture images from a webcam, apply a filter to them, and then write them to an AVI file. Everything works, except creating the AVI file. The problem is that it works on my computer, but it doesn't work on my colleague's computer. The reason for that (I think) is that he does not have the necessary video encoders for OpenCV to use. The cvCreateVideoWriter function does not return NULL, but I end up with a 0kb file on the disk.

• Is there a Swing JPanel toolbar background that fits all OSs?

  I'm using a JPanel to have a toolbar on my background, but I don't like the look of it. Actually, there's basically no look, no background and the buttons are flat when the mouse is not over them. This is on Windows. How can I have a better look for this? Something that would fit better on Windows? Maybe something like the ToolStrip in Visual Studio? Or maybe something better that would look much better depending on the OS version (Windows, Mac, Linux)? Suggestions?

  Hi All I have just got a new company mobile and would like to begin developing apps for the HTC HD2 Mobile Phone. However, when I downloaded Microsoft Windows Phone Developer Tools, it pretty much said right at the end of installation that "Setup could not install correctly", and I clicked on "more", and it said "Silverlight 4.0 could not install correctly". So, the fact that Windows Phone Dev Tools couldn't install completely was because of this Silverlight 4 that couldn't install! Has anyone had the same problems, if so, how did you resolve this issue (if you did)? And... Is there another way to develop applications for mobile phones running the Windows Operating System other than XNA and Windows Dev Tools? Even better... Could it be done simply using the current Visual Studio Express Edition I already have? Thanks All

  I have a program that works when, a file is opened with it using the right click menu in explorer. But if I select multiple files and then right click and open with my program then it opens multiple instances of my program, instead of just passing the multiple files as arguments to a single instance. The program is written in vb.net but is not a windows form, it is just a module, so I can to tick the Single instance option in the properties in Visual Studio. So how do I open multiple files from explorer context menu in a single instance.

  I'm programming in C, and I have the following problem: I use fopen and try to read from a csv file, that is currently storred in the folder of the exe file of the program. the program works fine in debug mode and release mode, but when I try to run the program in "start without debugging" on visual studio 2008 express edition, the program stops working and windows is showing a message: "*.exe has stopped working. a program caused the program to stop working correctly. windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available". I've tried running the program on several computers, and it's the same. another information I can give you is that if I enter the full path of the file (C:....file.csv) - then is works just fine, without any problem. I know I didn't write any code, but I hope someone will have an idea why this can happend. thanks is advance.
