  • Secure, simple php faq creating/editing scripts?

    I'm looking to build a simple site centered around a simple faq system in php. The faq concept is simple, but I want to have an administrative-access backend for editing and creating the entries, and securing a login seems more complex and time-consuming, so I'm looking for suggestions for code to start me off. Does anyone know of any open source php scripts or snippets that would work for administrative login to some php scripts that could be used as a simple faq system? Or both, the faq php code + web administrative access code?

    I want a div on my page to have the id of header but because the nature of the site requires 3rd party code to be loaded into the page I want the header div to be unaffected by any css other than the css defined explicitly for it via #header { } Possible? I'd rather not use iframes to seperate it or anything like that.

    We are experiencing this issue approximately once a month. It is very hard to pinpoint the cause so any help would be appreciated. This causes the App pool to stop and brings the site down. We have gone through all log files and have concluded nothing. We are using the 2.0.3 version on IIS 6.

  • Why MAMP sets to 600 MySQL file permission?

    I usually put MAMP MySQL /db/db-site-name folder under SVN. When MAMP starts, it gives the drw------- (600) permission to all the files and dir in that folder. I have a problem because one of these folder is .svn one, that have to be drwxr-xr-x (755), otherwise I can't access to SVN working copy with my client. Can anyone help me to set MAMP properly?

  • IIS 7, loads blank screen

    I've just setup an application under the default web site installed by IIS 7. I've tried loading both http://localhost and http://localhost/myappname in both cases, all I am getting is a blank page, no errors. And although directory browsing is enabled, I can't even see a list of the files in that directory. Any ideas why this is? Thanks in advance...

    Hello, We have a series of products with built in web servers each of which has a login page, a customer wants to create a web portal in which they log into once, from there they can simply click on any of the devices (external websites) and it will automatically login to that site and redirect them to the page after the login screen. The portal is using ASP.NET MVC, the external devices are Windows CE based units running embedded web servers. Can find a lot on scraping, but not much on redirection after the event.   • Open/Close database connection in django

    I am using Django and Postgresql as my DBMS. I wish to set a setting that enables to enable/disable database connection. When the connection is set to closed (in settings.py) the site will display a message such as "meintanence mode" or something like that. Django will not show any db connection error message (or mail them to admins). It is appreciated if django do not try to connect to the database at all.

  • Asp.net hosting equivalent of Dreamhost (pricing, features and support)

    Disclaimer: I have browsed http://stackoverflow.com/questions/tagged/asp.net+hosting and didn’t find anything quite similar in value to Dreamhost. One of the biggest impediments IMHO for developing web applications on asp.net is the cost of deployment. I am not talking about building sites like Stackoverflow.com or plentyoffish.com. This is about sites that are bigger than brochureware and smaller than ones that require dedicated servers. Let me give you an example. xmec.org is an asp.net site I maintain for my college alumni. On an average it’s slated to hit around 1000-1100 views per day. At present it’s hosted on godaddy. The service is so damn pathetic; I am using it only because of the lack of options. The site doesn’t scale (no, it’s not the code) and the web control panels are extremely slow. The money I pay doesn’t justify the service or the performance. Every deployment push is a visit to the infuriating web control panel to set the permissions and the root directories. Had I developed it in python, this would have been deployed on Dreamhost.com with $10/year hosting fees (they have offers running all throughout) 50 GB space 5 MySQL Databases Shell / FTP Users POP / SMTP Access Unlimited Domains hosting Unlimited Sub domains hosting Unlimited Domains Forwarded/Mirrored Custom DNS (These are the only ones I could think of. More at the feature page) With a dream host shell, I even have a svn checked-out version of wordpress for my blog. Now, that’s control! To my question: Is there any asp.net (preferably .net 3.5. Dreamhost keeps on updating versions every fortnight) hosting company providing remotely similar feature-sets and pricing like Dreamhost. My requirements are: Less than $15-25/ year Typical WISP minus PHP .net 3.5 SP1 Full Trust mode(I can live with medium trust, if not for the IL emitting libraries) Isolated Application Pool 5 – 10 MySQL db’s Unlimited domain hosting MsSql 2005 or 2008 FTP support At Least 5 GB space SMTP IIS 7 Log files Accessibility Moderately good control panel Scripting, shell support Nominal bandwidth Another case in point: Recently I’ve been contemplating building a tool-website to find duplicates and weird characters in my Google contacts and fix them. With asp.net, the best part is that I can do this with LINQ to XML in less than 100 lines of code. What’s bad is the hosting part. I don’t think I stand to make any money out of this and therefore can’t afford to host it on GoGrid or DiscountAsp.net. Godaddy is not an option either. If I do this in python, I can push to this my existing $10 Dreamhost account with another domain pointed. No extra cost. Svn exported with scripts (capability) to change the connection string! Looking at the problem holistically, I think I represent a large breed of programmers playing it cheap and experimenting different things on a regular basis, one of which will become the next twitter/digg.

  • Benefits of implementing OAuth

    From a webservice provider point of view what is the benefit of asking users to create an account or login using 3rd party web service provider (e.g: Twitter or facebook) to log into your site with? Wouldn't it be easier to ask the user to provide their twitter or facebook login and use that to pull the user's twitter or facebook data? It is safer to use OAuth than giving some one the internet our twitter or facebook login credential. But, I can't figure out the benefit from the web service point of view.

    hi there, i am working on an application that uses the Google Analytics Export API and i am trying to get the "Trend" result that Google shows against each of your site accounts as a percentage ie UP 35.04% or DOWN 16.02% How/where do they get this figure and is it available in the API somewhere. i have tried comparing averages of last month to this month/first week of the period vs last week of the period etc, but i cannot seem to get the same numbers that Google provides. any ideas? thanks in advance Doug

I know pandora.com talks about a panda ravaging it's way through the office, twitter's has the little birds floating around or something, sourceforge had one with some funny robots the other day.     I am working with a large site trying to implement web parts for particular users in a particular subdirectory but I can't get the .ASPXAUTH cookie to be recognized. I've read dozens of tutorials and MS class library pages that tell me how it should work to no avail. I am brand new to Web parts, so I'm sorry if I'm unclear. The idea is that logged in users can travel the site, but then when they go to their dashboard, they are programmatically authenticated using Membership and FormsAuthentication to pull up their Personalization. When I step through the code, I can see the cookie being set, and that it exists on the following page, but Membership.GetUser() and User.Identity are both empty. I know the user exists because I created it programmatically using Membership.CreateUser() and I can see it when I do Membership.GetAllUsers() and it's online when i use Membership.GetUser(username) but the Personalization doesn't work. Right now, I'm just trying to get the proof of concept going. I've tried creating the ticket and cookie myself, and also using SetAuthCookie() (code follows). I really just need a clue as to what to look for. Here's the "login" page...
