  • How do I call functions inside c++ dll from lua?

    - by Brian T Hannan
I have a dll written in C++ that is legacy code and cannot modify the source code. I want to be able to call some of the functions inside of the dll from lua. For example, I'd like to do something like this: -- My Lua File include(myCppDll.dll) function callCppFunctionFromDll() local result = myCppFunctionFromDll(arg1, arg2) --Do something with result here end Is something like this possible?

  • Choose 'better' or more familiar technologies for a new project?

    - by John
I am looking to start work on a brand-new project, something I've been thinking about for a while as my first independent sellable project. It's broadly speaking a web-based service application, and my first choice, server-language is quite easy... I know Java pretty well from working on Java web-apps in the past. However my experience doing web-apps involved JSP, Servlets and JSTL... I know the ideas behind newer technologies like Hibernate/Spring but have never used them. So we wrote our own DAOs, handled AJAX by writing special mini-JSP pages that generated XML/JSON pages, etc. I'm not hugely into the idea that Spring/Hibernate are the 'only' or 'right' way to do any Java web-project, but they are widely used. On the other hand, not only would trying to learn these increase initial development time, but I'd be using my learning attempts to build a production system. I remember one of Joel's early articles said (I'll paraphrase since I can't find it) "regardless what's cool, always use the technologies that the lead developer (or dev team?) knows best" I wondered what people thought about that? ps: should this be CW?

  • Same object in different nib files?

    - by Michael
View1 object, which is UIViewController subclass is the same object as File's Owner of View1 nib. So I should manually set the class in both places, one in MainWindow and another in View1 nib files? This sound artificial to me... Either I'm doing something wrong or there has to be better way.

  • How can I put an image in my form?

    - by Santeron
Hey guys, I'm having a problem. I want to put an image inside a form in Java and I don't know if I'm using a proper technique (found it somewhere in a web page). private void iconSelect() { String iconString = ""; if (typeCombobox.getSelectedIndex() == 0) { iconString = "LP_"; } else if (typeCombobox.getSelectedIndex() == 1) { iconString = "HP_"; } else if (typeCombobox.getSelectedIndex() == 2) { iconString = "BP_"; } else if (typeCombobox.getSelectedIndex() == 3) { iconString = "BS_"; } if (RB_Gain_Clean.isSelected()) { iconString = iconString + "Clean"; } else if (RB_Gain_dB.isSelected()) { iconString = iconString + "dB"; } ImageIcon icon = new ImageIcon("images/" + iconString + ".jpg"); Image img = icon.getImage(); if (iconGraphLabel.getWidth() > 0 && iconGraphLabel.getHeight() > 0) { img = img.getScaledInstance(iconGraphLabel.getWidth(), iconGraphLabel.getHeight(), java.awt.Image.SCALE_SMOOTH); } icon = new ImageIcon(img); iconGraphLabel.setIcon(icon); } So it actually shows the image and it is resizing but when I resize my form and then make it smaller again, the label doesn't seem to follow the resizing so it stays bigger than the window. Also, since I'm not very familiar with java's graphics, can anyone tell me how can I control a window resizing event so I redraw the picture? Right now the method is triggered by the combobox and the radiobuttons shown in the code. Thanks in advance!

  • Web UI prototyping tools

    - by AlexKelos
Can anyone recomend me a simple web UI prototyping tool, so I could quicky prototype the look of a my web site. I have tried to use MS Visio for this, but found it very "user un-friendly". What I really need is to be able quicky sketch the layout of the page, put some links, images and buttons on in, play a little bit with a colors (CSS), and it would be great it this tool could support navigation between the pages - but it is not essential. I would rather consider a low-cost or an open-source solution, since I am not a web designer and not going to use that tool on a daily basis.

  • Can anybody explain the working of following code...?

    - by Siddhi
Can anybody explain the working of following code...? interface myInterface{} public class Main { public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println(new myInterface(){public String toString(){return "myInterfacetoString";}}); System.out.println(new myInterface(){public String myFunction(){return "myInterfacemyFunction";}}); } } Output is... myInterfacetoString primitivedemo.Main$2@9304b1 All answers saying that myInterface in println() statement is anonymous class. But as I already declared it as an interface, why does it allow me to create anonymous class of same name....? again...if these are anonymous classes then class main should allow me to give any name to these anonymous classes..But if try to do so..I'm getting compilation error

  • Correct way to textually report the remaining time on a long running process?

    - by Ryan
So you have a long running process, perhaps with a progress bar, and you want a text estimate of the remaining time, eg: "5 minutes remaining" "30 seconds remaining" etc. If you don't actually want to report clock time (due to accuracy or resolution or update-rate issues) but want to stick to the text summary, what is the correct paradigm? Is "one minute" left displayed from 0 to 60 seconds? or from 1:00 to 1:59? Say there's 1:35 Left - is that "2 minutes remaining" or "1 minute remaining"? Do you just pare it down to "A few minutes left" when you're less than 3 minutes? What is the preferred (least user-frustrating) method?

  • managing IB objects without iboutlets

    - by palominoz
i have got 24 buttons in my project.I need to manage them but I don't want to get my MainViewController polluted by 24 declarations of pointers, properties & synthesizes. i was thinking about using buttonPushed functions and do it like: -(IBAction)buttonPushed:(id)sender{ UIbutton *button=sender; [buttons addObjectAtIndex:[sender tag]]; } my question is:is sender a pointer to the IBObject?

  • Can a tab bar controller added to a uitableview?

