• How do you get XML::Pastor to set xsi:type for programmatically generated elements?

  I'm learning how to use Perl as an automation test framework tool for a Java web service and running into trouble generating xml requests from the Pastor generated modules. The problem is that when including a type that extends from the required type for an element, the xsi:type is not included in the generated xml string. • Help on understanding multiple columns on an index?

  Assume I have a table called "table" and I have 3 columns, a, b, and c. What does it mean to have a non-clustered index on columns a,b? Is a nonclustered index on columns a,b the same as a nonclustered index on columns b,a? (Note the order). Also, Is a nonclustered index on column a the same as a nonclustered index on a,c? I was looking at the website sqlserver performance and they had these dmv scripts where it would tell you if you had overlapping indexes and I believe it was saying that having an index on a is the same as a,b, so it is redundant. Is this true about indexes? One last question is why is the clustered index put on the primary key. Most of the time the primary key is not queried against, so shouldn't the clustered index be on the most queried column. I am probably missing something here like having it on the primary key speeds up joins? Great explanations. Should I turn this into a wiki and change the title index explanation?

• Using JavaScript eval to parse JSON

  Question: I'm using eval to parse a JSON return value from one of my WebMethods. I prefer not to add jquery-json because the transfer volume is already quite large. So I parse the JSON return value with eval. Now rumors go that this is insecure. Why ? Nobody can modify the JSOn return value unless they hack my server, in which case I would have a much larger problem anyway. And if they do it locally, JavaScript only executes in their browser. So I fail to see where the problem is. • LINQ: How to Use RemoveAll without using For loop with Array

  I currently have a log object I'd like to remove objects from, based on a LINQ query. I would like to remove all records in the log if the sum of the versions within a program are greater than 60. Currently I'm pretty confident that this'll work, but it seems kludgy: for (int index = 0; index < 4; index++) { Log.RemoveAll(log => (log.Program[index].Version[0].Value + log.Program[index].Version[1].Value + log.Program[index].Version[2].Value ) > 60); } The Program is an array of 4 values and version has an array of 3 values. Is there a more simple way to do this RemoveAll in LINQ without using the for loop? Thanks for any help in advance!

  I have two MySQL tables, states and trans: states (200,000 entries) looks like: id (INT) - also the primary key energy (DOUBLE) [other stuff] trans (14,000,000 entries) looks like: i (INT) - a foreign key referencing states.id j (INT) - a foreign key referencing states.id A (DOUBLE) I'd like to search for all entries in trans with trans.A 30. (say), and then return the energy entries from the (unique) states referenced by each matching entry. So I do it with two intermediate tables: CREATE TABLE ij SELECT i,j FROM trans WHERE A30.; CREATE TABLE temp SELECT DISTINCT i FROM ij UNION SELECT DISTINCT j FROM ij; SELECT energy from states,temp WHERE id=temp.i; This seems to work, but is there any way to do it without the intermediate tables? When I tried to create the temp table with a single command straight from trans: CREATE TABLE temp SELECT DISTINCT i FROM trans WHERE A30. UNION SELECT DISTINCT j FROM trans WHERE A30.; it took a longer (presumably because it had to search the large trans table twice.   I'm trying to get up to speed on how to get some code that uses OpenSSL for cryptography, to play nice with another program that I'm writing in C#, using the Microsoft cryptography providers available in .NET. More to the point, I'm trying to have the C# program verify an RSA message signature generated by the OpenSSL code. The code that generates the signature looks something like this: // Code in C, using the OpenSSL RSA implementation char msgToSign[] = "Hello World"; // the message to be signed char signature[RSA_size(rsa)]; // buffer that will hold signature int slen = 0; // will contain signature size // rsa is an OpenSSL RSA context, that's loaded with the public/private key pair memset(signature, 0, sizeof(signature)); RSA_sign(NID_sha1 , (unsigned char*)msgToSign , strlen(msgToSign) , signature , &slen , rsa); // now signature contains the message signature // and can be verified using the RSA_verify counterpart // .. I would like to verify the signature in C# In C#, I would do the following: import the other side's public key into an RSACryptoServiceProvider object receive the message and it's signature try to verify the signature I've got the first two parts working (I've verified that the public key is loading properly because I managed to send an RSA encrypted text from the C# code to the OpenSSL code in C and successfully have it decrypted) In order to verify the signature in C#, I've tried using the: VerifySignature method of the RSACryptoServiceProvider but that didn't work. And digging around the internet I was only able to find some vague information pointing out that .NET uses a different method for generating the signature than OpenSSL does. So, does anybody know how to accomplish this?

