• help in the Donalds B. Johnson's algorithm, i cannot understand the pseudo code

  Hi , does anyone know the Donald B. Johnson's algorithm which enumarates all the elementary circuits (cycles) in a Directed graph? link text I have the paper he had published in 1975 but I cannot understand the pseudo-code. My goal is to implement this algorithm in java. Some questions i have is for example what is the matrix Ak it refers to. In the pseudo code mentions that Ak:=adjacency structure of strong component K with least vertex in subgraph of G induced by {s,s+1,....n}; Does that mean i have to implement another algorithm that finds the Ak matrix? Another question is what the following means? begin logical f; Does also the line "logical procedure CIRCUIT (integer value v);" means that the circuit procedure returns a logical variable. In the pseudo code also has the line "CIRCUIT := f;" . Does this mean? It would be great if someone could translate this 1970's pseudocode to a more modern type of pseudo code so i can understand it in case you are interested to help but you cannot find the paper please email me at [email protected] and i will send you the paper. • matplotlib.pyplot/pylab not updating figure while isinteractive(), using ipython -pylab

  There are a lot of questions about matplotlib, pylab, pyplot, ipython, so I'm sorry if you're sick of seeing this asked. I'll try to be as specific as I can, because I've been looking through people's questions and looking at documentation for pyplot and pylab, and I still am not sure what I'm doing wrong. On with the code: Goal: plot a figure every .5 seconds, and update the figure as soon as the plot command is called. My attempt at coding this follows (running on ipython -pylab): import time ion() x=linspace(-1,1,51) plot(sin(x)) for i in range(10): plot([sin(i+j) for j in x]) #see ** print i time.sleep(1) print 'Done' It correctly plots each line, but not until it has exited the for loop. I have tried forcing a redraw by putting draw() where ** is, but that doesn't seem to work either. Ideally, I'd like to have it simply add each line, instead of doing a full redraw. If redrawing is required however, that's fine. Additional attempts at solving: just after ion(), tried adding hold(True) to no avail. for kicks tried show() for ** The closest answer I've found to what I'm trying to do was at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2310851/plotting-lines-without-blocking-execution, but show() isn't doing anything. I apologize if this is a straightforward request, and I'm looking past something so obvious. For what it's worth, this came up while I was trying to convert matlab code from class to some python for my own use. The original matlab (initializations removed) which I have been trying to convert follows: for i=1:time plot(u) hold on pause(.01) for j=2:n-1 v(j)=u(j)-2*u(j-1) end v(1)= pi u=v end Any help, even if it's just "look up this_method" would be excellent, so I can at least narrow my efforts to figuring out how to use that method. If there's any more information that would be useful, let me know.

  I am tryint to tokenize entries from a file. However I am not able to use the line.split("") option because of unequal number of spaces between files. I have no trouble accessing the first and second columns, but not the last column. When I do a info=line.spilt(""), since the third column might or might no entries, I am not able to determine the token number. How do i access the 4th column? Is there a way i can use info[i].contains(" -")?

  The problem I am having is that when say for instance the user enters 7, then the display shows: 0 11 2 3 5 8 13 21 child ends. I cannot seem to figure out how to fix the 11 and why is it displaying that many numbers in the sequence! Can anyone help? The number of the sequence will be provided in the command line. For example, if 5 is provided, the first five numbers in the Fibonacci sequence will be output by the child process. Because the parent and child processes have their own copies of the data, it will be necessary for the child to output the sequence. Have the parent invoke the wait() call to wait for the child process to complete before exiting the program. • Environment variable names with parentheses, like %ProgramFiles(x86)%, in PowerShell?

  How does one get the value of environment variable whose name contains parentheses in a PowerShell script? To complicate matters, some variables names contains parentheses while others have similar names without parenteses. For example (using cmd.exe): C:\>set | find "ProgramFiles" CommonProgramFiles=C:\Program Files\Common Files CommonProgramFiles(x86)=C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files ProgramFiles=C:\Program Files ProgramFiles(x86)=C:\Program Files (x86) We see that %ProgramFiles% is not the same as %ProgramFiles(x86)%. My PowerShell code is failing in a weird way because it's ignoring the part of the environment variable name after the parentheses. Since this happens to match the name of a different, but existing, environment variable I don't fail, I just get the right value of the wrong variable. • iPhone JSON object releasing itself?

  I'm using the JSON Framework addon for iPhone's Objective-C to catch a JSON object that's an array of Dictionary-style objects via HTTP. Here's my connectionDidFinishLoading function: - (void)connectionDidFinishLoading:(NSURLConnection *)connection { [connection release]; NSString *responseString = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:responseData encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; [loadingIndicator stopAnimating]; NSArray *responseArray = [responseString JSONValue]; // Grab the JSON array of dictionaries NSLog(@"Response Array: %@", responseArray); if ([responseArray respondsToSelector:@selector(count)]) { NSLog(@"Returned %@ items", [responseArray count]); } [responseArray release]; [responseString release]; } The issue is that the code is throwing a EXC_BAD_ACCESS error on the second NSLog line. The EXC_BAD_ACCESS error I think indicates that the variable got released from memory, but the first NSLog command works just fine (and shows that the data is all there); it seems that only when calling the count message is causing the error, but the respondsToSelector call at least thinks that the responseArray should be able to respond to that message. When running with the debugger, it crashes on that second line, but the stack shows that the responseArray object is still defined, and has 12 objects in it (so the debugger at least is able to get an accurate count of the contents of that variable). Is this a problem with the JSON framework's creation of that NSArray, or is there something wrong with my code?