    - by Sheehan Alam
I have a View that contains a UITableView and a UITabBarController. I have set my IBOutlets, but the UITabbarController does not appear. Do I need to do anything else to allow it to appear? Note: I don't want the tab-bar to be displayed throughout the entire application. Only on one specific view.

  • How to use AOP to intercept a method call in super on an argument?

    - by hleinone
I'm extending a class and overriding a method. All I want to do is to call super, but with a modified argument that gets intercepted upon one of its methods is called. An example makes it more clear: // Foo is an interface and also this method is part of an interface @Override public void foo(Foo foo) { // I want to intercept the call to foo.bar() in super super.foo(foo); } I'd rather use a tool that doesn't require a compiler of its own. What would be the optimal one?

  • Iphone SDK- How to insert a banner in my app

    - by Dave
I have a tableview that my app shows when it loads, I would like to somehow put a banner at the bottom that if connceted to the internet will check my server for any new image files and if there are it will replace the current one and if not it will just leave it. That way I can constantly display messages to my users - sort of like in Doodle Jump. How could I achieve this? Thanks

  • What is the best way for the application to refer to the user?

    - by user292450
Forgive my noobishness, first time poster on stackoverflow! I can have the application read: "view your messages" "view my messages" "edit your profile" "edit my profile" etc. and others like that. Is one of these more correct then the other? I suppose that I could use neither and just leave it without any pronoun, but I would rather not. The person grading is a real stickler for "grammar" in code. Any input would be appreciated!

  • C# Different class objects in one list

    - by jeah_wicer
I have looked around some now to find a solution to this problem. I found several ways that could solve it but to be honest I didn't realize which of the ways that would be considered the "right" C# or OOP way of solving it. My goal is not only to solve the problems but also to develop a good set of code standards and I'm fairly sure there's a standard way to handle this problem. Let's say I have 2 types of printer hardwares with their respective classes and ways of communicating: PrinterType1, PrinterType2. I would also like to be able to later on add another type if neccessary. One step up in abstraction those have much in common. It should be possible to send a string to each one of them as an example. They both have variables in common and variables unique to each class. (One for instance communicates via COM-port and has such an object, while the other one communicates via TCP and has such an object). I would however like to just implement a List of all those printers and be able to go through the list and perform things as "Send(string message)" on all Printers regardless of type. I would also like to access variables like "PrinterList[0].Name" that are the same for both objects, however I would also at some places like to access data that is specific to the object itself (For instance in the settings window of the application where the COM-port name is set for one object and the IP/port number for another). So, in short something like: In common: Name Send() Specific to PrinterType1: Port Specific to PrinterType2: IP And I wish to, for instance, do Send() on all objects regardless of type and the number of objects present. I've read about polymorphism, Generics, interfaces and such, but I would like to know how this, in my eyes basic, problem typically would be dealt with in C# (and/or OOP in general). I actually did try to make a base class, but it didn't quite seem right to me. For instance I have no use of a "string Send(string Message)" function in the base class itself. So why would I define one there that needs to be overridden in the derived classes when I would never use the function in the base class ever in the first place? I'm really thankful for any answers. People around here seem very knowledgeable and this place has provided me with many solutions earlier. Now I finally have an account to answer and vote with too. EDIT: To additionally explain, I would also like to be able to access the objects of the actual printertype. For instance the Port variable in PrinterType1 which is a SerialPort object. I would like to access it like: PrinterList[0].Port.Open() and have access to the full range of functionality of the underlaying port. At the same time I would like to call generic functions that work in the same way for the different objects (but with different implementations): foreach (printer in Printers) printer.Send(message)

  • Calling R Script from within C-Code

    - by tiny81
Hi, Is there a way to call an R-Script within C-Code? I did find the R Api for C (chaper 6. of the 'Writing R Extensions' manual), but as far as I understood this does "only" allow to call the C-Implementation of R. Of cause I could call the R-Script via shell, but that's no solution for me, since this does not allow proper passing of data (at least no if I don't what to write the data into a Csv-File or something like this). Is there a easy way of using the R to C parser beforehand? Any hints you can give me? regards, Tiny

  • Which class will be instanciated

    - by Michael
Say I have 2 subclasses from UIViewController, class A and class B. In Main nib file an object is representing class A and it is set to load file from Secondary nib file. The owner of Secondary nib is of class B. The question is - from which class an object in Main nib file will be instanciated once the nib files unarchived in the memory? The reason this question arised is that I have to take care myself if such reference to external NIB file present, to ensure that the first nib's object and second nib's owner is same. Please correct me if my statement is wrong.

  • Image impending other elements in iphone app view!

    - by wayne
Hi. If someone could help I have a view in my iphone app with an image, a label and a button. I have positioned the image at the back however when I run the simulator the image is all that is showing. I have done exactly the same thing with other views and they work fine but can't get this one to work. I have checked that the image is "send to back" and other elements are at the front. Still no good. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

  • Classes in same package

    - by nicholas_r
I love the Intellij IDEA but i have been stacked on one little problem with Java imports. So for example there is a package with name "example" and two different classes in it: A.java and B.java. And i wanna get access to class "A" from class "B" without imports. Like this: class A: package example; public class A{ ... some stuff here ...} class B: package example; public class B{ public static void main(String[] args){ A myVar = 1234; } } This code may not work, but it's doesn't matter. Trouble just with IDE and with its mechanism of importing classes. So, problem is that i can't see A class from B. Idea says 'Cant resolve symbol' but i actually know that class A exists in package. Next strange is that complier works fine and there are no exceptions. Just IDEA can't see the class in the same package. Does anybody has any ideas?