Value '123' is already present." I know I entered a duplicated value but the question is HOW can I determine which the columnName that cause the error and re-write the error message entirely in different language I want to get the columnName and the wrong value thanks in advance

  I'm trying to get latest inserted id from a table using this code: $id = $tbl->fetchAll (array('public=1'), 'id desc'); but it's always returning "1" any ideas? update: I've just discovered toArray();, which retrieves all the data from fetchAll. The problem is, I only need the ID. My current code looks like this: $rowsetArray = $id->toArray(); $rowCount = 1; foreach ($rowsetArray as $rowArray) { foreach ($rowArray as $column => $value) { if ($column="id") {$myid[$brr] = $value;} //echo"\n$myid[$brr]"; } ++$rowCount; ++$brr; } Obviously, I've got the if ($column="id") {$myid[$brr] = $value;} thing wrong. • Boolean issues in PHP

  I have a question regarding bools in php. I have a stored mysql proc that is returning a boolean. When this value is grabbed on the php side it displays the value as being a 0 or 1. This all seems fine to me and I have read in the php manual that php will interpret a 0 or 1 as false or true at compile time but this does not seem to be the case to me. I have gone a step further and casted my returned value with (bool) but this still does not seem to work. My if statements are not properly firing because of this. Does anyone know what is going on?   I want to have an extension method for XElement/XAttribute that allows me to apply a "ValueOrDefault" logic - perhaps with various slightly different implementations: ValueOrNull, ValueOrDefault, NumericValueOrDefault (which validates if the value is numeric), but I want to constrain these methods so that they can only work with ValueTypes or String (i.e. it does not really make sense to use any other reference types. Is it possible to do this with one implementation of each method, or will I have to have one where the constraint is "Structure" and one where the constraint is "String" - if I combine Structure and String in the generic constraint, I get the error : 'Structure' constraint and a specific class type constraint cannot be combined. • Turning a JSON list into a POJO

  I'm having trouble getting this bit of JSON into a POJO. I'm using Jackson configured like this: protected ThreadLocal<ObjectMapper> jparser = new ThreadLocal<ObjectMapper>(); public void receive(Object object) { try { if (object instanceof String && ((String)object).length() != 0) { ObjectDefinition t = null ; if (parserChoice==0) { if (jparser.get()==null) { jparser.set(new ObjectMapper()); } t = jparser.get().readValue((String)object, ObjectDefinition.class); } Object key = t.getKey(); if (key == null) return; transaction.put(key,t); } } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } Here's the JSON that needs to be turned into a POJO: { "id":"exampleID1", "entities":{ "tags":[ { "text":"textexample1", "indices":[ 2, 14 ] }, { "text":"textexample2", "indices":[ 31, 36 ] }, { "text":"textexample3", "indices":[ 37, 43 ] } ] } And lastly, here's what I currently have for the java class: protected Entities entities; @JsonIgnoreProperties(ignoreUnknown = true) protected class Entities { public Entities() {} protected Tags tags; @JsonIgnoreProperties(ignoreUnknown = true) protected class Tags { public Tags() {} protected String text; public String getText() { return text; } public void setText(String text) { this.text = text; } }; public Tags getTags() { return tags; } public void setTags(Tags tags) { this.tags = tags; } }; //Getters & Setters ... I've been able to translate the more simple objects into a POJO, but the list has me stumped. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

• Implementing IComparer<T> For IComparer<DictionaryEntry>

  I am using the ObservableSortedDictionary from Dr. WPF. The constructor looks like this: public ObservableSortedDictionary(IComparer<DictionaryEntry> comparer) I am really struggling to create an implementation that satisfies the constructor and works. My current code (that won't compile) is: public class TimeCreatedComparer<T> : IComparer<T> { public int Compare(T x, T y) { var myclass1 = (IMyClass)((DictionaryEntry)x).Value; var myclass2 = (IMyClass)((DictionaryEntry)y).Value; return myclass1.TimeCreated.CompareTo(myclass2.TimeCreated); } } It says I can't cast from T to DictionaryEntry. If I cast directly to IMyClass, it compiles, but I get a runtime error saying I can't cast from DictionaryEntry to IMyClass. At runtime, x and y are instances of DictionaryEntry, which each have the correct IMyClass as their Value.

• How do I make a simple image-based button with visual states in Silverlight 3?

