• Rails: Open HTTP URL From HTTPS site

  I have a rails application running on SSL. I also have setup Piwik (for analytics) and it is running non-secure i.e. HTTP. When I try to make a call to Piwik API from my ruby code (the application running on SSL) it gives me the following error: SocketError (getaddrinfo: Name or service not known): /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/net/http.rb:560:in initialize' /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/net/http.rb:560:inopen' /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/net/http.rb:560:in connect' /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/timeout.rb:53:intimeout' /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/timeout.rb:93:in timeout' /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/net/http.rb:560:inconnect' /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/net/http.rb:553:in do_start' /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/net/http.rb:542:instart' /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/net/http.rb:379:in get_response' app/controllers/piwik_charts_controller.rb:195:inmake_graph' It works perfect when I make call from an application running on HTTP.   I am making my first SOAPclient and I am stuck with the Headers, I am getting a response and when I look at my request it has a soap:body but no soap:headers.   Hello, I have an object in Javascript that looks like this function MyObject(){ this.name=""; this.id=0; this..... } I then stringify an array of those objects and send it to an ASP.Net web service. Now what I want to do is do some processing on the JSON objects given to the webservice and return a JSON array of the same type of objects(same field names and such) How would I do this easily? I am using Netwonsoft.Json. Is there some way to turn a JSON string into a List or Array of an object?

  Like any design pattern the Specification Pattern is a great concept but susceptible to overuse by an eager architect/developer. I am about to commence development on a new application (.NET & C#) and really like the concept of the Specification Pattern and am keen to make full use of it. However before I go in all guns blazing I would be really interested in knowing if anyone could share the pain points that experienced when use the Specification Pattern in developing an application. Ideally I'm looking to see if others have had issues in Writing unit tests against the specification pattern Deciding which layer the specifications should live in (Repository, Service, Domain, etc) Using it everywhere when a simple if statement would have done the job etc?   I have a web service that returns a super simple list of objects MyObject[] data = webServiceCall(); MyObject has 1 field i want to display, "Name" (i.e. data[0].Name ) How can i turn this into an activity that lists just the name of these objects in a scrollable listActivity in android. I am getting really confused with Cursors and am not sure if I need Cursors and I"m not sure what kind of adapter to implement (baseAdapter, SimpleAdapter etc) So i guess i'm looking for three things, the activity , the adapter and the layout.xml Just trying to figure this android stuff out, definately a noob here

  Hi guys I'm developing a collaboration system and our team has been at it for the past couple of years. However the boss suggested that we try and redevelop it using something robust. Basically our collaboration system incorporates a webmail client and a custom built contacts management system plus project management system. My boss likes the robustness of GMAIL and Google docs and really would like a solution that if possible could incorporate these two and other google applications - I'm not so sure how to get started on developing a custom application using google applications - especially consider the fact that in the long run we wish to host our collaboration system as a paid service - just like the services that 37signals basecamp and highrise have been.

• Cannot connect to TFS after adding domain controller Windows Server 2008

  Hey Guys- Just added a domain controller to my server that is running tfs as well. And I believe Ive really "mucked" tfs now. Before it was configured to run at HTTP://CHICAGO:8080. It looks like I need to reconfigure TFS, I am just unsure how. I can still access Sharepoint Central Administration. However when I try to get at the ServiceStatus.asmx for TFS I get 'Service is unavailable' using http://chicago:8080/. This is confusing because of the DC though, the name should be changed to chicago.myrealtybrrand.com One of my coleagues who is our resident TFS guru claims that you cannot run TFS on the same machine with a domain controller installed. Any ideas for me?

Then Sys.Data is undefined So I added http://ajax.microsoft.com/ajax/act/40412/MicrosoftAjaxDataContext.debug.js. But then TypeError: Sys.Data.OpenDataContext is not a constructor What shall I do to be able to call the service the way they do it on the first link? What are the scripts and resources needed?   I want to use @PreAuthorize annotation on service methods with Spring Security. One of requirements is to use role-hierarchy. But by default it is not enabled. I found that in SecurityExpressionRoot class ("the base class for expression root objects") there is a property roleHierarchy. The class actually does use this property for methods like hasRole() and hasAnyRole(). I suppose that if I supply it with my own RoleHierarchy bean I will be able to use @PreAuthorize annotations with hierarchical roles. How can I inject my hierarchy bean into SecurityExpressionRoot?

