  • Prototype mouseleave for two elements

    I have created a small navigation element that is positioned right on top of another element. It is only shown when a user mousenters/mouseovers the main element. I am having some trouble with the prototype. I would like this small nav element to be hidden when a user mouses out of the main box, but I would also like the small nav element to remain visible if a user mouses out of the main box but mouses into the small nav at the same time. This is my attempt so far with some pseudo-code to hopefully explain: $('main_box').observe('mouseenter', function(){ $('small_div').show() }) $('main_box').observe('mouseleave', function(){ if this element is $('small_div') then Event.stop() $('small_div').observe('mouseleave', function(){ if this element is $('main_box') Event.stop observe $('main_box') mouseleave else $('small_div').hide(); }) else $('small_div').hide(); }) The main thing I'm having trouble with is figuring out what element the mouse is over at a given point in time. Is there a way to do something like: on mouseleave do blah unless the mouse is over a specific element then do not do blah?

I wonder what's the most elegant solution for finding all the maximum combinations of Speed, Weight, Acceleration, etc, and also for the minimum, either by directly using the HTML on that page or copy and pasting the numbers into a text file. Actually, in that character table, Mario to Bower Jr are all medium characters, Baby Mario to Dry Bones are small characters, and the rest are all big characters, except the small, medium, or large Mii are just as what the name says. Small characters can only ride small bike or small kart, and so forth for medium and large.

  • How can you transform a set of numbers into mostly whole ones?

    Small amount of background: I am working on a converter that bridges between a map maker (Tiled) that outputs in XML, and an engine (Angel2D) that inputs lua tables. Most of this is straight forward However, Tiled outputs in pixel offsets (integers of absolute values), while Angel2D inputs OpenGL units (floats of relative values); a conversion factor between these two is needed (for example, 32px = 1gu). Since OpenGL units are abstract, and the camera can zoom in or out if the objects are too small or big, the actual conversion factor isn't important; I could use a random number, and the user would merely have to zoom in or out. But it would be best if the conversion factor was selected such that most numbers outputted were small and whole (or fractions of small whole numbers), because that makes it easier to work with (and the whole point of the OpenGL units is that they are easy to work with). How would I find such a conversion factor reliably? My first attempt was to use the smallest number given; this resulted in no fractions below 1, but often lead to lots of decimal places where the factors didn't line up. Then I tried the mode of the sequence, which lead to the largest number of 1's possible, but often lead to very long floats for background images. My current approach gets the GCD of the whole sequence, which, when it works, works great, but can easily be thrown off course by a single bad apple. Note that while I could easily just pass the numbers I am given along, or pick some fixed factor, or use one of the conversions I specified above, I am looking for a method to reliably scale this list of integers to small, whole numbers or simple fractions, because this would most likely be unsurprising to the end user; this is not a one off conversion. The end users tend to use 1.0 as their "base" for manipulations (because it's simple and obvious), so it would make more sense for the sizes of entities to cluster around this.

    In R, the plot() function takes a pch argument that controls the appearance of the points in the plot. I'm making scatterplots with tens of thousands of points and prefer a small, but not too small dot. Basically, I find pch='.' to be too small, but pch=19 to be too fat. Is there something in the middle or some way to scale the dots down somehow?