  At my previous company, we created our RIAs using Flex with graphical assets created in Flash. In Flash, you could simply lay out your graphics for different states, i.e. rollover, disabled. Now, I'm working on a Silverlight 3 project. I've been given a bunch of images that need to serve as the graphics for buttons that have a rollover, pressed, and normal state. I cannot figure out how to simply create buttons with different images for different visual states in Visual Studio 2008 or Expression Blend 3. Here's where I am currently. My button is defined like this in the XAML: <Button Style="{StaticResource MyButton}"/> The MyButton style appears as follows: <Style x:Key="MyButton" TargetType="Button"> <Setter Property="Template"> <Setter.Value> <ControlTemplate TargetType="Button"> <Image Source="/Assets/Graphics/mybtn_up.png" Width="54" Height="24"> <VisualStateManager.VisualStateGroups> <VisualStateGroup x:Name="FocusStates"> <VisualState x:Name="Focused"/> <VisualState x:Name="Unfocused"/> </VisualStateGroup> <VisualStateGroup x:Name="CommonStates"> <VisualState x:Name="Normal"/> <VisualState x:Name="MouseOver"/> <VisualState x:Name="Pressed"/> <VisualState x:Name="Disabled"/> </VisualStateGroup> </VisualStateManager.VisualStateGroups> </Image> </ControlTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </Style> I cannot figure out how to assign a different template to different states, nor how to change the image's source based on which state I'm in. How do I do this? Also, if you know of any good documentation that describes how styles work in Silverlight, that would be great. All of the search results I can come up with are frustratingly unhelpful. Is there a more standard way of accomplishing this?

• Why the OnWorkflowItemChanged is different between List and document library?

  I am doing a workflow for a document library. I put a OnWorkflowItemChanged, and I want to get the value of the column which is changed. I use the workflowProperties.Item["name"] and use the afterProperties. But when I use the workflowProperties.Item["column name"], I still got the original value. When I use the afterProperties, it's NULL. Then I make another workflow that is the same as above for a list. I can use the workflowProperties.Item["column name"] to get the new value in OnWorkflowItemChanged. Has anyone come across this problem before? Can you give me some help?

Because Validation.Errors may be an empty collection and in ordinary C# code this code may throw an exception. If this data-binding returns null for valid input - the null value is then casted to empty string (in a text control for example)? The index 0 corresponds to the first error message. How can I return more error messages from Validate method? Thank you for responses!

• DataBinding and ErrorProvider - How to provide custom error messages?

  We use BusinessObjects, implementing IDataErrorInfo and IEditableObject. BindingLists with those Objects are added to BindingSources, those are used to bind UserControls and DataGrids on the forms (WinForms). The BindingSource is additionally set as DataSource to the ErrorProvider of the form. We do use currently TextBoxes for Properties of Type int and short. They are validated inside the BusinessObjects with custom validation, like min/max values, etc. That works fine, since error message form our custom validations show up nicely next to the TextBox. However, if the input is greater than the value of an int (e.g. "9999999999") the BindingSource doesn't even try to enter that Value into the BusinesObject but instead gives the errormessage to the errorprovider like "The value for Int32 was too big.". We do not want to bother our users with "Int32" but want a custom errormessage for that. It is nice, that the BindingSource does provide this feature, but is it possible to provide custom error messages for this?

  I have created button 2 below: <input id="Button1" type="button" value="Stop" onclick="alert('hello world');"/> <input id="Button2" type="button" value="button" OnClik="alert('hello world');"/> using a litteral tag on page load like this: protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { Literal1.Text = "<input id=\"Button2\" type=\"button\" value=\"button\" OnClik=\"alert('hello world');\"/>"; } Incredibly when testing in browser, click on button 1 works, not click on button 2 whereas the codes are the same ! Am I missing something ?

• Cancel page forward/back hotkeys in Firefox with Greasemonkey

  First the background: In Firefox 3.6.3 on Mac OS X 10.5.8 when entering text into a standard the hotkey combination of Command+LeftArrow and Command+RightArrow jump the cursor to the start/end of the current line, respectively. However, when using CKEditor, FCKEditor and YUI Editor, Firefox does not seem to completely recognize that it's a text area. Instead, it drops back to the default function for those hotkeys which is to move back/forward in the browser history. After this occurs, the text in the editor is also cleared when you return to the page making it very easy to loose whatever is being worked on. I'm attempting to write a greasemonkey script that I can use to capture the events and prevent the page forward/back jumps from being executed. So far, I've been able to see the events with the following used as a .user.js script in GreaseMonkey: document.addEventListener('keypress', function (evt) { // grab the meta key var isCmd = evt.metaKey; // check to see if it is pressed if(isCmd) { // if so, grab the key code; var kCode = evt.keyCode; if(kCode == 37 || kCode == 39) { alert(kCode); } } }, false ); When installed/enabled, pressing command+left|right arrow key pops an alert with the respective code, but as soon as the dialog box is closed, the browser executes the page forward/back move. I tried setting a new code with evt.keyCode = 0, but that didn't work. So, the question is, can this Greasemonkey script be updated so that it prevents the back/forward page moves? (NOTE: I'm open to other solutions as well. Doesn't have to be Greasemonkey, that's just the direction I've tried. The real goal is to be able to disable the forward/back hotkey functionality.)
