• Core Data store corruption

  A handful of customers for my iPhone app are experiencing Core Data store corruption (I assume so, since the error is "Failed to save to data store: Operation could not be completed. (Cocoa error 259.)") Has anyone else experienced this kind of store corruption? I am worried since I aim to soon push an update which performs a schema migration, and I am worried that this will expose even more problems. I had assumed that the Core Data/SQLlite APIs use atomic operations and are immune to corruption except if the underlying filesystem experiences corruption. Is there a way to reduce/prevent corruption, or at least a good way to reproduce (I have been unsuccessful thus far).

I want my program to send a packet to my game server if player have all my patches. I dont need any response from the server, it will handle it, but its another story. • SOLRNET/SOLR Logging: Need to log specific information on whether a document is added or updated.

  Hi guys, I am having a big problem trying to find a logging option for our SOLR integration. Recently I have started using SOLRNET to add documents from the database in batches as previously we were just renewing the entire index every morning. So far this solution is working very well and is exactly what we wanted. However, I am in need of a solution that will log every document being added and can also differentiate between an "add" or an "update". It seems posting to solr handles it in a way where "if the document exists, overwrite it; If not then add" but in the catalina logfile this operations looks identical no matter what the scenario. My question is; Are there any logging solutions out there that can accomplish this, the current default logging options in solr that log to catalina are insufficient. Many thanks for any help.

• Using Spring's KeyHolder with programmatically-generated primary keys

  Hello, I am using Spring's NamedParameterJdbcTemplate to perform an insert into a table. The table uses a NEXTVAL on a sequence to obtain the primary key. I then want this generated ID to be passed back to me. I am using Spring's KeyHolder implementation like this: KeyHolder key = new GeneratedKeyHolder(); jdbcTemplate.update(Constants.INSERT_ORDER_STATEMENT, params, key); However, when I run this statement, I am getting: org.springframework.dao.DataRetrievalFailureException: The generated key is not of a supported numeric type. Unable to cast [oracle.sql.ROWID] to [java.lang.Number] at org.springframework.jdbc.support.GeneratedKeyHolder.getKey(GeneratedKeyHolder.java:73) Any ideas what I am missing?

  I understand one of the big deals about constants is that you don't have to go through and update code where that constant is used all over the place. Thats great, but let's say you don't explicitly declare it as a constant. What benefit(s) exist(s) to take a variable that HAPPENS to actually not be changed and make it a constant, will this save on processing, and/or size of code...etc? Basically I have a program that the compiler is saying that a particular variable is not changed and thus can be declared a constant, I just wanted to know what the benefit to adding the constant qualifier to it would be, if it makes no difference then making that change adds no value and thus no point wasting time (this same scenario occurs in more then one place) going back and "fixing" all these variables. • SQL Server Table locks in long query - Solution: NoLock?

  a report in my application runs a query that needs between 5 - 15 seconds (constrained to count of rows that will be returned). The query has 8 joins to nearly all main-tables of my application (Customers, sales, units etc). A little tool shows me, that in this time, all those 8 tables are locked with a shared table lock. That means, no update operation will be done in this time. A solution from a friend is, to have every join in the query, which is not mandetory to have 100% correct data (dirty read), with a NoLock, so only 1 of this 8 tables will be locked completly. Is that a good solution? For a report in which 99% of data came from one table, unlock the less prio tables?

  I have a project that was developed into a Expression Engine template. I used the Core version of EE to develop this template on my local machine. Now I need to export this template/weblog so it can be loaded onto the production server so the client can begin using EE to update their site. The issue I am running into is how to export the templates plus the weblogs that go along with the template. This is my first time using EE so if you know how to accomplish this please explain it in detail. Thank you in advance.

  I have a client application that creates a temp table, the performs a bulk insert into the temp table, then executes some SQL using the table before deleting it. Pseudo-code: open connection begin transaction CREATE TABLE #Temp ([Id] AS int) bulk insert 500 rows into #Temp UPDATE [OtherTable] SET [Status]=0 WHERE [Id] IN (SELECT [Id] FROM #Temp) AND [Group]=1 DELETE FROM #Temp WHERE [Id] IN (SELECT [Id] FROM [OtherTable] WHERE [Group]=1) INSERT INTO [OtherTable] ([Group], [Id]) SELECT 1 as [Group], [DocIden] FROM #Temp DROP TABLE #Temp COMMIT TRANSACTION CLOSE CONNECTION This is failing with an error on the DROP statement: Cannot drop the table '#Temp', because it does not exist or you do not have permission. I can't imagine how this failure could occur without something else going on first, but I don't see any other failures occurring before this. Is there anything that I'm missing that could be causing this to happen?

• Creating a dynamic (video) Overlay on Google Maps on Android 2.1

  I'm trying to create a map overlay for displaying a video stream (MJPEG) on top of a Mapview. Currently I've a standalone activity that creates a data thread for fetching MJPEG video frames. I'm using a handler to send a frame (as a Bitmap) from the data thread to the main activity which then updates the UI. I'm not sure how I can implement "refresh" for updating my "overlayed" video stream. EDIT: What I mean by "refresh" is - how can I update the video portion (not the mapview) of my UI whenever I get a new video frame. I plan to paint the video frame (bitmap) in the "draw method" of my implementation of the Overlay subclass. But the "draw" method is not invoked by me directly. Thanks.

