  hello, I got a situation over here. We have a .Net application running on intranet ServerA(database/application server). Now we have also implemented the application on a other machine ServerB (application server only,windows Server 2003, IIS 6.0) database is pointed towards serverA. Everything works fine but the problem is we have some web forms where we are allowing some users to attach some files like documents , pdf etc. But the Public users are facing problem with the attachments. Now I need to find solution for this. Any help will be appreciated Thanking you all in advance.

  Hi I've been looking at this for a couple of hours now and haven't found a solution. Is there a way to upload a file using OAuth-Ruby? When I send a normal request, everything works but adding a file as a parameter makes the signature invalid. Example: @access_token.post("http://.../imageresource", {:name=>"awesome cat"}) works great but gives me: <error> <message>images/POST: Request has neither file data nor a fileUrl from which to download data</message> </error> Any thoughts on this? • Using key().id() on GAE Datastore and reverse geocoding

  I have 6000 data of district, subdistrict. I need to represent this on dependent dropdown. The datamodel is for example; class Location(db.Model): location_name = db.StringProperty() location_parent = db.IntegerProperty() location_parent is reference to key() or id()? Still cannot decide which one is good. When i use key() as reference then using JSON to create jquery dependent drop down. My page loading/query and rendering time the dropdown is quite slow? Can i use key().id() as drop down option value to lighten up the page load? Any better solution for this parent/child reference for the drop down? For example: for the district record/entities the location-parent is null, for sub district record location_name will contain reference to parent district record. Other issue is to reverse geocoding the location to store or display geoPoint (lat,long)? Is google MAP API always find the exact lat,long of specific region boundaries or any error checking for the result?

• Strategy Design Pattern -- *dynamic* !!!

  My application will have different strategies for my objects. What's the best way of implementing that? I would really love the case when we can make strategy classes implementation dynamically loaded from, say, some relational database. Not sure how do that better, though. What's the best approach? Idea is that say we want to apply to object MyObj strategy Strategy123 then we just load from database by ID 123 the object, deserialize it, get the Strategy class, and use it with MyObj. The maintenance while sounds easier from the first look can be a pain in the long run if Strategy interfaces changes, etc. What can I do also? I want to find solution when I should be keeping Strategy classes in codebase -- just for the sake that I don't need code change and re-deployment of the application if my Strategy changes, or I add new strategy. Please advise!

  Hi, i need a locking in memcache. Since all operations are atomic that should be an easy task. My idea is to use a basic spin-lock mechanism. So every object that needs locking in memcache gets a lock object, which will be polled for access. // pseudo code // try to get a lock int lock; do { lock = Memcache.increment("lock", 1); } while(lock != 1) // ok we got the lock // do something here // and finally unlock Memcache.put("lock", 0); How does such a solution perform? • Adjacency List Tree Using Recursive WITH (Postgres 8.4) instead of Nested Set

  I'm looking for a Django tree library and doing my best to avoid Nested Sets (they're a nightmare to maintain). The cons of the adjacency list model have always been an inability to fetch descendants without resorting to multiple queries. The WITH clause in Postgres seems like a solid solution to this problem. Has anyone seen any performance reports regarding WITH vs. Nested Set? I assume the Nested set will still be faster but as long as they're in the same complexity class, I could swallow a 2x performance discrepancy. Django-Treebeard interests me. Does anyone know if they've implemented the WITH clause when running under Postgres? Has anyone here made the switch away from Nested Sets in light of the WITH clause?

  Well, I have implemented a distinct query in hibernate. It returns me result. But, while casting the fields are getting interchanged. So, it generates casting error. What should be the solution? As an example, I do have database, "ProjectAssignment" that has three fields, aid, pid & userName. I want all distinct userName data from this table. I have applied query : select distinct userName, aid, pid from ProjectAssignment Whereas the ProjectAssignment.java file has the fields in sequence aid, pid & userName. Now, here the userName is first field in output. So, Casting is not getting possible. Also, query : select aid, pid, distinct userName from ProjectAssignment is not working. What is the proper query for the same ? Or what else the solution ? • VS2010 .filter files and SVN

  Since we've switched to VS2010 we've noticed a new .filters file that apparently contains the filter structure of the project. We're also using subversion as our source control. Unfortunately, every time we check in now we end up with merge conflicts if anyone's added a file or filter to the project. SVN seems absolutely incapable of merging this file type correctly even though it's text based. It's getting rather frustrating. Is anyone else dealing with this problem? Has anyone found a solution?

  I'm adding a user defined function to Excel with varargs-based signature in C++: XLFUNCTIONIMP(MyFunction)(...); When Excel calls MyFunction, it passes it 30 arguments regardless of how many the user entered in the sheet. The extraneous ones are blank strings. MyFunction, however, is designed to accept empty string arguments. As a result, I cannot tell valid empty strings apart from the extraneous ones sent by Excel. A solution could be to obtain the contents of the actual cell where the user entered the function. However, I can't find a way of doing that from within the implementation of my function. Could someone please suggest a way out?

