I am in for two things: Learn Ruby Make my website on ROR I have Agile Web Development with Rails, 2nd Edition. So, here are my questions: How is the Agile Web Development with Rails book to start with, where I don't know anything about Ruby and proficient with Java. What is the difference between 2nd and 3rd edition? People say the changes are irrelevant for a starter, how far is that statement correct? Should I start with Rails 2.3.4 or Rails 3 (around the corner)?

However, I still would lik my picture from Google+ to show up in search results like this, as it adds a personal touch to my blog: How do I make the picture show up on Google searches with a .com name and a Wordpress blog? I have no idea how that showed up in Google searches, as I did nothing to get the picture to show up (as far as I know).

    My ASP.NET application runs in IIS on my web server and uses Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Beta 2. (Its Application Pool is set to .NET Framework version .NET Framework v4.0.21006.) It gives this new error: A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected from the client... This is due to a breaking change in .NET 4. To revert to the behavior of the ASP.NET 2.0 request validation feature, I added the following setting in the Web.config file: <httpRuntime requestValidationMode="2.0" /> Now Visual Studio 2008 throws a compile-time error: The 'requestValidationMode' attribute is not declared. And I can no longer debug on my development machine using the ASP.NET Development Server that comes with Visual Studio. I need Visual Studio and its ASP.NET Development Server to recognize the new .NET Framework 4 requestValidationMode attribute. How can I debug my application in .NET 4? Must I switch from Visual Studio 2008 to Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2?

I've tried using VIM, Emacs and TextMate but I'm missing every feature in the Eclipse Android plugin: Auto generate R class Check for errors & warnings on code Auto completion Deploy to device or emulator Integrate with DDMS The list goes to infinity ... I know Eclipse is the best for what I want to do, but if I want to use any editor, what do you recommend to achieve a not so frustrating Android development experience?

    How can I encourage my coworkers to track the time they spend resolving issues and implementing features? We have software to do this, but they just don't enter the numbers. I want the team to get better at providing project estimates by comparing our past estimates to actual time spent. I suspect that my coworkers don't see the personal benefit, since they're not often involved in project scheduling.

    I am having trouble getting the Android Development Tools to install. I overcame one error involving the GEF. I now have a new error. Missing requirement: Android Development Tools 0.9.6.v201002051504-24846 (com.android.ide.eclipse.adt.feature.group 0.9.6.v201002051504-24846) requires 'org.eclipse.wst.xml.ui 0.0.0' but it could not be found I am running Kubuntu 9.10 and Eclipse 3.5. I have managed to get the Android DDMS to install. But I keep running into blocks with the Development Tools. I have the Android SDK installed. What do I need to do in order get the missing component?

  • Where's all the XPCOM user documentation?

    Google can't find much user documentation for XPCOM. Sure, it can find endless references to making new XPCOM components in C++, but that's utterly useless to anyone who needs to know how to use the existing components from JavaScript. This is a huge gap, occasionally touched on by trivial examples of creating an instance and calling a method. Has nobody with a more in-depth knowledge of the componentry written anything about its use? Using components with multiple interfaces? Implementing listeners for handling asynchronous behaviour? "Rapid Application Development with Mozilla" is no help (great breadth but little depth). Spotty references that exist to the defunct XULPlanet redirect to Mozilla Development Center, but that's pretty useless. Mozilla Development Center articles point back to XULPlanet, which is a joke. Is this the best an army of open source advocates can muster to promote the extension of The Beast?

    Hia I just installed 12.04 on my old ibook G3 (since i wiped the HDD) Now luckely i have a wifi-ethernet bridge on my pc to give the ibook intertnet but even when it is connected to eth0 (LAN) it keeps asking to connect to eth1(Wi-Fi) the router is using WPA2 Personal with AES I was just wondering, bescuse the router is upsatirs and the ibook is downstairs next to my PC. and the wifi connects upstairs, but I can't use it up there 'cos the batteiy is junk and i got no plugs that'll reach. Without having to accept any plugin permissions, from my browser (Firefox on Ubuntu) it took a screenshot of the page I was on, and allowed me to highlight important parts of the page / blackout personal data.     My app allows the user to choose between a dark and a light theme, but which should it use as the default? It is a field sales app, a kind of glorified invoicing app for enterprise users. It is much larger than most apps in Google Play, and targets a vertical market. Originally I developed the app with a dark font, which was fairly standard at the time. That is still my personal preference, but most modern apps seem to have a light font.

    My team currently has a development web/database server and a live deployment web server and a live database server. We use SVN with the repository stored on the development server but the problem is our deployment process. Currently when we need to deploy an update to the live application we simply use SFTP to transfer from the repository to the live web server and then amend the database on the live server to reflect the development database. This is a really slow process as we also minify all javascript and CSS files. I have used Capistrano for Ruby and Cruise Control for java but I have never used anything for PHP. I'd rather not have to build our own if something already existed. Does anyone know of anything?

The reason is that I have multiple computers, and I don't want all my "my_documents" folders to sync across work and personal life...