• Running Awk command on a cluster

  How do you execute a Unix shell command (awk script, a pipe etc) on a cluster in parallel (step 1) and collect the results back to a central node (step 2) Hadoop seems to be a huge overkill with its 600k LOC and its performance is terrible (takes minutes just to initialize the job) i don't need shared memory, or - something like MPI/openMP as i dont need to synchronize or share anything, don't need a distributed VM or anything as complex Google's SawZall seems to work only with Google proprietary MapReduce API some distributed shell packages i found failed to compile, but there must be a simple way to run a data-centric batch job on a cluster, something as close as possible to native OS, may be using unix RPC calls i liked rsync simplicity but it seem to update remote notes sequentially, and you cant use it for executing scripts as afar as i know switching to Plan 9 or some other network oriented OS looks like another overkill i'm looking for a simple, distributed way to run awk scripts or similar - as close as possible to data with a minimal initialization overhead, in a nothing-shared, nothing-synchronized fashion Thanks Alex

• contentoffset during flick gesture

  Hi all, Does anyone else notice that the contentOffset of UIScrollView doesnt update during a flick gesture? It only updates after the flick gesture has totally completed, when the flick gesture is finished. After the finger has left the screen, the scrollview keeps moving, in the decelerating phase. but this isnt reflected in the contentOffset of the UIScrollView. Is there a way to track where the contentOffset is during the decelerating part of the flick gesture? I have an OpenGL layer on top, and i want it to move with the scrollView. Can't seem to get the right info out of the scrollview though... Thoughts? thanks, michael

I have this in my Animal.cs clas private string _animalName; public string AnimalName { get { return _animalName; } set { if(_animalName!= value) { _animalName= value; this.NotifyPropertyChanged("AnimalName"); } } } I could also write: public string AnimalName {get;set;} There is no difference in binding and validation. Everythings works as before when I exchange the code. Is this due to the fact that I only create new animals but I do not allow to update the animals name in my application ? So I need to call the propertyChanged("AnimalName"); only when I want to change its property value? I am a c# beginner ;)

  I have been trying to integrate GSL (Gnu Scientific Library) into an iPhone project using Xcode. The challenge is GSL has all the modules in different folders, yet when their header files are reference, they often reference instead of or . At least with I could use Xcode's recursive header file search to find it. But with , basically file not found. Does anyone have an easy way to address the hierarchical GSL structure to compile into Xcode? I can do it the tedious way of fixing all the #INCLUDE lines but hoping there is a better alternative. This way, I can more easily update GSL when changes are made by the community. NOTE: I found Xcode needs to find the right header file locations (make sure to adjust your TARGET Build settings, not just your Project Build settings).

I can see there is a streamerapi.finance.yahoo.com that actually makes fiddler throw an error. Anyone knows anything else about this live update?   Hi All, I am trying to set up a Approval workflow when item created and item updated event on a list and then update the approval status as workflow complete. Now when I create a new Item the workflow kicks off as expected. When I edit the same item and approve the item new workflow get started as the item get edit. It seems to be workflow falls in loop if I se an Approval workflow on new item created and Item Edit events. I Google for it and I found that Microsoft has come up with hotfix to overcome this issue. I have installed it on my machine but still the problem persist. Is there are any prerequisites needed for this ? or any other service pack or specific version of service pack needs be installed on machine to make this hotfix running.   As EF 4.0 released, more support to SQL server Stored procedure. Complex Type can be generated automatically for result dataset of SP. But complex type not support by Ria Service. When I try to use ria service combined with EF 4.0, I want to get dataset by SP. This result is not mapped to any entity/table. Some sulutions suggested by community are: 1. Create view to map sp result. (but for EF, if there is no ID or primary, can't be map to any entity) 2. Create Entity to map sp result.(for this, you even need to map SP for CRUD even though I don't need CUD on this sp result) Also above solution can't be automated. As Database objects maybe changed with the time, auto update edm will lost above solution. So what's the solution? I want to put data operation back to DB as possible, so that many changes can be done in DB and no need to rebuild .net assemblies(this cause redeploy).

• ASP.NET State Error

  I am have an asp.net page, where a list of products is shown in a drop down. When a user selects an item, corresponding price, available quantity etc. are shown in the corresponding text boxes. I have used ajax update panel to retrieve these information. This approach seems to work nicely. But sometimes when a product is selected, it takes too long for the price, quantities to change, and sometimes they don't even change. Then I used firebug to see what happened to the ajax request, and I found out that the response that is coming from the server is something like this - 70|error|500|The state information is invalid for this page and might be corrupted.| I have absolutely no idea what is wrong here.............

• C# Process flow - Datastream, XML and datagrid

  Im looking for some advice/suggestions on how I should setup the work flow of a small application Im building. When the application is launched the datagrid will be populated via the XML file. Once running the application will receive a datastream that I hope to update the file and datagrid. So Im curious what you would suggest on how I setup the workflow (ie, split the data from the data stream and simultaneously populate the file and grid or would you suggest populating the XML file first and setting up a timer to have the grid read the file?) Im really looking for optimal performance.

  I've got the code below, and I'm trying to set the from field to allow unicode. Currently in my email client I get "??". The subject line and any content shows the unicode correctly. And looking at the MSDN the property should be "urn:schemas:httpmail:from". Anyone solved this issue?