• elisp compile, add a regexp to error detection

  I am starting with emacs, and don't know much elisp. Nearly nothing, really. I want to use ack as a replacement of grep. These are the instructions I followed to use ack from within emacs: http://www.rooijan.za.net/?q=ack_el Now I don't like the output format that is used in this el file, I would like the output to be that of ack --group. So I changed: (read-string "Ack arguments: " "-i" nil "-i" nil) to: (read-string "Ack arguments: " "-i --group" nil "-i --group" nil) So far so good. But this made me lose the ability to click-press_enter on the rows of the output buffer. In the original behaviour, compile-mode was used to be able to jump to the selected line. I figured I should add a regexp to the ack-mode. The ack-mode is defined like this: (define-compilation-mode ack-mode "Ack" "Specialization of compilation-mode for use with ack." nil) and I want to add the regexp [0-9]+: to be detected as an error too, since it is what every row of the output bugger includes (line number). I've tried to modify the define-compilation-modeabove to add the regexp, but I failed miserably. How can I make the output buffer of ack let me click on its rows? --- EDIT, I tried also: --- (defvar ack-regexp-alist '(("[0-9]+:" 2 3)) "Alist that specifies how to match rows in ack output.") (setq compilation-error-regexp-alist (append compilation-error-regexp-alist ack-regexp-alist)) I stole that somewhere and tried to adapt to my needs. No luck.

• Android EditText won't take up remaining space

  In my Android app, I have a tabbed Activity. In one of the tabs I have two TextViews and two EditTexts. The first EditText is only one line, and that's fine. However, I want the other EditText, android:id="@+id/paste_code", to take up the remaining space, but no matter what I do to it, it will only show one line. I don't want to manually set the number of lines, since the number that would fit on the screen differs based on your device. Here's the relevant code.   I'm getting this error when trying to add 2 to an integer. I am using the Codeigniter framework. • DB2 with mod_perl not working, works fine in CGI

  Hi, I'm having issues with getting DBI's IBM DB2 driver to work with mod_perl. I get this error in apache's error log: DBD::DB2::dr connect warning: [unixODBC][Driver Manager]Data source name not found, and no default driver specified at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/Apache/DBI.pm line 190. DBI connect('SAMPLE','username',...) failed: [unixODBC][Driver Manager]Data source name not found, and no default driver specified at /data/www/perl/test.pl line 15 First of all, why is it using ODBC? The native DB2 driver is installed (hence it works as CGI). Running Apache 2.2.3, mod_perl 2.0.4 under RHEL5. This guy had the same problem as me: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg22909.html But I have no idea how he fixed it. What does mod_php4 have to do with mod_perl? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm having no luck with google.

  I've created a small Prism application (using MEF) with the following parts: - Infrastructure project, that contains a global file of region names. - Main project, that has 2 buttons to load other modules. - ModulesInterfaces project, where I've defined an IDataAccess interface for my DataAccess module. - DataAccess project, where there are several files but one main DataAccess class that implements both IDataAccess and IModule. When the user click a button, I want to show him a list of employees, so I need the DataAccess module. • Returning ifstream in a function

  Here's probably a very noobish question for you: How (if at all possible) can I return an ifstream from a function? Basically, I need to obtain the filename of a database from the user, and if the database with that filename does not exist, then I need to create that file for the user. I know how to do that, but only by asking the user to restart the program after creating the file.   i am new to webservices, I have created a basic stockmarket webservice, I have successfully created the server script for it and placed it in my server, Now I also creted a clent script and accessed it hruogh the same server.. Is it valid ? can boh files be accesed from the same server? or do I have to place them in different servers? If yes Then Y? If No then why do i get the blank page? I am using nusoap library for webservice. Mono obviously doesn't like the way I add referenced assemblies to the code I'm compiling for system.xml and system.xml.dll. The other two assemblies add fine, which is no surprise because they're the code that the compiler is actually executing from and exist in the executable directory. Any clue what I need to do to fix this? Maybe I could just drop those DLLs in the executable directory, but that feels like a dumb idea.

I tried saving htmlText of textarea but the problem is when i replace it in textarea tags causes problem. There will always be another extra line. • Cocoa memory management

  At various points during my application's workflow, I need so show a view. That view is quite memory intensive, so I want it to be deallocated when it gets discarded by the user. So, I wrote the following code: - (MyView *)myView { if (myView != nil) return myView; myView = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectZero]; // allocate memory if necessary. // further init here return myView; } - (void)discardView { [myView discard]; // the discard methods puts the view offscreen. [myView release]; // free memory! } - (void)showView { view = [self myView]; // more code that puts the view onscreen. } Unfortunately, this methods only works the first time. Subsequent requests to put the view onscreen result in "message sent to deallocated instance" errors. Apparently, a deallocated instance isn't the same thing as nil. I thought about putting an additional line after [myView release] that reads myView = nil. However, that could result in errors (any calls to myView after that line would probably yield errors). So, how can I solve this problem?
