• How do I get my Apache virtual hosts working?

  I'm trying to set up virtual hosts for local development and can't seem to get it working. I have this in my httpd.conf: NameVirtualHost * <VirtualHost *> ServerName localhost DocumentRoot C:/Users/Elliot/dev/UniServer/www </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *> ServerName drupal.dev DocumentRoot C:/Users/Elliot/dev/UniServer/www/drupal.dev/httpdocs </VirtualHost> and this in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts: 127.0.0.1 localhost 127.0.0.1 drupal.dev http://localhost resolves OK, http://drupal.dev/ does not. Any ideas welcomed...

  Hi. I am researching how to install Ruby 1.9.1 in Xubuntu 10.04 and I came across the command build-essential multiple times. Sometimes it is followed by packages and sometimes it is both preceded and post-ceded by packages. The 2 examples I am looking at are: sudo apt-get install build-essential zlib1g zlib1g-dev zlibc libruby1.9 libxml2 libxml2-dev libxslt-dev and sudo apt-get install ruby irb ri rdoc ruby1.8-dev libzlib-ruby libyaml-ruby libreadline-ruby libncurses-ruby libcurses-ruby libruby libruby-extras libfcgi-ruby1.8 build-essential libopenssl-ruby libdbm-ruby libdbi-ruby libdbd-sqlite3-ruby sqlite3 libsqlite3-dev libsqlite3-ruby libxml-ruby libxml2-dev Thanks :adam

• Random password variable disappears

  Hi, I'm using the following to generate a random password in a shell script: DBPASS=</dev/urandom tr -dc A-Za-z0-9| (head -c $1 > /dev/null 2>&1 || head -c 8) When i run this in a file on its own like this: #!/bin/sh DBPASS=</dev/urandom tr -dc A-Za-z0-9| (head -c $1 > /dev/null 2>&1 || head -c 8) echo $DBPASS A password is echoed. When i incorporate it into a larger script though the variable never seems to get created for some reason, so for example this doesn't work: DBPASS=</dev/urandom tr -dc A-Za-z0-9| (head -c $1 > /dev/null 2>&1 || head -c 8) sed -i s/oldpass/$DBPASS/ mysql_connect.php If i manually set the variable though everything is fine.. can anyone see why?

• XenServer Converting HVM to Paravirtualised

  Recently I have been tasked with the daunting process of converting a setup of HVM enabled VMs (running on Citrix XenServer 5.6.0) into PV (paravirtualised) containers. The constraints of the project was that: The operating system must be functionally identical after the migration. minimal modification to the operating system (with exception of kernel / drive mapping) I also was allowed to change the bootloader(ie, grub) in what ever way I see fit. However, I have attempted this, I will firstly like to show you my steps I took. This at the moment is CentOS5.5 specific: Steps: yum install kernel-xen This installed: 2.6.18-194.32.1.el5xen edited: /boot/grub/menu.lst changed my specs to match: title CentOS (2.6.18-194.32.1.el5xen) root (hd0,0) kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.18-194.32.1.el5xen ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 console=xvc0 initrd /initrd-2.6.18-194.32.1.el5xen.img Then I changed my xenserver parameters to match: xe vm-param-set uuid=[vm uuid] PV-bootloader-args="--kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.18-194.32.1.el5xen --ramdisk /initrd-2.6.18-194.32.1.el5xen.img" xe vm-param-set uuid=[vm uuid] HVM-boot-policy="" xe vm-param-set uuid=[vm uuid] PV-bootloader=pygrub xe vbd-param-set uuid==[Virtual Block Device/VBD uuid] bootable=true Some things to note, I am running a VolGroup LVM ;) Anyways, after all these steps (which aren't much!) Setting up new root fs setuproot: moving /dev failed: No such file or directory no fstab.sys, mounting internal defaults setuproot: error mounting /proc: No such file or directory setuproot: error mounting /sys: No such file or directory Switching to new root and running init. unmounting old /dev unmounting old /proc unmounting old /sys switchroot: mount failed: No such file or directory Now my hints are that it cannot detect / because of the fact that when you change from HVM mode to PV it does something (not that obvious) When you make a SR (storage) on a HVM, you get it mounted to the guest os as /dev/hda. However in PV mode, this presents itself as /dev/xvda... Could this be the answer? and if so, how the heck to I implement it?? Update: So I have gotten a bit further in my quest, as it now detects the LVM's... To do this, I required to recompile the xen-kernel initrd image. The chunk size (128k) of the RAID was chosen after measuring which chunksize gave the least CPU penalty. If this speed is normal: What is the limiting factor? Can I measure that? If this speed is not normal: How can I find the limiting factor? Can I change that?