  So I have an app on the market, and with an update I want to add some columns to the database. No problems so far. But I want to detect if the database in use is missing these columns, and add them if this is the case. I need this to be done dynamically and not just after the update to the new version, because the application is supposed to still be able to import older databases. Normally I would be able to use the PRAGMA query, but Im not sure how to do this with Android. I cant use execSQL since it is a query, and I cant figure out how to use PRAGMA with the query()-function. Ofcourse I could just catch exceptions and then add the column, or always add the columns to each table before I start to work with it, but that is not a neat solution. Cheers,

• How can you determine when the user scrolls to the bottom of a DataGridView?

  I am writing a C# Windows Forms Application in Visual Studio 2008. I have a DataGridView with a lot of data in it. I would like to initially only populate 10,000 rows and add more only when the user scrolls to the bottom. I am handling the DataGridView's Scroll event, but it never seems to raise with the ScrollEventArgs.Type property set to Last, which is the condition I think I need to catch to add more rows. I have read about people having bad experiences with the DataGridView.Scroll event (e.g. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/785200/datagridview-scroll-event-and-scrolleventtype-endscroll), but the solution provided (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/472389/how-can-i-receive-the-scroll-box-type-scroll-events-from-a-datagridview/767603#767603) only adds the ScrollEventArgs.Type property to come back as EndScroll, not Last like I need. Does anybody know how to get the event to raise properly, or another way to accomplish this task?

  Being a web developer (php, symfony, doctrine) for 2 years now, I was recently asked by a friend to come up with a desktop solution. So I developed a project, installed a LAMP on his machine and he is mostly happy using it now. But I'm not. It just doesn't seem right to wait for a server response from a localhost. Obviously php isn't suited for desktop development. So, my question is: what language \ framework would you advice a php programmer if he was going to develop a desktop application (something that you can install, that has it's own gui, but utilizes the similar concepts of web apps: css, javascript, orm). I would like to bring up Python as a possible answer to my question. Does anyone have an experience of developing a desktop app with Python, utilizing an ORM and(or) HTML-based GUI?

  Hello, I have a solution with multiple projects - executable, library, and others(unimportant right now). Library contains EF entity classes and executable uses them. When I'm working on some code from the executable then every entity that I use is marked as an error and compiler says that I should check usings and references. Reference in the executable project is set to library project(not the dll itself). When I build the library project then everything gets back to normal, but when I start typing then it happens again. I could live with it, but intelli sense isn't working and that is quite a disadvantage. Any ideas?

Rails REST magic is fantastic, but I'm slightly bothered the formatting of a URL such as: http://myproject/projects/5 where Project is my resource and 5 is the project_id. I think if a user is looking to retrieve all of their projects, then a respective HTTP GET http://myproject/projects makes sense. However if they're looking to retrieve information on a singular resource, such as a project, then it makes sense to have http://myproject/project/5 vs http://myproject/projects/5. Is it best to avoid this headache, or do some of you share a similar concern and even better - have a working solution?

• UISegmentedControl register taps on selected segment

  Hi, I have a segmented control where the user can select how to order a list. Works fine. However, I would like that when an already selected segment is tapped, the order gets inverted. I have all the code in place, but I don't know how to register the taps on those segments. It seems the only control event you can use is UIControlEventValueChanged, but that isn't working (since the selected segment isn't actually changing). Is there a solution for this? • Initialize content of a jQuery remote tab on initial page load

  I'm using the jQuery tabs library to create a set of remote (i.e., ajax loaded) tabs. However, to avoid the initial page load being empty until the ajax request finishes, I'd like to include the content for the initial tab with the initial page download. I've got this generally working by providing a div in the initial page load that matches the title of the tab, but even though this content appears immediately, as soon as I initialize the tabs it does the ajax request IN ADDITION which is both wasteful and causes a flicker. My basic question is how can I get jQuery tabs to NOT do an ajax request for the initially selected tab, and get this content as part of the initial page load, while still loading the other tabs dynamically. The complication is that I can't hard code the ids/hrefs for which tab is the "initial" one since the initial tab will change based on available content. I'm sure there is some kind of hacky way to do this with javascript rewriting the URLs of tabs dynamically before I initialize the tabs but I'm looking for a cleaner solution. Any ideas?

• A JTAG emulator for use with a Hawkboard and OpenOCD?

  I'd like to try bare metal ARM programming with the Hawkboard, but the deployment process looks awful. I'm totally new to this, so I could be misunderstanding the instructions, but it appears that I have to use a program called AISgen to convert the binary file, then boot with u-Boot over UART and copy the AIS binary into memory. Not only is that a lot of stuff to do every time I make a change, it also doesn't give me the ability to debug with GDB. The best solution for this that I can find is JTAG. But the prices for these JTAG emulators look ridiculous. I'm not even sure which ones will work with the Hawkboard and which ones won't. So far, my best bet appears to be the Flyswatter, but the pin layout is different. Basically, I need something that's relatively cheap and works with the Hawkboard and OpenOCD. Any suggestions? Or is there another way I could do this, perhaps?