    Hi, I have tried to ask a variant of this question before. I got some helpful answers, but still nothing that felt quite right to me. It seems to me this shouldn't really be that hard a nut to crack, but I'm not able to find an elegant simple solution. (Here's my previous post, but please try to look at the problem stated here as procedural code first so as not to be influenced by the earlier explanation which seemed to lead to very complicated solutions: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2772858/design-pattern-for-cost-calculator-app ) Basically, the problem is to create a calculator for hours needed for projects that can contain a number of services. In this case "writing" and "analysis". The hours are calculated differently for the different services: writing is calculated by multiplying a "per product" hour rate with the number of products, and the more products are included in the project, the lower the hour rate is, but the total number of hours is accumulated progressively (i.e. for a medium-sized project you take both the small range pricing and then add the medium range pricing up to the number of actual products). Whereas for analysis it's much simpler, it is just a bulk rate for each size range. How would you be able to refactor this into an elegant and preferably simple object-oriented version (please note that I would never write it like this in a purely procedural manner, this is just to show the problem in another way succinctly). I have been thinking in terms of factory, strategy and decorator patterns, but can't get any to work well. (I read Head First Design Patterns a while back, and both the decorator and factory patterns described have some similarities to this problem, but I have trouble seeing them as good solutions as stated there. The decorator example seems very complicated for just adding condiments, but maybe it could work better here, I don't know. And the factory pattern example with the pizza factory...well it just seems to create such a ridiculous explosion of classes, at least in their example. I have found good use for factory patterns before, but I can't see how I could use it here without getting a really complicated set of classes) The main goal would be to only have to change in one place (loose coupling etc) if I were to add a new parameter (say another size, like XSMALL, and/or another service, like "Administration").     A rather strange question: I'm often asking myself with what programming languages things were created. I recently found this toy mini computer I played with when I was 13 or so at home. (Note: It is not one of those toy "notebooks", it's really small and came as an extra with a magazine) "Features": Hadware: LCD with a small field of pixels where the games were going on, besides that some stats such as score, highscore etc. Sounds and horrible music when started A really small "keyboard" with a wire Software: At least 14 or so games, from Snake over Tetris and Breakdown to some abomination of a car racing game A calculator Game selecting menu An alarm clock Inside there is a really small circuit board, I don't want to open the thing up now, though. Can you imagine if the games and "Operating System" of this thing where actually programmed using a language? If yes, what language could it be? If not with a programming language, how else was it created?

    I have implemented a camera application, which will show the preview in the entire screen of the device. But my requirement is to show the Camera preview in a small screen. My device resolution is 800x480(WxH) i.e, Nexus one. I can able to show the preview in the entire screen without scale down the preview. Its coming perfectly, but when i try show the preview in small screens(part of my total mobile screen), the preview is getting stretched and not looking good. Is there any way to show the preview correctly in a small screen. I think we need to scale down the image preview. But when i try to scale down the image preview, the android system itself doesn't allowing to set the scaled preview size. Could any one please help me how to scale the image preview in small screen.