  I'm trying to link my project with fftw and so far, I've gotten it to compile, but not link. As the site said, I generated all the .lib files (even though I'm only using double precision), and copied them to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\lib, the .h file to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\include and the .dll to C:\windows\system32. • Parsing boolean from configuration section in web.config

  I have a custom configuration section in my web.config. One of my classes is grabbing from this: <myConfigSection LabelVisible="" TitleVisible="true"/> I have things working for parsing if I have true or false, however if the attribute is blank I am getting errors. When the config section tries to map the class to the configuration section I get an error of "not a valid value for bool" on the 'LabelVisible' part. How can I parse "" as false in my myConfigSection class? I have tried this: [ConfigurationProperty("labelsVisible", DefaultValue = true, IsRequired = false)] public bool? LabelsVisible { get { return (bool?)this["labelsVisible"]; } But when I try and use what is returned like so: graph.Label.Visible = myConfigSection.LabelsVisible; I get an error of: 'Cannot implicitly convert type 'bool?' to 'bool'. Any thoughts?

  I am fairly new to c++ and I am a bit stumped by this problem. I am trying to assign a variable from a call to a method in another class but it always segfaults. My code compiles with no warnings and I have checked that all variables are correct in gdb but the function call itself seems to cause a segfault. • Installation doesn't detect existing partitions

  I am trying to install Ubuntu 11.10 in a dual boot with my existing Windows 7 but the installer does not detect any existing partitions. I have tried resetting my BCD using EasyBCD and doing fixmbr from the Windows startup disc. • "GEOM_MIRROR: cancelling unmapped because of ada0"

  Recently upgraded my FreeBSD install to FreeBSD 9.1-stable from the 9-stable branch. I have two SATA hard drives (/dev/ada0, /dev/ada1) in a geom mirror, with nothing between : [/dev/ada0, /dev/ada1] --> /dev/mirror/gm0, which I then partition for root etc. After upgrading from 9.0-stable to 9.1-stable, I found these messages on the console: GEOM_MIRROR: cancelling unmapped because of ada0 GEOM_MIRROR: cancelling unmapped because of ada1 GEOM_MIRROR: Device mirror/gm0 launched (2/2). Everything still seems to work, the mirror seems healthy and the machine works just fine, peformance is fine.

• Computer crashes on resume from standby almost every time

  I am running Ubuntu 12.04 on a Core i5 2500K and ASRock Z68 Pro3-M motherboard (no graphics card, hd is a WD Green 1TB, and cd drive is some cheap lite-on drive). Since installing 12.04, my computer has been freezing after resume, but not every time. When I start to resume, it starts going normally with a blinking cursor on the screen and then sometimes it will continue on to the gnome 3 unlock screen. Most of the time, however, it will blink for a little bit and then the monitor will flip modes and shut off due to no signal. Pressing keys on the keyboard gets no response (num lock light doesn't respond, Ctrl-Alt-F1 fails to drop it into a terminal, Ctrl-Alt-Backspace doesn't work) and so I assume the computer is crashed. The worst part is, the logs look entirely normal. • Testdisk won’t list files for an ext4 partition inside a LVM inside a LUKS partition

  I have accidentally deleted a file that I want to recover. The partition is an ext4 partition inside an LVM partition that is encrypted with dm-crypt/LUKS. The encrypted LUKS partition is: /dev/sda2 which contains a physical volume, with a single volume group, mapped to: /dev/mapper/system And the logical volume, the ext4 partition is mapped to: /dev/mapper/system-home A # testdisk /dev/mapper/system-home will notice it as an ext4 partition but tells me that the partition seems damaged when I try to list the files. If I # testdisk /dev/mapper/system it will detect all the partitions, but the same happens if I try to list their files. Am I doing something wrong or is it a known bug? I have searched but haven’t found any clue.