• How to get the data for intra-day candlestick charts for stocks on eg Nasdaq

  Hi, For a learning exercise, i'm wanting to create candlestick (stock) graphs for stocks using zedgraph. Now on google finance, i can get daily open-high-low-close data which is perfect for making these graphs, but i'm wanting to create intra-day graphs, eg open-high-low-close data for an hour (or 5 mins, or 1 min even). Is there any way to get that kind of data without having to subscribe to any expensive service? I've heard opentick mentioned in an old SO question, but their site is defunct now. I was thinking of polling google finance once a minute to get the latest stock price, then with an hour's worth of 60 prices, i could then roughly calculate the open-high-low-close, but this is a bit of an estimation and i'm open to other suggestions.   I have a web service which runs with a HttpHandler class. In this class, I inspect the request stream for form / query string parameters. In some circumstances, it seemed as though these parameters weren't getting through. After a bit of digging around, I came across some behaviour I don't quite understand. See below: // The request contains 'a=1&b=2&c=3' // TEST ONLY: Read the entire request string contents; using (StreamReader sr = new StreamReader(context.Request.InputStream)) { contents = sr.ReadToEnd(); } // Here 'contents' is usually correct - containing 'a=1&b=2&c=3'. Sometimes it is empty. string a = context.Request["a"]; // Here, a = null, regardless of whether the 'contents' variable above is correct Can anyone explain to me why this might be happening? I'm using a .NET WebClient and UploadDataAsync to perform the request on the client if that makes any difference. If you need any more information, please let me know.

• What can't I build in Silverlight?

  First, I know that Silverlight needs to be embedded in a website, usually an asp page. I understand I need a delivery boy. My question is this; What types of apps/projects are so filled with technological hurdles as to make them ridiculous to do in Silverlight versus ASP.net? I know that with perseverance and flexibility I can probably make EVERY app in Silverlight, in some version or another, but which ones would be blatantly simple in, say ASP.net(or even WPF) but quite complicated in Silverlight? Basically what I am asking is if there is any reason I shouldn't consider Silverlight my first stop for every problem, obvious exceptions not with standing(a service or console). For me specifically, at this point, I am only building in house apps.

I am getting the sessionid as 1. Could someone tell me what's going wrong here? I want to use this token information to pass it to the CreateProcessAsUser function from a windows service. • IPC::Open3 Fails Running Under Apache

  I have a module that uses IPC::Open3 (or IPC::Open2, both exhibit this problem) to call an external binary (bogofilter in this case) and feed it some input via the child-input filehandle, then reads the result from the child-output handle. The code works fine when run in most environments. However, the main use of this module is in a web service that runs under Apache 2.2.6. And under that environment, I get the error: Cannot fdopen STDOUT: Invalid argument This only happens when the code runs under Apache. Previously, the code constructed a horribly complex command, which included a here-document for the input, and ran it with back-ticks. THAT worked, but was very slow and prone to breaking in unique and perplexing ways. I would hate to have to revert to the old version, but I cannot crack this.

  I have seen several Questions comparing different ECommerce CMS's: Prestashop compared to Zen-Cart and osCommerce Magento or Prestashop, which is better? Best php/ruby/python e-commerce solution I was hoping to get some people to weigh in with which they prefer for a relatively small E-shop. I am now primarily looking at PrestaShop and Shopify. I really like that Shopify does the hosting, has quality service, and is simple to understand and theme. However PrestaShop is free and seems to be able to do just as much if not more than Shopify. I have decided that Magento is too clunky for the project, and have read that many other solutions (osCommerce, ZenCart, OpenCart) are outdated, buggy, or just inferior. Thank you!

• How to handle an AsyncTask during Screen Rotation?

  I read a lot on how to save my instance state or how to deal with my activity getting destroyed during screen rotation. There seem to be a lot of possibilities but I haven't figured out which one works best for retrieving results of an AsyncTask. I have some AsyncTasks that are simply started again and call the isFinishing() method of the activity and if the activity is finishing they wont update anything. The problem is that I have one Task that does a request to a web service that can fail or succeed and restarting the task would result in a financial loss for the user. How would you solve this? What are the advantages or disadvantages of the possible solutions?

• Visual Studio 2008 - App_webreferences and dynamic urls

  When you add a web service reference in VS 2008 Web site project, you get a new folder in App_webreferences. This contains a disco,wsdl and discomap file. Additionally, you get a key/value pair in the web.config which contains the endpoint URL. Within the disco,wsdl and discomap files, the URL is strewn about leaving many places to change the url as we move from dev/test/stage/production. Why is it that when I change the URL in the web.config and perform an update on the web reference, the old URL remains in all three of those files? Why does it not get updated? Has anyone figured out how to manage this? Any insight is appreciated.

However, for certain cases client app is sending a request to a URL. We're using Annotated Controllers for URL mapping.