    Everything not perfect. in software the software make and growth by user feedback like what user expected from the software and want in next version of software. In a chrome Event i hear about the Chromium. you can find some interesting things here Video 1 Video 2 come to the point. when i hear about some good website of india. many of them talking a little thing in common that. We are #1 because we not thing that we make a great application and deploy them and think that we finished own works preharps in a small days we make a small website deploy them and improve them always latter. what the point they all talking about:- the conclusion is that software make by user feedback. they tell that he not spent much time and wait for a long time when their project was finish and they launch their website. preharps they tell that they make a small website in a small time and launched them. make a research on them later and make them better later and website growth as they thing. if they are late then someone else can win even their project was much good them other. not more but a little story:-  before few month i hear about a great website who sold many of books daily i myself purchase some from them to track how they work and how they provided service. i not found any problem with their service. the service they provided is good but when i see their website i found that the mockup code was very badly designed. i am not know the matter how they growth because they used very other stuff who make their website slow. when i research something more i found that their is very hard to implement the website look like them. on their blog they writing about a mail they have. the clone of them make by many other but not goes good as well as they make. after few month later website is looking great. many thing they improved and make them better as  other thing. a another conclusion that same as another story that user feedback. well now come to the point. we talking about Chrome,firefox and IE. what thing is goes common that they all are browser. but something goes different that Chrome is a one of the best browser. from a month many of issue submitted to chrome that user found when they use them. so what is make this different the different is that when feedback goes to someone they take a action and think to make them better so improvement of chrome based on feedback user put using many things. secondly because it's goes open-source many of developer contribute them and make them real browser not real [tape] browser as like IE [a good example]. as you see in video they talking about silent update in chrome and futurecoming chromium. the thing they implement is too good. because by this thing user not worry about a new version. i myself never find a problem that you need to user new version as we found same problem in other application. Well think are great in chrome and now talking about Firefox. Firefox is a best option for development as well as chrome best for surfing the internet. in firefox many thing are great like plugin [ex: Firebug] , addons personas themes and many other thing and customization in firefox make them really a browser not like a joker [IE a good example]. well now come to IE. are IE really great no. someone from Microsoft can say that ha ha hi hi because they can't see the power of open-source. they thing that they make a software and they never need user feedback because they produced windows who really great for user because they used them. example :- before few month Microsoft shipped Windows live. when i use them that i found that their is no sense make for using this one software. suppose you need to write a post through Live writer. the old version are great i myself have no problem but in 2011 i found that they changed everything in user interface. so learn a new thing and spent sometime more to learn a new version whenever need are same and feature are same so why user spent a little time more to learn a lesson who they want to teach even their is no sense to learn them. the problem in 2011 Live not only of mine their are many other have same problem as mine and forget live 2011 after the see a badly design user interface. even they tell we maked in WPF yeah yeah WPF we make in .net. are you can say that what is the matter .net for user. the user have no problem to use WPF based application even you make them fool as we make them in WPF 2020 they are future technologies and we launch it 10 year before only for you yeah you dear customer of mine. yeah they thing WPF is best and thing to implement every software they make even they forget to make better user interface but they also remember to make them next version in WPF. the IE 9 Rc release on 10 febuary. but are they really cool. how much feedback they take and take action of them. their is no answer because they thing to launch a software they never thing what user want and off-course not care of user feedback. as we mention in Firefox and in chrome user feedback have a big matter because sound come from a public and user who use the software not only who make them software as IE 9 have. so feedback take a opportunities to make their software better and less hassel to use them in user hands not only in developer hands. so IE9 is not a good guys who still need of user if they really want a experience. well what Microsoft implemented in IE. i am not talking about that furthure more but i found in article last days[why not say reading a google blog]  yeah see them in http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2011/02/microsofts-bing-uses-google-search.html Well their is nothing good for developer in IE9. the blah blah blah they can always said on MSDN and many other site they have. many from public talking about them because they never can see a good software outside Microsoft. they never talking about Firebug even in books they never show you that. well i know competitor never show you a stuff of competitor i have same issue from Yahoo. on a days i hear from newsletter from them they write a subline on the bottom that USE IE or Firefox to exerience better Web. i am agree with Firefox and i am not know they really talking about IE or joking but i never believe they forget to put chrome. well i know their is corporate rule everyone should follow first. so no problem yahoo i know the matter. well IE:- so what is IE and Why We should use IE. well their is no sense to use IE. the thing we expect from IE but never found that:- first thing is that as a developer we thing the customization as well as other browser have like in chrome have it's own customization and firefox is also great in this matter. but IE really for Web development. are you joking:- the thing they mention in their blog is that IE9 have a new developer tool who have three new panel or tabs. are this joke whenever Firefox and chrome have everyday a new plugin or great upgrade of old plugin they tell we add three new panel first is network second is blah third is blah. well nice joke you make all MSDN blogger i like the way you talking about IE.  even we know what matter the browser have. i thing whenever they make IE 6 they talking about IE as same as they talking today. Secondly their is no other tool to use with IE deveoper tool like Firebug is avilable in IE but not make by IE. firebug team themselves make them for IE. because many of developer thing to use firebug but can't use because they still goes mad about IE because day and night they only hear about tools maked by Microsoft. so no plugin [even very small developer tool] no customized no personas on themse. no update yeah why forget these topic come with us and share a little thing more.   • XEROX Phaser 3160N installation on UBUNTU 12.04 LTE machine

