Lets say I issue :shell command from withing VI. Then I navigate to a directory and decide that I need to edit foo.txt file which I see there. Is there a way to return back to vi from the shell and have foo.txt opened for editing
I have a PDF copy of a file for creating a report. Based on this form, we will generate a report.
Is there any way that I can fill out the needed fields on the PDF form using python? How?
I can't access the screenr.com java applet on my mac.
Poking around the java preferences, I saw an odd entry with a red circle (I assume that means to deny access?) for it in the security section. When I highlight that entry and hit the remove button, I get an error, as seen in this screenshot:

Is there somewhere I can go on the filesystem to clear out all of these? Other solution?
I believe that not all R users know elisp. It would be nice if ESS users could share their code in their .emacs file here. Well commented code would be particularly useful.
I have SSL enabled for subdomain.mydomain.com so I can access files via https://subdomain.mydomain.com. Now please tell me if I'm right.. if I have file somwhere in subdomain.mydomain.com called index.php I can securely access it via:
https://subdomain.mydomain.com/someFolder/index.php
but I can also access it via
http://subdomain.mydomain.com/someFolder/index.php
This time communication won't be encrypted though. So now it comes down to links only if I access files in subdomain.mydomain.com securely or not?
I will have another related question (and many more probably), but will post it as separate topic to keep things clean :)

I have 4 reasonably complex r scripts that are used to manipulate csv and xml files. These were created by another department where they work exclusively in r.
My understanding is that while r is very fast when dealing with data, it's not really optimised for file manipulation. Can I expect to get significant speed increases by converting these scripts to python? Or is this something of a waste of time?
I have tried both the .net FileUpload control and the ajax Asyncfileuploadcontrol to upload a file less than 500kb.
It seems that when I tried to go through my wireless router (att.bellsouth) that the uploads always fail, however when I plug my droid into my laptop and use my pda connection it works perfectly fine.
I'm wondering if the network connection from my house to my server could be causing this issue, and if anyone had any solutions to this problem. Tomorrow I'm going to try and upload from other networks and pray it works.

In an ASP.NET environment, what's the best way to play a mp3 file? Do I need to use a flash plugin (some users may not have flash). Also, this needs to work on a IPhone or an IPod.
Hi,
I am wondering, if I create a new HttpRequest, and put the content of a simple file inside this request, would I be able to read the content on the server side by aspx page? in other words would that be equivalent to upload control?
Thanks!

Has anyone experienced this before ?
VS does not give me any error messages. It simply shuts down very quickly.
Given file names like these:
/the/path/foo.txt
bar.txt
I hope to get
foo
bar
Why this doesn't work?
#!/bin/bash
fullfile=$1
fname=$(basename $fullfile)
fbname=${filename%.*}
echo $fbname
What's the right way to do it?
I have a BASE_DIR setting in my settings.py file:
BASE_DIR = os.path.dirname(os.path.abspath(__file__))
I need to use this variable in my logging.ini file to setup my file handler paths.
The initialization of logging happens in the same file, the settings.py file, below my BASE_DIR variable:
LOG_INIT_DONE=False
if not LOG_INIT_DONE:
logging.config.fileConfig(LOGGING_INI)
LOG_INIT_DONE=True
Thanks,
Pete