    I have recently had windows XP die on one of my machines, and have installed Linux UBUNTU. The OS works great, except for installing the Xerox Phaser 3160N printer. The OS can find and install the network printer, but when I print a test page, it tells me “Internal Error – Please use the correct driver”. I have the correct drivers, as your support team have sent me the link, (http://www.support.xerox.com/support/phaser-3160/file-download/enau.html?operatingSystem=linux&fileLanguage=en_GB&contentId=105724&from=downloads&viewArchived=false) but I cannot install these drivers to run the printer. These are the instructions from the online guide for installing on a Linux machine: 1. Make sure that the machine is connected to your network and powered on. Also, your machine’s IP address should have been set. 2. Insert the supplied software CD into your CD-ROM drive. 3. Double-click CD-ROM icon that appears on your Linux desktop. 4. Double-click the Linux folder. 5. Double-click the install.sh icon. 6. The Xerox Installer window opens. Click Continue. 7. The Add printer wizard window opens. Click Next. 8. Select Network printer and click Search button. 9. The Printer’s IP address and model name appears on list field. 10. Select your machine and click Next. I get as far as step 5, and step 6 never happens, if it did, it would be very easy from there. There are options to add additional software to UBUNTU, however it does not recognise the installation CD as valid when I try to add it as a source.   • Shutdown Hangs for 5 Minutes on Kubuntu 14.04

    I've had persistent problems with a 5 minute hang at shutdown for the last three versions of Kubuntu (13.04, 13.10, and now 14.04). I suspect this is not a KDE-specific problem. Recently, I performed a fresh installation of Kubuntu 14.04 from a live-USB, and shutdown worked normally for about a week. The hang-up is now happening again, and I can't figure out why. A brief description of the problem: The hang-up occurs with all methods of initiating a normal shutdown: Clicking the shutdown or restart button in KDE, sudo shutdown -h now, sudo reboot The shutdown splash screen appears. Using the down-arrow to access verbose messages, I see "Asking all remaining processes to terminate." This message remains for 5 minutes with no disk activity. Finally, a rapid series of messages flurries to the screen: * All processes ended within 300 seconds... [ OK ] nm-dispatcher.action: Caught signal 15, shutting down... ModemManager[852]: <warn> Could not acquire the 'org.freedesktop.ModemManager1' service name ModemManager[852]: <info> ModemManager is shut down * Deactivating swap... [ OK ] * Unmounting local filesystems... [ OK ] * Will now restart` Possible Sources of the Problem: Before the problem re-appeared, I have mainly been doing routine computing. I have kept the system up-to-date using apt-get upgrade and apt-get dist-upgrade. The only other notable incident was a power failure. I do not have the computer connected to a UPS, so the power failure resulted in an immediate shutdown. Could this have corrupted an important file which must be accessed at shutdown? Is there any way that could cause a 5-minute hang-up?     I have a soundcard that I'd like to use and I've been trying to install it and being a new Ubuntu user, I get about half way through this in the Terminal and it stops cooperating with me...   • External hard drive not recognized

    Installed Ubuntu 10.10 on a hard drive by itself (no windows). All updates are up to date. Everything`works fine except when I plug in a 320 gig Toshiba external hard drive....it is not recognized. When I plug in an 8 gig flash drive it is recognized no problem. What do I mean by "not recognized"? I mean: how do you know it was not recognized. You can check the command "cat /proc/partitions" in a terminal with and without the hdd attached. If you see some difference, it's ok. If the difference is something like "sda1" (sd+letter+number) then you have partition on it, maybe it can't be handled in Ubuntu (no filesystem on it or so). If there is only "sda" in the difference for example (sd+letter, but no number after it) then the drive itself is detected, just no partition is created on it. Also you can check out the messages of the kernel, with the "dmesg" command in the terminal. If there is no disk/partition/anything in /proc/partitions, there can be an USB level problem, you can issue command "lsusb" as it was suggested before my answer. It's really matter of what do you mean about "not recognized". @Marco Ceppi @Oli @Pitto By "not recognized" I meant that when I plug in a 8 gig flash drive an icon immediately appears on the desktop imdicating that there is a flash drive plugged in and I can click on it and view the files on the flash drive. It also shows up on the "Nautilus" default file manager. When I plug in the 320 gig Toshiba external hard drive, I get no indication on the desktop or the file manager (thus "not recogized"). When I run the command cat/proc/partitions/ I get an error message Could not open location 'file:///home/bob/cat/proc/partitions' with or without the external hard drive installed. With the dmeg command I get about 10 pages of info with no mention of disk/partition/anything in /proc/partitions.
